It was a furious charge at the end of the race from Sebastien Buemi that led the #8 Toyota Gazoo Racing team of himself, Brendon Hartley, and Ryo Hirakawa to not only take a dramatic victory at WEC's Championship finale at the 8 Hours of Bahrain but also winning the Manufacturer's Championship in the process, preventing a clean sweep of the titles for Porsche. Kevin Turner and Gary Watkins sit down for the last time this season and discuss the thrilling finale that decided the race. The duo also talks about the crowning of the Drivers Champions in Porsche's #6 crew of Andre Lotterer, Kevin Estre, and Laurens Vanthoor and the shock demotion of Ferrari off the podium for a bizarre rule breach on tyres used over the weekend, promoting Peugeot onto the podium as a result. There's also the latest news on the reports that Lamborghini could be scaling back their Sportscar commitments in 2025 with rumours of an IMSA switch imminent, as well as a full review of LMGT3 as the #55 AF Corse Ferrari team took victory. Formula E celebrates its 10th Anniversary later this year and with it, it's time to take a look back and rank the series 10 best drivers since its inception in China back in 2014. In the short decade of the series history, we've had 86 drivers take to the series, including former F1 World Champions and Indy 500 winners, but who is Formula E's greatest driver so far? Deputy National Editor and Formula E Reporter Stefan Mackley is joined on the Podcast by series broadcaster Saunders Carmichael-Brown to go back and forth on their own Top 10 lists and argue their case. Many of the series World Champions make the list such as 2024 series Champion Pascal Wehrlein, Sebastien Buemi, and Jean-Eric Vergne. But do any of the other veterans like Mitch Evans, Sam Bird or Felix Rosenqvist make it? Listen in and find out! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
This past weekend the World Endurance Championship headed to Austin, Texas for Lone Star Le Mans at the Circuit of the Americas. And across an epic 6 Hours, the AF Corse #83 Ferrari of Yifei Yi, Robert Kubica and Robert Shwartzman held off the #7 Toyota Gazoo Racing team of Kamui Kobayashi, Nick De Vries and Mike Conway to win by just 1.7 seconds, marking Ferrari's first win in WEC outside of Le Mans since returning to full-time competition, and the sixth different winner in WEC in 2024. Kevin Turner sits down on this edition of the Autosport Podcast with Gary Watkins to break down how it was the Yellow Ferrari that came out on top, the controversial crash caused by Sebastien Buemi that led to penalty points on his license, and the state of the midfield in WEC with Fuji less than a fortnight away. There's also a full review of the LMGT3 class as the Heart of Racing Aston Martin team continued their excellent track record on home soil. Learn more about your ad choices. The Formula E driver market is ablaze, so we thought we'd get Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt to pour some sustainable fuel upon it for this special episode. The futures of two former champions, Antonio Felix da Costa and Stoffel Vandoorne, are at the forefront of 'silly season' rumours with the former set to essentially dictate the market after a tumultuous second year with the German manufacturer. Vandoorne's recent talks with Envision are analysed, as is the possibility of Jake Hughes breaking free of NEOM McLaren and heading elsewhere. Also, the possible end of Sebastien Buemi decade long Formula E career is discussed as the Swiss looks increasingly likely to be replaced by Vandoorne. In addition to the merry-go-round, the new for 2024-25 calendar is also looked in to with Smith and van de Burgt pontificating over planned new races at Homestead and Chiang Mai, while a future for Formula E at Silverstone is also debated. This week, we have Formula 1 in Brazil, WEC in Bahrain, plus a nail biting end to the NASCAR season! In Formula 1, the future of the Sprint race is in question, with many people questioning it's existence going forwards. Verstappen managed to pip the British driver to the win in the end. Elsewhere, Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was battling Red Bull's Sergio Perez right up to the end of the race, with Alonso clinching that third place on the grid. With three races to go, we head to Las Vegas next weekend! World Endurance Championships showed real quality in Bahrain, with an 8 hour race. With 12 LMP1 cars, Toyota claimed a dominant Win for the Championship finale, with drivers Brendon Hartley, Sebastien Buemi and Ryo Hirakawa. From one season finale to another. We had the Grand Finale of the NASCAR season. With Kyle Larson closing in for the win, he was pipped to becoming champion by rival driver, Ryan Blaney in his Penske Ford. Next weekend, we have MotoGP in Malaysia!
