Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Al: Hello Dr. Cabral, I have a question about food sensitivity. If my food intolerance test show high reactivity to chicken eggs (whites in red field), can I safely eat other eggs like quail eggs, duck eggs etc? I particularly like quail eggs and there are some good nutrition informations about them. What do you think? My second questuion is about fruits after meals. I am aware from your podcasts that fruit isnt good to combine with solid meals. In my case, it causes bloating if eaten after a meal as a desert, but only if its fresh fruit. If the fruit is eaten dried as a dessert, there is no issue whatsoever. Why is that, it doesnt make sense to me? I dont drink much fluids after meals and my OAT is clear of candida by the way. Thank you. Jacqueline: Hi Dr Cabral Thank you for everything you and your team do. 2 questions regarding pregnancy. I am just finishing fmd 21, heavy metal and cbo protocols. My husband and I are going to start trying at what point should one stop use of sauna and flying on airplanes. Any other health habits or products other trn herbs that should be postponed to post breast feeding? Rickardo: Hi Stephen Cabral. on my recent blood tests with my GP over the last few years, i have had low white blood cells neutrophils. My doctor has no idea why this is casued, but said it is best we just monitor it. Do you have any suggestions as to how i can raise my levels and become healthy again? thanks so much ! Karen: Hi there Dr. Cabral and team - so grateful for all you guys are doing!!! I recently listened to a podcast from someone who seems very knowledgeable about gut health say that ox bile shouldn't be taken with meals because it DECREASES stomach acid. Could you weight in on this Karen: Just wanted to see if you had any thoughts on the pros and cons of CALCIFEDIOL vs. CHOLECALCIFEROL versions of vitamin D supplements? Thanks so much! Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Melissa: I have been told that vitamin d from cholecalciferol is toxic and a possible carcinogen. That it can also be bad for cholesterol and other things. Can you elaborate on this? I can only use vegan supplements due to a mammal allergy (Alpha-Gal) and, the vitamin d I use is made from this. Am I using this when I should not be? Rhonda: Hey, Doc! I'm a big fan of your show and relatively new to living a more holistic lifestyle. Your show has been an amazing resource for me. We moved recently and our new yard has several patches of poison ivy. I am extremely sensitive to the oil. One small point of contact and I swear the ivy rash is all over my body in the blink of an eye. What do you recommend to treat the rash? And what do you think would be the safest method for eliminating any growth around the yard? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! Deanna: Dr.Cabral, Thanks for sharing your knowledge everyday with your podcasts and more! At the time of writing this my son is a little over one year. He suffers from severe food allergies to peanut, tree nut, sesame, and egg. We're going to start an oral immune therapy this spring to hopefully overcome these. I want to make sure we're doing everything we can to help my son have the best outcome. Are there any tests you recommend, and how young can we start testing and treatments? For background, my son was breastfed for four months and born vaginally. Thank you again! Julia: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have been researching this for a bit and can't find a clear answer to this question. I heard you say on a podcast that we shouldn't take Betaine HCL if we have H Pylori and I am trying to figure out why. If someone has H pylori and low stomach acid but no ulcers or reflux, what would be contra-indicative in taking Betaine HCL? I know h. pylori doesn't like an environment too acidic and secretes substances to raise the PH in the stomach, wouldn't it help to counteract this action? Thank you Cassandra: Hello Dr. Cabral! Back in 2021, you did a product review on methylene blue. Do you still take? Would you be willing to do a full case study podcast on its benefits and risks? I'm most interested in understanding the impact on the gut microbiome, healing of mitochondria (leading to increased production of ATP), and how it improves cognitive function. Also, are there any risks to daily consumption? Thank you for all you do! Send us a Text Message.Welcome to 'Rodenticide Chronicles Episode 3,' where we shed light on cholecalciferol toxicity, one of the most sinister rodenticide poisons. This episode unravels the enigma surrounding the clinical signs and symptoms of cholecalciferol exposure, which often start subtly with lethargy and weakness. As we discuss, the absence of a definitive test to identify the exact toxin makes it challenging for veterinarians to confirm the poisoning promptly. You'll gain a deeper understanding of the limitations and complexities of diagnosing this toxin and why waiting for results can have dire consequences. We emphasize that cholecalciferol toxicity has no quick fixes, and success stories depend on early detection and relentless dedication. Don't miss this comprehensive exploration of the intricacies of cholecalciferol toxicity, a crucial installment in 'Rodenticide Chronicles. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.02.27.530250v1?rss=1 Authors: DAS, T. K., Yong, E., Hamid, M. R. W. A. Abstract: Alzheimer disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia and contributes to 50-70% of neurodegenerative brain diseases. AD has been associated with poor vitamin D nutrition, which is correlated with low mood and impaired cognitive performance in older people. The impact of vitamin D on the insulin signaling pathway in AD is not well known. Hence, this study was to explore the effects of cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) on the expression of IRS-1, IRS-2, Akt, pAkt (Ser473), and GLUT3 in the sporadic AD rat model. The rats were induced to develop sporadic AD by intraperitoneal administration of Scopolamine. The downregulation expression of IRS-1, IRS-2, Akt, pAkt (Ser473) and GLUT3 may lead to impaired insulin signaling which is associated with the development of AD. All these data were compared to Saline-treated control rats. However, cholecalciferol treatment in AD rats may improve memory performance by increasing the expression of insulin signaling proteins and hence ameliorates impaired insulin signaling. All these data were compared to Scopolamine induced AD rats and sunflower oil-treated rats. Therefore, cholecalciferol treatment may be an alternative approach for the treatment of AD. In this episode, Tina & Leah discuss how you can reliably reduce your risk of cancer occurrence, recurrence, or improve your odds if you currently have cancer. They pick up where they left off in Episode 47, talking about The Cancer Conflict, a 2022 documentary directed by Thomas Meadmore that follows two separate people, each with newly diagnosed cancer. One chooses to use conventional treatments, adding some cutting-edge therapies from Germany. The other chooses to pursue alternative treatments only. The challenges each of them faces are universal. This film is the inspiration to discuss what you can do to help yourself, reliably. You don't need to see the film to get a whole lot of useful information from this episode. Vitamin D may be the most pivotal nutrient in all of cancer care. Tina and Leah talk about this hormone masquerading as a “vitamin.” How much is ideal? Do you need to take it? Can you get what you need from the sun? Is it even safe to take? There is a tremendous amount of information on vitamin D and cancer, so there is a lot to sift through to figure out what is well-founded and what is hype. Tina and Leah discuss the data, their experiences with patients, and how you can optimize your levels. They also discuss some safety concerns since this is one of the few vitamins that can lead to fatality if consumed in toxic amounts. As always, you will be entertained and educated. May you derive enough valuable information to feel compelled to share this and help others. Sharing is caring. :) Support the show
https://www.biobalancehealth.com/healthcast-blog/ Vitamin D is not just a vitamin, as most people think, it is a HORMONE called Cholecalciferol that is required for general health, thick bones, for making muscle and your immune system, your brain function, and for protecting you from diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Vitamin D also acts to assist your body in absorbing calcium and zinc from your food and supplements. Without Vitamin D3 these vital minerals go through your body without absorption, and you just excrete them without being able to use them. The vitamin-hormone Vitamin D comes in several forms. The form D2 comes in natural food sources such as salmon, swordfish, egg yolk and fortified foods such as milk, orange juice and other milk products like yogurt. However, Vitamin D2 is not a potent form of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is also produced by your skin in the melanin when you go out on a sunny day, however you would have to be out daily for most of the sunny hours, without sunscreen, at a latitude like where Phoenix and Destin Florida is or further south to absorb enough Vitamin D from the sun. Your skin absorption in the 21st century is usually minimal since medical science has promoted the use of sunscreen every day all day long which blocks our absorption of Vitamin D. Your skin tone also alters how much Vitamin