We start the show be discussing being the last band to record in Colin Marston studio in NYC, getting the album recorded in 5 days this time around, how they got involvement from Dave Lombardo and Tomas Haake on the album, the influence of early cigarette advertisement on the albums artwork, his thought on the modern day protocols when people “bum a cigarette”, traveling really being important to knowledge of people and there lives, the touring memories that stick after doing for over a decade, and the creative impact that the bands choices of “cover songs” as singles the last few years had. Petar and Brandon discuss Mastodon finally moving on with Brent Hinds after 25 years, us both being shocked that it didn't happen sooner, our hopes that no mud slinging will occur in the future. We also discuss Courtney LaPlante pinpoint the perfect production that does affect current metal core records, Ghost unveiling a billboard in front of a church on the Vegas strip, and him letting fans know that there cell phones won't be allowed at their upcoming world tour. This week Tom & Zeus celebrate their 300th episode with their review of the 1976 legendary album from KISS, "Destroyer!" This was KISS' 4th studio album and the 24th and LAST KISS studio album reviewed by SIOL. KISS was riding high after their live album "Alive" broke through and went gold. The power and energy of a live KISS show was the missing ingredient to get KISS their big break. Not wanting to rest on their recent success, the band brought producer Bob Ezrin from Alice Cooper fame in to help them "get to the next level." Ezrin was like no producer KISS ever had before or since. Bringing the best out of the members and co-writing 7 of the 9 tracks, Ezrin's fingerprints were all over Destroyer. Destroyer was very different then the previous raw three albums. This album had choirs, ghost players, a ballad, orchestras and even a calliope. The final result was KISS most commercial, critically acclaimed and perhaps polarizing album. The album features some of KISS most legendary songs, including, Detroit Rock City, God Of Thunder, Shout It Out Loud, Beth and more. As usual the guys breakdown and analyze the tracks and rank the songs SIOL style. As always, they then compare the album and album cover and rank it against the previous studio albums reviewed. There is no better way to celebrate Shout It Out Loudcast's 300th episode than with an album review of perhaps KISS' best album. Oh and don't miss the cameo congratulations from the band members (cough) on SIOL's 300th Episode! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Candid conversation alert! Cozy up with me and my friend Sarah Ezrin where we talk about teaching yoga, being moms and why we strengthen our nervous systems by visualizing our children falling from the monkey bars at playgrounds while performing pranayama techniques (not kidding!). Sarah started out working in the adrenaline-fueled film industry. Then, took that “hustle energy” into her yoga teacher career, resulting in burnout. After much heartbreak and loss, she wasn't sure she ever wanted children, but now applies ancient yogic wisdom to motherhood. This is a beautiful listen for any yoga teachers, prospective parents or those with kids at home. Sarah Ezrin is an author, world-renowned yoga educator, content creator, and mama based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Sarah loves guiding people along their wellness and parenthood journeys. Her words, classes, and social media are supportive, healing spaces where people can feel seen and heard. We sat down with Sarah to talk about: The unbelievably common sense of identity loss that early parenthood brings to the surface and how parenting can be an invitation to start cultivating a new sense of who we want to be in this life. The need to understand and work with energy management as parents when we start to feel ourselves in the space of overwhelm. The deficit we face as a society that has normalized a nuclear family system that has made parenting feel incredibly depleting and isolating. The spiritual aspect of parenting and why the yoga of parenting is about so much more than being on a yoga mat. “Hey little Donna, still wanna? You said to ring you up when I was in Toronna”. Or perhaps: “Nothing matters but the weekend from a Tuesday point of view!”That's right, the Kings are here, with new music and the “Always Off The Deep End” Special, featuring the single of the same name and more of their latest songs that sound as great as their timeless hit “This Beat Goes On/Switchin' To Glide”, which we'll revisit because how do you deny the tune that all those years ago got them signed to a world-wide deal back when world famous producer Bob (Pink Floyd The Wall, KISS, Peter Gabriel) Ezrin dropped by to visit and checked the band out and liked what he heard. He agreed to mix the tracks The Kings had recorded but soon discovered that the whole thing needed to be re-done. He approached ElektraRecords in Los Angeles with The Kings' tapes and the unknown band was signed. The project was released as “The Kings Are Here”. ‘Switchin' To Glide', was put out and did get noticed but the tune was really two songs in one and the band insisted they be released together. So when the segue ‘This Beat Goes On/Switchin' To Glide' was released radio really picked up on it. Even at over five minutes in length, it caught on all over the USA and Canada with huge airplay in every major market and stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 for six months. 