On today's episode of The Right Time, Bomani Jones reacts to the 2025 NFL Draft and the first round of the NBA playoffs. Bo starts off the show with a deep dive on Shedeur Sanders sliding to the 5th round and why the Cleveland Browns drafted him despite already taking Dillon Gabriel (3:14). Bo proceeds to say why mock drafts are for stupid people (9:35) and that we see plenty of college players fall every year in the NFL Draft (13:20). Bo pushes back at the idea that Shedeur's situation is similar to Colin Kaepernick's (14:29) and that ultimately Deion Sanders is at fault for overplaying their hand (27:32). Next, Bomani moves onto the NBA playoffs where he says why we knew this wasn't the Los Angeles Lakers year to win it all (36:11) and that he's ready for Anthony Edwards to continue to "slay the dragon." (39:07) And finally, we have another round of If You Haven't Heard stories involving the 'worst job in America,' why robots can't make Nike's and Uber's shady practices (41:36). Then Bomani listens to some voicemails about the craziest thing you've heard playing pickup basketball (48:54). The Modern Therapist's Survival Guide with Curt Widhalm and Katie Vernoy
Why Aren't Men Becoming Therapists Anymore? Curt and Katie chat about the lack of male therapists and the decreasing number of male students in the profession. We look at current statistics and reported experiences of men in the field. We also dig into what needs to change to balance gender representation and increase the number of men becoming therapists. Transcripts for this episode will be available at mtsgpodcast.com! In this podcast episode we talk about male therapists Continuing forward within men's health month, we are looking at the state of the profession for male therapists. Statistics on men in the mental health profession Depending on license type, mental health professionals are between 60-90% female Men and women have fairly equal parity on compensation (especially when looking at similar roles) Men are less likely to seek out these jobs as the wages stagnate, the requirements become more onerous, and due to a lack of male representation and role models What needs to change to balance gender representation within the mental health field? “Men typically have privilege in other spaces… And yet I recognize in our field, that's not the case. And so, it's this weird, complex understanding of societal privilege, but not privilege within the field.” – Katie Vernoy, LMFT Understanding the difference between societal privilege versus professional privilege Identifying why the number of men is dramatically decreasing within graduate programs and all stages of licensure The impact of feminism on the conversations about the impact of white men on the field The perception of “male bashing” and the need to nurture male voices within the profession The challenge of identifying when men are being ignored or “soloed out” The problem of stereotyping, ignoring, or isolating male therapists and students Men being automatically pushed into leadership due to mentorship by male faculty and bias toward men as leaders How do we get more men into the mental health profession? “If we're identifying that men need to go and get mental health treatment, and there's no men to get it from, this then has the potential for reaching critical failure as a profession in being able to provide services.” – Curt Widhalm, LMFT Reaching critical failure in trying to provide services to men (if men no longer enter the profession) Recruitment strategies for graduate programs Making the profession sustainable for all individuals Pushing back against wage stagnation due to feminization of the profession Looking at retention and commitment for male therapists The importance of representation across the mental health profession Our Generous Sponsor for this episode of the Modern Therapist's Survival Guide: Thrizer Thrizer is a new modern billing platform for therapists that was built on the belief that therapy should be accessible AND clinicians should earn what they are worth. Their platform automatically gets clients reimbursed by their insurance after every session. Just by billing your clients through Thrizer, you can potentially save them hundreds every month, with no extra work on your end. Every time you bill a client through Thrizer, an insurance claim is automatically generated and sent directly to the client's insurance. From there, Thrizer provides concierge support to ensure clients get their reimbursement quickly, directly into their bank account. By eliminating reimbursement by check, confusion around benefits, and obscurity with reimbursement status, they allow your clients to focus on what actually matters rather than worrying about their money. It is very quick to get set up and it works great in completement with EHR systems. Their team is super helpful and responsive, and the founder is actually a long-time therapy client who grew frustrated with his reimbursement times The best part is you don't need to give up your rate. They