Medical tourism is no longer a fringe trend — it's a global, highly competitive industry. Each year, more than 1.5 million people travel to Turkey for medical procedures, with hair transplants and cosmetic surgery driving a significant share of that volume. Istanbul alone is home to over 1,000 hair transplant clinics, alongside hundreds of cosmetic and plastic surgery clinics — all competing aggressively for the same international patient. In this episode of OMD TV & the OMD Growth Podcast, Huyen Truong breaks down: Why Turkey became the global hub for medical tourism How extreme competition forces clinics into price wars Why UK, EU, US and Australian clinics lose when they try to compete on price And most importantly — how Western clinics can win patients back without discounting or destroying margins This episode builds on insights from Video #84 / Podcast #132 – Why Are Turkish Clinics So Good at Selling & Dominating Medical Tourism, and goes deeper into strategy, positioning, patient psychology, and long-term competitive advantage. If you run a hair transplant clinic, plastic surgery practice, or aesthetic clinic — and you're losing patients to overseas options — this episode will change how you think about competition. What You'll Learn in This Episode How competitive the Turkish medical tourism market really is (with real numbers) Why price is always the first battleground in overcrowded markets Why lowering your price is the fastest way to lose long-term How to reposition your clinic around total value, safety, and continuity of care How to structure consultations so price becomes the outcome — not the entry point How to compete on experience, authority, and long-term patient relationships Why education beats fear, and strategy beats discounts Key Links Mentioned

In this episode of The Plastic Surgery Revolution, Steven Davis tackles one of the fastest-growing conversations in aesthetics today: medical tourism. From hair transplants and breast augmentations to tummy tucks and Brazilian butt lifts, more patients are traveling outside the United States seeking lower-cost procedures. But according to Dr. Davis, the surgery itself is only part of the equation. After attending a major international aesthetic surgery meeting in Boston featuring some of the world's most respected plastic surgeons, Dr. Davis shares an honest perspective on the difference between seeking out elite international surgeons versus choosing surgery based solely on price. This episode explores: The rise of medical tourism in plastic surgery Why follow-up care matters just as much as the procedure itself The difference between high-level international surgical centers and low-cost “surgery packages” Risks involving infections, drains, wound care, and post-op complications Why recovery planning is critical before traveling for surgery The growing trend of overseas hair transplant procedures Dr. Davis also discusses real-world scenarios his practice has recently encountered involving patients returning home with complications, infections, and little to no follow-up guidance. The key takeaway: Aesthetic surgery is never just a one-day procedure — it's a process that requires planning, recovery, and ongoing care. Is the "Medical Tourism" bargain worth the risk? Millions of Americans travel abroad every year for everything from cosmetic surgery and dental work to cancer treatments and organ transplants. While the primary draw is often the significantly lower price tag, the hidden costs can be deadly. From unapproved medical products to the harrowing "horror stories" of procedures gone wrong in destinations like Turkey and Mexico, the dangers of seeking care outside U.S. regulations are rising. FOX News Rundown host Lisa Brady sits down with Dr. Sheila Nazarian, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and professor at USC, to pull back the curtain on this growing trend. They discuss why patients are fleeing the U.S. healthcare system, the life-threatening risks of "discount" surgery, and the essential safety questions every patient must ask before booking a flight for a procedure. Listeners are all well aware US healthcare is increasingly unaffordable. Among other stats nearly 50% of Americas are either uninsured, at 8% or 27 million, or underinsured, at 41% or 120 million. Upwards of 4.8 million Americans are expected to drop their ACA coverage; the average commercial family plan comes w/a $6,800 annual premium and 42% of Americans are now enrolled in high-deductible commercial health plans. As a result 36% of all adults now skip or postpone medical care. Though I've likely previously cited, the Noble Prize-winning Princeton economist Angus Deaton concluded in 2020, the US healthcare industry, “is a cancer at the heart of the economy, one that has widely metastasized, bringing down wages, destroying good jobs and making it harder and harder for state and federal governments to afford what their constituents need. Public purpose and wellbeing of ordinary people are being subordinated to the private gain of the already well off. None of this would be possible without acquiescence – and sometimes enthusiastic participation – of the politicians who are supposed to act in the interest of the public.” This is a public episode. Medical tourism once promised faster, cheaper cosmetic procedures—but in 2026, that trend is rapidly declining. In this episode of The Plastic Surgery Revolution, Dr. Steven Davis explains why more patients are turning away from overseas surgery, especially for procedures like hair transplants, body contouring, and post–weight loss treatments. While the procedure itself may look appealing upfront, the lack of follow-up care, communication, and long-term planning often leaves patients frustrated—or seeking corrective treatment back home. Dr. Davis breaks down why plastic surgery is never “one and done”, how healing timelines and maintenance impact final results, and why procedures like hair restoration and skin tightening require months of guided care. He also connects this trend to GLP-1 weight loss medications, menopause-related skin changes, and the growing need for proactive, longitudinal treatment plans. If you're considering surgery—locally or abroad—this episode explains why continuity of care may be the most important part of your result. On this episode of the Free Thought Project podcast, Matt and Jason are joined by returning champion Aaron Day for his fourth appearance on the show. Day