In his first interview since becoming a Jaguar TCS Racing driver, Nick Cassidy joins hosts Andrew van de Burgt and Sam Smith to look ahead to his new career chapter as he joins old friend Mitch Evans at ‘The Big Cat'. The challenge of racing for a major manufacturer is touched on, as is the prospect of racing with fellow Kiwi, Mitch Evans in the modern equivalent of the Bruce and Denny show! Cassidy also has a rueful and engaging look back on a dramatic 2023 season, especially the London EPrix in which he looked to be nailed on to take the title battle against Jake Dennis to the final day before a complex failed team orchestration with Sebastien Buemi played out. A look ahead to the upcoming Valencia test is also discussed, as well as all the latest news including anticipating the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship calendar which is expected to have several twists when the final draft of it is issued this week. It wouldn't be Formula E without a final chapter full of carnage right? Mitch Evans gave it everything he had in the first half of the weekend, but Jake Dennis would survive two Red Flags and a huge team orders scandal to take the Formula E World Championship! The struggles are over! But Envision seemingly had a hand in their own demise by refusing to play team orders with Nick Cassidy destroying his car as Sebastien Buemi swiped across him! Who was in the wrong? We also talk about the tame Race 2 as the rain led to a 90-minute delay, and then a race that had next to no action in it at all as Nick Cassidy would dominate to take 2nd in the Championship and the Teams Title for Envision Racing, one of the originals getting their big moment! We talk about all of that as well as Porsche's place in the title race, some of the silly season moves like Cassidy joining Jaguar, the rumours of Sam Bird at McLaren, as well as a shock return for Oli Rowland? All on another M101!
It was a good weekend to have a Jaguar powertrain as Envision and Jaguar both split wins as Formula E returned to Tempelhof Airport in Berlin! Mitch Evans led a Jaguar 1-2 finish (Their first ever) in Race 1, with Nick Cassidy taking Race 2 by the scruff of the neck in Race 2, in two fantastic races, with record-breaking numbers. 362 overtakes across the weekend, with 9 different leaders and 22 lead changes across that first Race! And that doesn't include ABT Cupra somehow locking out the front row in Race 2 in a soaking wet qualifying session, or Nick Cassidy getting into a bizarre beef with his own teammate, Sebastien Buemi. AND we had an environmental protest too! And Dre kinda flips out at the lack of emapthy in the whole ordeal! All that and more on a loaded Formula E edition of Motorsport101
A memorable first ever Sao Paulo EPrix is picked apart by Jack Nicholls and Sam Smith as they are also joined by third placed finisher Sam Bird. The Jaguar TCS Racing driver talks about his much need result, the fightback from his Hyderabad ignominy and how Formula E is currently proving to be a much more entertaining package than F1. Mitch Evans' first win of the season is analysed, as is the fascinating peloton pack racing style that was seen in Brazil. But is it popular among drivers and viewers? We hear from Antonio Felix da Costa on his race, while Sebastien Buemi details the painful shunt with Max Guenther's Maserati which resulted in the Envision driver receiving hand injuries. We also find out why Jake Dennis described fellow Brit Dan Ticktum as a ‘plonker' and what caused both hometown favourites Lucas di Grassi and Sergio Sette Camara's disastrous races. The first ever Cape Town EPrix was packed with incident, controversy and a move by Antonio Felix da Costa that will go down in championship legend. But how did he pull it off? He tells the Formula E podcast as Jack Nicholls, Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt ponder its magnificence in addition to several intricate storylines from a memorable weekend in South Africa. Nick Cassidy's contretemps with his former Super Formula sparring partner Sacha Fenestraz, the red flag debacle in qualifying that ended Sam Bird's EPrix before it had even begun and a bizarre weekend for Cassidy's teammate Sebastien Buemi are all covered off. Our specialist Formula E trio also asked if Cape Town will become a staple of the calendar or if it will go the way of Montreal and Seoul as a spectacular one off. In