My guest this week is author, podcaster, and former NBA G-league star Kevin Owens. Kevin is a former Division I basketball player and the author of the book “Overseas Famous: The Travels and Tribulations of a Basketball Globetrotter,” where he chronicles his life playing professional basketball in different countries and then coming home only to have to rebuild his life over again. While Kevin isn't the typical runner that we have on the show - though we do talk about his reasons for not running as much - everyone will get something out of this interview because of the life transition Kevin had to make when his playing days are over. In this interview, Kevin talks about his training regime during his playing days and now, why he doesn't (or can't) run as much, his life overseas, and coming home to start his life over again. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/werunthis/support

Nick Timmons brought life into the lives of others. His father, Kevin Timmons stated that, “Nick was Peter Pan.”Friends, this is a longer episode than normal, running closer to 50 minutes than 30 minutes. In the event suicide is a trigger for you, please have someone with you during this episode. We discuss the trauma of suicide, mental illness, depression, and anxiety. The grief journey is ongoing and does not take a straight path. In fact, if you don’t know where you are on your own path, listen to Anne Timmons explain to you that “there is no getting around grief - if you don't walk through it, you are stuck."Many people in the Kansas City region know of the restaurants, “Nick and Jake’s”. They serve a great beverage and meal, providing fun for families, singles and those who need many televisions on at one time for that special sporting event. My guests on Episode 30, “Saving our Children from Suicide” are Kevin and Anne Timmons. Kevin co-founded Nick and Jake’s with Doug Watkins and they named it after their boys…Nick and Jake. A self-proclaimed “class clown”, Kevin finds a few opportunities to draw a smile and laugh from both me an Anne even as we are discussing the sorrow of his son’s suicide. While Kevin wanted to “bury himself in his closet and only think about Nick”, Pastor Karen Lampe asked him to open his home to friends grieving their loss of Nick, “a friend who brought light into the lives of others”. Kevin listened and thus began his healing journey.Humor, paying it forward, sharing in a grieving parents’ group, raising funds for mental health awareness, and implementing specialized counselors for their family’s school district are each healing modalities for Kevin and Anne Timmons. Opening Fore the Kids in 2005 and then pivoting significantly in 2017, after Nick took his life, Kevin shares past and present information highlighting the importance of giving back to your community. They are honest and raw about seeing signs of Nick’s depression and not taking steps that might have helped. Anne is clear with us, even her psychology and teaching degrees do not provide her all the knowledge needed to walk her path alone. Using many tools, seeking assistance from professionals, and holding tightly to her faith, Anne tells us her faith has helped her through several significant life disruptions as she has watched “God weave good into a tragedy”.On several occasions, I have stated that there are many ways to find healing…some good and some not. Kevin explains his desire to make changes in his own healing rather than self-medicating with alcohol. He also encourages and supports friendships, stating that we should all “check in with our friends”, if we are the one hurting and when we are part of a supportive team.Listening to this podcast will not be easy. It should not be. Suicide is horrific. For those left behind questioning themselves, a path to self-forgiveness seems necessary. Seek professional assistance if you are working to heal from a similar, tragic situation. Seek professional assistance from resources listed below if you are considering taking your own life or know someone who is.You are valuable. You are wanted on this planet. Stay alive because, “To Live would be an awfully big adventure!” - Robin Williams from the movie “Hook”, when he played Peter Pan - and Kevin Timmons, a grieving and healing father.Friends, together we are better.Seek help. Kevin Pavlidis Is @Snakeaholic and he knows a little about snakes. In fact, he is a contracted snake hunter in the Everglades. While Kevin is trying to find snakes, the rest of us are trying to avoid them.  