Cooper Schwartz: Monetizing Content: How Top Publishers and Brands Maximize Reach and Revenue Impact“The brands that win aren't just the ones with the biggest budgets—they're the ones that strategically align performance and brand marketing to maximize reach and revenue.” That's a quote from Cooper Schwartz and a sneak peek at today's episode.Hey there, I'm Kerry Curran, Revenue Growth Consultant, Industry Analyst, and host of Revenue Boost: A Marketing Podcast.Every episode, I sit down with top experts to bring you actionable strategies that drive real revenue results. If you're serious about growth, hit subscribe to stay ahead of your competition. In this episode, titled Monetizing Content: How Top Publishers and Brands Maximize Reach and Revenue Impact, Cooper Schwartz, Head of New Business and Growth at Money Group, shares his expertise. In a crowded digital landscape, content alone isn't enough. Brands need a strategy that turns visibility into real revenue. Cooper and I discuss strategies for leveraging publisher partnerships to create high-impact, holistic, cross-channel digital programs that drive both reach and ROI.We dive into the winning formula for balancing performance marketing and brand strategy—and how to dominate non-branded paid search while outmaneuvering your competition.Stay tuned until the end, where Cooper shares actionable strategies to optimize content for revenue growth. Let's go!Kerry Curran, RBMA (00:01.107)Welcome, Cooper! Please introduce yourself and share a bit about your background and expertise.Cooper Schwartz (00:07.534)Hi, Kerry. Thanks for having me. My name is Cooper Schwartz, and I am the Head of New Business and Growth at Money Group, a portfolio company that has been around for about 11 years. We own notable brands like Money.com and ConsumersAdvocate.org, as well as proprietary technology like NavChain. I'm also one of the founding partners and have been with the company for 11 years.I was actually the first employee. I originally came from a therapy background—my mother is a therapist, and I thought I would follow in her footsteps. However, two of my close friends—one with 10 years at Google and the other at SEO Moz—convinced me to jump into affiliate marketing and help build this company. So here I am today, still finding opportunities in the market and excited to talk with you.Kerry Curran, RBMA (01:02.843)Awesome, thanks, Cooper! I had no idea about your therapy background. We could totally pivot and have a different conversation! I always say marketing is a lot like psychology—it plays a strong role in what we do, so I'm sure that background strengthens your expertise.Anyway, I'm excited to have you here because I know you have a ton of valuable platforms.Cooper Schwartz (01:09.484)Yeah, yeah.Kerry Curran, RBMA (01:29.617)You have a range of brands and technology under Money.com, so I'd love to hear more about how you're helping brands navigate their business challenges. When brands or agencies reach out to build a partnership with you, what are they typically looking for?Cooper Schwartz (01:51.672)You're right—Money.com is a strong domain. Before it became Money.com, it was Money Magazine, a 50-year-old brand that people have nostalgia for. It was all about planning for the future and sharing insights on managing finances.Today, brands still want to be aligned with the Money brand. But we don't just offer content alignment—we provide a variety of campaigns and marketing opportunities. Many brands approach us saying, “We love the brand, we love the content—how can we work together?” That's a great starting point for the many solutions we offer. From non-branded paid search to placements across our ad network of about 150 publishers, we help brands engage with their audience in unique ways. Some of these publishers might be seen as competitors, but in reality, they're “frenemies.” We help brands leverage content, align with our brand, activate paid search strategies, and secure placements on other high-authority sites, all while simplifying the management process.Kerry Curran, RBMA (03:37.691)That's great. It sounds like brands really value the partnership and brand equity you offer. Can you walk us through how you start these relationships and build custom strategies to increase their awareness and authority?Cooper Schwartz (04:03.192)Sure! There's always an initial “interview” process—almost like dating. Not to take it back to therapy, but it's about getting to know the brand:What are their needs?Who is their