addition to da Costa we also hear from Buemi and also Maserati MSG's team boss James Rossiter who will have to try and pick up his team after a disastrous start to its maiden Formula E campaign. A hectic and entertaining first ever Hyderabad EPrix is digested and analysed by host Jack Nicholls, Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt. Jean-Eric Vergne tore up the recent formbook by giving the new DS Penske alliance its maiden ever victory. But how did he do it? The catastrophic intra-Jaguar debacle is picked apart, as is the complicated penalty that denied Sebastien Buemi a podium and elevated Antonio Felix da Costa to his first podium appearance for Porsche. His teammate and championship points leader Pascal Wehrlein went from a hospital bed to fourth place all within 24 Hours and he talks to The Race about his rollercoaster of a few days in India. Also appearing are Jaguar and Envision team bosses James Barclay and Sylvain Filippi as they react to how their events faired. Our trio of experts also give opinions on the often farcical track limits debate, the incident that scuppered Jake Dennis and the entertaining menagerie of feral animals that circulated the track. In the 87th edition of the FEZ Show, Jack Giordmaina, Jack Pickering and special guest Joshua Burch reflect on the double header in Saudi Arabia, in which Pascal Wehrlein beat Jake Dennis to victory two days in a row to snatch the championship lead, Sam Bird and Rene Rast were back on podium, and Sebastien Buemi took his first pole position in three seasons, before Jake Hughes took his first ever FE pole. Meanwhile DS Penske, Maserati and Mahindra struggled. The trio also previews what to expect from the inaugural Hyderabad E-Prix in India this Saturday.
Need we say more than Pascal Wehrlein and Jake Dennis? Well yes, we needed to talk about Sam Bird, Rene Rast, Jake Hughes and Sebastien Buemi. And other Formula E things too actually. Porsche's total dominance of the Diriyah EPrixs is analysed in the latest Formula E podcast from The Race with host Jack Nicholls, reporter Sam Smith and guest pundit Andrew van de Burgt. The secrets of Porsche's pace are revealed as the now clear title favourites flexed their collective muscles in a supreme display amid the sand dunes of Riyadh. NEOM McLaren's milestones of a first pole and podium are mulled over, as are the return to form of Formula E veteran's Sebastien Buemi and Sam Bird. Our host trio also discuss a tremendous cameo performance from Dan Ticktum, as well as the continuing disappointing of the DS Penske squad and an erratic showing from their Stellantis stablemates at Maserati MSG. Ticktum, Rene Rast and Sebastien Modlinger make talking head appearances to mull over their weekend's in Saudi Arabia. All this and a lively discussion on why it matters or not that the Gen3 car is proving to be slower than its predecessor the Gen2 machine. London called, and Formula E answered in what is being considered as being one of the best events the all-electric world championship has put on in recent years. Guest host Jack Nicholls is joined by Sam Smith and Avalanche Andretti's Roger Griffiths, who with driver Jake Dennis was the toast of the UK's capital last weekend after a dominant victory and a close second to Sunday victor Lucas di Grassi at the ExCeL centre circuit. In a packed show the trio discuss the diminishing title fight after Stoffel Vandoorne again capitalised on reliability misfortune for Mitch Evans and incident packed races for both Edoardo Mortara and Jean-Eric Vergne. There were plenty of afters too as Mercedes EQ got embroiled in an aborted choreography plan, while Sebastien Buemi and Pascal Wehrlein almost came to blows in the pit-lane and had to be separated by Griffiths' commercial director and occasional columnist of The Race, Jim Wright! In addition to the London action there is also a look ahead to Seoul and Griffiths reflections on Andretti's BMW journey which has roots stretching all the way back to the start of Formula E. Also debated is the new sporting structure and format for Gen 3 racing where the popular Attack Mode philosophy is discussed at length on whether it will be viable to be used in conjunction with the anticipated return of pit stops and rapid charging technology. Additionally, Smith gives insight in to Sebastien Buemi's move from Nissan to Envision, and the future of Techeetah is also mulled over.