charge a standard 3% payment processing fee! Thrizer lets you become more accessible while remaining in complete control of your practice. A better experience for your clients during therapy means higher retention. Money won't be the reason they quit on therapy. Sign up using bit.ly/moderntherapists if you want to test Thrizer completely risk free! Sign up for Thrizer with code 'moderntherapists' for 1 month of no credit card fees or payment processing fees! Declassification still possible - The Inauguration is like a bad - Hollywood produced - movie We've lost control of the election process - we will no longer have a meaningful election Elections have been manipulated forever - but this time they figured that they had the ability to control it Now the cabal thinks that America is back on their rails - they will never let an outsider in ever again 1984 finally happened - they were so afraid of fascism that they became fascists Elon Musk may be the only possible outsider - but 3rd parties do not matter - anything matters in politics anymore Is the only path violent revolution? Let's hope not - might be just a few folks playing god - its beyond money Is there any way to stop the agenda of American destruction: high taxes, socialized healthcare With all of this pumping of money into the economy - where is inflation? You can't have socialism without capitalism nearby - they will destroy us through high taxes and socialized medicine The Inauguration: Biden, waving, steps aside and Xi walks up behind him, waving. Crowned King of America Who will save America - possibly Mexico? You can only go so far with the American Underground Will we be hunted down? Maybe ship us to Mars? How about Old Mans War? A note from Talking Taiwan host Felicia Lin: In 2013 I spoke with Andrew Yang who was the CEO of Venture for America at the time. He was at his office and multi-tasking during our interview, so when you listen to the interview, you’ll hear some background noise and typing. At the time he talked about being invited to the White House amongst several things. Who would have predicted that a few years later that he would be running as a Democrat for the 2020 U.S. President election? Many now know him as the Presidential candidate who proposed something called the “Freedom Dividend.” With the 2020 U.S. Presidential election results unfolding, and Joe Biden recently declared President-elect, some say that there may place for Andrew in the Biden administration. I thought it would be a good time to share this interview that I did with Andrew. What does it mean to be well in America? Who is seen as deserving of healthcare? Racism has plagued the American medical system since its inception and continues to produce disparities in health and life expectancy to this day. In this episode, Carvell Wallace and Jeffery Robinson trace the decades-long epidemic of sharply higher mortality rates among both Black people giving birth and their babies. In conversation with OB/GYN and maternal/infant health advocate Dr. Joia Crear-Perry, as well as SéSé Doula Services founder Nicole JeanBaptiste, we’ll examine the way the healthcare system was designed to fail Black people, with a focus on Black maternal and infant health. Merrick Rosenberg, author of Personality Wins: Who Will Take the White House and How We Know. Personality has determined the winner of the last twenty-two U.S. presidential elections—and it will decide who wins in 2020. Trump is an eagle. Clinton was an eagle and a parrot. Biden is being portrayed as a dove but historically has been a parrot. Parrots are always churping and making gaffs. Doves are passive and consensus builders. Owls are calm and into wisdom. "The Greeks had a word for it 'Charisma.' In the theatre we call it 'Stage Presence.' JFK had it, so did Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama. Nixon did not. The jury is still out on whether Donald Trump can be saved by his own version. Another U.S. presidential election is underway, and Americans are engaged in the time-honored tradition of judging candidates by their personalities. It may sound unwise to pick the future leader of the free world based on personality traits rather than platforms, policies, and ideology, but that is exactly what Americans do. In fact, personality explains the results of the last twenty-two U.S. elections—and can predict who will win in 2020. Personality expert Merrick Rosenberg and co-author Richard Ellis have developed an unprecedented system that reveals the pattern of who takes the White House and why. In this exploration of U.S. presidential elections, you’ll uncover the unique characteristics of Eagles (Donald Trump and Franklin D. Roosevelt), Parrots (Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan), Doves (Dwight D. Eisenhower and Jimmy Carter), and Owls (George H.W. Bush and Richard Nixon) who occupied the Oval Office. You’ll discover that no matter what is happening in the world and what the candidates propose, nothing stops certain personalities from winning elections.