target audience? What are their expectations? What are their key performance goals? We get a lot of inbound interest because money impacts nearly every industry. But we have to ensure alignment goes both ways—not just that they align with our audience, but also that we can effectively reach their audience. At our scale, we also consider resources. Can we accommodate the brand in a way that sets them up for success? We prioritize enterprise-level partnerships that move the needle for both companies. That often means ensuring the investment in a given category can be six or seven figures annually—we need to create impact on both sides.Once we've established alignment—brand fit, budget, resources—we dive into which marketing channels make sense:Are they already running paid search? If not, why?How can we help them expand their shelf space on Google? Is brand awareness the priority? If so, we can integrate them into our franchise content like Best Places to Live, Best Hospitals, Best Colleges, which reach wide audiences. Are they struggling to get placements in high-authority content? If so, we can help them secure placements on Forbes, NerdWallet, CBS News, CNN, and others.Kerry Curran, RBMA (06:53.058)That's great! I love that you have such a wide portfolio of solutions that are fully customized to each brand's goals. So, let's say an enterprise brand comes to you for a rebrand, product expansion, or new launch. You work with them to align with the right publishers and strategies. Can you share a specific example of a successful partnership?Cooper Schwartz (07:39.918)Sure! One that I'm especially proud of is our partnership with ADT.We've worked with ADT for about eight or nine years, originally in non-branded paid search—helping them reach high-intent consumers who were still undecided. Over time, our relationship evolved into exploring additional channels.Last year, we launched a sponsorship activation for Money's Best Places to Live, working closely with ADT's PR, media acquisition, and marketing teams. The goal was to integrate ADT's branding into content about protecting the best places to live. This was a multichannel activation that included:Social media campaignsVideo contentTargeted PR effortsWeekly performance check-insThe result? A high-impact security hub on Money.com featuring ADT across 100+ articles. It was a strategic, elegant execution. Not only did we secure ADT placements on our own sites, but we also helped them get featured on CBS News, The New York Post, and other major publishers. This is the kind of holistic strategy that allows brands to gain visibility across multiple trusted sources.Kerry Curran, RBMA (10:34.345)That's an excellent example! It really demonstrates how brands can layer multiple channels—from paid search to PR to content—to create a unified, impactful strategy.Let's shift gears to AI and Google's generative search results. How do your strategies help brands compete with AI-driven summaries at the top of search results?Cooper Schwartz (20:43.342)Great question! One core belief we've held is that editorial integrity matters. We prioritize keeping a human voice in our content while leveraging AI in strategic ways. Here's our approach:Investing in real writers & editors – AI can assist, but human oversight ensures depth and quality.Creating content clusters – Instead of one-off articles, we develop deep, interconnected content that builds expertise and authority.Partnering with already-successful publishers – Instead of relying solely on our content, we collaborate with trusted media brands that are already ranking well. The reality is, the pie is big enough. Rather than fighting for every ranking, we focus on working with the best—helping publishers monetize better while delivering results for our partners.Kerry Curran, RBMA (25:25.383)That's a smart approach. So, for brands listening today—what's the first step if they want to explore this strategy?Cooper Schwartz (25:40.910)Start by researching who dominates your industry's review space. Look at organic rankings, paid search, and media partnerships. If you see competitors investing in multiple touchpoints, that's a sign they're onto something. Then, reach out! You can contact me at cooper@money.com or find me on LinkedIn.Kerry Curran, RBMA (26:07.537)Awesome! We'll include those links in the show notes. Cooper, thank you so much for your time and insights today!Cooper Schwartz (26:20.098)Thank you, Kerry!Kerry Curran, RBMA Thank you for tuning in to today's episode.