Who better to ask “How do we avoid snakes in the wild”? We discuss the best way to deal with snakes when you encounter them while hunting, fishing, hiking or even in your backyard.  Many times, hunters and anglers happen across snakes and do not know the best way to handle the situation. Kevin discusses how all snakes in America are defensive to humans and see us as a predator, not prey. With this in mind, most of the time the best thing to do is to leave the snake alone. Kevin also discusses what you can do if the snake is in a place (like a duck blind) where leaving it alone is not an option. Be sure to tune into this episode to hear all of his great advice. Trigger warning: this episode includes conversations about suicide. To mark World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10th), I am honoured to share the story of Kevin Hines – one of the only people in the world to survive jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. This is one of the few interviews that brought me to tears. Kevin’s story hits home because I – like so many others - have battled with my own mental health struggles and thoughts of self-harm. Nearly 2,000 people have committed suicide by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge since it opened in 1937. It is a suicide attempt that is 99% fatal. The 4-second fall can be compared to the force of slamming into a concrete wall at 120km/hr. If jumpers don’t die from impact trauma, they succumb to hypothermia or drowning. Thankfully, Kevin’s experience has a different ending. At 19 years old, after years of battling several undiagnosed mental illnesses, Kevin made his way to the bridge, with thoughts of jumping but hopes of a stranger asking if he was okay. Because nobody spotted the signs of his distress, Kevin threw himself over the rail. In a remarkable turn of events, Kevin’s attempt to take his life was unsuccessful after a SEA LION circled him and kept him afloat until the Coast Guard arrived. While Kevin’s story has a happy ending, but this isn’t the case for the 800,000 people who die due to suicide each year. If you are thinking about suicide, please speak to a trusted friend or family member, a qualified professional, or call a suicide crisis helpline. Visit www.suicide.org to find a helpline in your country.

"Having been married for only 3 weeks, we were just home from our honeymoon, unpacking, building our new life, and excited for our first home. We were on track. We were headed toward our goals. We were right on schedule. I was a nurse and Kevin had just started his third year of medical school. In an instant, it all changed. An explosion in our home initiated the scariest challenge ever given: the fight for our lives. While Kevin was also injured, his recovery is often overshadowed by mine. Even so, he endured much pain as well, having: • 35% of his body burned mostly to the 2nd degree.• Some 3rd degree.• 2 days in the burn ICU.• 3 weeks hospitalized.• 4 surgeries. For me: • 96% of my body was burned to the 2nd and 3rd degree. (Chance of survival, slim). • 2 weeks of a medically-induced coma. • 3 months in a burn ICU. • 2 months in a rehab hospital. • 27 surgeries. So, many other things... One day, we will talk about it all. Words cannot articulate all of my feelings, but God...He stepped in that day, exactly one year ago, and He’s been there every painful day since then." -Kevin and Medley Bokun, a newlywed couple, shares their story in this episode and lessons learned from the first year of marriage.    You can reach Kevin and Medley: IG: @medleyregan FB Group Page: Kevin and Medley's Road to Recovery   Stay in conversation with us on IG: @dearyoungmarriedcouple or on our website: www.dearyoungmarriedcouple.com   P.S. Ian is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He started with YEAA in the summer of 2017 and managed to chalk up sales of $59,000 and a profit of $12,000.  His second-year at YEAA was starkly different from his first. In his second-year, Ian assumed the role of a rookie executive and had 3 managers under him. Here, Ian shares that his biggest takeaway was that he learned to motivate other people and “make things happen”. Moreover, he got the opportunity to coach and work alongside the top performer in company history. In this segment of the show, Ian also how he managed to scale up his business to half-a-million-dollars in revenues. Like Ian, Evan, our second intern also worked with YEAA for three straight summers. If you are feeling burnt out due to your workload, you will find this segment of the show particularly interesting.