is a liberty activist, entrepreneur, and author. He is the Chairman of the Stark360 PAC and has been a prominent voice in the Free State Project. His latest ventures include his 2026 U.S. Senate run to promote liberty from the inside and Oasara, a counter-economy solution to medical tyranny. We kick off the conversation with Aaron's controversial new bid for U.S. Senate in New Hampshire. Aaron explains why he is entering the belly of the beast and how he plans to use the platform not to govern, but to promote voluntaryist values and expose the two-party paradigm as a criminal enterprise. The discussion then turns to the state of political prisoners in the West. We break down the "ransom" of Roger Ver—who was effectively extorted for millions to avoid a cage—and discuss the ongoing persecution of privacy pioneers like Ian Freeman and Roman Storm. This bleeds into a critical look at the state of crypto, how Bitcoin has been "hijacked" by institutional interests, and why the EU is terrified of true privacy coins. Later, we pivot to the solutions: Medical Freedom. Aaron unveils his new project, Oasara, a medical tourism marketplace designed to help people escape the U.S. healthcare price-gouging (where markups can hit 10,000%). He debunks the myths that "cheaper means worse," explains how AI and privacy are being integrated into patient care, and shares his vision for a parallel health system. We also touch on Aaron's creative side, discussing his eye-opening AI-generated music, before wrapping up with a unique "White Pill" on finding the leverage to dismantle tyranny. In this episode, we examine the realities behind universal health care by looking at Canada's system, wait times, medical tourism, and cases where patients are denied life-saving treatment. We discuss the rise of weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy, the economics behind high drug prices, and why “miracle” medications often create new dependencies and unintended costs. We scrutinize airline incivility, declining standards of behavior, and why airlines are reluctant to enforce norms despite growing problems. Phil Magness also joins us to discuss the internal collapse of the Heritage Foundation, the rise of post-liberal conservatism, and the growing influence of figures like Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes. This episode features Viren Shetty, Vice Chairman of Narayana Health, discussing how his father founded a cardiac surgery hospital in India 25 years ago that revolutionized healthcare delivery by applying manufacturing efficiency principles to drastically reduce costs while maintaining quality. The conversation explores how Narayana Health scaled from one cardiac center to 19 multi-specialty hospitals across India and one in the Cayman Islands by implementing supply chain optimization, standardization of care, physician specialization, and high-volume operations—enabling them to perform cardiac surgeries at a fraction of Western costs. Shetty discusses the challenges and opportunities of operating in India's largely out-of-pocket healthcare market, the hospital's expansion into insurance and primary care to become a fully integrated provider, their measured approach to AI adoption, and why their high-volume, efficiency-driven model wouldn't directly translate to the US healthcare system despite offering valuable lessons in operational excellence and cost reduction. Many US residents have traveled to different locations to receive plastic surgery. Motivations for this include lower costs, privacy considerations, or access to surgeons who are not locally available. But, it's important to carefully review all aspects of pursuing procedures elsewhere and consider potential challenges. These may include whether the selected procedure is appropriate, thorough understanding of the surgeon's training and experience, the possibility of complications, the need for additional surgeries without local support, and insurance coverage issues. In this episode, we speak with Dr. Daniel Kaufman in Miami, who has experience with medical tourism. He performs specialized procedures for patients who travel for care, and he also assists those who have experienced complications after having surgery in other locations. You'll want to hear his insights. This time on Code WACK! Why are some Americans choosing to go off the health insurance grid? For Lani Gonzales, entrepreneur and hypnotherapist, it was the mounting frustration with denials, delays … and ultimately being dropped by her health insurer through no fault of her own. So instead of reapplying she walked away—and pieced together a system for herself. Combining medical tourism, concierge medicine, a health share and even reclaiming her Philippine citizenship, Lani took an unconventional route to take control of her health care. What drove her to make these radical changes—and what can we learn from her journey? This is the second episode in a two-part series. Check out the Transcript and Show Notes for more! Casino Tourism. Concert & Event Tourism. Medical Tourism. The Night Economy. Live-streaming. Public-Private Tourism Partnerships. Many of the hot topics related to Macau's diversification of its tourism economy and inbound market mix bear similarities to countries in South East Asia. There are two key differences, however. 1) Macau is the world city most reliant on tourism income as a proportion of GDP due to casino tourism, and it famously outstripped Las Vegas for gaming revenue in 2006. 2) Macau is 22 times smaller than Singapore, but last year attracted more than twice the total of visitors. To reduce its heavy reliance on visitors from China and Hong Kong, Macau is aggressively marketing to South East Asian travellers - and with some success. To assess the future outlook, Gary is joined by Glenn McCartney, Associate Professor of Integrated Resort & Tourism Management at the University of Macau, and a Tourism and Hospitality Consultant and Executive Trainer. He worked in Macau's hospitality industry during the handover from Portugal to China in 1999, and undertook research for the Macau Government on tourism and gaming development during the casino liberalisation period of the early 2000s. Together, Gary and Glenn unpack the challenges ahead for Macau's next phase of tourism economy development, and assess how the tiny island city is confronting new competition in casino tourism, as Japan, Thailand and the UAE covet this highly lucrative sector.

