"Masters Of The Air" premiered on Apple TV+ at the beginning of the year, earning strong reviews for its storytelling, performances, and incredible craftsmanship, rightfully earning its place alongside the legendary WWII miniseries "Band of Brothers" (2001) and "The Pacific" (2010). Based on the 2007 book by Donald L. Miller, the show follows the actions of the 100th Bomb Group, a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bomber unit in the Eighth Air Force in eastern England during World War II. Actor Callum Turner, who plays Major John "Bucky" Egan, Visual Effects Supervisor Xavier Matia Bernasconi, and Virtual Production Executive Steve Jelly were all kind enough to spend some time talking with us about their work on the show. Please be sure to check out the limited series, which is available to stream in full on Apple TV+ and is up for your consideration in all Emmy categories. Thank you, and enjoy! In this special episode of the Market and Distirbution Pdcast, we tap into our Reimagine the Ecosystem series, the series of discussions with leaders on the future of the industry. In this particular session, we addressed the fast evolving field of distribution itself, with Avril Speaks (Distribution Advocates) and Angel Studios' Brandon Purdie. With the distribution landscape having changed so much in recent years, how are studios, creators and labels approaching the market differently? What kind of new mechanisms and strategies are working particularly well and what is now less effective. But beyond tactics and techniques, is there a completely different way to approach distribution now? How can we begin the distribution process earlier, make it less risky and more data-driven? Is it possible to change the way distribution decisions are made – can we reimagine this vital part of the ecosystem? Our panelists; innovators and pioneers from different territories and perspectives, will be sharing their ideas, experiences and perspectives in how they are are approaching distribution in transformative new ways. Avril Speaks Avril Speaks is an award-winning Producer, Director and Showrunner based in Los Angeles. She has produced several award-winning films including Jinn, Dotty & Soul, and the South African film African America, which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award, four African Movie Academy Awards and streamed on Netflix. Most recently, Avril was the Showrunner for the docu-series Uprooted: The Untold Keith Warren Story, which is available on Discovery+ and was an Executive Producer for Files of the Unexplained, coming soon to Netflix. Currently, Avril is a Creative and Production Executive at Vox Media Studios. Avril was a 2020 Sundance Momentum Fellow, and a 2022 recipient of the Dear Producer Award. She is also a co-founding member of Distribution Advocates and is part of the Executive Committee for the newly formed Producer's Union. Brandon Purdie Since childhood, Brandon Purdie has been obsessed with bringing inspiring films to captive audiences. After moving up from tearing tickets and sweeping floors at his local theater to managing a regional theater chain, Purdie immersed himself in box office numbers, concession margins, team management, and the cinematic experience. This blossomed into a career at the indie distributor Excel Entertainment, moving from Marketing Director to overseeing the marketing and release of dozens of projects a year in theaters and on DVD. Shortly after, he founded Purdie Distribution, advising filmmakers on how to make and sell their films. In 2023, Angel Studios enlisted Purdie to launch their theatrical division, and out of the gate Purdie and his team beat the odds. The first theatrical release, HIS ONLY SON, a film that was made for only $250,000 grossed over $12M in domestic box office. This was followed by the global blockbuster SOUND OF FREEDOM (Jim Caviezel, Mira Sorvino) that grossed over $183M domestically since its July 4 release, and continues to launch in new markets internationally and boasts a worldwide gross of over $230M. Upcoming Angel theatrical titles include AFTER DEATH (Oct 27, 2023), THE SHIFT (Dec 1, 2023), and CABRINI (March 8, 2024). Purdie is also a proud member of the Executive Board of Directors for the Zions Indie Film Festival.

In the 1970s information flowed at a snail's pace, a BOLO (Be-On-The-Lookout) did not reach the intended audience for hours or days. An international watchlist was nothing compared to what we have today. Joseph's assassin slipped away without a trace. IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Voice Actor Rob Paulsen We're pleased to ring in our 50th episode with a man who has given voice to some of the most popular and timeless animated characters of our generation. Rob Paulsen was born in Detroit, MI, and at an early age, fell in love with the talents of comedians like Pat Paulsen, Foster Brooks, Red Skelton, Carol Burnett, Jonathan Winters, Peter Sellers, and the cast of Monty Python. His first role as an entertainer was as a singer, which trained his ear, eye, and voice to work together in a wide array of styles. Rob hit LA in the 1970's intending to be a live action actor but quickly fell under the spell of the Groundlings, the legendary Los Angeles' comedy/improv troupe, where he befriended and worked with Phil Hartman, Paul Reubens, Lynne Marie Stewart, John Paragon, Cassandra Peterson, and Laraine Newman. His skills honed, he landed his first voice gig on “GI Joe” which opened the door to Hanna-Barbera and veteran director Gordon Hunt, who cast Rob as one of Rob favorite characters from boyhood, Hadji, in a revival of the classic series “Jonny Quest.” That early success came right at the advent of the cable revolution and the millennial baby boom, and a sudden demand for family-oriented programming that would enchant young viewers as well as their parents. Disney, Warner Brothers, and Hanna-Barbera all started reviving old series and creating new ones, while networks like Nickelodeon and other syndication outlets began demanding more original daytime programming and Rob and his colleagues were part of it all. Rob is best known for bringing life to beloved characters like Yakko on “Animaniacs”, Raphael on “TMNT”, Pinky and Dr. Scratchansniff on “Pinky and the Brain”, Carl Wheezer on “The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius”, and many, many more throughout a career spanning five decades. After fighting a successful battle with throat cancer in 2016, a story detailed in his 2019 memoir “Voice Lessons”, Rob is back and busier than ever and still one of the hardest working, most in-demand, and beloved voice artists in the industry. In 2020 he reprised his role as Yakko in a reboot of “Animaniacs” on Hulu and has set new dates for his live show, “Animaniacs In Concert!”, performed with live music in symphony halls and theatres around the country. He is an outspoken advocate for people battling cancer and frequently makes time to bring joy and comfort to fans of all ages, all over the world. Rob joined us from his home in San Simeon, CA. Stewart was our guest at the 2021 Seattle Film Summit and is a Co-Executive Producer, Line Producer, Unit Production Manager and Production Executive who has worked on projects with Netflix, Sony Pictures Television, Warner Brothers, Amazon, Starz, Apple, HBO, FX, AMC (including a little show called Breaking Bad!)
