It was a furious charge at the end of the race from Sebastien Buemi that led the #8 Toyota Gazoo Racing team of himself, Brendon Hartley, and Ryo Hirakawa to not only take a dramatic victory at WEC's Championship finale at the 8 Hours of Bahrain but also winning the Manufacturer's Championship in the process, preventing a clean sweep of the titles for Porsche. Kevin Turner and Gary Watkins sit down for the last time this season and discuss the thrilling finale that decided the race. The duo also talks about the crowning of the Drivers Champions in Porsche's #6 crew of Andre Lotterer, Kevin Estre, and Laurens Vanthoor and the shock demotion of Ferrari off the podium for a bizarre rule breach on tyres used over the weekend, promoting Peugeot onto the podium as a result. There's also the latest news on the reports that Lamborghini could be scaling back their Sportscar commitments in 2025 with rumours of an IMSA switch imminent, as well as a full review of LMGT3 as the #55 AF Corse Ferrari team took victory. Gary Watkins joins Kevin Turner to review all the action from Fuji, including the missed opportunities left on the table by Toyota and Ferrari, as well as Cadillac's Earl Bamber, who span off into the outside wall late on. There's also praise for Charles Milesi with chat about Alpine and BMW's improvement over the course of the season. And as usual, there's a full review of the LMGT3 class too, as AF Corse got Ferrari's first win of the season, and the Manthey PureRacing Porsche squad of Bachler, Malykhin and Sturm wrapped up the Championship with a round to spare. Formula E is back! And there wasn't a struggle to be found as Jake Dennis retained his scintillating form at the end of the 2022 season with one of the most dominant wins in series history as Gen3 got underway in Mexico City! Jake Dennis won by 7 seconds with Porsche's in 1st, 2nd and 4th as Pascal Wehrlein passed some f***ing cars to get to second, and then Andre Lotterer in 4th in the second Andretti. With the pre-season talking hinting about DS Powertrains being at the top, this was an upset! And we gotta give Jake Hughes his flowers for a damn good McLaren debut in the leading group, and Sasha Fenestraz for making the duels at the first time of asking. And Lucas Di Grassi ended up on pole. With Mahindra's at both ends of the grid. Because even when things change in Formula E, chaos still reigns. All of that and more on another, Motorsport101!

Formula E headed off to a brand new round as their 2022 season continued, as Jakarta became a well-liked and enjoyable round on the calendar. We talk MITCCCCCCCCCH BRAAAAAAAAAAAH as he claimed a narrow, but frenetic third win of the season over Jean-Eric Vergne and Edo Mortara with just under a second covering the trio over the line. We break down how he won, and how dramatic it was. We also get into an interesting debate over the track itself, and how it... wasn't really a "Street Circuit" compared to most on the Formula E calendar. There's no doubt Indonesia was well received by drivers like Nyck De Vries, Stoffel Vandoorne and others, but we the hosts got into a debate about whether its a good thing the series is turning away from its roots. We also talk Nyck De Vries probably being out of title contention after a puncture ended his race at the hands of Andre Lotterer (again). Should Mercs be telling Nyck to step aside to support Stoffel's campaign? We discuss that and more on Motorsport101!

You know you're a badass when you can extend a race by an extra lap and cripple a Formula E field… Just because you can. Welcome to Formula E in Mexico, Round 3 of the World Championship, and we had a genuinely great time with this one. We had Edo Mortara gunning for pole sideways in a brilliant set of improved Duels, and that was the pre-show! Mexico City's ePrix was a superb race. We had some great action up the front as Mortara, Frijns, the Porsche's and the DS Techeetah's up the front. But we were all bamboozled by Porsche's second half of the race, saving energy, taking the front of the field and then dominating to take a 1-2 finish. They even had time to sprinkle in a little of the classic Formula E chaos as with just a second left on the clock, the Porsche's crossed the line to extend the race by an extra lap, and it wrecked havoc with the midfield as Jaguar and Avalanche were caught napping as they were essentially out of battery. And in all of that, Pascal Wehrlein finally gets his first Formula E win, and this time, he got to keep it! We break it all down, as well as a surprisingly docile Andre Lotterer following Pascal home in 2nd! But this race was absolutely happily fun-times, so of course, this'll be our last race for two months. See you in Rome on April 9th, but it's genuinely great to be enjoying Formula E again, so enjoy the show!

