Tune in here to this Thursday's edition of Breaking With Brett Jensen! Breaking Brett Jensen kicks the show off by discussing two unusual but significant North Carolina Supreme Court cases—one involving chickens in a Waxhaw neighborhood and the other concerning Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS). In one case, a family argues their chickens are household pets, protected under HOA rules. The HOA disagrees, claiming the number of chickens exceeds what could reasonably be considered pets. The debate centers on how courts should interpret the ambiguous term “household pet,” with justices questioning whether such definitions should be left to juries or clarified by law. The case raises broader concerns about property rights and the power of homeowners associations. And in another case, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) is facing a lawsuit at the North Carolina State Supreme Court over its refusal to contribute to the 401(k) retirement plans of its school police officers. CMS is the only school district in the state that does not pay the required 5% into these retirement accounts, even as it continues to request millions more in funding each year from county commissioners. The CMS legal team faced tough questioning from justices, who challenged their interpretation of the law and lack of clarity on funding responsibilities. Also, Brett touches on the Carolina Panthers’ strategy heading into the NFL Draft with veteran beat writer Joe Person of The Athletic. Person expects the Panthers to focus on defense, predicting they may select Georgia linebacker Jalen Walker in the first round. Despite questions about Walker’s size as an edge rusher, the Panthers reportedly value his football instincts and versatility. Person also believes the team will likely target additional defensive positions, such as safety, in rounds two and three, given the current lack of depth on the roster. Finally, Jensen dives into Dylann Roof, the convicted Charleston church shooter, has filed an appeal seeking to have his death sentence overturned. Roof's legal team argues that there were significant errors during his trial that impacted his sentencing. They claim that Roof's mental health was not adequately considered, and they assert that his constitutional rights were violated in various ways. Liz was recently interviewed on a talk show, and a phrase that kept coming up was “finding joy.” When we're in a difficult situation and making hard decisions, we can get so caught up in the stress and anxiety of it all that we forget to find joy in our lives. In this episode, we're sharing how we find joy and freedom in difficult times, plus a catch-up on some of our recent travels, celebrity sightings, and more!   We recorded this episode prior to the devastation of Hurricane Helene in the Southeast, especially to our neighbors in WNC. Going through divorce or other major life change is always challenging. We've learned to aim for freedom, not from others, but within ourselves to be the best version we give to the world.  Before you immediately judge someone, take a beat and consider where they might be coming from, and where your feelings are coming from. What is triggering your fear? Is the other group actually hurting anyone? Be brave (but polite and respectful, of course!) and if you see a celebrity who you really admire, let them know how they impacted you. "What's the most amazing place you've ever seen?" We're asked this question so often we should print the answer on our t-shirts. We always respond with something impressive: "The Canadian Rockies," "Autumn in Vermont," "Yukon," "Denali," "The Outer Banks," "The Upper Peninsula," or "Canyonlands!" And, with all sincerity, any one (or every single one) of those responses is true. But, in the course of a passing conversation, it's way too blunt to surrender the most complete and truthful answer: "The most amazing place on Earth is ... right here, right now." If nature can explain the universe and our place in it, then Cane Creek Park served us well for our two week maximum stay. It's Tuesday, June 25th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus.  (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Muslims killing Christians in Russia and Nigeria Islam-related deaths have dominated the news over the weekend.  Suspected Jihadists attacked Russian Orthodox Churches and synagogues in two cities in Southern Russia, 75 miles apart from one another, killing at least twenty, reports ABC News.  In addition, last week, Fulani Muslims stormed a village in Kajuru County, Nigeria with AK-47s. As they shouted “Allahu Akbar” or “Allah is Greater,” they shot up a group of Christians who were conducting a prayer meeting for the community, killing five, reports International Christian Concern. 