In 2017, before we merged to form Array Digital, Kevin made an amazing hire who has proven to be an asset to our team. In episode 223 of Journey to $100 Million, listen in as Kevin shares how vital our marketing manager, Jake Maines, has been to our team. Jake's role is to oversee our entire marketing department, including social media, SEO, advertising, and website design. Prior to hiring Jake, our goal was to hire someone who would be able to assist SEO and marketing clients. We are very fortunate to have Jake on our team as he has been essential to the growth of our company. His experience along with his dedication to the company has allowed him to transition from working within a single department to being the head of the entire marketing department. While Kevin was interviewing this new hire, he did not just focus on Jake's experience and background, but also his personality and character to see if he would fit in with the culture of the company. Jake exceeded Kevin's expectations and has been an amazing addition for the team ever since. The moral of the story is, if you want to grow a great company, you have to hire great people! — Erik J. If you are having suicidal thoughts, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. I’ve often wished that I could see the private sufferings of the people around me, to behold their secret worries, fears, and pains on a scale of colors. That may sound dismal to some, but it doesn’t to me. I feel that if I could clearly see their pains, then I’d know exactly what ingredients to include in their particular medicinal balm. A caution light—flashing bright red—I’ve imagined what it would be like if people came equipped with such a signal. It would let others know they had reached the edge of what they believe can be tolerated, and that they are considering taking their own life. In reality, seeing the burdens people carry inside takes a more delicate awareness than my color warning fantasy could muster. Knowing what to do when the red light is flashing takes a set of skills that are sorely needed in Calcasieu Parish. In an attempt to understand these skills, I asked the Assistant Professor of Psychology at McNeese State University, Dr. Kevin Yaudes and Director of Student Health & Development at McNeese State University, Ramie Thibodeaux, to share their experiences and knowledge on suicide prevention with me on Find the Good News. Kevin began our talk with a sobering fact—the suicide rate in Calcasieu Parish is 42% higher than the national average, making death by suicide more common in our region compared to other areas of Louisiana. While Kevin and Ramie could not definitively say why there is such a disproportionate amount of suicides in our area, they did share ways that each of us can help. Kevin believes we need to have more open and healthy conversations about suicide, not just among mental health professionals, but in the actual tribes that make up our communities. Suicide is dyed in manifold pain and grief, a subject with deep stains compared to other mental health-related topics. Kevin and Ramie both working passionately to remove the stigmata from the issue of suicide, bringing it out of the shadows and into the light where it can be discussed in healthy and healing ways. The upcoming Out of Darkness walk on September 21, 2019, in Lake Charles, Louisiana is just one of many national events taking place in September that have been created to bring suicide into the public dialogue. The Out of Darkness Walk is designed to bring families, friends, and survivors together in solidarity, understanding, and love while raising funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. As a family member of a suicide survivor, I understand all too well how deep the stigma of suicide stains the fibers of your life. I have experienced the verbal dancing that takes place to avoid talking about suicide openly. As a man that was lead to suicidal thoughts through mind-altering medications, I have seen just how seductive depression can be, and how dark and lonely the hole is. I have been one of the lucky ones twice in my life, and I know that silence is not a solution. I’ve received second and third chances. These have tilled my heart, allowing compassion to bloom for those contemplating suicide. Unlike my colorful imaginings, we can’t see the various tints of pain and despair that lead to suicidal thoughts. As Kevin proposes, we can change the way we talk about suicide, and who we talk about it with. More than that, we can each take steps to cultivate awareness, greater listening skills, loving-kindness, and—most important of all—conscious presence for those exhibiting suicidal signs. ========== FOR MORE INFO ABOUT DR. Welcome to the Weekend Wonderlings, Angela Bowen here, the host of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. S6E7: Wayne and Bonnie Airdate: November 11, 1992 In this episode With Winnie still upset at him, Kevin looks for ways to get her back. Meanwhile, Wayne begins seeing Bonnie, a divorced mother, whom he plans to move in with against his parents' wishes. I have some additional thoughts on this episode that you can feel free to ponder. Cindi does not look 13? Do you agree or disagree? How do you think Jack handled Wayne moving in with Bonnie vs when Karen moved in with Michael? I know, it was a different time and fathers treated their daughters differently from their sons when it came to who could get away with what. Honestly, I felt Norma was more upset about it then Jack. However we see Jack sitting on the bed looking defeated at the end of the episode while Norma comforts him. Because what else can you really do or say, Wayne’s 18. Although so was Karen, and Jack was about to drag her back home. What if you reversed it and instead of Wayne and Bonnie, it was Kevin and Winnie moving in together?Would Jack and Norma’s reaction be the same or different because they know Winnie? Let’s hear your thoughts, email the podcast at lbomwonderyearspodcast@gmail.com Is anyone ever ready for the SATs? I've never taken them, but I hear they are super stressful and nerve racking. Kevin's losing sleep over it and Jack's thinking of quitting NORCOM after receiving a lukewarm evaluation and getting in to the furniture making business in S6E9: The Test, which aired on December 2, 1992. In this episode While Kevin struggles to study for his upcoming SAT tests, Jack ponders quitting NORCOM to go into the furniture-making business. Have a great weekend everyone!

