This isn't another hype-filled tech episode or a doomsday warning about robots taking over. It's a grounded, human conversation about what we lose when we hand over too much to AI—and how to hold onto what matters most. In this episode, author and technologist Faisal Hoque blends decades of innovation experience with Eastern philosophy to explore something few are talking about: how convenience-driven tech use may be eroding our freedom, critical thinking, and even relationships. You'll walk away with a clearer understanding of what AI can't replace—like personal struggle, creativity, ethics, and meaning—and why those things are essential to being fully human. If you've ever felt uneasy about how much thinking you're outsourcing to machines, or wondered what the real cost of "efficiency" might be, this episode will resonate. It's not about fearing the future—it's about choosing who you want to be in it. Faisal's book, Transcend: Unlocking Humanity in the Age of AI, is available now! Reinvent: Navigating Business Transformation in a Hyperdigital Era by Faisal Hoque https://amzn.to/3NTeIrr The Journey to Organizational Transformation Given the rate of change that we have experienced and will continue to see in the world, it's a challenge trying to stay on top of everything. Organizations must consider revising and possibly scrapping decades-old habits, processes, and their very ways of thinking and operating. In so doing, organizations can literally reinvent themselves. Transformation requires much more than simply obtaining the latest technology, plugging it in, and sitting back to watch reinvention take place. From top to bottom, organizations will be compelled to change entire mindsets, attitudes, and assumptions about how they operate, how they can grow, and even the very reason for their existence. This book introduces readers to ideas, concepts, and a comprehensive framework (LIFTS) that they can use to better position themselves and their organizations to reap the greatest number of benefits that business and digital transformation can afford. It's a journey rich with promise that explains complex concepts in an understandable common language. The book is divided into three distinct sections. The First section, "Why? The Case for Business Transformation in a Hyper-Digital Era," makes the argument for organizational reinvention—from the changing nature of consumers to shifting workforce priorities to the necessity for greater organizational security. The second section, "Transformation via Digitalization—Necessary Steps," examines actions necessary to prepare for transformation, including overcoming significant obstacles, recognizing the essential value of leadership, and forecasting what your organization is likely to become in the future. The final section, "What to Do: Navigating with LIFTS," offers a comprehensive discussion of a five-step process geared to guiding your company through its transformation. Using the acronym LIFTS — learn, investigate, formulate, take off, and study—you'll learn what goes into a successful transformative effort, including elements that, if overlooked, can sink otherwise solid planning. REINVENT is the result of the author's personal and professional journey — one that is made possible by three decades of work with colleagues, customers, partners, academics, and industry experts from around the globe. He is a 3-time award-winning Founder and CEO of Deloitte Technology Fast 50 and Deloitte Technology Fast 500™. What sets Faisal apart is the unique position and perspective he has always maintained, which is grounded in hardcore technology with deep roots in leading-edge management science. As he's grown through his career, he realized that the real challenge is to connect with people and lead them with influence and inspiration. Although technology has a role, especially with automation and giving accurate information, it's not only about the data that allow you to make better decisions but automates a lot of money. The things we don't want to do and technology can do better, but the aspect of creativity and mobilization of a workforce inspires people to do the next big thing. Which all comes down to humanity. As a technologist, there's a moral role in what should be pushed out there and consumed, and what's harmful or impactful. As a leader, you have the opportunity and the responsibility to drive people to do their best, and that's where the notion of mindfulness and empathy comes in. Empathy and mindfulness don't only apply on a personal level, it has huge implications for an organization and outside of an organization as a whole. It allows you to understand the situation of the collective community in terms of what they need, what issues they're dealing with, and how they're going to react to a particular situation. Command, control, and toxic leadership don't work for a long-term directive. Sooner or later, it will all fall apart. When looking at successful brands, you get the feeling of a personal connection they have with each of the customers they serve, whether that's B2B or B2C. When companies want to get their processes in line and improve their external image, as well as their morale inside. Faisal guides them with fundamental caution, starting with who they are, what they're trying to become, and what their purpose is. It needs to start with understanding who you are today, who you want to be tomorrow, and how you move forward, and that comes from knowing the current and defining the future state. Designing a set of processes that allows you to get there and aligning everybody around that notion of Why What and How.In this episode:[01:23] Faisal shares his intersection of humanity, science, and technology. Starting out as a technologist, building products and companies around technology. The challenge is connecting with people and leading, influencing, and inspiring them.