Today we will be talking about how grief can cause so much change in our life for the good if we embrace it and how it can really simplify our life. We go into how our lives have changed because of grief by looking back in hindsight. Simplification has increased greatly because of grief and helped us practice minimalism, which has given us more space and time to focus on the things that matter in our lives. We discuss the release that grief can give you as opposed to bottling up everything, when you grieve, you can release some deep emotions within yourself, and thus will be able to move on. 2 ways that you may deal with grief 2:30How grief has simplified life 9:51Rosie's phase of how to impact multiple people 16:46“I couldn't function on that level and have had more children. So I think that's been another driving force for me is, OK well I want more children. I have to simplify. And that's why I'm saying that grief can be a blessing in one way and it definitely is a catalyst for change. Today, Den raps about two things video business owners/freelancers can never hear too much about, namely, productivity and marketing. How good is this episode? Well, if Den packaged this audio and sold it for $1,000 dollars, it would still be a bargain! That's how good this episode is. But don't take my word for it (I'm just a copywriter), hear for yourself.  But first...Here's a sneak peek at what you'll hear:'The laughably simple (but powerful) "Can vs Should" productivity lesson. - 1:00The one labor-intensive activity most video business owners stubbornly refuse to outsource. But those who do, NEVER go back to doing this activity. Hear the full scoop at 1:30Quite possibly the best "productivity" maxim ever invented. Hear this beauty at 2:20Need more clients? Fair enough. But whatever you do, don't go off chasing new clients without doing this first....  - 2:30How to tap into the potential goldmine of business that's sitting right under your nose. (Best part: getting new business this way won't cost you one red cent! - 2:50)Den's frighteningly effective email marketing strategy for landing new clients and igniting a riot of new cash. Bonus: Den gives you his exact email copy (script) right down to what to say in the subject line to ensure it gets opened. - Den could charge a pretty penny for this type of information, but for some reason, Den seems to spill the beans whenever he gets in front of a mic. If you're smart, you'll take full advantage of Den's almost over-the-top generosity. The crash course starts at 3:00)A 2-second mindset "tweak" that can take you from being a lousy marketer to an outstanding one. All great marketers possess this mindset. Hear this at 5:20How to do follow-up like a pro. - 6:30A sneaky (and very effective) way to drum up referral work almost out of thin air! (Just follow the advice given at 7:30 and watch what happens.)What NEVER to say to a past client when doing a follow-up. Sadly, this exactly what most business owners blurt out when speaking to a past client. (Saying this will have them wondering two things: (1) why did I agree to this conversation? and (2) How can I quickly end this conversation? - 9:25)An "all but forgotten" marketing strategy that works even better than what it did in its heyday. (If you're looking for new business for your video business, you'd be crazy not to do this...  - 10:45)The “A4” marketing secret most business owners are clueless about. - 12:35How to use coffee beans to land new business. - 13:25How to use an ordinary calendar to bring in new business. - 14:00A hardly ever talked about way to shake the ol' money tree. If you're not currently doing what Den mentions at 14:20, then you're leaving so much money on the table it's not even funny.A ridiculously effective marketing formula that's also caveman simple to implement, yet for some strange reason, people shy away from doing this. Go figure. - 17:30Why using all the best marketing strategies in the world won't amount to a hill of beans if you don't have this one thing... - 18:00Connect with Den on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/denlennie/Get more great resources over at https://www.denlennie.com/ Support the show (https://www.denlennie.com/free-training)