Is America finally going through a social revolution? Or will empty gestures and virtue signaling by corporations and elite institutions drown out demands to overturn the country’s economic inequities? This week on “The Argument,” Opinion columnist Jamelle Bouie joins Ross Douthat and Michelle Goldberg to debate whether the recent changes symbolize a true turning point, or whether institutions are merely placating a powerful movement that they in some ways fear. Then, the columnists turn to rethinking memorials across America: Who deserves a statue? Whose statue should be torn down? And, going forward, what do we want America to commemorate as its collective inheritance? For background reading on this episode, visit nytimes.com/theargument
"Market Urbanism is the intersection of urban issues and free market philosophy." We interview Scott Beyer of the Market Urbanism Report to introduce the ideas of Market Urbanism and discuss a broad sweep of issues in housing, transportation, and governance. Use hashtag #ana030 to reference this episode in a tweet, post, or comment View full show notes at http://anarchitecturepodcast.com/ana030. Intro Contrition Joe's urbanism crash course Tim met some OG Market Urbanists Scott Beyer and the Market Urbanism Report Demystifying urbanist jargon Market Urbanists are down in the trenches We are explicitly ideological, Scott is more pragmatic Urban issues have a natural affinity for libertarian solutions - becuase they work Three broad categories - Housing, Transportation, and Governance The Anarchitecture Podcast All-Star Game (details in links below) Discussion What is Market Urbanism? Cross between free-market policy and urban issues Theory - how would decentralized private cities work? Practical set of policy reforms Market oriented reforms How did Scott get interested in these ideas? Living in cities, interested in urban issues Why are projects hard to get approved? Why do downtowns empty out at 5PM? Research led to more libertarian understanding Influential writers MarketUrbanism.com Jane Jacobs Ed Glaeser We see urbanism as a conduit to bring libertarian / free market ideas to a broader audience People think of cities as complex infrastructure managed by big government A more granular look is more libertarian - the "Street Ballet" of voluntary exchange "When cities follow that libertarian impulse, they do really well." Nobody has planned the allocation of specific businesses and residences Housing Market Urbanism approach - a free-flowing, unregulated, market-oriented process Theory - How would cities develop under a free market? Practical - specific problems and policies in cities Restrictive Zoning Single Family Zoning in hot markets San Francisco - around 75% zoned for single family or duplex "The city cannot change." Setback Requirements Lot Coverage Requirements Parking Minimums Density Requirements Minimum Lot Size - an historic 6-unit building restricted to 2 units Counterintuitive zoning - do the planning boards even understand these impacts? The empty husk - 8-story building limited to 12 units means the units will be large and unaffordable No, they don't understand What has motivated zoning requirements? Early 20th century; cities grew using a combination of private deed restrictions and municipal zoning Racism and classism - "they thought that was a good thing!" Separating industry from housing Euclid v. Amber - "Euclidean Zoning" Late 20th century; more subjective and aesthetic, more complex Do cities have a responsibility to preserve property values? No - zoning should not be a protection for special interests The irony - absent the regulations, property values would increase MUH CHARACTER OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD If a potential buyer can subdivide my lot, that increases my property value - capturing the location value twice Policy success - "by-right" incremental development allowed in some states ADU - Accessory Dwelling Unit; an additional unit on a single family property Attached: basement apartment Detached: backyard cottage, granny flat "We won't build proper housing for the Millenials, but we'll put them in the basement." ADU - a fiction created by zoning ordinances - the state taketh, then giveth back but a mere morsel It's better than nothing, but we need new housing Filtering The more new houses you build, the cheaper old houses become (in elastic markets) Gentrification Less than 10% of people get displaced, and relocate to a similar quality neighborhood (see links below) Existing owners tend to benefit from positive externalities Middle ground - allow the new developments, give housing vouchers You can't prevent neighborhoods from changing Inclusionary Zoning (IZ) - "Rent Control 2.0" Allow developers to build to a certain level if they allocate a percentage of "Affordable" units IZ tends to reduce the overall supply of housing by making projects less feasible Transportation Theory - Can a market provide sufficient transit efficiency? Examples of privatizated transport Mexico City - Paseros - "The Uber of Driving!" Uber - The Paseros of America "Who will build the roads?" Alain Bertaud - Order Without Design - Does the government need to build key infrastructure? Right-of-ways in developed places Brightline High Speed Rail (HSR) - Miami to Fort Lauderdale Proposed bullet trains hitting right of way issues Acela train - slows down through every Connecticut NIMBY town Trade-offs between nuisances and benefits Direct negotiations vs. government mediated negotiations Coase Theorem - if you want to obstruct development, you need to pay for that right Pigouvian tax Mitigation rather than obstruction If you live in NYC, you should expect tall buildings around you High speed rail can increase