Episode page with video, transcript, and more My guest for Episode #252 of the My Favorite Mistake podcast is Russell K. Jack. He's a retired US Senior Federal Air Marshal, working in that role from 2002 to 2022. Russell previously served five years as a Federal Police Officer. And previously served five years in the Colorado Army National Guard and was deployed in Saudi Arabia (Desert Storm). He is also a first-time author — his book is titled, Is MAGA a Terrorist Movement?— available now. He hopes this book will promote critical thinking about protecting our democracy and just how precariously close we are to losing it forever. He writes this book out of a sense of duty to the American people. In today's episode, Russell shares his favorite mistake story from his time working as a security officer for a major health system. Why did a Black man think he was being racially profiled by Russell? And what did Russell learn about that interaction? We also dive into important topics from his book — the lessons learned and the implications for 2024 and beyond. Questions and Topics: Did you get to share that lesson with others in law enforcement? How often do you think racial profiling does occur? What's the definition of “terrorist”? Death threats are an example of terrorism? Fascist? What does that mean and what's the implication if MAGA wins in 2024? It's a mistake that we don't have a clear definition of “Insurrectionist”? Who is the audience for the book? The already convinced, or the convincible?? Your hope for the book? You write you've never convinced anybody to stop being MAGA. Do you expect this book to help? Do you run across people who now think it was a mistake to previously support or vote for Trump? Does MAGA think they made mistakes in early 2021 that they wouldn't make again in early 2029?? If Trump were to die tomorrow, what happens to MAGA movement?

On November 13, 2022, four college students from the University of Idaho were stabbed to death in their home. Following weeks of investigations, police in Moscow, Idaho, charged 28-year-old Bryan Kohberger for the murders of Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. Jonathan T. Gilliam – former US Navy SEAL, FBI Special Agent, author, speaker, and host of The Experts podcast – discusses the case LIVE on Ask Dr. Drew. Follow Gilliam at twitter.com/JGilliam_SEAL The allegations are startling: that Bryan Kohberger stalked his victims at restaurant Seven Sirens Brewery; that Kohberger had a past heroin addiction and may have been intoxicated when he committed the murders; that despite his degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice, and attention to hiding traces of his crimes, Bryan made many “stupid” mistakes like leaving behind a knife sheath and DNA; that the killer's face was seen by a survivor as he was leaving the home. Every time I talk to Gary Quesenberry, I learn something new. The safety tips he's shared with me have stayed with me. I'm so excited about his newest book addition to his safety series, “Spotting Danger Before It Spots Your Teens”. Gary has turned his career in law enforcement into teachings to help you raise your children safely, even if you don't know what's lurking around the corner. Gary's foundation is based on situational awareness: how people should act, reading the environment, identifying problems, knowing your options, and reinforcement through visualisation. Gary and I talk about how to keep our teens safe in today's ever-changing world - as a parent, it's hard to keep up! Gary shares such wisdom in an easy-to-understand way, and well, I love listening to him because he has a great accent! In this episode we talk about these important issues: Understanding the risks teens face: online safety, school violence, exploitation Challenges that “pre-drivers licence teens” face: being home alone, being safe at malls movies and parks, sleepovers, school trips, and team sports Teens “on the move” who have more freedom and access to vehicles: drivers' safety, parties, and dating What I love the most about Gary and his book is that it's something you and your teen can read. I know your teen wants to make good choices and knowledge is power! The legend Steven Pressfield (Gates of Fire and so many other great books) messaged me and recommended I interview Gary Quesenberry for KNOW FEAR®. Gary's current focus is on the very important subject of situational awareness and he thought he'd make a great guest for our audience - Mr. Pressfield's intuition was right! I really enjoyed this talk, and after nearly screwing up the pronunciation of his last name, we had a great talk. I think you'll really enjoy it! Maury Abreu is the CEO and Founder of Omega Protective Concepts. He began his combatives education in boxing at the age of 12 when his father was looking for him to learn skills that could translate to the streets. As he was being raised in an area where he saw a lot of violent crime, he was immediately drawn to the aggression and violent contact that boxing offered, yet was lacking in the traditional martial arts he'd previously done. Maury continued to compete as a boxer well into his late 20's.Maury served as a Sergeant in U.S. Marine Corps at various duty stations, where he provided security at sensitive sites and instructed military personnel in the operation and deployment of various weapons and tactics both domestically and abroad. He was also selected as a Close Combat