1,300 Muslims died during pilgrimage to Mecca And, just within the last week, over 1,300 Muslims have died of excessive heat on their pilgrimage to Mecca where temperatures have soared as high as 120 degrees Fahrenheit (50 degrees Celsius), according to the Associated Press.   One of the five pillars of Islam is the Hajj, a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage to Mecca. They hope it will help with forgiveness of their sins. But Ephesians 1:7 tells us that in Jesus “we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.” Argentina's food inflation drops from 211% to 0.1% Argentina reports the first week without food inflation in thirty years, and only 0.1% in fifteen days.  That's not bad for a nation that was looking at 211% inflation or 4% per week back in 2023. Argentina's new conservative president, Javier Milei, is wrapping up a visit to Europe, in which he referred to the government of Spain bringing "poverty and death" to  the country.  And, he told an audience that he is defeating the socialists with "the largest fiscal adjustment in the history of Argentina." Trump is angry that Biden has targeted pro-lifers Speaking to the Faith and Freedom Coalition's Road to Majority conference at the Washington Hilton over the weekend, presidential hopeful Donald Trump promised he would take care of the pro-life activists facing prison time “on the first day.”   Listen to Trump tell the story of Paula Harlo. TRUMP:  “In the Republican Party, we will always support families, babies, life. Very important to the Republican Party. “By contrast, Joe Biden is weaponizing the Justice Department to viciously persecute pro-life activists and Americans of faith. Just last month, the Biden DOJ got Paula Harlow, a 75-year-old woman in poor health, sentenced to two years in prison for singing outside of a [abortion] clinic. Fearing she would die in prison, her husband pleaded with the judge for mercy and even asked to be thrown in prison with his wife. The judge responded by mocking their religion. “Paula is one of many peaceful pro-lifers whom Joe Biden has rounded up, sometimes with SWAT teams, and thrown them in jail. Many people are in jail over this. This is just crazy. We're gonna get that taken care of immediately, first day. “But let's call these brave Americans what they really are. It's persecuted Christians. That's what they are. They're persecuted.” Franklin Graham to Trump: Stop cussing During another of his speeches over the weekend, the former president announced having received a letter from evangelist Franklin Graham, encouraging him to avoid foul language in his speeches. Trump said the evangelist is wrong on the matter. Trump justified an occasional use of foul language for emphasis, but then told the audience he has been “working hard on it.”  Ephesians 4:29 is for all of us: “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.”  Supreme Court to examine case banning puberty blockers for minors The U.S. Supreme Court agreed Monday to take up a case which challenges a Tennessee law banning artificial medical treatments for minors who want to change their God-given gender, reports CBS News. About half of the states have placed restrictions on such medical procedures. Biden's transgender plan blocked The flags are on the field on this one. Already, two U.S. district judges have blocked the Biden administration's plan to impose Title IX restrictions on public schools in America in an effort to transgender bathrooms and sports programs. So far, 26 states have joined seven lawsuits concerning the policy which is supposed to go into effect on August 1st. The Scriptures do speak to this moral issue. Deuteronomy 22:5 says, “A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman's garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the Lord your God.” Will women be drafted? The U.S. Senate has approved a measure that would include women in the military draft, reports The Hill.com. The provision is not contained in the House version of the National Defense Authorization Act before Congress.  And a spokesperson for House Speaker Mike Johnson told Fox News Digital that he is opposed to the inclusion of women in the draft. Presently, according to Pew Research, Israel, Eritrea, Mali, Morocco, North Korea, Tunisia, Mozambique, Norway, and Sweden include women in their selective service program. 2,750 pro-life pregnancy centers vs. 1,603 abortion mills Lifeway Research reports that 16% of Protestant churches support crisis pregnancy centers in the United States.  Baptist churches are three times more likely to provide financial support for the pro-life centers than Lutheran Churches. According to the data, 2,750 pro-life pregnancy centers provide $358 million of free services to women across the country each year, according to a Charlotte Lozier Institute report issued last December.  By contrast, as of 2020, there were 1,603 facilities conducting abortions in America.  