40 plus years later, it sounds as good as it did the first time. So, Jeff and David Diamond and Mr. Zero dig in to all that and the newest Kings music too, created with collaborators including Ezrin, GGGarth Richardson, Harry Hess, and other world class producers and mixers. Lots of stories and music to go with. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This week, I speak to yoga teacher, writer, and mama Sarah Ezrin about her new book, The Yoga of Parenting: 10 Yoga Based Practices to Help You Stay Grounded, Connect with Your Kids, and Be Kind to Yourself. As Sarah points out right at the beginning of the episode, there are far more than just 10 practices in this book. There are 34 to be exact, but more importantly it's just brimming with both creative and science-backed ideas to help you grow as a parent, increase those oh-so-essential self-regulation skills, and foster connection with your kids.Tune in to hear how Sarah has applied these practices in her own life, how she balances being a content creator with social media boundaries, how yoga helped her recover from her own tumultuous childhood.Shownotes: yogalandpodcast.com/episode297 Hosted on Acast. Lou Reed's concept album Berlin - It JUST occurred to me: it's Jim who calls the authorities on Caroline to have her kids taken away.
Today, we take a break from news and politics to catch up with legendary record producer Bob Ezrin! Though many listeners of this program may not know his name, you've certainly heard and enjoyed his work over the past four decades! In addition to having produced some of the most iconic albums and bands in recent times, Ezrin is also a songwriter and musician, climate activist, film, television and theatrical producer and pioneer in digital media. In fact, it's in that world where we first met. He and I were among the first to dabble in internet radio, back in 2000-2001.... We'll talk about our work together at Enigma Digital and worldclassrock.com, plus a new tech event we also worked together on back in 1992! But we spend most of the hour discussing his work producing Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel and many others. We'll get back to the news and politics next week. But for today, we'll talk music and history with Bob Ezrin.
Pink Floyd's 1979 double album, The Wall, stands tall as a body of work. A true rock opera, it tells a tale of a war orphan who grew up to become a jaded rock star, growing increasingly isolated behind a mental wall…which closely mirrors Roger Waters' own life experiences. This epic undertaking may very well never have happened without producer Bob Ezrin, who was brought in to help the band flesh out the concept, and he's responsible for pushing for the release of “Another Brick In The Wall Part II” as a single, one of the few songs released outside of album form by Pink Floyd. Find out more about Ezrin's part in building The Wall in this episode of Behind The Song. Teenagers are normally withdrawn. But once you see some shifts in behavior or probably a liquor missing from the liquor cabinet, these could be red flags that your young adult is struggling with addiction. On today's episode of The Addicted Mind Podcast, Duane speaks with Maks Ezrin, certified recovery coach and co-founder of Youth Prevention Mentors, and shares what they're currently doing to help mentor young adults so they don't fall into the trap of addiction – striking addiction before addiction strikes. Maks had his own experience with early addiction. Born and raised in New York City, Maks was living with his loving parents and pretty much had everything life had to offer. But wanting to be perceived as the cool kid in the bunch, Maks pretty much began partying and experimenting with drugs and alcohol at 13 years old. And by the age he was 15, he tried cocaine and ecstasy. By college, Maks was doubling down on substance abuse. His four years of college involved daily use of marijuana and Xanax then all of the other maladaptive behaviors came with it. Maks was practically living a double life because his parents knew nothing about it. He was compartmentalizing all these different pieces in his life that were giving him tremendous anxiety and angst, feeding into his addiction. Until one day, he woke up in the back of an ambulance and was still in denial that it was caused by an overdose. Eventually, Maks came across Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) through his friend who introduced him