Ted Andre is an award-winning Producer and Production Executive, who has successfully developed and produced cutting-edge, critically acclaimed independent content for theatrical, television, and streaming platforms. He is also Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Black Market Entertainment, LLC (BME). His creative background has a solid foundation in both filmmaking and music. Ted was born in Germany to a military Special Ops family, which meant constantly moving to different countries. This nomadic lifestyle led to an appreciation for a wide range of cultures and history, and an obsession with the creative spirit of the stories told through film, music, and graphic novels. My father was part of an elite special ops unit called MACV-SOG. One of their primary objectives was to rescue our troops from prison camps in Vietnam. Just prior to his passing, one of my dad's last requests was for me to look into the mysterious death of one of his closest friends – Israeli air attaché Joe Alon. During our final conversation, he provided some key information on the matter. https://www.bluebloodfilms.com/team Fred Burton is a former police officer, special agent, and New York Times best-selling author. He's served on the front lines of high-profile investigations like the hunt for and arrest of Ramzi Yousef, the mastermind behind the first World Trade Center bombing; the 1988 plane crash of PAK-1 that killed U.S. Ambassador Arnold Raphel and Pakistani President Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq; and the search for Americans kidnapped by Hezbollah in Beirut, Lebanon. His best-selling books include his personal memoir GHOST: Confessions of a Counterterrorism Agent, Chasing Shadows: A Special Agent's Lifelong Hunt to Bring a Cold War Assassin to Justice, Under Fire: The Untold Story of the Attack in Benghazi, and his fourth book, Beirut Rules: The Murder of a CIA Station Chief and Hezbollah's War Against America. Beirut Rules was optioned by Sony, and Chasing Shadows continues to generate interest and awareness by way of several recent interviews with Fred Burton. https://www.officialfredburton.com/ Our CHASING SHADOWS feature project is a timely story rooted in the bestselling book, which explores this fascinating high-profile unsolved case from the 1970s. When author Fred Burton and I connected via social media, we began to uncover new details based on handwritten journals my father kept, and have now brought the story into the present day by way of this deeply personal connection.” – Ted Andre Book Synopsis: On a warm Saturday night in July 1973 in Bethesda, Maryland, a gunman stepped out from behind a tree and fired five point-blank shots into Joe Alon, an unassuming Israeli Air Force pilot, and family man. Alon's sixteen-year-old neighbor, Fred Burton, was deeply shocked by this crime that rocked his sleepy suburban neighborhood. As it turned out, Alon wasn't just a pilot – he was a high-ranking military official with intelligence ties. The assassin was never found and the case was closed. In 2007, Fred Burton – who had since become a State Department counterterrorism special agent – reopened the case. In Chasing Shadows, Burton spins a gripping tale of the secret agents, double-dealings, terrorists, and heroes he encounters as he chases leads around the globe in an effort to solve this decades-old murder. From swirling dogfights over Egypt and Hanoi to gun battles on the streets of Beirut, this action-packed thriller looks into the dark heart of the Cold War to show how power is used, misused, and sold to the most convenient bidder. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/richard-lamonica/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/richard-lamonica/support

Rebecca Snow and Steve Gamester and Face2Face host David Peck talk about their new film Cheating Hitler: Surviving The Holocaust, survivors guilt, meaningful history and the power of memory, pivotal moments in personal stories and why we never should forget. Trailer You can watch the film here. Synopsis: Rose, Maxwell and Helen were 10, 9 and 7 years old when the Second World War began. Robbed of their childhood, they were old before they were young. They endured the terror of forced labour, killing squads and concentration camps. After the war, they discovered their families had been decimated, that their homes were reduced to rubble, and their possessions lost or stolen. Now, 75 years after the war ended, these three survivors are looking for answers to deeply personal questions they’ve carried with them their entire lives. Cheating Hitler is a modern-day investigation into lingering mysteries from the Holocaust. Three survivors and family members travel to Poland, Ukraine, and Lithuania exploring some of the hidden and rarely visited sites where the Holocaust occurred. They consult with historians, genealogists and forensic experts and uncover new life-changing information. Children have always been central to the story of the Holocaust. The most recognized victim, Anne Frank, was a child. And yet, for decades, the testimony of most child survivors was overlooked. Some felt overshadowed by the experiences of their elders, too traumatized to share their memories, or felt guilt for surviving and living long lives. This film focuses entirely on the unique experiences of children survivors, now in their final years, and often telling stories and revealing secrets on camera for the first time. Their testimony provides a powerful warning from history and a last chance to solve lingering mysteries. Cheating Hitler is about one of the darkest chapters of human history, but what shines through are stories of resilience, bravery and survival.