Sadly, states are now spending over $200 million annually on abortion services, and the federal government is funding domestic abortion businesses to the tune of $390 million per year.  That's about the same amount of money donated each year by private charity to pro-life pregnancy centers. 21 Worldview listeners donated $4,140 And finally, toward our $84,000 final goal by 5:00pm central this Saturday, June 29, 21 Worldview listeners stepped up to the plate to help fund our 6-member team for another fiscal year. Twenty-three years and five graduates later, he hopes to share some of the lessons he's learned along the way to help other families enjoy the most successful, satisfying, and Christ-centered home school possible. His mission is to help homeschooling families learn, live, and defend the Christian faith. This is accomplished in part through his work as president of Apologia Educational Ministries, the #1 publisher of Creation-based science and Bible/worldview curriculum with more than eighty #1 awards for over twelve years in a row from homeschool organizations and media. Davis is passionate about his family. He married Rachael in 1986, and God has blessed them with seven children and two grandchildren. So far, five students have graduated from their home school. Of those, three are college graduates (two of whom are married), two are currently in college, and two are still at home. Davis and his family live in Waxhaw, North Carolina, where they enjoy the homeschooling adventure of a lifetime, complete with roller-coaster twists and turns and the occasional lazy river ride. Davis isn't a perfect husband or father, but he loves being with his wife throughout the day and immediately available to handle disciplinary and training matters or to experience an extraordinary Deuteronomy 6 moment in the course of an ordinary day. He has been honored to speak in over thirty states and seven countries as an advocate for home education. Additionally, he served twelve years on the board of North Carolinians for Home Education (NCHE) and nine years as the North Carolina Ambassador for the Home School Foundation. He is also a founding board member of Homeschool Now USA. Davis is the author of five illustrated children's books designed to instill a biblical worldview. Good Morning, God is based on Deuteronomy 6, A Light for My Path is an ABC book based on Psalm 119, In the Beginning is based on the Creation account in Genesis, Psalms to Know Early, is based on…you guessed it…Psalms, and his latest: Truths to Know Early. I first met Diana Stuhr on a missionary trip with Practical Missionary Training. It was love and laughing at first sight. Diana has served with World Vision, Central American Mission and has worked with Wycliffe Bible Translators for the last 34 years. Currently, semi-retired in Waxhaw, NC, Diana oversees the events for seniors and she was born for it! Always with a good word of encouragment and a ready laugh, Diana's legacy is evident to all: to be a woman known for loving Jesus, talking about Him as a matter of course in the "dailies of life."  What a great reminder to pray to God to open our eyes to how He works in and around us. And to be ready to talk about it out loud to anyone who may be listening.  You will love Diana! I sure do. Sign up for her weekly email here: Monday Memories: diana_stuhr@wycliffe.org   Diana writes a weekly email with many of her "parables" as well as some of her photography. Here's a sampling: Occasionally,  I encounter someone spectacularly rude, astonishingly so. I encountered someone like that this week at the synagogue (Luke 13:10-17) Jesus was teaching and sitting just a few rows away from me was a bent over and crippled woman. I wondered how Jesus came to be at the podium (perhaps the synagogue leader had invited Him to speak), when suddenly He called out to the crippled woman. He invited her to come forward. You could have heard a pin drop in the seconds it took her to rise to her feet and the minutes it took her to shuffle forward. I was embarrassed for her. She reached Him and He simply said to her, "Woman, you are set free from your infirmity."  There should have been laughter and clapping, but rudeness but a squelch to that straightaway as the synagogue leader rose up indignant and instead of speaking to Jesus who stirred his ire, he spoke to us. He scolded us as if we were the ones who caused the stir. He accused Jesus of breaking the law without speaking directly to Him. Rude, indeed.  Stunned everyone was just trying to take it all in, when Jesus spoke directly back to the synagogue leaders. He called them hypocrites. In essence, He humiliated them. He had the last word, too, as far as I know.  It just goes to show, you never know what might happen at church.  I left assured:  Jesus cares about those in bondage whatever form it takes and regardless of who it is.  Jesus has power over all bondages and with just a word He can bring healing.  Jesus invites, but waits for those He's invited to come.  