El jueves pasado el senador Sergio Botana pidió la renuncia de la presidenta del Banco Hipotecario (BHU), Casilda Echevarría. ¿Lo sorprendente de ese planteo? Ambos pertenecen al Partido Nacional. Hagamos un repaso. El Senado está estudiando un proyecto de ley presentado por legisladores de distintas tiendas del oficialismo, entre ellos Botana, que busca darle una solución a unos 24.000 deudores en Unidades Reajustables (UR) del BHU y de la Agencia Nacional de Vivienda (ANV). El reclamo de esa solución tiene ya varios años; en esta legislatura se han presentado cuatro proyectos. El texto que ahora está a consideración del Parlamento incluye, entre otros puntos, la supresión del BHU y que su actividad sea absorbida totalmente por el Banco República. Los senadores que lo impulsan afirman que, sin esa fusión, el BHU no podría hacerse cargo de los costos que implicaría el plan para los deudores en UR. Y como la discusión ha ido alargándose, la semana pasada se votó por unanimidad en el Senado una minuta dirigida al Poder Ejecutivo para que se suspendan los remates e intimaciones de adeudos del BHU y de la ANV. Esa solicitud se basa en que mientras sigue el análisis del tema en el Parlamento “un número importante de familias perderían su vivienda”. Pero la presidenta del BHU, Casilda Echevarría, respondió que ese pedido es “una gran demagogia”. Y eso llevó a Botana a reclamarle que renuncie. -Lo que diga esta señora la verdad que nos tiene bastante sin cuidado. Se ha dedicado a agredir a los que queremos dar una solución que es de estricta justicia, que es pagar una deuda que el Estado tiene con su gente. Sería mejor que no estuviera en ese lugar. -¿Tendría que renunciar? -Sería bueno para todos. Profundizamos en este nuevo giro de este asunto. Conversamos En Perspectiva con la Dra. El Parlamento estudia en estos días la supresión del Banco Hipotecario del Uruguay (BHU), una institución fundada hace 131 años. La desaparición de este ente autónomo es parte de un proyecto de ley presentado por senadores oficialistas que instrumenta una solución para unos 24.000 deudores en Unidades Reajustables del BHU que reclaman, hace años, una refinanciación de sus créditos.  En concreto, el texto prevé que se suprima el BHU y que la actividad de esta institución pase en su totalidad al Banco República (BROU).