This week, it's a valentines special, although there's no love for FIA's Michael Masi, as the controversy continues over the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Yes, the debate over the rulings at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix continue. An audio file has been uncovered showing that both Red Bull and Mercedes were coaching Michael Masi's decisions. Michael could've turned his radio off though, and didn't have to respond to the pressure from the Team Principals! We can't move on until justice is made! We can all agree, both Lewis Hamilton fans and Max Verstappen fans, that Michael Masi made a mistake. We just want fair racing! Verstappen deserved to win, but the ultimate race was decided by the fault of the stewards. The excitement continues with Formula 1 though, as we have new 2022 season cars being released this month! In Formula E, we had their round in Mexico at the weekend. The Porsche team appeared to get their strategy right, winning their first race in the sport. Congratulations to Pascal Wehrlein and Andre Lotterer for taking 1st and 2nd in a very entertaining race! Should there be DRS in Formula E? Over in the Middle East, we had 2x four hour races in Dubai, with some wins for British drivers in the GT racing categories. We also had Formula Regional races, with wins for Charles LeClerc's brother, Arthur. Next weekend, Tiff is off to Daytona! One of the jewels in the racing calendar! With new cars, central locking wheels and Kyle Larsson back in action! We also have Extreme E coming back with what sounds like new teams!

Show #565   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 29th August 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   PORSCHE REVEALS 99X ELECTRIC 2019/20 FE CAR "Porsche has unveiled the 99X Electric ABB FIA Formula E car for its maiden season in the championship. The car was revealed by Porsche’s 2019/20 FE drivers Neel Jani and Andre Lotterer at the end of an interactive launch event hosted on livestream gaming platform Twitch that took place over four hours at the Porsche Digital GmbH premises in Ludwigsburg." reports Motorsport.com: "The 99X Electric features Porsche’s traditional motorsport colours of white, black and red. It is named in Porsche’s usual fashion – with the three digits representing Porsche’s racing cars and two-door road machines. Porsche has been gearing up for its FE debut – its first major international competition entry since it left the LMP1 class of the WEC at the end of 2017 – by working through its allotted 15 days of private FE manufacturer-allocated testing."   https://www.motorsport.com/formula-e/news/porsche-reveals-99x-electric-car/4522789/   CHEVROLET BOLT EV TAX CREDIT TO BE FURTHER REDUCED IN OCTOBER "The federal electric vehicle tax incentive on the Chevrolet Bolt EV will be reduced from $3,750 to just $1,875 as of October 1st, 2019." says GMAuthority.com: "Late last year, General Motors announced that it had sold 200,000 vehicles eligible for the federal tax incentive program. Once a manufacturer reaches this milestone, customers no longer qualify for the full $7,500 federal tax credit, with the incentive reducing by 50 percent six months later and then down to 25 percent another six months after that. Not only will acting now allow you to capitalize on the higher $3,750 incentive instead of the smaller $1,875 one, there are also some steep discounts being offered on 2019 model year versions of the vehicle. Autoblog reports that Chevrolet Bolt EV buyers are seeing steep discounts of up to $9,000 this month, representing nearly a quarter of the car’s original MSRP. For 2020, the hatchback gets an EPA-certified driving range of 259 miles combined, representing an increase of 21 miles over the 2019 model year. That means the base Bolt EV has superior range to the base Tesla Model 3 and also matches the range of the well-received Hyundai Kona EV."   http://gmauthority.com/blog/2019/08/chevrolet-bolt-ev-tax-credit-to-be-further-reduced-in-october/   TESLA JUICES EUROPEAN SUPERCHARGERS TO 150 KILOWATTS "European Tesla owners will spend a little less time at Supercharger stations the next time they top off the battery. After a Twitter user noted the charge rate, Tesla confirmed the upgrade with a retweet." reports Roadshow by CNET: "Most of the chargers across the Old Continent are now operating at 150 kW with a few in the United Kingdom at 130 kW. Here in the US, the V2-generation chargers operate at 120 kW. Tesla previously said this past March it would unlock 145 kW from US-based Superchargers in the weeks to come. It's unclear how many of the stations are running the boosted power, if any. The fact Europe's power boost is online may be a sign Tesla is readying the upgrade for the US, but we're also awaiting Tesla's V3 Supercharger stations. The next-generation chargers promise charging rates of 250 kW per car -- no need to split power with a car in the adjacent stall."   