Under samma tid som Sverige gick från att vara världens mest homogena nation till ett av världens mest mångkulturella länder på rekordsnabb tid, under 1990- och 2000-talet, städades ordet ras målmedvetet ut ur svenska språket. Från statlig och juridisk nivå till det offentliga samtalet i stort. Sverige skulle bli världens första antirasistiska statsbildning och alla svenskar skulle bli antirasister. 1996 lägger Miljöpartiet fram motionen och en enig riksdagen beslutar att utmönstra ordet ras ur all lagstiftning. Nu finns det bara en ras - "människorasen". Men det gällde bara Sverige och ännu en gång stod vi ensamma i världen. Ordet ras byts ut till massvis med eufemismer. Invandrare, etnicitet, utrikesfödda, minoriteter osv. Men blev Sveriges kamp med avståndstagandet från landets rasbiologiska historia viktigare än att bekämpa rasism, på riktigt?   Hur blev ordet ras så laddat? Varför finns det en diskrepans mellan de som anser att rasism inte finns i Sverige och de som upplever det i sin vardag? Vilka effekter har det fått på samtalet, kulturen och lagstiftningen? Och varför kritiserar Europa och resten av världen vårt vägval?   Tobias Hübinette är författare, docent, lektor och forskare vid Karlstads Universitet. Hans forskningsområden rör allt ifrån ras- och vithet till adoption, nazism och fascism, migration, visuella studier och postkolonial teori. Nu är han aktuell med boken Den svenska färgblindheten. I boken har han kartlagt framväxten av den svenska antirasismen och dess dominerande ideologi - färgblindheten. Vi pratar om hur Sverige har påverkats av oförmågan att tala om ras och varför docenten är så ensam om att värna om ordet.