INTRODUCTION In today’s episode of Parallel Quest the guys start off by having a discussion of bedside manner. Is it better for a doctor or nurse to be completely silent during an exam or are a few words of assurance that “everything looks good” a little better? One thing leads to another and Zach ends up telling a story about a time that he had swollen lymph nodes or, according to his doctor, “possibly cancer.”2020 has definitely been the year of strange things and the changing of traditions. Weddings have been one thing that have been quite different in 2020. With canceled and postponed weddings becoming rather popular, somehow, Cody still found himself officiating two of them under expedited circumstances. There is a possibility that his calling in life is to be a professional wedding officiant? Maybe. But more importantly, the guys discuss how people should really approach weddings in the midst of a global pandemic. THE RANDOM DISCUSSION TOPIC OF THE WEEK: Zach and Cody agree on a lot of things but not always everything. A recent topic that they found themselves in disagreement over was “which storytelling medium has the largest market size.” Zach thinks that the literary fiction market is larger than that of films. Cody believes the opposite, thinking the the market for films is quite a bit larger than that of literary fiction. Listen in as the guys discuss and let us know what you think about it as well. Write into the show here (https://www.steellakestudio.com/community) to let the guys know what you think about the topic.MAIN TOPIC: HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS (2000 film) 01:00:30How the Grinch Stole Christmas was a highly anticipated film for the guys in the year 2000, but it was not a movie that came to life in the easiest of ways. After a crazy agreement to attain the rights to Dr. Seuss’s work, the Grinch was released with a big name star (Jim Carrey) leading the performance and a successful director (Ron Howard) commanding the team that brought Dr. Seuss’s imagination to the live-action screen. The film received rather lukewarm reception by critics upon its release but has gone on to be a classic played around many television sets in the years to follow.Even though the film wasn’t the best, it captured the imagination of Dr. Seuss’s world in a rather impressive way. The team that brought the film to life was full of talent from people who were formerly writers for Seinfeld to the greatest makeup artist in modern film, Rick Baker. This episode of Parallel Quest digs in to the talent that is, Rick Baker. Cody shares exactly how and why this is a household name in the Haggard house, even though most casual film viewers probably have no idea who he is. There are many stories from the guys attached to this film that will allow you to laugh along and hopefully share your own as well.Thank you so much for checking out Parallel Quest. Jenny Wheeler: But now, here's Pamela. Hello there Pamela, and welcome to the show. It's great to have you with us. Pamela Redmond: Thanks, Jenny. Great to be here. Pamela Redmond - Novelist Jenny Wheeler: Beginning at the beginning, we always start with this point, people love to know the answer to it. Was there a Once Upon a TIme moment when you decided, I want to write fiction? I'm aware that you'd written quite a lot of nonfiction, but when did the fiction light bulb switch on and was there a catalyst for it? Pamela Redmond: I remember wanting to write fiction as early as high school, but it was daunting to figure out how to do that and earn a living. Even though I took fiction writing classes in college and when I first moved to New York, which was in the seventies, I worked as a waitress and wrote short stories at night. I tried that for a couple of years, which seems like an embarrassingly long time now to take figuring out that that was not going to be a way to earn a living. Then I got married and had kids and had a career as a magazine journalist and started writing nonfiction books and through all that the desire to write fiction grew, but I was bedeviled how to make it a reality. It wasn't until my youngest child started school and I had a little bit of time and a little bit of freedom in terms of my mind, that I took a fiction writing class and started trying in earnest to write a novel. Finding time as a Mom to write It's funny because – she was a girl then, now she's a woman – my babysitter at that time is now the age I was when I started. Her children are 4 and 6 I think, the same age that my children were, and she's trying to write and it's challenging. Jenny Wheeler: It is quite a common unfolding for women who have children and families. I didn't have children of my own, I had stepchildren, but you get very consumed with family life in those middle years, the twenties and thirties, don't you? Pamela Redmond - Younger - the novel Pamela Redmond: Yes, you have to. You don't really have the choice, like I'll work on my career now and deal with children when I'm in my forties or fifties or whatever. If that's something you want, you have to get it together and do it, and then it's sitting in the middle of your life, which is great, you've chosen that, you want it, it's wonderful. But if you have to earn a living and you have children, something has got to go, and sitting and noodling over a novel is that thing for most people. Jenny Wheeler: Sure. You had a very successful career as a magazine journalist and that can also be a trap. Your own success can be a trap. But now you are a New York Times bestselling author of more than 20 fictio...