https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/tesla-supercharger-europe-charging-time/   PRICES TO DROP ON THE VW E-GOLF "VW has lowered the price of the e-Golf  in Germany. As electrive was able to find out, Volkswagen will be successively lowering the price of the e-Golf in other European countries as well, with the exact amount always depending on the respective market." says electrive: "In Germany, the electric city car now costs only 31,900 euros instead of 35,900 euros according to the configurator. The base price in Germany will thus fall by 4,000 euros."   https://www.electrive.com/2019/08/29/prices-to-drop-on-the-vw-e-golf/   TESLA SHOWCASES FIRST MODEL 3 MADE IN CHINA "As rumored yesterday, Tesla really presented at the 2019 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai the first Model 3 produced at the Gigafactory 3. Show #443   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 14th April 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Hello to new Patreon PRODUCER Pete Stothard holland   DAVID FINCH : I’ve just listened to the Saturday podcast. I’m not sure if it’s worthy of a little correction or not, but you quoted Elon as saying deliveries starting May / June, when in fact his tweet said “hopefully June / July”.   RENE SCHNIEDER: "I just got a letter these minutes that the standard range plus is available for order in Switzerland: „From today on the Model 3 Standard Range Plus is available in Switzerland."   TOM RAFTERY: "It that time of year to organise the summer holidays (possibly I’ve left it a bit late already!). And I want to bring the family to Norway to show them what a country with a high penetration of Evs can look like (and to take in the beautiful scenery Norway can offer). I have been trying to find information on EV hire options in Norway, and there isn’t a lot out there (that I found)."   RIVIAN R1T TRUCK & R1S SUV WOW NYC AHEAD OF AUTO SHOW "The New York Auto Show doesn’t officially open to the public until April 19th, but that doesn’t mean the fun hasn’t already started. The weekend before an auto show opens is usually the real kickoff party, with manufacturers trying to get a jump on the competition, and many opt to show off their new vehicles before they hit the show floor the following week. That precisely what Rivian did with its R1T electric pickup truck and R1S electric SUV." reports Tom " InsideEVs.com: "These events were mostly for VIPs and reservation holders; they weren’t press events where we could schedule interview time, so unfortunately nothing new was learned. I suspect if Rivian is going to announce any new news, it will be done so during the Auto Show for maximum exposure. As you might expect, the crowd was extremely enthusiastic, and it reminded me of how it feels at Tesla events. Since most of the people in attendance were reservation holders, they were already on-board with what Rivian is doing. Plus, for most, it was their first opportunity to see the vehicles that they plunked $1,000 down on to reserve."   https://insideevs.com/rivian-wows-nyc-r1t-electric-pickup-truck-video/   MITCH EVANS EARNS FIRST FORMULA E VICTORY FOR PANASONIC JAGUAR RACING Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Mitch Evans claims an emotional first victory in Rome with DS Techeetah’s Andre Lotterer in second and HWA Racelab’s Stoffel Vandoorne bringing home both his and the team’s first podium finish in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship. Evans stalked the back of Lotterer’s car in the opening phase of the race, with the DS TECHEETAH driver unable to pull a gap. With both teams and drivers evenly-matched on pace, it became a tactical battle about when to deploy ATTACK MODE.