Instructor, training Marines in all aspects of military combatives. Maury then became a Federal Correctional Officer with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Shortly after September 11, 2001 he then began working for a government agency responsible for training individuals who operate globally and independently without backup, specifically in extreme close quarters combat and counterterrorism. Maury is a nationally published author for Paladin Press, sharing some of his knowledge and passion for knife combatives on Kelly McCann's Sudden Violence Series: “Edged Weapons: Response to Violent Knife Attacks.” Maury is a competent and dynamic instructor with a legitimate teaching journey, possessing more than 20 years of combined military, law enforcement, and counterterrorism experience including instructing at a multitude of law enforcement and counterterrorism academies. He has trained thousands of S.W.A.T. and law enforcement, military, and civilian clients, and is a certified instructor in Extreme Close-Quarters Personal Protection, Use of Force, Military Combatives, Knife and Firearm deployment and defense, Restraint and Control, Chemical Sprays, Baton, Physical Fitness, and Boxing. Today I'm talking to Special Agent David Renfro, a federal agent for the Treasury Department. David's diverse career took him from being a Federal Air Marshal right after 9/11 to working on joint terrorism task forces and eventually as an investigator with the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, a job he calls the best kept secret in Federal law enforcement. All along the way he had opportunities to do a wide variety of training at FLETC in Glynco, Georgia, a federal training center he recently returned to as a staff member and program manager. This episode gives you a lot of wisdom from David as he talks about the twists and turns of his career. He explains how he decided to make each move and how to prepare for the next step in his career. And hang on to the end where David comments on how he timed his latest career move based on his family dynamics.Resources: Man Alive, by Patrick MorelyMusic is by Chris Haugen from the YouTube Audio Library and the KCKPD Pipes and Drums.Hey Chaplain Podcast Episode 016

He also holds a Certified Executive Instructor position under Progressive Fighting Systems, which is the “crème de la crème” in functional Jeet Kune Do. In late 2003, he was invited to teach instructors of the Federal Air Marshal's Chicago O'Hare office . He also completed the Jeet Kune Do Self Defense Matrix, which is the perfect “at home” training companion and a great supplementary program for students at all levels. National publications and experts alike have hailed this program as “unique and groundbreaking” as it not only focuses on the content of JKD (what is taught), but the method (how it is taught), resulting in an incredible training tool. His passion is using martial arts to increase the quality of his student's lives. Whether he is teaching character values to children, intense street fighting drills to men, or confidence-building self-defense techniques to women – Mr. Numrich is living his mission. John Brooks was the first black graduate from the University of Montana, where he studied ecology, and he has always had the passion to help people and the environment. He's protected US airways as an Air Marshall, and worked with US Customs and Homeland Security to prevent the unlawful trafficking of live exotic wildlife. He's spent 30 years with the US Department of Interior from California to Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, Texas, Illinois, Ohio, Virginia, Washington DC and New Jersey. John has also held the titles, Refuge Manager, Wildlife Inspector, Special Agent, Computer Forensics Specialist and augmented Federal Air Marshal. Although he retired in 2008 as a civil servant, he's continued to stress the importance of education through his work as an author, filmmaker, musician and community volunteer and believes education is the key to a healthy society. Although congressional candidates have already been decided for this election year, John comes on the podcast to discuss some of the ways we can contribute to a less-cruel, and more loving environment, not only to benefit people, but animals as well. John and I also take a few minutes to discuss the issues at hand regarding the police force, the Black Lives Matter movement, and everything that has lead up to our current movement. *NOTE* I personally try to keep my political views off of podcasts, with the intent of focusing on veganism, rather than causing division in those that don't identify with political parties at hand. I've provided a platform for those to speak about veganism, and align with their views in effort to do so. My intent is not to promote or disqualify any political party, but rather to promote the areas that align with veganism.* John Brooks: Website: https://johnbrooksforcongress.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/iamjohnbrooks/ FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/johnbrooksforcongress/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/2020JohnBrooks

Gary talks about his time in the Army, as a Federal prison guard, and as an entrepreneur making holsters in his Easy-Bake oven. Shamelessly, Gary admits that he stole Jon's SEAL Trident during a Wild West-style duel. Or something like that. You'll have to watch for the full details.