[3:00] Implementing AI into our content writing and management skills.Technology's role is automation and giving accurate information for better decisions. As a technologist, there's a moral role in what should be pushed and what's harmful and impactful. The beginning of a new year is always an exciting time because of what it represents – a chance for new beginnings, to start something new, and build on successes gained over the past year. For my podcast, “Leadership Biz Cafe”, it also means the start of another season of speaking with people with fascinating insights and perspectives on the challenges of leadership today. But before looking ahead to who and what I'll be talking about in upcoming episodes of my leadership podcast, I wanted to look back at the past 12 months and share my five favourite guest moments and insights from 2022. Now this isn't one of those Top 5 list that we usually see around this time of the year. Instead, these are moments from the many conversations I had over the course of last year that really stuck with me and I think deserve a second listen, especially in light of various on-going debates and issues around leading today's organizations. Although I'm going to leave it to you to listen to this episode to hear what these favourite moments were, I do want to give a shout-out here to those guests who provided these fascinating insights – Tom Peters and Jim Kouzes, Stephen MR Covey, Dr. Marlette Jackson, Laura Kriska, and Faisal Hoque. And as I mention at the end of this episode, I'd love to hear what were your favourite moments from my podcast episodes of 2022. What stood out for you or maybe had you rethink your understanding of what a leader needs to do? Let me know as I appreciate hearing from my listeners about what resonated with them and why. https://open.spotify.com/episode/2fLO2yCfToni8i2EAkRIDx Noteworthy links: #109 - Tom Peters & Jim Kouzes On Today's Challenges And The Future Of Leadership #105 - Stephen MR Covey | How To Trust And Inspire Others To Unleash Their Greatness #101 - Dr. Marlette Jackson | Addressing Diversity And Inclusion In Today's Workplaces #113 - Laura Kriska | How Leaders Close The Us Versus Them Gap In The Workplace #119 - Faisal Hoque | How To Lead Through Revolutionary Global Change

There's no question we're living through a period of unprecedented change and uncertainty. But is this period of uncertainty something to dread, or does it present an opportunity to transform the way we lead to achieve enduring growth and success? My guest for this episode of “Leadership Biz Cafe”, Faisal Hoque, certainly sees the latter as being true and he presents a compelling case for why the rest of us should, too. Faisal Hoque is an accomplished entrepreneur, author, thought leader, and advisor to management teams and boards with more than 25 years of cross-industry success. He has successfully founded numerous companies, his latest being SHADOKA and NextChapter, where they focus on enabling sustainable and transformational changes. Faisal has worked with many private sector giants including GE, MasterCard, American Express, PepsiCo, IBM, Home Depot, Gartner, JP Morgan Chase, and others. His work has appeared in Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Business Insider and Huffington Post among other publications. In this episode, Faisal and I discuss his best-selling book, “Lift – Fostering the Leader in You Amid Revolutionary Global Change”, which leads us to discuss the impacts of not just the COVID-19 pandemic and the on-going debate around Quiet Quitting, the Great Resignation, and the future of remote work, but of also how climate change and the spread of misinformation into numerous facets of society present unique challenges today's leaders need to be ready to meet head-on. It's a thoughtful and at times very personal, conversation between Faisal and me. And definitely one that will not only have you rethinking your outlook on these pressing issues, but it will also encourage you to embrace the opportunities for improvement and being the kind of leader that brings out the best in those they lead. https://open.spotify.com/episode/06dEN5DJgUkH1c9WJBE82Y Noteworthy links: Buy Faisal's book “Lift” on Amazon* Learn more about Faisal's work on his website: faisalhoque.com *sponsored link that helps to support this podcast. When mindfulness, creativity, and innovation come together, the result is powerful leadership and impactful inventions that can change the world.   Faisal Hoque is the founder of SHADOKA, NextChapter, and other companies that focus on enabling sustainable and transformational changes. Throughout his career, he has developed over 20 commercial business and technology platforms and worked with public and private sector giants.   His bestselling book, Everything Connects: Cultivating Mindfulness, Creativity, & Innovation for Long-Term Value (Fast Company), is currently #2 on Wall Street Journal and USA Today.   Faisal grew up in Bangladesh and his world travel has inspired him to write several books with a focus on individual and organizational leadership, creating long-term value, and resilience.   Deep, daily mindfulness about our intentions and actions is essential. Faisal highlights the example of Leonardo DaVinci — he was constantly striving to determine who he was as an artist, sculptor, engineer, and entrepreneur, and then apply it to his real life. Mindfulness about your value-add is absolutely essential as you work to make meaningful contributions in the world.   Generically, mindfulness applies to awareness of where our mind lands, but more specifically it applies to our self-awareness and acting intentionally rather than merely in reaction to external forces. Mindfulness impacts not only you but every relationship you are in.   Faisal calls empathy the foundation of transformational leadership. Leaders are self-aware, they are influential, and they are looking for ways to recognize and utilize the talents of others. Without effective mindfulness of the self, leaders can't expect to be effective in leading or inspiring others.   Interview Links: Faisal Hoque   Resources: 20,000 Scaleups Scaling Up Summits (Select Bill Gallagher as your coach during registration for a discount.) How do leaders, innovators, and successful entrepreneurs practice resilience?  How does resilience help to create success (and how do we even define success)?  My guest on this week's episode is best-selling author, CEO, management expert and technology entrepreneur Faisal Hoque.  Faisal currently runs a company called Shadoka and is a regular contributor for Fast Company.  Faisal has a very interesting background.  He moved from Bangladesh to the USA when he was 17 and by the age of 22, started his own company and was on the way to achieve tremendous success.  However, he eventually had to deal with tremendous adversity and that's when he started to make a number of changes in his life and approach.  We get into all of that, and much more.  We discuss: •Entrepreneurship •Resilience •Mindfulness •Meditation •Life paths and trajectories •Emotional intelligence and systemic thinking •Success •Risk and living in uncertainty •Overcoming adversity And much more!