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ccQUaK9RlM   AUDI ANNOUNCES Q2 L E-TRON WITH 38 KWH BATTERY FOR CHINA From the Audi Press Office: "two electric models will make their series debut in Shanghai: the Audi e-tron* and the Q2 L e-tron, which was designed especially for China and is built in the Foshan plant. The compact SUV, which will be delivered to the first customers in the summer of 2019, is even experiencing its world premiere in Shanghai. Audi CEO Bram Schot: “With both the Audi Q2 L e-tron and Audi e-tron electric models, we are launching a new era in China with our partner FAW. The compact SUV will be produced locally already this year and, beginning in 2020, the Audi e-tron will also be produced in China, our largest and most important market worldwide.” The body of the Audi Q2 L e-tron is 33 millimeters (1.3 in) longer than that of the basic model. The car is powered by an electric motor on the front axle that mobilizes 100 kilowatts and 290 newton meters (213.9 lb-ft). With a battery capacity of 38 kilowatt hours, it has a range of up to 265 kilometers (164.7 mi), determined according to the local homologation procedure."   https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/press-releases/audi-at-auto-shanghai-2019-11479   POLESTAR 2 PUTS FOCUS ON CHINA WITH MANUFACTURING SITE AND FIRST POLESTAR SPACE LOCATION CONFIRMED At the Chinese debut of the Polestar 2 in Shanghai, Polestar confirmed that production of the new electric performance fastback will take place in Luqiao, Zhejiang Province, from early 2020. The production facility will also produce world-class Volvo and Lynk & Co. models that share their core CMA platform with Polestar 2. Polestar 2 is the first car on the modular chassis to feature a fully electric drivetrain. Thomas Ingeleth, Chief Executive Officer at Polestar: “Being able to produce Polestar 2 in the Luqiao plant in China shows the clear synergies of our ownership structure and gives us a great industrial advantage. With Geely and Volvo Cars as our owners, we are able to leverage their expertise in many different ways. Manufacturing is one of the most important areas, helping us accelerate our progress and entry into the market with the confidence that Polestar 2 production will begin as planned early next year.” Following the confirmation in 2018 that the first-ever Polestar Space will be located in Oslo, Norway, Polestar has now confirmed that the first Polestar Space in China will be located in central Beijing. Establishing the Polestar footprint initially in Oslo and Beijing highlights two of the world’s most influential electric car markets as primary targets for the brand. The Polestar Space in Beijing will open in late 2019 and signals the roll-out of Polestar Spaces in China. Around 20 facilities spread between 11 Chinese cities will be opened during 2020 – about one third of all initial Polestar Spaces expected to be opened globally.   ELON MUSK ANNOUNCES APRIL 22 AS START OF TESLA FULL SELF DRIVING "Tesla announced a new event – Tesla Autonomy Investor Day – on April 22 at its headquarters in Palo Alto. There are not many details about the event, besides the topic of autonomous driving. According to Elon Musk, investors can expect a demo of full autonomous driving," says Mark Kane for InsideEVs.com: "One of the biggest projects is the Tesla Network – a fleet of autonomous cars, available for sharing. It would be a double win for the manufacturer – first because it provides another stream of revenue and second because Tesla could use cars at the end of lease (no buyout option was previously announced)."   https://insideevs.com/musk-announces-april-22-as-start-of-tesla-full-self-driving/   VOLKSWAGEN UNVEILS ID. ROOMZZ ELECTRIC SUV CONCEPT IN SHANGHAI; SERIES MODEL IN 2021 Volkswagen is expanding its electric ID. product range with a multi-variable all-round model: the new ID. ROOMZZ—a zero-emission SUV in the five meter category. Volkswagen will present the concept car as part of a world première at Auto Shanghai (18 to 26 April) in an homage to China, currently the largest market for zero-emission vehicles. The series version of the ID. ROOMZZ—which follows on the more compact ID. CROZZ—is scheduled to take to the road from 2021. Alongside the ID. ROOMZZ, the ID. CROZZ and the compact ID. (all set to have a market début in 2020), other members of this new electric vehicle family include the iconic ID. BUZZ van and the avant-garde saloon ID. VIZZION (both will make their market début in 2022). in the European WLTP cycle the maximum range is 450 kilometers (280 miles). The battery is charged via an inductive interface. Conventional charging via a plug is also possible. The ID. ROOMZZ combines its IQ.DRIVE systems, enabling the concept car to navigate traffic all by itself (fully automated) as desired. Volkswagen is consolidating all assistance systems and technologies involved in autonomous driving under the umbrella brand IQ.DRIVE."   