Matt Cubbler has always lived a life of sacrifice and dedication to others. From serving in the U.S. Army, to working as one of Pennsylvania’s most renowned police officers, to donating his time speaking to teens and young adults about the importance of leadership in their lives, he has devoted his life to helping others through both his professional and personal life. To him these things come naturally. Because after growing up as the son of a single mother and the brother of a mentally disabled teen who was often picked on, Cubbler always knew it was his calling to serve others. A month after graduating from high school, Cubbler’s brother Andy died in a violent car accident. That moment would end up becoming the single most impactful moment in his life. While he excelled academically in high school and had an opportunity to attend one of the four major military academies, he decided he was needed elsewhere and chose to enlist in the United States Army and served for four years as an Intelligence Analyst. His Army tour of duty took him from Augsburg, Germany to the Persian Gulf War. After leaving the military as a highly decorated soldier, Cubbler began his career in law enforcement. Throughout his career, he has worked in almost every facet of law enforcement – uniformed patrol, investigations, under-cover narcotics, and SWAT. Shortly after “9/11,” he answered the call to, once again, protect America against Islamic Extremists who were inflicting terror all over the world. He was one of only a few thousand select individuals (out of over 900,000 applicants) to be hired by the newly formed United States Federal Air Marshal Service. In 2006, Cubbler returned to local police work and he published a memoir that detailed his life with his brother entitled A Brother’s Love: A Memoir. In 2008, to help raise money for charities established in his brother’s name, he ran 78.8 miles across the state of New Jersey. His level of love and commitment to keeping his brother’s name and story alive has inspired thousands across the country. In 2009, Cubbler got bit by the entrepreneurial bug and he launched his first company MaxOut, a unique fitness brand that owns a unique piece of patented strength training technology and owns and operates one-of-a-kind gyms utilizing this same technology. Over the past eight years, while still working full-time as a police officer, he has built MaxOut into a national brand that has helped thousands of people achieve strength and fitness levels unseen in the fitness marketspace. Today, Cubbler is still a full-time police officer, the COO of MaxOut, host of the popular podcast Two Dates and a Dash Podcast and a sought after public speaker who captivates his audiences through his personal story of struggle and triumph, his leadership training program based on his experiences as a soldier and his law enforcement officer and most importantly his life living with his brother whose life and death has inspired all that he has accomplished since that fateful day.
Gary J. Byrne served in federal law enforcement for thirty years, in the U.S. Air Force Security Police, the Uniformed Division of the Secret Service, and most recently as a Federal Air Marshal. Tom Quinn on the service provided by the Special Operations Warrior Foundation ~ "So whenever today, if you’re a Navy Seal, or Army Special Forces, or Ranger, or Air Force Combat Air Control, or a Marine Special Ops, you know that you have our enduring promise that we will educate your children if you don’t come home. And it gives them a great deal of confidence going in to the hotspots that they go into." Tom Quinn - Former Director, Federal Air Marshals Service and Ret. Secret Service with host Andy Ockershausen in-studio interview Andy Ockershausen: This is Andy Ockershausen, this is Our Town, and I have a great pleasure to talk to the great Tom Quinn today. For those of you who don't know, he is a man, the first one started with the Air Marshals. Tom Quinn led that effort to put air marshals on airplanes. Is that right, Tom? Tom Quinn Re-enters Government to Head Up New Federal Air Marshal Service Tom Quinn: That's right, Andy. I came back into government to stand up the Federal Air Marshal Service as a federal law enforcement organization, based on the National Transportation Security Act that was passed after 9/11. Andy Ockershausen: And so you had to start from scratch to hire people, to provide protection on American aircraft. Did you do any foreign aircraft too, or just US? Mandate to Grow Service from 33 to Several Thousand Security Officers Tom Quinn: Just US-flagged air carriers and there was a small federal air marshal contingent that was ... they were security officers in the FAA, very small number. On 9/11, there were 33 and that's all. Andy Ockershausen: In the whole flying industry, 33 marshals. Tom Quinn: 33. And the mandate was to create a Federal Air Marshal Service of several thousand to provide a deterrent on US-flagged