property values - sell it for a windfall and move away from the nuisance Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Value capture - train companies own and develop surrounding land plots to fund the rail In USA, regulatory hurdles prevent TOD For state owned transit agencies, there is no profit motive to develop How do you manage a complex street grid? Pricing different uses; NO FREE PARKING Bus operators could out-bid cars for street space Privatizing public space Market pricing for street space could entice further investment Pricing sidewalks and curb space Buses and bike share could carve out their spaces Scattered scooters - tragedy of the commons Prohibition and monopoly contracts for scooters There is no free parking No market incentive to build a small commercial garage Charge market rates for on-street parking Balancing the interest of local business owners - "We'll see how valuable it is to him" In urban contexts, most customers aren't driving to your store Increasing the cost of parking makes other transit options more attractive "Drivers in Boston are jerks, but drivers in Manhattan are just insane" The less space you allocate to parking, the more space you have for street beautification Car-free streets Social distancing promotes outdoor seating "Let the market work; let the consumer decide" City Governance City services shouldn't be government-run Charter Schools Privatizing (or "divesting", or "DESTATALIZING") public space Value Capture Land Value Tax - recoup value of improvements for reinvestment Government provision - no pricing feedback loops User Fees - direct market feedback Tax Increment Financing (TIF) - tax on incremental value of a specific amenity What about people who can't afford fees? Guaranteed minimum income Voucher model - rather than funding an MTA, give people transit vouchers and let the market determine transit modalities Let wealth redistribution be a separate, more efficient system Neoliberalism - "Fund People, not Beauraucracy" Obstacles are political - vested interests, patronage mills What impact is Market Urbanism having? Have you taken the Mark of the Beast? Is Mystery Babylon the United States of America? Who will be the False Prophet? I will use scripture to clear up a few misconceptions about these topics on today’s edition of End of the Age!
Dr. Yaba Blay is the Dan Blue Endowed Chair in Political Science at North Carolina Central University. An ethnographer, scholar, and content creator, her scholarship centers on global Black identities and the politics of embodiment, with particular attention given to hair and skin color politics. In 2012, Dr. Blay partnered with CNN to produce Black in America: Who is Black in America? – a television documentary inspired by her book, (1)ne Drop: Shifting the Lens on Race. In it, she explores the interconnected nuances of skin color politics and Black racial identity, and challenges narrow perceptions of Blackness as both an identity and a lived reality. Named to The Root 100 (2014), an annual list of top Black influencers, she is one of today's leading voices on colorism and global skin color politics and, to date, her commentary has been featured across some of today's leading media outlets including: CNN, BET, MSNBC, NPR, The New York Times, Ebony Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Root, Huffington Post Live, Colorlines, Al Jazeera America. Applauded by O, The Oprah Magazine for her social media activism, Dr. Blay is the creator and producer of a number of online campaigns including #PrettyPeriod - a visual celebration of dark-skinned Black beauty - and #ProfessionalBlackGirl - a webseries and multi-platform digital community dedicated to celebrating Black Girl culture. Professional Black Girl is a multi-platform digital community that celebrates the everyday magic of Black women and girls! By announcing ourselves “Professional Black Girls,” we assert an unapologetic identity in a world that too often tries to tell us how we “ought to” act. We know that “acting” like anything other than ourselves robs us of our freedom, so instead, we choose, embrace, and celebrate who we are. We are professional code-switchers. We hold Ph.Ds and listen to trap music. We twerk and we work. We are Professional Black Girls. Jillian Bessett: The voice in the intro and outro belong to songwriter Jillian Bessett. Jillian Bessett is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose evocative lyrics and welcoming stage presence have endeared her to audiences throughout the southwest music scene. Jillian is currently writing music and gigging with her new favorite instrument the Boss RC-505 Looping Station. **Referenced in the interview: ** Sonya Renee Taylor is the Founder and Radical Executive Officer of The Body is Not An Apology, a digital media and education company promoting radical self-love and body empowerment as the foundational tool for social justice and global transformation. Sonya's work as a highly sought-after award-winning Performance Poet, activist, and transformational leader continues to have global reach. Sonya is a former National and International poetry slam champion and author of two books, including The Body is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love. She is an educator and thought leader who has enlightened and inspired organizations, audiences and individuals from board rooms to prisons, universities to homeless shelters, elementary schools to some of the biggest stages in the world. Tarana Burke 's passion for community organizing began in the late 1980s, when she joined a youth development organization called 21st Century and led campaigns around issues like racial discrimination, housing inequality and economic justice. Her career took