Formula E returned to the streets of Rome in emphatic fashion with two rather crazy races. Mercedes had the best "worst" weekend ever, with a win for Stoffel Vandoorne... and that was the only car that finished for the whole weekend. Nissan E-Dams were in the wars, as were Sam Bird. Norman Nato was denied a maiden podium, Sebastien Buemi and Lucas Di Grassi reignited an old grudge match, and Andre Lotterer lost in the worst's most electrified game of "chicken". Oh, and Jaguar leads a World Championship for the first time since Dre was born. Seriously. We break it all down in Episode 297!
An incredible story from the man who almost had F1 at his feet! Today we're delighted to be joined by former Formula One driver turned DJ Jaime Alguersuari. The Spanish born star navigated through Italian Formula 1600 before winning the Italian Formula Renault Winter Series. He moved to British F3 alongside Brendon Hartley and other big names on his way to winning the title at 18 years old. It was while he was halfway through a Formula Renault 3.5 season that he was drafted into F1 mid-season with Toro Rosso, where he stayed for the rest of 2009, 2010 and 2011 before leaving the team at the same time as a former podcast guest Sebastien Buemi. Like Sebastien, Jaime then made his way to Formula E before putting his efforts into music and becoming a chart topping DJ! Satisfaction is still sinking in for the New Zealand driver Brendon Hartley after he took out one of the world's biggest motor races for a second time this morning. Driving for Toyota, Hartley has teamed up with Japan's Kazuki Nakajima and Swiss driver Sebastien Buemi to win the Le Mans 24 Hour title in France. The 30-year-old from Palmerston North also won the race in 2017 alongside fellow Kiwi Earl Bamber. Now in its 88th edition, the Le Mans event was this year held for the first time without spectators due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Hartley, who drove in Formula One in 2017 and 2018, says while it feels great, it's not quite the same without the fans.

In a dramatic double-header to end the campaign, Sebastien Buemi and Robin Frijns shared the race wins, but no one could prevent Vergne from claiming a historic second title. CLARIN SANCIONES A MADURO. NEW BALANCE.
In this incredibly unpredictable Formula E season Lucas di Grassi followed in Jean-Eric Vergne's footsteps by becoming just the second driver this campaign to win twice. Claire Cottingham, Jonathan Legard and Tom Gaymor analyse the action from the BMW i Berlin E-Prix presented by CBMM Niobium, where they hear from Di Grassi as well as fellow podium finishers, Vergne and Sebastien Buemi. On race days, listen to live commentary on Formula E Radio via fiaformulae.com as well as the TuneIn website and app.

Read today’s show notes on www.evnewsdaily.com Well good morning, good afternoon and good evening, wherever you are in the world, hello and welcome to the Monday 16th July edition of EV News Daily. It’s Martyn Lee here with the news you need to know about electric cars and the move towards sustainable transport. DELIVERY TIMES ARE DROPPING FOR NEW TESLA MODEL 3 ORDERS The delivery times for the Tesla Model 3 keep coming down. One of your fellow listeners emailed me last week to say between Design Studio and email saying it was complete, was 10 days. But that seems unlikely for most. "Delivery times for a new Tesla Model 3 order have been dropped to as little as a month in the US, down from the 3-5 month delivery window that was previously in place" report TechCrunch: "Both the long-range rear-wheel model (until recently the only one in production) and the performance dual-motor model are now showing delivery times of 1-3 months. That leaves the long-range dual-motor model configuration, yours in approximately 2-4 months once you've put your cash down. This is just a few days after orders were opened up to everyone in the US, reservation or not." https://www.techradar.com/news/delivery-times-are-dropping-for-new-tesla-model-3-orders ELECTRIC POWER DOMINATES AT GOODWOOD Chinese car maker NIO, which builds the EP9 with 1,342hp getting 0-60mph out the way in 2.7 seconds. "Nio EP9's electric hypercar has set the fastest time for a street-legal car in the Goodwood Festival of Speed's famous hill climb" says MotorAuthority: "The car ran a time of 44.61 seconds during Saturday's Supercar shootout event, which eclipsed the previous time of 47.07 set by a McLaren P1. The EP9, like