In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop welcomes Jonathan Dickinson, a specialist in Ibogaine treatment and co-founder/CEO of Ambio Life Sciences and Teregnosis. They discuss the history and therapeutic uses of Iboga and Ibogaine, focusing on its effects in treating heroin addiction, traumatic brain injury, and chronic pain. Jonathan also shares insights into the cultural origins of Iboga, its use in traditional Bwiti ceremonies, and how modern approaches, particularly his work with veterans, expand its applications. More information about Jonathan's work can be found at Ambio Life.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversation!Timestamps00:00 Introduction to the Crazy Wisdom Podcast00:21 Understanding Ibogaine and Its Uses02:00 Ibogaine's Impact on Veterans and Brain Injuries03:57 Psycho-Spiritual and Medical Benefits of Ibogaine07:12 Scientific Studies and Misconceptions18:50 Legalization and Research Challenges25:05 Ibogaine Sourcing and Sustainability31:43 Ibogaine Smuggling and Export Practices32:10 Pharmaceutical Grade Iboga Extract33:36 Challenges of Growing Iboga33:53 Traditional Growth Methods and Cultural Attitudes37:04 Global Cultivation Efforts38:05 Access and Benefit Sharing Agreements38:54 Traditional Knowledge and Bwiti Culture39:40 Historical Context of Iboga Use40:44 Bantu and Pygmy Cultural Exchange42:31 Bwiti Rituals and Practices46:23 Learning from Traditional Practices48:19 Western and Traditional Knowledge Integration55:58 Future of Iboga and Ibogaine59:22 Connecting with AmbioKey InsightsIboga and Ibogaine as Addiction Treatments: Ibogaine is primarily known for its effectiveness in treating heroin addiction. It interrupts the addiction cycle through a powerful psychoactive experience lasting 12-24 hours, which helps individuals detox from drugs like heroin and opioids. After the session, many report being free of withdrawal symptoms and cravings for months, providing a unique pathway out of addiction.Use in Treating Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): Jonathan has worked extensively with veterans, especially Navy SEALs, using Ibogaine to address TBIs. These injuries, often from combat-related concussive forces, lead to symptoms that mirror PTSD. Ibogaine appears to regenerate brain function, as seen in a study conducted with Stanford University, where veterans exhibited significant brain activity improvement following treatment.Cultural Roots in Bwiti and African Traditions: Iboga has deep cultural significance in Gabon, particularly in Bwiti spiritual practices, which have been influenced by both indigenous Pygmy traditions and Bantu peoples. Bwiti uses Iboga in ceremonies for psycho-spiritual exploration, healing, and connection to ancestors, a tradition that has persisted for centuries and possibly millennia.Misunderstandings About Noribogaine: Many believe that noribogaine, a metabolite of Ibogaine, remains in the body for up to eight months, contributing to long-lasting effects. However, Jonathan clarifies that noribogaine remains in the system for only a few days or a week. The extended feeling of ease or afterglow people experience may be due to neurotrophic factors like GDNF, which stimulate brain healing and regeneration over time.Emerging Scientific Understanding of Ibogaine: Research into Ibogaine's mechanisms is still developing. It acts on many receptors in the brain, including the Sigma 2 receptor, which has been linked to pain relief and neuroprotective effects. There's also growing interest in its potential role in intracellular processes and energy metabolism, where it appears to improve cellular efficiency, possibly explaining its long-term regenerative effects on brain function.Decentralized Knowledge and Treatment Communities: Unlike tightly regulated pharmaceutical models, Ibogaine treatment has grown in a decentralized, community-driven way, with providers sharing their experiences and knowledge. This echoes the traditions of Bwiti and emphasizes the importance of communal support around Ibogaine therapy, where the intensity of the experience requires a supportive environment and a collective sharing of insights.Sustainability and Ethical Sourcing of Iboga: Jonathan is actively involved in ensuring the sustainable and ethical sourcing of Iboga through his company, Teregnosis. Working with Gabonese communities, Teregnosis follows the Nagoya Protocol to ensure that the benefits of Iboga's growing global interest are shared with the traditional communities that have long relied on this plant, protecting both the ecosystem and cultural heritage.
