In this episode, Lee picks up from the prior episode on seeing the trends in your business environment to seeing where you want to be. He summarizes the origins and value of a good mission/vision statement; and also the perils of how poorly and painfully it can be to create them. He provides an alternative approach to creating Rapid Organizational Unit Statements (affectionately referred to as ROUS in a nod to The Princess Bride). The ROUS technique is an engaging and collaborative method that helps teams quickly create clear, concise, and compelling missions. Lee outlines the criteria and a step-by-step process for engaging a group of leaders to create or update your overarching mission and vision. The episode concludes with a preview of the next topic: OKRs (Objectives and Key Results). Additional Resources Connect with Lee on LinkedIn Learn more about Unleashing Leaders  Follow PeopleForward Network on LinkedIn Learn more about PeopleForward Network Listen to the original episode on Unlocked podcast Key Takeaways: Crafting mission and vision statements is essential for strategic planning. Avoid the traditional painful and time consuming "You're killing me, Smalls" approach. The ROUS technique allows for rapid creation of effective statements. Mission statements answer "Who are we and why are we here?" They should not focus on the services and activities (the what and how). Vision statements answer "Where do we want to be/Where are we going?" Good Mission/Visions focus on the destination and strive to be clear, concise, and compelling. Engaging the team and perhaps key suppliers or customers in the process fosters ownership and alignment.

Send us a textIn this sermon, Rev. Paul Lawler explores Isaiah 58:6-10 in conjunction with our Vision Statment, which shares, "serving the poor, the oppressed and marginalized." In our passage, God calls His people to perform religious rituals and live out a love that transforms the world. As the Israelites return from exile, they are shocked by God's rebuke: their fasting and prayers are meaningless because they neglect the poor, oppressed, and marginalized. Rev. Paul shares how God's heart is not in mere outward actions but in the way we treat others, especially those in desperate need. From injustice to apathy, Isaiah challenges us to live a life that reflects God's love and justice. Through practical examples, we're reminded that serving others is true worship's core. God promises that when we serve with sincerity, we will see His light, healing, and glory in our lives. HOME | PLAN YOUR VISIT | BLOG | DIGITAL BULLETIN