D you absorb from the sun. if you have very light skin and burn easily it takes less time in the sun to absorb the same amount of vitamin D than someone who has dark skin. It is a given that most people who do not live in the southern US and have dark skin are not getting enough Vitamin D from the sun even if they work outdoors all day long, so they must take a supplement orally or in a shot of VitaminD3. The recommended oral dose is 5,000 MIUs of Vitamin D3 every day to receive enough Vitamin D in their body. For all people with all skin types, you should be out in the sun for an hour before you cover yourself in sunscreen. The sun gives you vitamin D, but also has other benefits. Remember no matter what skin type you have, the tanner you get the less vitamin D3 you absorb. It is a protective mechanism to prevent overdosing with D from the sun for those people who have dark skin and live in the sun around the equator. What does it really do? For one thing Vitamin D is essential to your immune system. If you want to be immune to viruses and bacteria as well as cancer you must have a normal blood level of vitamin D. The accepted level is 30 from the US government but it is preferable to have a blood level of 40-100 for optimal health. The other jobs of Vitamin D include Building muscle and bone, normalizing blood pressure and Type 2 Diabetes, preventing heart disease, stroke, and dementia. If you want to stay healthy throughout your life you should take oral Vitamin D3 5,000 miu per day. The Actions of Vitamin D3: We have already listed the important job of supporting your immune system to prevent infection and cancer. The addition Vitamin D supports Muscle and bone. Without Vitamin D, children get a disease of soft bones that bow their legs and prevent normal height, called Ricketts. It was common in the early industrial age when children were kept inside factories all day long to work instead of playing outside. Adults we must have Vitamin D to keep our muscles strong, and our bones thick. Muscle and bone are in a state of homeostasis which means they are growing and breaking down all of the time. If breakdown is more rapid than growth the bones become thin and are apt to break. The other necessary elements to keep bone and muscle strong are Calcium, Magnesium Vitamin C, and Vitamin K2. For optimal skeletal muscle (which includes the heart) you have to have adequate vitamin D levels in your blood. For example, patients in a recent study increased their muscle fiber size by taking 4,000 IUs of Vitamin D3 a day. They also made more Type II muscle fibers which are responsible for rising from a chair or lifting things over your head. Type two muscles are located in your hips, back and shoulders. Another study showed the just 1,000 IUs of Vitamin D3 increased muscle strength by 25%, without any other changes in diet or activity. Muscle training and exercise are also important, but you won't get the results from just taking Vitamin D, or exercise alone, that you would if you take Vitamin D3 + Exercise + Testosterone. If you are over 50 and don't exercise while you take Vitamin D and replace Testosterone with pellets. Type 2 Diabetes also affects 50% of our population, primarily from eating too many carbs, without exercising, but low vitamin D contributes to the development of diabetes and obesity as well. All people who are Insulin Resistant, who have Type 2 Diabetes or Prediabetes should be taking 5,000 MIU of vitamin D3 a day. Summary: The easiest and cheapest way to prevent heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, cancer, type 2 diabetes, and dementia, among others because it improves your immune system too. If you are Latino, Black, Italian, Israeli, or Greek, in, fact if your genetics are from any country around the Mediterranean, or just have dark skin, you must take Vitamin D3 to stay healthy! It is over the counter and relatively cheap. You should take Vitamin D3 in oil-capsule form for good absorption. Remember….Taking Vitamin D3 doesn't replace going outside for sun absorption. It is in addition to being in the sun! Sunscreen prevents Vitamin D3 absorption. Vitamin D may cut heart disease risk in dark-skinned adults A study to be presented at the Experimental Biology 2021 virtual meeting found that taking vitamin D supplements may help people with dark skin, including African Americans, to reduce their risk for heart disease.”Promoting adequate vitamin D status in young, otherwise healthy adults may improve nitric oxide availability and blood vessel function, and thereby serve as a prophylactic to reduce risk of future development of hypertension or cardiovascular disease," says researcher Tony Wolf. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let’s get started! Kazz: Hi Dr Cabral, thank you so much for sharing with us all your health knowledge, it is so appreciated! I have a question regarding vitamin D3 and the ingredient you use, specifically cholecalciferol. I searched on your podcasts for information regarding this and couldn't find.. I have heard, and my own follow-up research results show, that this ingredient is also used in rat poison and there seem to be some adverse effects from it in humans where they have similar symptoms as rats when poisoned by this. I'm sure you have some information on this and I'd love to hear more about it from your perspective, maybe even a whole podcast on it if you feel there is much info and people would benefit from hearing it. There is not too much discussion on this online that I can see and maybe your balanced perspective on cholecalciferol would benefit people when they are researching it. I'd love a juicy discussion about it from you if it is worthy of one, and why you think it is a good thing for us to take when it is an ingredient in rat poison. I do understand that most of us are deficient in vit d and supplementing benefits us, but why cholecalciferol when it seems to be used in rat poison? And then, what about the symptoms some people experience when taking it? Jenna: Hey Dr. Cabral! You and your team have helped me so much over the past 4 years with digestive distress and acne troubles, and I am so greatful for all that you do! I was wondering if you had any podcasts that go into depth on cavities? I went to the dentist in December and had to get 5 cavities filled, and I feel like I already have another one 4 months later. I eat well, limit my coffee intake to 2 cups a day maximum (yes I know I can still do better here), and exercise daily. I breathe through my nose normally, but in times of stress (my day job gets very stressful) and during hard workouts, I breathe through my mouth. Could this cause cavity formations? I never used to get cavities as a child, and got my first one at 18 years old. I’d love to get your take! Stephanie: Hi Dr Cabral! I'm wondering if you have any new research or updated information about the AHCC supplement? Almost a year ago on one of your Friday Review podcasts, you had briefly mentioned this supplement and specifically related it to HPV but said that you couldn't say much more about it. I recently had an abnormal pap test with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance with a positive test for other HR-HPV (not 16 or 18). This is the reason I have been interested in the research on AHCC. My next question is do you know of a good, high quality AHCC supplement that I could purchase? Thank you for everything you do and sharing your knowledge. I listen to your podcast pretty much everyday! I look forward to your response. Thanks again! Stephanie Victor: After a near death accident in 1994, I have not aged one day. Peopke can't believe when they see pictures of 30 years ago and even my primary doctor has said so. Can you explain? Hayley: Hi Dr Cabral, hoping you can offer some suggestions. Stuttering in children... I have an 8 year old son who has suffered with stuttering off and on over the years however had gotten worse and has been very persistent over the past 2 or so years now. He’s been seeing a speech therapist for a while now who offers techniques but it’s not really helping. A couple years ago we did the gut rebuilding protocol and a food sensitivity test. Nothing had seemed to shift it although I have read that increasing B1 and some amino acids may help. He regularly has DNS, we are mostly plant based and gf. I give additional zinc, c, b12 and iron when I suspect these are on the low side. Being in Australia I can no longer afford postage and the cost of further testing, do you know of anything else we could try? Thanks so much Meredith: Hi Dr. Cabral, I am so grateful for your work and it’s helped me so much. My questions is about my 7 year old son- from age 3-4.5 we lived in a home with black mold- I have tested positive and have been working the CBO and mold protocol myself. My son sneezes constantly, especially in the am- also struggles with paying attention in school and listening/complying with us. I am sure we have gotten out of the mold house, and I’ve had our current house tested. He tested allergic to mold and dust at the doctor, but I’ve not done a urine test for him. I want to help him and get rid of his symptoms. Assuming he does have mold, is there a kid protocol that is safe? Thanks so much- your advice is greatly appreciated! Did you know that rodenticides and insecticides are among the top 10 household toxins that poison pets, especially dogs, every year? Insect and rodent poisons can be just as toxic to our curious pets as they are to the pest itself. Common active ingredients include long-lasting anticoagulants, which