Peter spoke on prayer. Feel bad about prayer, because don't feel I am that good at it, and that when I do they're really short.Pray and distracted quickly. Not that I haven't tried.Prayer meetings, nightmare. Feel quite inadequate. What did Jesus say?Don't stand and do big fancy prayers, but pray some simple things. When I communicate it can be short and to the point. When I send an email, they don't span to lots of pages. My texts answer the question, sometimes with one word. When I wrote a book, it was very thin. Why would prayer be different? It's communication between us and God.Jesus on the cross. "My God my God, why have you forsaken me?"Answer to the prayer, 3 days in hell, and then victory. Probably not what he was hoping for, but all part of the father's plan. The thief, remember me.... answer, today you will be with me in paradise.Talk about how that can be our experience. We get the idea God loves the long flowery communication. Maybe He does. However, the short may be sufficient. Pamela sends long communications. Sometimes she just sends me a text with 1 letter, x, and I smile. Chloe is even more succinct that me, and sends the letter k. I know she agrees. The more words you speak, the less they mean. So what good are they?Ecclesiastes 6:11 NLTDo you think God hears us less when we say a short prayer.I'd argue when a child cries out "Help, mummy" that they are heard more clearly than when they are rambling on about something. What does the bible say about quick prayers? It is littered with examples, from Paul in prison, Jesus on the cross, Nehemiah rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, to many of the Psalms. What is my experience? The reason I started to be meditating on this topic.3 close calls in a couple of weeks. All involved a quick prayer of help….Psalms 124:1‭-‬8Job 33:29‭-‬30How many close calls don't we even know about? 2 Corinthians 1:8‭-‬11LittleNot mean don't sometimes need to wrestle with something in prayer.Make the arrow prayer part of your normal life.Communicate your concernsPsalms 46:1‭-‬2‭, ‬10Arrow prayer ideasComfort all those that are hurting today, O Lord.Forgive my wrongdoing I prayHear My Prayer O Lord.I surrender all to You my Lord and my God.Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in Your word, I pray.Restore the joy of my salvation and forgive me all my sin.Source: https://prayer.knowing-jesus.com/Arrow-PrayersQuestionsWhen was the last time God miraculously rescued you?How do you find praying? 2:30How do you get to understand your athlete? How much is too much? how much is not enough? Both In terms of weekly volume, level of fatigue, optimal performance for the athlete.2:40Acute / Chronic balanceWhat they’re doing today against what they have been doing over a period of time.3:43Start by defining Acute / Chronic4:43I use a 42-day past and 7 days present…5:30Knowing what the year looks like and the phase focus allows us to see where the stresses are coming.6:30Measurement Tools:• Heart rate• Wattage• Calories burnt (poor indicator but is used)• Work effort / how much load you’re putting through the system in the day• Acceleration• Deceleration• Change of direction• Blood valuesThat data set is ultimately how hard I’ve worked in that day.Essentially you’re a detective. I even use body language and tonality / how the athlete communicates with you…11:13That is the game, everything stems from this question. The most important thing we do is balance acute / chronic12:32Unlike the science of gravity when you drop something out of our hand and 100% of the time it will hit the floor, when it comes to a training response, the bodies adaptation to sport and demand… in all the studies that we read across the different parameters from injuries to performance we don’t see 100 out of 100, we don’t see 100%.14:51Sleep is another parameter … and an important one.17:05The question is how do you get the balance right?Communication with the athlete is crucial. Performance can be sub optimal because of fatigue.Missed timed or purely communicated and the athlete will panic when they are not hitting their numbers.20:34How do we manage, how do you know when is too much?27:00The goal is to be practicing your sport as much as possible. When monitoring your athlete, you’ll quite often give them more work? What makes you go that way?I use acute / chronic for performance not injury prevention. The simplicity of this is it’s just listening to the athlete and getting as much information from them as you can get. I expect messages from my athlete 5/6 times a day giving me feedback, if we’re not in camp.30:38We’re not dealing with machines, computers. We, as humans, are variable. The science of training vs the humanThe athletes don’t need to understand, they just need to provide the data (e.g. heart rate, squat numbers etc) It’s your job as a coach to interpret the data.

Janzen shares what it's like to collaborate with creative minds and the stories behind the works that will make up Crow's Shadow's 25th Anniversary Retrospective, opening at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art in Salem this weekend.Marie Watt Explores Comfort and Community through Blankets - 38:41Marie Watt makes a power play with a new exhibition at PDX Contemporary. She’s created big installations before, stacking blankets high to invoke tribal tradition and a place on the continuum of history, but her new work involves 20-foo-long rafts of fabric, overstitched with giant wolves and a forest of phrases invoking comfort and connection. She tells us about the sewing circles that made it happen, and the challenges of realizing ideas at such a large scale.Deer Tick Goes Acoustic - 35:06When you’re a raucous, high-energy live band known for living loud, sometimes the scariest thing you can do is slow your roll.