Happy 2025! It's time to take action and become your greatest self! That begs the question, how? You need a life plan! In today's episode, I'm breaking down how to create your much needed life plan with the work you've already done—diving into what you want, need, and how you want to feel! We are bringing our four-week journey to a close with this step-by-step plan. Let's dive in! KEY TAKEAWAYS: When creating your life plan, you must answer one important question: What legacy do you want to leave? This question and answer allows you to have more awareness of what's important to you. If you put action into your life, your life will change. WHY MUST YOU CREATE A LIFE PLAN: -Highlights what is utmost important to you -Keeps you accountable -Gives you the confidence to take action to overcome your fears -Understandable way to get to obtainable goals because you have broken your goals down into actionable steps -Helps you prioritize Create a life plan instead of New Year Resolutions! This is a far more sustainable way to move forward. STEP-BY-STEP TO CREATING A LIFE PLAN: Start with creating your vision statement Imagine your dream life. What does it look like? What does it feel like? Be specific in the details. What do you look like in this vision—meaning, what kind of energy are you putting out? Picture yourself already there and write out your vision. If you need help, use these questions: Do you see? What do you hear? Who are you with? How do you spend your days? How much money do you make? How are you making that money? What have you accomplished? Where do you live? What emotions and feelings are you feeling? What is your daily routine look like? Once you've written out your vision, think about what you need to achieve in order to make that vision come about. , What do you need to achieve in order to make that vision a reality? Do you need to go back to school? Increase your income? Change your health? List what you must do. Turn this into a more visual form, whether that's on a social media board or even just on a vision board. Perform a personal assessment A personal assessment is where we're looking at your achievement so far up until this point in your life. It's like taking stock of your success and failures. And by the way, many people hate doing this because they become really concerned that they haven't done enough. Stop the judgment. Just look at the lessons that you've learned, the experiences that you're not willing to repeat. When you're doing your personal assessment plan, look at all of the areas of your life: relationships and personal growth, finances, emotional well-being, your community, your career, your physical health, the five master areas of your life. Rate your happiness factor from 1 to 5. Adjust your focus What is step one? Create SMART Goals S - Specific M - Measurable A - Attainable R - Relevant T - Time bound Set Deadlines and Reviews How am I going to stay motivated? You're going to have a deflation of your motivation and some unforeseen challenge. The answer is to allow yourself to take breaks and come back to your plan. It's your accountability partner. Most importantly, stay in action. Love this episode and want to keep the inspiration and conversation going? Both statements written in the front of my journal. Review regularly.    - **Encouragement**: Remain prayerful and seek God's guidance as you live out your vision. Regularly review and adjust your vision as needed to stay aligned with His will. ### 5. **Conclusion and Challenge**    - Summarize the episode by reinforcing the purpose of a Vision Statement as a practical guide for living out your purpose.    - **Challenge**: Create your own Vision Statement with specific actions that reflect your unique calling and gifts.    - Share your Vision Statement!   **(5:00 – 1:00)**   Doctrine of the Month - Doctrine of Man     • Romans 5:12 – 12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned— 13 (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. 15 But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. 16 And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification. 17 For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore, as through one man's offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man's righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous.    **(1:00)**     - “Thank you for listening today! Even if you don't take the time to write out your purpose and vision statements, it's worth spending some time thinking and praying about how God made you and what HE designed you for. We were all created for fellowship with Him and have a place in His mission to take the Good News to the world. I wrote in a recent blog post that historically I have been obsessed with numbers as a church leader. Many of us are. We talk about church growth, and we are almost always talking about literally increasing the number of people associated with our community. And I understand that. I can't totally disown it. If we believe that what we're doing matters, that it makes an impact, and that our community can transform people's lives, why would we not want to increase the number of people who experience that? But this is not the growth we are talking about in baptism. In baptism, we are talking not about numerical growth, but about our maturity, our development, our spiritual growth alongside and towards one another as we see more clearly how to love like God loves. It is totally fine to love baptism because it means new members of our church. But I hope we can see past that as well and recognize that these babies, these nascent humans, these brand-new Christians, are pushing us to grow, to develop, to mature. God put them in our lives on purpose. How will we respond to that? How will we let them shape us? What will we learn from them about Jesus? How will we grow together? We talk about growth in our Vision Statement. There's a whole bullet point dedicated to it, and we will be focusing on that bullet point throughout this program year. In it we say that we envision a church that is "Growing with people of every age, race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic situation, and political persuasion." We wrote that four years ago, and I will freely admit that when we wrote it, I was thinking about numbers. I was thinking about increasing the number of people that are connected to Church of the Redeemer. But the language we used pushes us beyond that. When we say we want to grow not only in number but in the type and age and experience and perspective of our membership, we are saying we want our understanding of who we are to grow. We are talking about the growth, development, and maturity of how and where we see love.Want to support our podcast? Give Here https://redeemercincy.tpsdb.com/Give/podcast

Dripping Vision with Luke Simmons

What is a Vision Statement and why does it matter? Is there a point in having a "Vision Sunday" at the beginning of the year, or is the congregation better served by "dripping vision" throughout the 52 Sundays of the calendar year? Is having a church vision even Biblical? Mike asks these questions and more to the more-than-capable Luke Simmons in a fun and informative conversation about the difference between church vision and church mission, and so many other topics having to do with leading healthy churches.  Luke Simmons is the founding and Lead Pastor of Ironwood Church, a growing church in the Phoenix metro area. He's been in full-time pastoral ministry since 2004 and has the scars to prove it. As a catalytic leader, he's been curating resources and coaching leaders for over a decade. Because Luke loves to learn and enjoys sharing what he's learned with other pastors, he founded Faithful and Fruitful to help pastors experience a lifetime of joyful, God-honoring ministry. Through resources, tools, and coaching experiences, he helps pastors build their confidence to lead for the long-haul in a changed and changing world. Faithful and Fruitful is a biblical vision of ministry and a lot of fun. As an experienced church planter, Luke also leads the Redeemer City to City Church Planting Incubator for the Surge Network in Phoenix, where he helps planters begin their churches with theological vision, effective systems, and sustainable personal habits. Luke has a communications degree from the University of Illinois, where he played third base for the Fighting Illini, as well as an M.A. in Missional Theology from Covenant Theological Seminary.
