Tina Bakehouse is living proof that even the best teachers are always learning. As an intuitive communication coach, she's built a reputation for helping others communicate with confidence and authenticity. But as she shares in this conversation, her early days in business were filled with valuable lessons—especially about getting clear on her offers. Like many of us, Tina learned that trying to be everything to everyone only leads to confusion. It's a little like showing up at a potluck with five half-baked dishes—your guests won't know where to start, and chances are, nothing gets devoured. Here are some key insights from Tina's journey: The Power of One Clear Offer: When Tina launched her first five-day workshop, she tried selling both group and individual coaching simultaneously—at the same price. The result? Mixed signals and fewer sales. Her big takeaway? Pick one lane, get crystal clear on your ask, and make it easy for people to say yes. Align Offers to the Audience and Platform: Tina now tailors her approach depending on the audience—whether it's small business owners, corporate teams, or C-suite executives. It's about tuning in and delivering what feels right for the moment. Seasonal Strategy: Business has rhythms, just like nature. Tina takes a softer approach in the summer, reserving her high-energy keynotes and workshops for colder months. That shift keeps her inspired and energized throughout the year. Stay True to Yourself: Above all, Tina believes in showing up authentically. By leaning into her identity as an intuitive communication coach, she naturally draws in the right clients and builds meaningful connections. For business owners juggling multiple products or services, Tina's journey is a reminder that less is often more. Get clear on your offer, tailor it to the moment, and align your work with what fuels your energy. When you do, success stops feeling like a chaotic balancing act and starts to flow naturally. Tina Bakehouse is passionate, experienced, intuitive communication consultant & coach, storyteller, creative, and NEW AUTHOR of the book Discovering Our Magnetic Speaker Within.

The greatest obstacle to productivity isn't a lack of time, skill, or effort—it's the invisible weight of doubt, stress, and worry. We grind ourselves down, convinced that success comes from doing more, when in reality, true effectiveness begins with thinking better. In this episode of the Productivity Smarts Podcast, Gerald J. Leonard sits down with retired pediatrician Dr. Ron Schneebaum to uncover a truth that could transform the way you approach work, relationships, and life. Together, they explore the powerful connection between emotional health, happiness, and productivity. Dr. Schneebaum shares his transformative journey in medicine, where he adopted a holistic approach to patient care—treating the whole person, not just their symptoms. He reveals how compassion, love, and empathy are essential for not only healing but managing stress and thriving in all aspects of life. The conversation delves deeper into childhood trauma's lasting effects and the importance of addressing emotional wounds for personal growth. One of the episode's most impactful moments is Ron's morning reflection routine, a practice that grounds him and helps him face challenges with calm and purpose. If you're ready to shift your mindset and live with more intention, this episode is a must-listen. Tune in to learn how nurturing your emotional health can unlock your full potential—both at work and in life. They talk about the loved ones they spent time with, the people they helped, the memories they created, the things that they did that made a difference in other people's lives." — Gerald J. Leonard [21:18] "When you care more about the person than just about getting the job done, the job will get done, but the person will be engaged." — Ron [23:10] "One of the ways that I find is a great stress reliever, and this is available for everyone, is to set your alarm clock for about 10 or 15 minutes earlier than you need to get up and visualize your day ahead." — Ron [29:05] "Think of somebody in jazz, like the greats doing their solos, or Ella Fitzgerald doing her scat stuff where she ends up back where she started. It didn't come out of her never having practiced it; she really worked at it." — Ron Our Guest Dr. Ron Schneebaum is a retired pediatrician with over 40 years of experience in the medical field. A Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, he served on the clinical faculty of Dartmouth College's Geisel School of Medicine. "The best mentors I've ever had always told me about their failures."Failure isn't just a misstep; it's a choreographer of growth and change. Faceplants, blunders, and spectacular miscalculations are less about defeat and more about refinement. Think of failure as that brutally honest friend-- uncomfortable, yes, but invaluable. Real growth rarely comes from a flawless victory; it thrives in the aftermath of our most humbling defeats, where we sift through the rubble for lessons sharper than any polished success. Our guests, Huds and Wingman, co-founders of the Men of Now community, share raw, unfiltered stories of personal challenges that became pivotal turning points in their lives. From navigating toxic relationships to facing legal and financial struggles, they reveal how these experiences catalyzed their growth. They discuss the importance of mentorship, community, and accountability—highlighting that true wisdom often comes from the willingness to confront uncomfortable truths, both from within and from the people who care enough to call you out.Huds and Wingman are two of the three co-founders of the Men of Now community. They're dedicated to helping men become the best versions of themselves through mentorship and personal development. Huds' journey into men's work began after overcoming profound personal struggles that reshaped his outlook on life, while Wingman stumbled into the space through mentorship and a knack for guiding others. 342 The Best Teacher Is Life Throughout life we all have to learn some difficult lessons, some lessons are harder than others, but if you persist and remember your core values you will succeed with more knowledge of yourself and your capabilities than you started with. In today's episode Sarah Elkins and Gail Harris discuss the importance of learning the harder lessons in life and coming out the other side to share these experiences with others. Highlights Loss strengthens us by how we move through it. Turn your sorrow into art, so that others will know they aren't alone. Divine timing, even if you can't see the full plan in the moment, some things are meant to be. Life is your teacher. Quotes “I'm more than my human self.” “I just let myself feel it, because I did believe that that was a forked road. Because if you don't feel it and you become numb to it, then you hang onto it forever. It's not that we ever don't feel the grief -feel the loss- you will always feel the loss but the grief I think can transform.” Dear Listeners it is now your turn, I would love to hear from you. When you think about your own life stories, it's not just one event and it's not a timeline of events. I would love to hear what you're thinking about and as you've listened to this episode in terms of holding space for other people's grief, what you would write about if you were to write your story, and what would you include? Which characters, which part of your life? And, as always, thank you for listening. About Sarah "Uncovering the right stories for the right audiences so executives, leaders, public speakers, and job seekers can clearly and actively demonstrate their character, values, and vision." In my work with coaching clients, I guide people to improve their communication using storytelling as the foundation of our work together. What I've realized over years of coaching and podcasting is that the majority of people don't realize the impact of the stories they share - on their internal messages, and on the people they're sharing them with. My work with leaders and people who aspire to be leaders follows a similar path to the interviews on my podcast, uncovering pivotal moments in their lives and learning how to share them to connect more authentically with others, to make their presentations and speaking more engaging, to reveal patterns that have kept them stuck or moved them forward, and to improve their relationships at work and at home. The audiobook, Your Stories Don't Define You, How You Tell Them Will is now available! Included with your purchase are two bonus tracks, songs recorded by Sarah's band, Spare Change, in her living room in Montana. Be sure to check out the Storytelling For Professionals Course as well to make sure you nail that next interview!

