November 15, 2023 - Season 14, Episode 49 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex and I get right to talking about the breaking news concerning Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson being shut down for the remainder of the 2023 season due to a shoulder injury. The Pittsburgh Steelers will play the Browns on Sunday in Cleveland so the Watson news will result in the Browns playing either Dorian Thompson-Robinson or P.J. Walker at quarterback. It sounds like the Browns' starter might be Thompson-Robinson, according to some breaking news during this show. The Steelers have made quite a few transactions since our last show, so Alex and I roll through recapping those moves. We talk about TE Pat Freiermuth potentially returning to action on Sunday and wonder if S Minkah Fitzpatrick might be able to return from his hamstring injury as well. We go over the few practice squad transactions made by the Steelers as well. Steelers HC Mike Tomlin held his weekly press conference on Tuesday and as usual, Alex and I go over the bigger talking points to come out of that media session. We discuss the Steelers situation at inside linebacker due to recent injuries based on what Tomlin said Tuesday. That means we talk a bit about ILB Elandon Roberts and ILB Mark Robinson quite a bit. We also talk extensively about what Tomlin said on Tuesday about QB Kenny Pickett and how he needs to see more out of him moving into the second half of the 2023 regular season. With the all-22 tape from the Steelers Week 10 win against the Green Bay Packers now fully digested, Alex and I discuss additional things we observed from that contest. We start on the offense and then move on to the defense and some special teams. Several other minor topics not noted are also discussed in this 85-minute episode, and we get to a several listener emails to close out the show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson is out for the reason due to a shoulder injury. Tim Donnelly says that not matter how bad things might go for the Carolina Panthers when it comes to QB Bryce Young, the trade to move up to No. 1 in the 2023 NFL Draft will never be as close to how bad the trade the Browns made with the Houston Texans to acquire Watson. Also, the latest with the Carolina Hurricanes, Duke football coach Mike Elko's odds of taking the Texas A&M football job, and more, in 'Hit It & Quit It.'
Rich comments on the snowballing criticism of Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson's availability status. SMAC CEE & Co-Founder Constance Schwartz-Morini joins Rich in-studio to discuss her longtime (and highly successful) business relationship with Deion Sanders and how she convinced him to go into coaching, how Coach Prime handles his many detractors who say his media presence detracts from his coaching responsibilities, what to expect from season 2 of Amazon Prime's ‘Coach Prime' and more. Charles Robinson and Charles McDonald kick things off by analyzing the latest reporting around the looming contract extension for Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow, who has indicated he may be willing to take a more team-friendly deal like Patrick Mahomes or Tom Brady. Burrow's comments are yet another sign that Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson's fully guaranteed contract was a complete outlier. They move on to discussing the new wave of investigations by the NFL into gambling policy violations. What needs to change about the current set of rules to ensure these violations don't continue? Next, the duo talk about the report that San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance has improved his throwing motion this offseason. Robinson points out that once these type of reports start coming out, it's usually a bad sign for the state of the quarterback's career.Later, Robinson and McDonald dive into second-year players who are primed for a breakout season, including Atlanta Falcons QB Desmond Ridder, Baltimore Ravens SAF Kyle Hamilton, Philadelphia Eagles DT Jordan Davis, New Orleans Saints CB Alontae Taylor and Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Rachaad White.1:40 - Joe Burrow has indicated he'd be open to taking less money to ensure his teammates like WRs Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins can stay in Cincinnati. Is it smart for quarterbacks to take less money than the market allows?17:10 - The NFL has reportedly launched a new round of investigations into violations of the gambling policy. Why is the NFL taking this so seriously? The duo discuss what the future of the NFL and gambling could look like.31:50 - Trey Lance has improved his throwing motion. A report like this coming out could actually be more of a negative sign than a positive one.38:15 - Second-year breakout candidates: can Desmond Ridder bring the most out of a Falcons offense that's loaded with young talent?45:00 - Kyle Hamilton is primed to continue his momentum from late last season and become a superstar safety in 2023.48:40 - Jordan Davis will play a key role in the Eagles defense this season alongside Jalen Carter and Fletcher Cox.51:10 - 2022 second-round pick Alontae Taylor flew under the radar last season but will look to improve on a fantastic rookie campaign across from Marshon Lattimore in New Orleans.54:05 - Rachaad White is the favorite to take over the bellcow role in Tampa Bay this season after a solid rookie year. Please support Terez Paylor's legacy:• Buy an All-Juice Team hoodie or tee from BreakingT.com/Terez. First he speaks with The Athletic's Arif Hasan about Miami's punishment & the league's casual dismissal of tanking games before diving into Arif's expertise: the Minnesota Vikings. They talk about the new blood atop the organization in rookie head coach Kevin O'Connell & new GM Kewsi Adofo-Mensah & Kirk Cousins' future with the team.Next, he speaks with Dallas Cowboys beat reporter Jori Epstein of USA Today. Charles & Jori talk about what could happen next with the NFL's upcoming decision whether or not to appeal Deshaun Watson's suspension, if the Cowboys' culture is strained by Jerry Jones' split roles in the organization & whether Dak Prescott was more injured than we thought last season. (34:25)Finally, Charles rings up Broncos insider Mike Klis of 9 News Denver to talk about the immediate fallout from Tim Patrick's ACL tear, the flood of new energy coming into the building with a new owner, QB, coach and GM all stepping into the organization within 18 months and why even a 10-win season from the Broncos could make them a scary team to play in January.