This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette Digital News Desk, and I'm here with your update for Tuesday, August 1.According to the National Weather Service it will be mostly sunny in the Cedar Rapids area with a high near 89 degrees. There will be a 30 percent chance of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday. The low will settle in around 69 degrees. The National Weather Service has confirmed that tornadoes passed through the area on Friday night.According to data posted Monday, an EF-1 tornado with peak winds estimated at 90 mph struck Andrew in Jackson County at 8:41 p.m. Friday. At EF-1, tornadoes are rated “moderate” on a scale that goes from EF-0, with wind gusts of 65-85 mph, up to EF-5, with gusts of 200 mph or more. A second tornado was confirmed to strike Clinton at 9:16 p.m. Friday. The storm, with peak gusts estimated at 75 mph, was rated EF-0. It was on the ground for two minutes, leaving a path of almost 1.5 miles before crossing the Mississippi River and dissipating over Illinois, the National Weather Service said.Damage was also caused by intense straight line winds that preceded the storm's arrival..Roosevelt Middle School could remain as a sixth-grade center and a new seventh-and-eighth grade school would be built to replace Taft Middle School under proposed changes to a combined multimillion dollar facility plan in the Cedar Rapids Community School District.New changes proposed Monday night, however, address concerns Cedar Rapids City Council members expressed last week in a joint meeting. City leaders said the original proposal would close too many middle schools on the west side of the city. The change would increase a combined $445 million in school bond referendums an additional $56 million — a number Cedar Rapids school board members said they are unsure about bringing to taxpayers. The decision, however, may not need to be made for another six years since Roosevelt and Taft are not a part of the facilities addressed in the first half of the bond referendum — $220 million — that could go to voters as soon as this November. University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics has been ranked in the top 50 nationally in two medical care specialties for the second year in a row in the U.S. News and World Report's “Best Hospitals” list made public Tuesday.UIHC's ophthalmology ranking improved to No. 6 from No. 7, and its ear, nose and throat ranking moved up to No. 28 from No. 31.However, UIHC's ranking is lower than it was a decade ago, when it was ranked in the top 50 in nine specialties.Outside of the top 50, UIHC lost some ground this year. It achieved "high performing" recognition for six of its specialties last year, but this year it only received high performance in five specialties.Although none of Iowa's other ranked hospitals placed in the top 50 in any specialties, MercyOne in Des Moines received high-performance marks for 14 of 21 considered procedures and conditions.

Since taking on the CDI director role at Brigham at Women's Hospital in October 2017, Deb Jones has made big changes with big impact. These include: A deep focus on risk adjustment and mortality reviews. Boston is an incredibly competitive healthcare environment with 25 hospitals operating within the city. Patients have a choice of where to shop for care, which makes rankings in the likes of U.S. News and World Report absolutely critical for survival. In a 2022, Brigham made the honor roll by grabbing the no. 14 spot in the country on that list. Doubling the number of her staff, to 20 CDI professionals between Brigham and Women's and affiliated Faulkner Hospital. And then retaining them… forever. Jones has yet to lose a single staff member (two that did leave have since returned). Getting after it in general, with provider education, new CDI software, and an engaged team that issues 2,000 queries a month. Deb is a success (in my opinion) because of her positive, engaged, and friendly managerial style, coupled with her close connections to the c-suite, including the CFO, and her ability to tell the right story with the right metrics. If you're a leader in this space, or an aspiring HIM or CDI professional looking to learn from someone with a track record of success, she's worth listening to. We get into all of this—risk adjustment, metrics and reporting strategies, staff retention, leadership, and relationship building—on the latest episode of Off the Record. We also use the word “synergy” a bit too much for either of our liking. But, we recover with some good talk about the Boston restaurant scene, the importance of happy hours (yes, I invited myself on air—awkward), and music too, including her son's music career after graduating from the Berklee College of Music.