Thanks to those of you who completed the recent survey on how I can serve you better, some changes are coming to the YPM world! While most respondents said they loved the length of the episodes because they appreciate how much detail we can get into in that time, a number of people said they had trouble finding the time to listen to longer episodes, as well as share them with others. Our long episodes aren't going anywhere; I love being able to truly understand an issue and have deep conversations with experts. But I hear you that it can be hard to find an hour to listen! That's why I'm going to start creating summary episodes. This first one summarizes the last two episodes on the topic of video games - both the conversation with @TheGamerEducator Ash Brandin, and my narrated episode on what children learn from video games. You'll get my take-home ideas from both episodes in less than 12 minutes! If you're starting to see the deep learning that children are doing while they're playing video games and want to support them in having more of these kinds of experiences…but without using screens all the time, the You Are Your Child's Best Teacher workshop will help you. We'll help you learn how to use your child's questions and your observations about their interests to support them in deep, intrinsically motivated learning. You'll learn: Learn how to use your child's interests as a jumping off point for deep, self-driven learning Show (to yourself and others!) that your child is engaged in complex, multi-faceted learning Reimagine what learning looks like (it can be exciting and fun, and not something you have to bribe your child to do!) Understand your values about learning so you can do activities that are aligned with those values Be and believe you can be your child's best teacher - whether or not your child is in school We'll get started next Wednesday, so click the banner and sign up now! Jump to Highlights 01:26 Introducing today's episode 02:06 Balancing kids' screen time is a gradual process of sharing responsibility and making adjustments based on their abilities. 03:35 Children are drawn to video games because they meet needs for competence, autonomy, and relatedness. 03:54 There is no strong evidence that video games cause violence. 05:27 Children can learn about cultural issues like misogyny and violence from video games and other media. 07:19 Video games allow children to actively engage in learning by exploring unique systems and strategies, similar to real scientific thinking. 08:41 Children develop creativity and persistence through video games. 09:18 Invitation to the free You Are Your Child's Best Teacher...
Your Parenting Mojo - Respectful, research-based parenting ideas to help kids thrive
Last week, parent Nicole and I talked with @TheGamerEducator Ash Brandin about the challenges we can have when our kids love video games. [insert link to previous episode] I had also hoped to ask Ash a lot of questions about what children learn from video games but we completely ran out of time, so I spent a fun day reading 10 books on the topic at the University of New Mexico library (non-students can't check out books!). I wanted to know a lot more about: Why do children find video games so attractive? And can we use that information to make the transitions away from screen time easier - as well as support their off-screen learning? Even if video games don't lead children to violence, are they picking up ideas that aren't aligned with our values? What useful skills are our children learning from video games, and how is this different from school-based learning? If you want to learn how to support your child's learning even more effectively than video games do, come and join me for the FREE You Are Your Child's Best Teacher workshop. We'll start together on Wednesday August 7 - you'll get a short email on each of the five following weekdays with an idea to consider and a short homework to think about, write about, or do with your child. The weekend in the middle of the workshop offers an ideal opportunity for you to begin your child's first Learning Exploration where they are leading the process rather than you! Video games can be tough. Our kids enjoy them so much…but can't tear their eyes away from them when time's up without a meltdown. Some games, like Fortnite and Roblox, can be really violent, and aren't our kids learning bad messages when they play? Plus even if they aren't playing something violent, they aren't really learning anything beneficial, right? In this episode with @TheGamerEducator Ash Brandin and co-interviewer parent Nicole, we talk about common struggles parents have with kids who are playing games, including: How to address dysregulation at the end of screen time How to ‘scaffold' the child's ability to manage their own screen time The links between screen time and intrinsic motivation Why we can feel OK using screen time to give ourselves a break How to model appropriate screen time use in front of our children If summer is rolling on by and you've seen your kids do a lot of playing (whether that's video games or not) and not a lot of activities that look like learning, I'd love to see you in the FREE You Are Your Child's Best Teacher workshop that's coming up soon. We'll start together on Wednesday August 7, 2024 - you'll get a short email on each of the five following weekdays with an idea to consider and a short homework to think about, write about, or do with your child.
