Send us a textThis week's Season 13 4x4 entry is GOODBYE, DRAGON INN (2003), the third of four films curated by guest host Jack to represent the filmography of director Tsai Ming-liang. The original TPTGTU boys are reunited this ep with the return of host Thomas but divided in their appreciation for what is billed as Tsai Ming-liang's comedy-drama. As promised in last episode, this third film by the Taiwanese slow cinema director takes on a lighter tone than his previously discussed movies, a tone that at times even borders on, or some might and do argue achieves, comedy. It's a movie that allows the viewer to watch others watch a movie, to question the dimensions and positioning of moviegoers in this old Taiwanese movie theater showing its final film before closing, or to observe with mirth a Japanese tourist subtly cruise other males by switching seats and wandering the theater's halls and bathrooms, or to observe a woman with a limp bring her coworker a bun to eat after cleaning out urinals and stalls. For those who do not speak Mandarin and are uninterested in reading subtitles, good news! There are only about a dozen lines of dialogue, mostly at the end between one of the elderly actors who starred in the titular 1967 martial arts movie Dragon Inn and some other movie patron lingering in the theater lobby after the movie's final showing. Actor Lee Kang-sheng, a.k.a. Tsai Ming-liang's heterosexual muse, returns as the movie's film projectionist in a role with no lines but in one climatic (sarcasm) scene determines with the help of fortune teller machine whether he is a Cold Fish or a Casanova (for you Simpson's fans). Is this film a comedic experience playing off cinematic expectations garnered from Western films? An endurance test? An homage to earlier cinema? A reminder to all filmmakers to not show a better film in their film? Or some awkward chimera of the above? Listen as the hosts take up positions awkwardly close to each other for long periods of time with their wee-wees out. Unfortunately, the pod's best film critic ceded their seat at the table to Thomas back from his Western European tour. Elwood and Stephen look at Sion Sono's "Hate Trilogy" comprised of Love Exposure, Cold Fish and Guilty of Romance. Three films all memorable in thier own ways while covering everything from serial killers and cults to weird fetishes and of course Sono's trademark violence to make for one of the more unique viewing experiences on the show as we breakdown all three films.

The graphics team for Monday Night's game between the Saints and Seahawks was right on point when they showed Pete Carroll getting smacked with a barrage of cold fish. That's what it's feeling like to be a Seahawks fan with Russell Wilson out these past couple weeks. Getting into the nooks and crannies of this game, we talk about DK Metcalf doing what needed to be done to get the Seahawks off the 1-yard line, the play up front on the defensive line and some of the more infuriating micro moments from the Week 7 loss to the Saints. How to know if you are being too much of a cold fish with women you are dating so you can make sure you don't turn them off for being too cold, emotionally distant and uncaring. In this video coaching newsletter, I discuss an email from a viewer who writes in about a woman he thought he was doing everything right with. They kissed on the second date, and had sex on the third. Their schedules did not match up very well and they only ever got together on the weekends for dates. They went out on exactly nine dates. She did 90% of the calling, texting and pursuing. After spending the day together recently hiking, making dinner together and having great sex, he walked her to the train station. Once they got there she told him that she did not see them together long-term. He was shocked, especially after having such a good time together the whole day. She even texted him afterward to say they should not talk for a while, but that later on down the road he could call her and they could go hiking as friends only. He told her he would not be contacting her and left it at that. He asks my opinion on what I think happened. What you should do if you have been a cold fish to your woman, feel like you've lost her and now she is backing away and wants space. In this video coaching newsletter I discuss an email from a viewer who originally found my work after his friend with benefits of two years stuck him firmly in platonic friends zone. He admits he has only read my book five times so far and should have learned it better, but due to continued mistakes on his part, difficulty changing old behaviors and trying to force things, his now girlfriend is backing away once again, asking for space and even told him that she has been expecting him to break up with her for a while. He says he is having a hard time opening her up and getting her to feel close to him again since she has asked for space. It's a great email that illustrates how bad behavior; fears and making unnecessary mistakes can continue to plague a guys attempt to become more consistently successful with women.