https://www.greencarcongress.com/2019/04/20190414-roomzz.html   QUESTION OF THE WEEK BRIAN THOMPSON Several reasons to be reticent... - Parts and service centers are not readily available -if you had rich rebuilds in your town, I would consider -I've recently had some things crop up at 70k on my 85 S that would have cost a lot had it not have been a covered under warranty. They replaced the entire battery pack.  Then a couple thousand miles later the charge port went out.  On the loaner they gave me, that car had 50k on it, the main screen went out... -if you had rich rebuilds knowledge, then you could go for it, but at 250k there is no, zero, zippo warranty and you would be covering the cost.  If you still are interested, call and ask Tesla what the cost is to get a rebuilt high voltage battery pack, as well as getting the main CPU and screen replaced, as well as drive unit and inverter. Those are the big ticket items. If this was ten years from now and there were lots of used parts available then it would be a different situation.  I would try to claw my way into a CPO car with less than 50k on it, that way it comes with 4 year 50k warranty. In the US, tesla is selling the 2012 and 2013 85s in the low $30,000 with financing.   RAJEEV NARAYAN I think one should expect to have to put some money into any vehicle with > 250,000 miles, with respect to EVs the question is the longevity of the expensive bits- the powertrain and the battery. It is known that an electric powertrain generally lasts much longer, in fact I think Tesla even suggested their powertrain can go potentially > 1 million miles. With respect to the battery, I know the NMC 622 cells in most EVs nowadays can cycle about 2,000 to 3,000 times before i'ts capacity has degraded to 80 to 90%, at which point they say it's "unsuitable" for further EV use, though in my opinion that's debatable- given the C rating of most of these battery cells. My Chevy Bolt has a 60kWH battery and EPA estimate of 3.8miles/kWH, giving 456,000 to 684,000 miles.   ASEER A EV is different and a million mile is not that outlandish a claim as motors run production lines 24/7 for many years and we don’t expect them to fail quickly today the same would be true for EVs and given that brakes also last longer (regen) it seems if your a highmiler EV is an obvious choice. This is before we take into consideration comfort and space.   JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE Firstly I think you should go for a high mileage Tesla, I would if I could afford it. Would make a great story to write about and to follow...”Life with a super high mileage Tesla” or “High mileage Tesla....what could go wrong”   JOHN FRUHWIRTH Given what I know now, Yes, I would buy a very high mileage EV but iff (if and only if) it is was a Tesla model 3. Why? Because: Its drive train is guaranteed for 1 million miles. Its batteries should last anywhere from 300k-500k miles. It's frame has been over engineered. It is the safest car on the road ...John Fruhwirth   TOBE IN SAN DIEGO I for one think it'd be brilliant for you to get the super high mileage Tesla and keep us apprised of your trials and tribulations with it...if you can afford it. I presume that could at least be considered a business expense for a podcaster like you.  I would definitely worry that it could  end up costing costing you some pounds though.   (plus in depth story about his 2012 Model S 85)   MATT PISCIONE Yes. with a caveat. As someone who works as a technician for an automotive manufacturer with an EV named after something that you might find in trees, based on their battery degradation issues I would probably not. However, the mechanical components are very durable as they are shared with other vehicles. That being said, I would be much more inclined to purchase a different EV that does not have battery degradation issues.   