can prevent animal’s blood from clotting, Cholecalciferol, which can lead to kidney failure in animals, and Bromethalin, a neurotoxin that can result in tremors, seizures and paralysis. March was Pet Poison Prevention Awareness month, with Poison Prevention Week spanning from March 14th - 21st. We’re responsible for protecting our four-legged friends, so as we gear up for spring, it's time to choose pest prevention that doesn’t put them in harm’s way. In this episode I interview Kari Warberg Block from EarthKind’s. They special in making plant-based, poison-free pest prevention. Their products are eco-friendly and safe for use around pets and children. Kari also discusses the dangers of chemical-heavy products and their effects on your pet. She’ll tell you what to do if your pet is poisoned, and how to keep your furry family members safe from these harmful products.

Do you supplement with 2000-5000 International Units (IU) of Vitamin D each day? Or, do you use your lunch hour to lie in the sun in just a loincloth? If not, you're likely low in vitamin D. More than half of the world’s population is deficient in vitamin D, and as many as four out of five in the United States may be below optimal levels. Low blood levels of vitamin D increase risk factors for diabetes, arthritis, dementia, and bone loss. You could also be increasing your risk of viral infections, like the flu. Fortunately, the most common micronutrient deficiency in the world is easily preventable. High-quality supplements are inexpensive, and if you live in the right latitude, you can get a healthy dose from moderate mid-day sun exposure. After reading this article, you’ll understand why vitamin D is one of my Foundational Five, the best supplements for foundational health. In all my many years of practice of medicine, I've never seen one vitamin, even vitamin C, have such a profound effect on human health.Dr. Soram Khalsa, board-certified internist and medical director of the East-West Medical Research Institute What is Vitamin D? Vitamin D is actually a prohormone, not a vitamin. It influences the expression of more than 200 genes and acts as a precursor to hormones such as DHEA and cortisol. The active form is called 25-hydroxy vitamin D, or 25(OH)D. You consume vitamin D in two forms: ergocalciferol (D2) and cholecalciferol (D3). However, even if you consume fortified foods like orange juice or milk, you'll fall woefully short of optimal cholecalciferol intake. Ergocalciferol comes from plants. Humans cannot convert it to cholecalciferol very well. Cholecalciferol comes from animals and is superior to ergocalciferol at improving vitamin D status. The best food sources include fatty fish, beef liver, and cod liver oil. Of course, food and supplementation aren't the only ways to raise 25(OH)D. Since the time of Adam and Eve, humans relied on sun exposure. In ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Babylon, and Persia, sunlight (heliotherapy) prevented and treated various medical conditions.Juzeniene A, et al. When the sun reaches your skin, the UVB rays stimulate the production of 25(OH)D. Of course, sunblock prevents this production. To benefit from the sun's rays, you need to live close to the equator and expose most of your skin to the mid-day sun for 20-30 minutes. That would give you about 10,000 IU, or 200 times the amount in a glass of fortified milk. Some practitioners believe exposing your private parts to the sun is the best way to get vitamin D to levels to rise. I have no personal experience, but if you have the right place to try nude sunbathing, go for it. A lack of sun exposure limits the amount of vitamin D in your body, but other factors reduce its production, as well. Liver and kidney dysfunctions compromise the conversion of cholecalciferol to active vitamin D. Also, certain medications like statins and plant compounds interfere with absorption. Cholesterol and vitamin D are absorbed in similar ways. Medications and plant compounds that interfere with cholesterol uptake also interfere with vitamin D absorption. Effects of Low Vitamin D Since vitamin D affects almost every body system, it's no surprise that low levels can lead to catastrophic consequences. The Flu The role of vitamin D in supporting your immune system cannot be understated. A British doctor named R. Edgar Hope-Simpson first connected low 25(OH)D to the flu. He observed that in both hemispheres, cases of the flu rise in late fall and early winter, which is the same time when levels drop from their summertime high. His observations were correct. In one study, supplementing with 2000 IU of cholecalciferol has been shown to lessen the occurrence of cold and flu symptoms. In another study published in 2010, children in Japan took 1200 IU of cholecalciferol or a placebo fr...
