What if the challenges of military medicine could transform not only your career but also your entire perspective on life? Join us as we sit down with Lieutenant Colonel Tim Woods, a seasoned Air Force Trauma Surgeon, who shares his incredible journey from training in surgery in the military, transitioning to civilian practice, and then back into the heart of military service. Inspired by his father's Air Force legacy, Tim discusses overcoming initial setbacks to become a pivotal figure in historic moments like the aftermath of 9/11 and the War on Terror. His experiences at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) offer a gripping narrative of resilience and adaptability, underscoring the intense demands placed on medical professionals in times of conflict. At LRMC in Germany, a small-town facility turned major trauma center, he navigated the complexities of wartime injuries and critical care air transport missions. From harrowing flights into combat zones to the emotional burden of ensuring safe returns, his stories highlight these years' profound personal and professional toll. Yet, amid the chaos, personal milestones like the birth of his twins offered moments of hope and grounding, blending the personal with the professional in unexpected ways. The conversation evolves to explore Tim's enduring legacy in military and civilian healthcare. We delve into his role in Missouri's C-STARS program, where military expertise fuels advancements in civilian trauma care. As we reflect on Tim's remarkable journey, this episode serves as a powerful testament to the resilience, dedication, and impact of those who serve on the front lines of military medicine. One century ago on Memorial Day — Friday, May 30, 1924 — the campus community gathered to dedicate a permanent landmark honoring former Notre Dame students who had died in or as a result of the Great War. Today, the east entrance of the Basilica has the familiar phrase “God, Country, Notre Dame” engraved above the oaken double doors and is known affectionately as the World War I Memorial Door. Celebrate the spirit of this special anniversary as we honor and remember members of our Notre Dame family who gave their lives. We are mindful of the ways the simple phrase “God, Country, Notre Dame” has become a rallying cry, and how the World War I Memorial Door has become an iconic place of pilgrimage and a symbol of faith, patriotism, and loyalty to all who love Notre Dame. Our speaker lineup is a shining example of the “God, Country, Notre Dame” ethos – just like Fr. Kim and Producer Steve are joined in studio by Liberty Toastmaster member Christie Whaley and founder of Patriotic Bible Study Chris Tubbs. This Thanksgiving week the four are grateful for living in America, the wisdom of our Founding Fathers, and our Divine Provider. God is with us. We have a civic duty to preserve liberty as the American Idea is very unique. Colonial Americans read the Bible on a daily basis, including the children, and they knew how to live because of the Bible; very different from today. The beauty of America is that “We the People” make the decisions on who represents us versus governed by a king, a dictator, a czar, a sultan, a chief, etc… Christie reads Giving Thanks to the Invisible Hand written by Jeff Jacoby in 2003. It begins, “GRATITUDE TO THE ALMIGHTY is the theme of Thanksgiving, and has been ever since the Pilgrims of Plymouth brought in their first good harvest.” Danielle Green with Kirsch Insurance Group, Medicare Insurance specialists, reminds listeners that December 7th is the last day for the 2022 Medicare Open Enrollment as there will be no changes allowed after that date. The advantage of working with Kirsch Insurance Group is their proprietary software that assesses prescription drug coverage with a variety of insurance carriers. Many Kirsch Insurance Group clients have saved substantial amounts of money as Kirsch Insurance Group helps you choose the plan that works best for you. Kim, Christie and Chris continue their conversation regarding the “invisible hand.” Politicians, Bureaucrats and Interested Parties (PBIs) has overreached their power and authority in their response to the COVID-19/Wuhan-China virus. Less than 1% of COVID reported cases have died of COVID. More than 99% of those reported with COVID survive. PBIs are intentionally stripping the rights of the people and “We the People” must put the government back in its limited boundaries, having less power than the individual. History shows that people flourish under Capitalism. Under “statism” people lose their spirit and react to the whims of the government by retracking. Capitalism can cure almost any issue, including racism. Christie shares the example that in today's service industry you need both a diverse workforce and clientele. Christie concludes that the truth is found in God and she is grateful to our Founding Fathers. Chris states that we must trust God and love our fellow man. Chris can be reached at thechristubbs@gmail.com or on social media with the handle thechristubbs.
(This episode originally aired on February 13, 2020) In this episode we sit down with Danielle Green of Radically Curly to talk about the Hair Love book, the recent Oscar win for the Hair Love animated short film, and the CROWN Act. It is currently LEGAL in all but three states (now 14 as of this encore episode) in the US to discriminate against Black people who wear natural, protective and braided hairstyles both in schools and in the workplace. This is racism. Period. Danielle shares her experience as a hairstylist, educator and leader in the movement of not only embracing natural hair texture but falling in love with the hair you were born with. After you listen to this episode, we invite you to join us in signing the petition to get the CROWN Act in all 50 states. About Radically Curly from Danielle Green VIA Radically Curly's website: Radically Curly was initially created to help heal generations of wounds caused by shame and abuse of natural hair. I understood that naturally curly hair wasn't taught in beauty school and that fueled the fire under my feet to make a change in the beauty industry. It wasn't easy. I saw the problem decades ago and knew that people that looked like me and had hair like mine were not getting the same treatment in the chair as someone who had straight hair. I made it my mission to change that narrative. I wanted people with curly hair to feel welcomed and empowered from the moment they arrive until they leave. Radically Curly became the first salon in Las Vegas to specialize in curly hair. People travel from around the world for our services and we are forever grateful. How do you know that you're on the right track when performing research? To answer that question, I talked about the subtle art of research rigor with DJ Green, research manager at Jane. In this episode, we take a deep dive into her process of translating research insights into actionable steps that product managers and designers can use to execute great work. If you're struggling to influence product strategy with your research work, this episode is for you. On the other hand, if you're looking for a 10 step process to better automate product discovery, then look somewhere else. At the end of the day, research is just structured critical thinking and like any other skill set, is something that needs to be practiced to get better at. DJ provides invaluable insights into some of the most asked questions in the research rigor debates that we're currently having in the product community. So pay attention. She is super generous with her expertise in this interview. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thewayofproductdesign/message
In this episode we sit down with Danielle Green of Radically Curly to talk about the Hair Love book, the recent Oscar win for the Hair Love animated short film, and the CROWN Act. It is currently LEGAL in all but three states in the US to discriminate against black people who wear natural, protective and braided hairstyles both in schools and in the workplace. This is racism. Period. Danielle shares her experience as a hairstylist, educator and leader in the movement of not only embracing natural hair texture but falling in love with the hair you were born with. After you listen to this episode, we invite you to join us in signing the petition to get the CROWN Act in all 50 states. Visit bit.ly/CROWNAct to be part of the solution and end this form of discrimination. You can find Danielle on the web @radicallycurly and radicallycurlysalon.com Thank you Danielle for sharing your heart, wisdom and passion with us. We LOVE you.