JAMES LOVES as a Mercedes Benz master tech here in California I my self have replaced six -B- class "ELECTRIC MACHINES" due to internal coolant leaks. These repairs were done under warranty  thank goodness  as the ELECTRIC MACHINE is a very pricey item. This front wheel drive unit is the same as the rear power unit used in the Tesla model -S-. Another thing one might consider is the battery warranty is 8 years 100k(miles) how ever a high voltage battery inspection of degradation must be performed annually and recorded.(Tesla battery Tesla drive train) if not performed or skipped the warranty is lost. This has kept me from My own purchase of a used -B- class as they are truly a blast to drive and have all the comforts of a Benz.   DAFYDD Although all the electric gubbins would in all likelihood have plenty of life left in them. One has to consider, the rest of the vehicle has also done all those miles too. As have all the interior fittings.   I’d be more willing to buy such a vehicle if I lived in Norway, Sweden, Finland or the like, where they routinely under-seal a vehicle for winter and clean it off and inspect the underside in spring. I’d be more willing to buy one, if the vehicle had be kept hot dry climate. Where salting roads was unheard of.   CHARLIE MILNER I'm currently looking at a second had Tesla. I'm looking at up to 90,000 miles. One thing that would concern me is the suspension wear. I had an old MK4 golf that after 120k miles the tracking was adjusted as much as possible and it was only just about ok. Indicating suspension components needed to be changed. If there is evidence the tracking is ok and it's been well looked after I'd consider higher milage. The motor and battery (especially with Tesla) is not a concern to me.   GARETH FROM THE CHARGEUP CAMPAIGN Although it does not meet your definition of high mileage my 2014 Leaf has been a bit of a mixed bag. Technically within the warranty period but with 96k on the clock it was outside the warranty range by about 36k. It has been pretty much reliable but I have found that I am paying for the maintenance for other people’s miles (droplink bars, track rod ends, tyres, 12 battery etc) and the charger died since as an ex taxi it had done over 4,600 rapid charges. I fixed this myself at a cost of £500 though Nissan wanted a mere £24k! My hope is that now all that work is done it will just work for quite some time.   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Bird had spent the majority of the race hounding long-time leader Lotterer and the Envision Virgin Racing driver held a sizeable energy advantage as the finish approached. On the penultimate lap at the Turn 2 90-degree right hander, Bird hit Lotterer’s right rear tyre, which caused a puncture a few corners later that dropped the DS Techeetah driver from the lead down into 14th and last of the classified drivers."   https://www.motorsport.com/formula-e/news/bird-lotterer-penalty-win-stripped/4350171/   TESLA CHANGES STRATEGY: WILL RAISE PRICES AND REDUCE STORE CLOSURES "Tesla just announced that during further evaluation of its plan to close many stores, it has come to a new conclusion. The automaker now plans to leave “significantly more stores” open so that it can continue to evaluate the situation." Says Steven Loveday for InsideEVs.com: "Tesla points out that the stores it previously closed weren’t popular stores in the first place, and would have been closed regardless. It will have to review other stores over many months to determine if closure makes the most sense. In the meantime, the automaker will increase prices globally by about 3 percent. However, it’s important to note that the $35,000 Standard Tesla Model 3 will remain unaffected. The company says this price increase will only apply to the more expensive variants of its vehicles. This includes the Model S and Model X as well."   