a turn toward supporting survivors of sexual violence upon moving to Selma, Alabama, to work for 21st Century. She encountered dozens of black girls who were sharing stories of sexual violence and abuse, stories she identified with very well. She realized too many girls were suffering through abuse without access to resources, safe spaces and support, so in 2007 she created Justbe Inc., an organization committed to the empowerment and wellness of black girls. The impacts of Justbe Inc. are widespread, as the program, which was adopted by every public school in Selma, has hundreds of alumni who have gone on to thrive and succeed in various ways. Burke's role as the senior director at Girls for Gender Equity in Brooklyn, NY, an intergenerational nonprofit dedicated to strengthening local communities by creating opportunities for young women and girls to live self-determined lives, is a continuation of what she considers her life's work. Since #MeToo, the movement she created more than ten years ago, became a viral hashtag, she has emerged as a global leader in the evolving conversation around sexual violence and the need for survivor-centered solutions. Her theory of using empathy to empower survivors is changing the way the nation and the world think about and engage with survivors. Her belief that healing isn't a destination but a journey has touched and inspired millions of survivors who previously lived with the pain, shame and trauma of their assaults in isolation. Howcee Productions Gospel Morning Show Monday Jan. 30 2017. America Who do you Love? Howe well do you know God? God goodness and grace He shown mercy from generation to generation to all who fear him Luke 1:50 America America America who do you love? God is a Powerful God. God. He knows what the race/hate is in America. It's still here, in the hearts of some men. I know this America that we live in today some have the mind to let God. It very hard for me when it keeps reverberating over and over again and again. Some of our white brothers as well as others know what they have done and still doing veil ways. Some say let it go. When you see the talk in America about the two labels we in America put on our veil of hate for our brothers and sisters in the form LIBERAL vs CONSERVATIVE., Right vs the Left. Gay vs Straight. How is it that the America we live in day to day. Hate each other so much? especially the the black skins of it brothers so much. I some time ask God why/but in the power of human understanding. God knows it will harden my heart for my white anglo skin brothers and sisters. so he tell me the truth you are not ready for. Their are some thing you do not need to know. I am 70 years old. This day I now understand the level of evil hate in the hearts of my white (I say some) brothers and sister. Only Satan can fill a human heart to hate another human like this. This is the kind of hate and evil that led to the death of the Jews and Indians African and men of all colors and kind by their brothers . This is the Evil of the fight Cain and Abel. Cain kill Abel. Satan the deceiver the lier. the ruler of this world. Some day we will all understand it better By and By.

In this week's ball-beating episode, Magnus once again teams up with Chris Honeywell from Two True Freaks to talk about roving gangs, the criminal underworld and thug-life forever. Yes indeed, this is another entry in the Big Book Report. In this week's adventure, the Big Book Reporters work their way through the Big Book of Thugs from DC/Paradox Press. It's a long sordid tale of thieves, scum and every kind of reject you can imagine. And that's all before talking about the characters featured in the book! What did it take to build America? Who in his right mind would be crazy enough to even try? And what are the lasting legacies of the expansionist era of the United States? All these subjects and more are discussed this week! For those determined to ruin the Internet for everyone else by perpetuating click-bait on Facebook, "Honeywell's encounter with mob thugs will make you pee your pants!" Due to the avalanche of ass-kickery, unfortunately there was just no time for listener feedback this week. Something will need to be done about the backlog of feedback. But don't worry, loyal subjects, your leader has a few ideas. But in the meantime, don't let the lack of feedback this time get you down! You can still offer your feeble effort at tribute! You humble serfs are always welcome to kiss your benevolent leader's ring. Corrupt DiManzocorp interns are ready, willing, able and eager to accept your bribe to present your meager missives to your wise emperor. The email address to use is trentusmagnus@gmail.com as the other seems to be having technical problems. In an another sublime act of truly unprecedented charity, the leader permits you lowly rabble to suggest topics for a future episode. Thus, petitions may be sent to trentusmagnus@gmail.com for DiManzocorp interns to review, whereupon your leader might consider thinking about the possibility of potentially discussing whatever you have in mind some day. And that's a promise!

America Who do You Love? Black/White History America Who do You Love? Henry Louis Gates Jr.'s 20 Black History Events You Should Know We here @ Howcee Productions Gospel BTR Thank Elliott Williams for this we agree. AFRICAN AMERICAN/BLACK HISTORY should be studied and celebrated 12 months of the year, 365-366 days 24 hours. Just recently, this "movement" was suggested by a well-educated/celebrated AFRICAN AMERICAN/BLACK HISTORY scholar/advocate. I recommend action and attention be paid to, and prompted, this idea WORLD-WIDE. We have too long been navigating through hundreds/thousands of books/documents to compile our history.