The search for one’s true purpose in life is one of the most daunting questions we humans face – but it doesn’t have to be. Jennifer chats with Kevin Monroe, a self-described servant leader who brings his lifelong study of purpose into his work as a leadership coach and consultant, advising both individuals and companies in their search for purpose greater than themselves. How would you describe Kevin Monroe in one word? According to him, that word is “pilgrim.” Kevin tells Jennifer a little bit about how his outlook has changed throughout his life and how getting fired from his position in the church was exactly what he needed to start the next stage of his journey. After 10 years in telecommunications sales and marketing, and after finding out some hard truths about his long-coveted dream job, Kevin left to join a high-tech startup with some friends. Their timing wasn’t so great; as the dot-com bubble burst in 2001, the company dissolved and Kevin was brought back to that nagging question of purpose staring him in the face. Corporate America is a beast in its own right. Uninterested in returning to the predictable machinations of another corporate position, Kevin took a hard look at what success meant for him and where true fulfillment lay on his path, ultimately moving on to the non-profit sector. The tale of a short-lived career in the non-profit sector is, unfortunately, a dime a dozen. Kevin’s experience was no exception. After losing his job, the next step was a no-brainer: time to start a business. Jennifer asks Kevin about founding X Factor Consulting, LLC and the early days of being out on his own. Unearthing your purpose isn’t just about reaching a destination at the end of a path but navigating a winding road, its direction only visible a few steps ahead. After Kevin landed some clients and got things working smoothly, the question of purpose returned. Jennifer asks Kevin about how he used to think about his purpose and how it has changed over time. In Kevin’s view, purpose is not singular but is multidimensional and multifaceted; he talks about the importance of his family when it comes to purpose and the primacy of relationships. The times have changed. The corporations of yesteryear are catching up to the socially minded ethos of the non-profit sector. Kevin talks about how today’s conversations around balancing profit-making and social good are in line with the thread of servant leadership that he seems to have been following all along. Jennifer asks Kevin about what servant leadership is to him. For many doers and thinkers, the hyper-focus upon the individual leader is counterintuitive. Kevin talks about other-centered leadership, relaying a story about visiting the corporate headquarters of Chick-fil-a and the servant leadership approach of Southwest Airlines. How does one become a servant leader? Jennifer asks Kevin if people are born as servant leaders and if one can learn to shift their way of thinking. According to Kevin, “Little things matter most. And we never know what little thing is going to matter most to whom when.” Sometimes a warm greeting and a handshake can do amazing things. Both Kevin and Jennifer are walking proof that you can change the way you think about leadership step by step, throughout your life. Listen to them tell some stories about leadership experiences in their careers. Kevin also provides insight into the power of servant leadership and why it’s so much simpler and intuitive than it often sounds. Between his podcast – called the Higher Purpose podcast – and his consulting and facilitation work, Kevin’s focus on purpose is driven by the importance of self-driven discovery. There is no universal training program for servant leadership because everyone’s story is different. What Kevin tries to do is create the ideal conditions for companies and organizations to connect with their own story on a deeper level in order to discover, be inspired by and effectively lead with their newfound purpose. While Kevin mostly works with larger companies, he talks about some tools and resources for helping individuals. You can find some of these resources in the links below! So what’s next for Kevin Monroe? Kevin gives us some details about a new interview segment on the Higher Purpose podcast called Profiles of Purpose and drops a few juicy takeaways in the form of some excellent quotes, credited and original: “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” – Jim Elliott “Purpose thrives in community, but starves in isolation.” – Kevin Monroe Links and Resources: Kevin Monroe Website LinkedIn Twitter Facebook Higher Purpose podcast Purpose Manifesto Profiles of Purpose Mike Kim Website Books (affiliate links): Firms of Endearment: How World-Class Companies Profit from Passion and Purpose Conscious Capitalism: Liberating the Heroic Spirit Are you struggling with developing your personal brand? This week on Escrow Out Loud, our San Francisco Real Estate podcast, we interview our dear friends, long time clients and accomplished individuals in their own right, Kevin (from Sawyers Design) and Pete.