A Tesla statement said: "Potential Tesla owners will have a week to place their order before prices rise, so current prices are valid until March 18th. There will be no price increase to the $35,000 Model 3. The price increases will only apply to the more expensive variants of Model 3, as well as Model S and X. To be clear, all sales worldwide will still be done online, in that potential Tesla owners coming in to stores will simply be shown how to order a Tesla on their phone in a few minutes. And the generous return policy of 1000 miles or 7 days, whichever comes first, should alleviate the need for most test drives. However, cars will still be available for test drives at stores at the potential Tesla owner’s request. Stores will also carry a small number of cars in inventory for customers who wish to drive away with a Tesla immediately."   https://insideevs.com/tesla-changes-strategy-raise-prices-reduce-closures/   BAN CARS NEAR SCHOOLS, SAY HEALTH CHIEFS "Cars should be banned from around schools, according to a leading government health chief, and congestion charge zone should be considered in more towns and cities in bids to improve air quality. " writes Hugo Griffiths for AutoExpress: "Previous suggested methods for tackling air pollution include the removal of speedbumps, which would reduce emission-generating acceleration and deceleration, and fines for allowing engines to idle around schools. Councils across the country should also consider implementing congestion charge zones, similar to London’s, in order to bring down levels of pollution. 44 UK towns and cities have previously been found in breach of World Health Organisation limits for PM 2.5 particles – microscopic pieces of soot generated by exhaust fumes and linked to health conditions."   https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/consumer-news/106271/ban-cars-near-schools-say-health-chiefs   SONO MOTORS UNVEILS PRODUCTION VERSION OF SION SOLAR ELECTRIC CAR Sono Motors has unveiled the first images of the Sion’s series design as part of a broad online release. The focus was placed on the full-surface incorporation of solar modules into the bodywork – one of the vehicle’s unique features that have influenced its design. Thanks to technology developed by Sono Motors, the solar cells meld seamlessly into the vehicle’s surface and can generate up to 34 kilometers of additional range a day at peak performance. This is well above the average distance of 17 kilometers commuters in Germany travel to their workplace. Mathieu Baudrit from Sono said: "After unveiling our first prototype in summer 2017, we continued to develop our solar integration technology, which we have been working on since 2016. The production vehicle will feature full-surface integrated solar cells that are embedded in hard-wearing, resilient polymer and that contribute to the vehicle’s design aesthetic thanks to optimized color matching.”   LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR SUCCESSOR TO USE SUPERCAPACITORS INSTEAD OF BATTERIES? "Lamborghini CTO Maurizio Reggiani spoke to Road & Track to offer glimpses and set a few things straight. Discussing the coming LB48H supercar, Reggiani said the use of supercapacitors in that limited-run supercar will be a "first jump" into a robust hybrid application for supercapacitors, and that Lamborghini "will prove that in a super sports car, it's possible to have this technology." Writes Jonathon Ramsey for Autoblog: "Based on Reggiani's comment, and likely the fact that Lamborghini uses a special supercar to hint at what's coming in tech and design, RT takes Reggiani's comments to mean that the Aventador successor will "store its electric power electrostatically instead of electrochemically, as you would with a lithium-ion battery."   https://www.autoblog.com/2019/03/11/lamborghini-aventador-successor-supercapacitors/   MASERATI ALFIERI ELECTRIC REVEAL SET FOR 2020 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW "Introduced as a concept in 2014, confirmed for production in 2018, due to be revealed in final form in 2020, and set to go on sale in 2021 or 2022 – that’s the story of the Alfieri." According to Adrian Padeanu for InsideEVs: "Maserati fans have been waiting for parent company FCA to rejuvenate the fabled Italian brand for a long time, and it looks like it’s finally happening. Company boss Harald Wester told Autocar during the Geneva Motor Show this week the GranTurismo replacement will be revealed at next year’s edition of the event held in Switzerland. Customers will get to pick from three electrified powertrains, include a pure electric variant with a triple motor setup, all-wheel drive, and 800V battery tech.
