UK's SMEs say ‘apprentices are the solution to UK's skills gap crisis'

Over 80% of the UK's SMEs believe apprenticeships are at least partly the solution to the UK's skills gap crisis, with a further 69% of the view apprenticeships are a ‘valuable alternative to university' Four in 10 (44%) feel not enough is being done to encourage young people to consider apprenticeships. The findings are taken from the latest independent research commissioned by Close Brothers Asset Finance and are in support of National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), which highlights the positive impact that apprenticeships make on individuals, businesses and the wider economy. According to a survey by the Learning and Work Institute, around 70% of employers reported a skills shortage in their workforce. The Close Brothers Asset Finance research confirms that 50% of business owners are concerned there's a skills gap in their sector while a further 16% say the issue is regionally based. Over a third (37%) of responding firms report having an apprenticeship scheme of their own, with many (65%) stating that if financial assistance were available from either the government or the private sector to help contribute towards wages and/or training, they would put someone from their company forward to participate in an apprenticeship scheme. The National Apprenticeship Service states that 96% of employers with apprentices have experienced at least one benefit from taking on apprentices, and most can count at least eight benefits. In addition, 74% of employers say that apprentices improved products or service quality, and 78% say that they improved productivity while 73% say that staff morale is improved by having apprentices. Steve Gee, CEO of Close Brothers' Asset Finance's Industrial Equipment Division, said: “As a funder of a number of sectors that rely on apprentices, we've long seen the need and value of apprenticeship schemes, which encourage new talent into industries that really need them.”  “As part of our commitment to the SME community, we've been funding an apprenticeship scheme since 2015, in partnership with the University of Sheffield's Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC). Under the scheme, we contribute towards the wages of the apprentices in both the first and second year, with all training costs also covered. “The reality is, it's not cheap for an SME to invest in apprentices – and its important small business owners see it as an investment and not a cost. Handled correctly, apprenticeships can help an SME flourish and, at the same time, develop the individual apprentice.” “I believe we all have a duty to look at where, as ‘UK PLC', we need to concentrate our efforts and money. I would strongly encourage firms to support apprentices – we know first-hand what a hugely positive impact they can have.” Nikki Jones, Director of the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre said: “At the AMRC Training Centre, we're transforming lives through apprenticeships. We combine classroom learning and shop floor industrial experience to equip new, young talent with all the skills they need to become the advanced engineers of tomorrow.

James van den Bergh, Chief Executive Officer of Trufin #TRU explains the significance of Satago's commercial agreement with Lloyds Bank and talks about progress within other parts of the business. Highlights TruFin is pleased to announce that following the conclusion of the commercial pilot first announced on 11 December 2020, and a competitive tender process, Lloyds Bank has confirmed its intention to enter into a commercial agreement to license Satago's software platform for its Single Invoice Finance and whole of book Invoice Factoring customers. Satago and Lloyds Bank have signed a letter of intent and are working towards finalising a commercial agreement in the coming months.  Satago's platform will introduce a new digitised proposition designed to help the Bank further support UK businesses. Satago expects to be paid a recurring fee for each customer of the Bank which utilises Satago's platform, as well as one-off implementation fees, with the final terms of this landmark agreement subject to commercial negotiation. TruFin is also pleased to announce that, ahead of signing the commercial agreement, Lloyds Banking Group has today completed an investment of £5 million of new equity capital in Satago, at a pre-money valuation of £20 million. All parties believe that the commercial agreement will be transformational for Satago and has the potential to deliver significant equity value uplift for Satago. TruFin has agreed to vary the terms of an existing £3 million loan to Satago so that it is convertible into equity capital in Satago at the same valuation as the LBG investment or, if a further funding round takes place, the valuation implied by the funding round. Assuming conversion based on the £20 million valuation (and assuming LBG does not subscribe for its pro rata entitlement to shares), TruFin would hold approximately 68% of Satago (on a fully diluted basis). In addition, the Company is delighted to announce Ben Stephenson will be appointed to the Board of Satago. Ben is Managing Director and Head of Specialist Client Solutions at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking and is responsible for the teams who provide SMEs with Invoice Finance, Trade, Payments, Asset Finance and Merchant Services solutions.  He sits on the Executive Committee of the LBG's SME and Mid Corporates Business and is a member of the UK Finance IF&ABL Product Board. As Satago rolls out its best-in-class platform to a growing pipeline of leading finance providers, the Board believes there are multiple value accretive developments to follow.

Do you fill the gap that Banks leave? http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Chris-Martin-Do-you-fill-the-banks-gap.mp4 Are Small Enterprises Always a Good Risk? Nope. Chris told us his first priority is to protect his lenders' money. Secondly, he gets the required funding into the businesses that need it. At the moment, as a result of the artificially high levels of Government money. There is a high level of fraud out there. So, Origin Finance spend time weeding out the potential fraudsters. Moreover, Chris thinks the increased level of fraudulent activity has meant Banks are even more likely to reject loan applications. What's surprising, is Banks don't have the systems to weed out these fraudsters, so they say no to just about everybody. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Chris-Martin-Approach-to-lending-different.mp4 What Sort of Things Could I ask For Financing For?