Sometimes laws are meant to be "broken" because a higher law prevails (ie compassion and kindness). I also left with some questions:  What constitutes work?  Why did this woman have to suffer for 18 years?  The woman came forward without knowing what Jesus would do. Could I have been brave enough to do what she did?  Shame is a powerful emotion. In essence the synagogue leader, while being rude to Jesus, was also shaming the woman. He was substituting the shame of her affliction with the shame of her healing, which had no basis in reality. How does one battle that kind of shame successfully? On the other hand, Jesus shamed the synagogue leaders, but their shame was based in reality. How does one battle that successfully? By repenting.  Sign up for her weekly email here: Monday Memories: diana_stuhr@wycliffe.org

Hello everyone and happy new year! Here's hoping 2022 is a great year for us all! This is Motos and Friends – a weekly podcast brought to you by the editorial team at Ultimate Motorcycling and sponsored by Suzuki motorcycles USA. Are you ready for the revolutionary new 2022 Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle?! Check out the details of the ultimate ride, at suzukicycles.com. This week, our contributor Laura Fitzpatrick gives us her impressions of the new Triumph Tiger 660. Laura left her cold and rainy home in Dublin, Ireland for the sunny skies and balmy temperatures of Faro, Portugal to ride the exciting new middleweight. The Tiger 660 uses the company's excellent new three-cylinder engine slotted into an ADV package, and it seems Laura really liked not just Portugal, but the Triumph Tiger as well. In this next segment, Editor-at-Large, Neale Bayly, chats with Mike Holliday, owner of the Crossroads Coffee Shop in Waxhaw, North Carolina. Neale lives locally to Mike and visits Crossroads Coffee almost daily, although for some odd quirk of the universe Neale and Mike were somehow never in the shop at the same time, and so never met.  However, when it actually happened, Neale was blown away to discover that Mike was not just a fellow motorcyclist, but that they'd traveled much the same path on trips across South America. Small world eh??  So Mike and Neale get to reminisce about some of their equally crazy travel stories, and give us an insight into what it's like to REALLY travel on two wheels. 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 Test in Portugal: A Personal Experience

This is a great conversation about fear, gratitude, encouragement and the transitions of life. Ed Williams grew up in poverty, raised by a single father and barely graduated high school. Now, he works with students to help them prepare for the transitions of life. As I am sure you imagine, there were lots of twists and turns along the way. Ed started his life on the beaches of Florida and life took him out west, where he lived in Colorado for a few years with his wife. Ed has worked as a teacher for middle schoolers, and eventually decided to head to beautiful WaxHAW, NC to be closer with family. Over the past few years, Ed began to serve within the local youth group at his church. He was eventually approached about working for the ministry and he became the Student Pastor. He continues to grow in that calling, and has a special gift for working with young people. In this episode, we also get to hear about Ed and his family's decision to make an 8-week trip across the country, allowing his daughters to choose the places they would like to see along the way. This traveling family converted a van into a mini-camper and hit the road from NC, to FL, then all the way out to the West Coast, with lots of interesting stops along the way. If you love the outdoors and feel-good messages of victory over adversity, you will love this conversation! Ed is doing some amazing things with our youth, and we are glad he stopped by to share his story with our listeners. We hope you enjoy this episode and make sure to share it with a friend or fellow traveler.   Tune in every Wednesday at 7:00 am, wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts. • Instagram: @skinnyedwilliams @sfsclt @charlottelatinlaunch LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/ed-williams-933970124

We are back and better than ever! Well...we're definitely back; 'better' is entirely a matter of opinion. I mean, when Dru is actively defending a non-conspiracy, there has to be something out of place. Amiright? Join us as we go right to the core of our nation's biggest issues: our tactful way of dealing with minority groups throughout history, where Andrew Jackson was actually born, the existence of that mythical creature: a politician who is actually a human being, and the most adult way to do Halloween: with discount candy on November 1st. We discover the origins of UNC, how Harry Houdini really died, and what may be the world's longest epitaph.