[00:53] The very first purchase we worked on together with Kevin and Pete was many years ago, back in 2003. Kevin is an interior designer and has a great eye for looking at homes from a design perspective. What does he look for in a home? And what does having "good bones" mean in terms of houses?[03:41] Upon first seeing their potential home Kevin was flooded with ideas of what he would love to do with it. Of course, these ideas evolve and grow when you live in a space. The first step was to remodel the kitchen and the bathroom.[05:10] While Kevin is looking at homes with his designer eye, what is Pete doing?[7:14] Kevin and Pete lived through both a condo conversion as well as an interior remodel. But the remodel was a somewhat more traumatic experience. One of the things they have learned is to ask a lot of questions! Britton and Pete trade contractor stories, and she shares why she chose the higher bid over all the others when she was doing her remodel and how a detailed bid meant coming in within 1-2% of the budget.[10:28] Living in the property while it’s being remodeled is not a pleasant experience - just ask Britton, Kevin and Pete. If you can manage it, stay somewhere else. At least until you have running water in the house again. Another good piece of advice is to not put all your hopes and dreams into a property until you know you have it. The market can be competitive and sometimes disappointments happen. And sometimes missing out can be a blessing in disguise. TICs can get complicated quick. What are some things to be aware of when looking for TIC partners?[17:23] Vague statements come true: Matt and Britton do have experiences and relationships which can be an advantage in the home buying process. Kevin and Pete do some reminiscing on opportunities lost and the good batting average they’ve had working with Matt and Britton.Thank you for joining us for this week’s episode. We hope you enjoyed tuning in and join us again next week for part 2 of our interview with Kevin and Pete! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Two violent criminals invade a house in which an 8-year-old child has been abandoned while his family goes on vacation to Paris. The 1990 classic film, "Home Alone," shows us that child endangerment is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Macaulay Culkin plays Kevin McCallister, a psychopathic sadist whose hobbies include severely burning people, inflicting massive head trauma, and puncturing his victims' flesh with sharp objects. While Kevin's actions may have technically been justified by self-defense, this kid will surely grow up to be a prolific serial killer. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern play Harry and Marv, two blundering criminals whose ambitions quickly escalate from theft to home invasion after getting scammed by a kindergartener. Spoiler alert: The hilarious conclusion to this family film is Harry attempting to bite off Kevin's fingers one-by-one right before having his head bashed in by a shovel. Merry Christmas, Everyone! While Kevin was out on the West Coast scouting out some places for Topshelf Records to relocate, I was able to meet up and get to know him a bit more. Kevin runs Topshelf Records alongside one of his close friends, Seth. We discussed not concentrating on negativity, finding your role and competition amongst record labels. I found it to be extremely engaging and I hope you do as well.  Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers

This week the guy's talk about how nobody cares when Larry almost had to live in a homeless shelter.  Anderson talks about his car tire that went flat (While Kevin lost the concept of what it means to drive on a spare tire.) and Brian is sick with a deadly fever.  Also, very little gaming news, your emails, and a little Q&A. Thanks for listening!