the P1 LM, isn't a regular production car, as just 16 examples are planned. Also, the car's street-legal tires were swapped out for racing slicks for this weekend's hill climb. Still, the EP9's run was incredible and a true sign that electric cars have the potential to rewrite the rule book on performance." Meanwhile the VW I.D. R Pikes Peak Racer is still setting records. "Having smashed the all-time record at Pikes Peak last month, the I.D. R was expected to be among the quickest runners at the 2018 Festival of Speed - and it hasn't let the side down. On Saturday, with Roman Dumas again driving, it whined its way to a 43.05 secs time over the famed 1.1-mile course, shattering the previous record for electric cars." reports Nic Cackett for pistonheads.com: "On Sunday the I.D. R and Dumas repeated the feat in the final shootout, managing a 43.86 secs run to make it the first electric car to win the event outright. In a sign of the times, it was an electric car in second place, too - the remarkable NIO EP9" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qs1SMr2A5q4 NEW YORK EPRIX: VERGNE WINS FINALE, AUDI TEAMS’ CHAMPIONS "Newly-crowned Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne won a thrilling season-ending New York ePrix on Sunday, but his victory wasn’t enough to seal the teams’ title for his Techeetah squad." writes Alex Kalinauckas for Motorsport.com: "The race took place in hot and sunny conditions – in stark contrast to the wet weather from earlier in the day, which at one point caused organisers to temporarily suspend the event due to the threat of lightening in the area – although that weather threat disappeared and the race took place as scheduled. Vergne led the 43-lap race from the first corner after muscling his way from third on the grid past polesitter Sebastien Buemi on the run to Turn 1." https://www.motorsport.com/formula-e/news/new-york-eprix-vergne-wins-finale-audi-teams-champion-1060418/?r=191987&em=1 MORE MODEL 3 VINS "#Tesla registered 3,424 new #Model3 VINs. ~100% estimated to be dual motor. Highest VIN is 75464" Tim Anderson: "The production burst they’ve had at the end of every quarter has been the average production of the following quarter for a while now. My guess is 60k M3’s and at least 20k S & X for a minimum total of 80k cars produced (& likely delivered)." Dirk Podolak: "Tesla registered 48k VINs in the first half of 2018. Now they registered 19k VINs in the first half of July alone. Guys, that will be an awesome Q3." JUNE 2018 ELECTRIFIED VEHICLE SALES IN THE US Electric Car Report updated their June sales tracker at 10:15am yesterday morning, on Sunday: "All major automakers reported June sales numbers for electrified vehicles. Numbers are considerably higher than the totals in June 2017. For the month, more than 25,200 electrified vehicles were sold". Checking on the InsideEVs Scorecard, 2018 June was 25,179 compared to 17,046 June 2017. COMMUNITY Brian Weatherall. This might be the least Motorsport Motorsport101 ever covers! Go us! In this edition, we talk at length about WrestleMania! As well as the infamous drama Dre got into on social media this past week! There's also talk on Formula E's Mexico City Round as Lucas Di Grassi survived the chaos as Championship leader Sebastien Buemi bottled it, as well as Jerome's desperate defending and all the other carnage! We also cover all the news (Including a lengthy rant from King on Hall of Fames as the FIA is considering one), Pascal Wehrlein being replaced again, and the mailbag is back to answer your questions! Enjoy!
It's been another funky old week in Motorsport this time around, as another episode of #Motorsport101 rolls on! And in this episode: - We talk Formula E in Mexico City, and why it might be a black mark for the series going forward, as Sebastien Buemi and Jerome D'Ambrosio wrecked the damn place, and Lucas Di Grassi's Abt Team gets caught cheating. Again. - We review IndyCar's Season Opener in St. Petersburg as Juan Pablo Montoya reminds everyone that Team Penske is the Death Star, and we pour one out over Conor Daly's luck. Again. - We talk about the possibility of a power struggle in F1 and ask whether the drivers should have a say in how the sport is run, and ask whether the sport is "broken" as Lewis Hamilton so eloquently put it. - And we get to the inevitable F1 2016 Season Preview. Nothing more needs to be said. Hope you enjoy the new episode, and back us on Patreon if you liked it!