The Licensed to Lead podcast is for physicians, physician leaders, or anyone who thinks healthcare needs a transformation. Licensed to Lead means that physicians must establish the vision, the standards, and the culture in healthcare systems so that excellent patient care is central. In this episode, Patty Fahy, MD, the host of Licensed to Lead describes the myths and evidence about physician leadership and why physicians are uniquely equipped to pick up the reins and lead our medical groups, hospitals, and healthcare systems. OVERVIEW PHYSICIAN CHARACTERISTICS= LEADERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS MYTHS:Physicians are arrogant,un-herdable cats and lone wolves who don’t understand teamwork, business, or finances EVIDENCE: We’ve reviewed the myths—nowwhat’s the EVIDENCE about physicians’ performance in leadership roles? DETAILS: Part One— Physician Characteristics Here are five leadership traits that ought to get you fired up to see a physician in the corner office of your institution: Technical expertise Tacit knowledge The physician’s ability to learn and to adapt Physicians understand the needs of other people at work Physicians are trusted by the community and patients Part Two—Myths Time to bust some of the myths and stereotypes about physicians: Stereotype… #1 Doctors are lone wolves or cowboys who can’t get along on a team #2Physicians have a command and control decision-making style #3 Physicians are lousy at managing their money #4Docs are greedy and are primarily motivated by money #5Physicians are not suited to lead and not capable of running the business Find out why the stereotypes are not only wrong but also are harmful to physicians, staff and patients. Rampant stereotypes make leadership roles look unappealing to physicians, allow administrators to wave off concerns by physicians, permit apathy about the need for vigilant recruiting and selection, and permit avoidance by administrators of tough behavioral issues. Part Three—The Evidence Please Here is the data on physician-led organizations: the striking underrepresentation of physicians in leadership generally and the equally striking overrepresentation of physician leaders at the top performing healthcare institutions. Find out why being an expert in the core business creates better outcomes. One of several findings that is cited is the 2018-19 US News and World Report Best Hospitals Report: of 20 hospitals listed on the Honor Roll of Best Hospitals 70% have physician CEOs. Notably, only about 6% of hospitals nationwide have physician CEOs. ACTION STEPS: Challenge the myths about physicians—they areinaccurate but more importantly they cause harm If you knowpeople in positions to influence your next CEO selection—provide your perspective. Or send them links to this podcast. If you’re 100% clinician or if you’re a student—consider making leadership development topicsten percent (10%)of your own continuing medical education program. Commencement Ceremonies at the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THE GRADUATES! The USC Sol Price School of Public Policy's commencement ceremony keynote by Chris Van Gorder. As president and CEO of Scripps Health since 2000, Chris Van Gorder has been instrumental in positioning Scripps among the nation's foremost health care institutions. Now he is leading the restructure of the $2.3 billion, integrated health system to best prepare for the changes of health care reform. Board certified in health care management and an American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Fellow, in 2010 he served as Chairman of ACHE, an international professional society of more than 40,000 health care executives who lead hospitals, health care systems and other health care organizations. As chairman, he provided leadership for an established network of more than 80 ACHE chapters that provide local access to networking, education and career development. ACHE is also known for its prestigious FACHE credential, signifying board certification in health care management. At Scripps Health, Van Gorder oversees all functions of the integrated health system, including its five acute-care hospital campuses, dozens of outpatient centers throughout San Diego County, and a regional home health service. More than 13,000 employees and 2,600 affiliated physicians provide care at Scripps, which has made the Fortune magazine "100 Best Hospitals to Work For" list for four consecutive years. This year it was named by AARP as the No. 1 employer in the nation for workers 50 and older -- the first California-based company to take top honors. Van Gorder received his master's degree in public administration/health services administration at the University of Southern California, completed the Wharton CEO Program at the University of Pennsylvania and earned his bachelor's degree from California State University, Los Angeles. In 2008, Van Gorder and his executive team were named the Top Leadership Team in Health Care for large health systems by HealthLeaders magazine. Since 2007, Van Gorder has been included on the "100 Most Powerful in Health Care" list, compiled by Modern Healthcare magazine. In 2011, he was listed as No. 18. Van Gorder was part of medical history following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, when U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona, M.D., asked a Scripps medical unit to staff a temporary clinic for hurricane survivors in the Houston Convention Center. The request for Scripps' assistance marked the first time the federal government asked a private health care organization for long-term support for a nationally organized disaster relief plan. The Scripps Medical Response Team later provided community medical support following the 2007 San Diego County wildfires, and again in January 2010, when Van Gorder and the Scripps Medical Response Team traveled to Port au Prince, Haiti to aid victims of the devastating earthquake. In October 2010, Van Gorder announced a new direction for Scripps Health. In anticipation of dramatic change in health care, he "turned the organization on its side," creating a horizontally matrixed management structure to identify and significantly reduce unnecessary variation in patient care and health care operations. The new "One Scripps" approach led to $70 million in performance improvements in the first year.
MD Anderson ranked No. 1 in cancer care, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2012 Best Hospitals survey.