to it. Over the course of three months, he was using substances and going to meetings until it wasn't fun anymore. He was tired of lying to himself and the people around him who truly wanted him to get better. So on September 24, 2016, he made the full leap into the program. In this episode, you will hear: Maks' story of addiction and recovery A feeling of being not enough Developing maladaptive behaviors along with the addiction Getting introduced to AA The birth of Youth Prevention Mentors How YPM provides support to young adults Signs your kids might be struggling The inverse cult of adolescence Breaking the stigma around mental health Key Quotes: [05:17] - "That's a big part of my story being perceived a certain way to kind of fill the void of not being enough." [10:42] - "I didn't have the foresight or the ability to look inward and kind of focus on, you know, what's really making me feel this way and how is this affecting my actions." [21:30] - "This disease takes people and it does not discriminate." [26:03] - "I didn't get the support that I needed and it led to an existence of chaos and overdose and substance misuse – and that doesn't need to be you. Let me give you some education." [28:03] - “When working with young adults, you have to take on the family.” [29:26] - “We create a life team around the family so that they feel support from all angles, and that there's that united approach of - we all know what direction we're going and we're all being held accountable by our separate parties.” [38:43] - "There's nothing wrong with meeting someone to get some help for your mental health or struggle with addiction." With Chris & Aaron out of town for an interview, this week we look back on a DBG Classic as we revisit Albums Unleashed - Alice Cooper's Dada with guest Dick Wagner. Chris and Aaron are currently working with the Dick Wagner Remember the Child Fund this week; conducting an interview with a legend of the music industry for a future project with the charity. In honor of the charity, they thought it best to republish this classic interview with Dick Wagner in his honor. Original notes below:Released in 1983, DaDa was, for all intents and purposes, dead on arrival due to being the final album in Cooper's contract with Warner Brothers as well as the out-of-the-box style of songs. Part art-rock, part esoteric/theatrical concept, DaDa's synthesizer-infused production combined with a healthy amount of humor crossed with dark subject matter left 1983 audiences confused; and they weren't the only ones. The early 80's were a self-professed "blackout" period for Alice Cooper with the rocker going as far as saying that he barely even remembers the songwriting process or production of this album. Cooper's lack of recollection has led many die-hard Cooper fans to create their own theories as to the concept behind DaDa. Guitarist/composer Dick Wagner, a longtime collaborator of Alice's, was the principal songwriter on this album and was kind enough, while in Nashville in May of 2014, to sit down with Aaron and Chris to discuss the entire album track by track and memory by memory. In this discussion, Wagner shares his memories of the difficulties that led to getting Alice to come to ESP Studios in Buttonville Ontario from his Pheonix home to join he and producer Bob Ezrin in the making of DaDa. Alice's alcohol abuse hit record highs during this period and Dick shares his recollections of their songwriting and recording process that led to the songs on the album. From the creepy title track's intro that features producer Ezrin aping a psychiatrist talking to Cooper as DaDa's featured character over a bed of strange reverberating sounds and the voice of a child calling out for its father to the dark tale of self-destructive realization that is album closer 'Pass the Gun Around,' Wagner tells the story of the album's basic concept.During this in-depth discussion of 1983's DaDa, Dick Wagner reveals the inspiration for the man-in-the-attic track 'Former Lee Warmer' and how, while it has horror opera feel, it's true roots lie in a bad business realtionship with Alice's record label.A fantastic fan-created theory of the albums concept and storyline was written online in 2008 for Ultimate-Guitar.com by a user named madpaperboy89. Aaron and Chris were so intrigued by the review that they read parts of it to Dick to get his take on it. As you'll hear in the discussion, the writer was spot-on in parts. As you'll hear in this installment of Albums Unleashed, DaDa still holds a very special place in Dick Wagner's heart and it's finally earning some much-deserved attention after all these years.Decibel Geek is a proud member of the Pantheon Podcasts familyContact Us!Rate, Review, and Subscribe in iTunesJoin the Facebook Fan PageFollow on TwitterFollow on InstagramE-mail UsSubscribe to our Youtube channel!Support Us!Buy a T-Shirt!Donate to the show!Stream Us!Stitcher RadioSpreakerTuneInBecome a VIP Subscriber!Click HERE for more info!Comment BelowDirect Download