air carriers, both domestically and internationally. It still is a robust organization today. Andy Ockershausen: How many marshals would there be today? Tom Quinn: The number's classified, but suffice it to say, there are several thousand operating from field offices that we created, all over the country. And their mission is essentially to promote confidence in federal aviation through the deployment of federal air marshals to detect, deter, and defeat hostile acts on aircraft, airspace, and airports. Andy Ockershausen: It must be one of the more successful ventures ever attempted by the federal government because, and maybe I'm wrong, but I don't recall any hijacking since these marshals have been in place. Monumental Task - Six Months to Get the Job Done Tom Quinn: Well, there certainly hasn't been any hijackings. They are a significant deterrent along, with the rest of what TSA does in terms of the screening. None of us like it, but it is a fact of life if you're going to fly. And the Federal Air Marshals really is the law enforcement component of that. But if you can imagine standing up an organization with a time certain. The commitment to that was made to the president, President Bush, 43 at the time, was that they would be stood up by the end of July of 2002. So from the time TSA was created, the Federal Air Marshal Service was essentially being stood up. You had roughly six months to select, hire, train, and deploy several thousand into offices that didn't exist around the country, with no leadership to speak of in terms of the numbers of- Andy Ockershausen: Nobody's ever done it before, correct? You didn'tt have any model to follow. Tom Quinn: And, you know, how do you go about ... Most federal law enforcement agencies, the Secret Service, for example, the FBI, if they had a thousand agents to hire in a year, it would be a monumental task for an established organization. We were a new organization with little or no management,
In today's Federal Newscast, there have been more than 200 cases of Federal Air Marshals misusing their firearms between 2005 and 2017.

Welcome back to the Firearms Nation Podcast. I’ve been fortunate in my competitive shooting career to be a part of a gun manufacturer’s factory team. From 2014-2016 I was a part of Team Sig or Sig Sauer and from that team I met a variety of folks from the company. One of them was an instructor from the Sig Academy who had a background in the Federal Air Marshal service. Hana Bilodeau started as a local police officer then moved on to become an Air Marshal. Being in that position brought her to the attention of the academy who then hired her full time. More recently Hana was promoted to Director of Training for all of Sig Sauer. Closer to home, Hana was part of the 2017 Shooter’s Summit. She is a contributing writer for RECOIL magazine and now has been shooting videos for shows on some big named cable networks. Hana’s specialty was teaching female shooters and we get into some of the obstacles she had to overcome as a female in a male dominated industry. In this runaway #1 New York Times bestseller, former secret service officer Gary Byrne, who was posted directly outside President Clinton's oval office, reveals his first-hand experience with Hillary, Bill, and how they operate while protecting the First Family in CRISIS OF CHARACTER. Byrne served in federal law enforcement for nearly thirty years, in the U.S. Air Force Security Police, the Uniformed Division of the Secret Service, and most recently as a Federal Air Marshal.
In the first 1/2 hour of The Tami Jackson Show* I will be talking to Tim Constantine. Tim is a radio host and the spokesman for Rethink Ethanol, a coalition of environmentalists, small business, and industry that advocate to relax or repeal completely the Renewable Fuel Standard. Tim Constantine hit the airwaves at age 13. At the time, his deep voice didn't match his skinny frame and sneakers, but through the magic of radio, it really didn't matter. As a young man he worked in Rock and Top 40 Formats. Later, while serving in elected office, Constantine returned to broadcasting, this time in the Talk Format. Today Constantine broadcasts from Washington DC to listeners all across the United States. He combines his background in TV and Radio, his experience in public office, his controversial fall from grace and his hard-nose business approach with his understated sense of humor for one of the most entertaining radio programs anywhere. Tim and I will be talking about the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS): Congress created the renewable fuel standard (RFS) program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and expand the nation's renewable fuels sector while reducing reliance on imported oil. This program was authorized under the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and expanded under the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. Some important points we'll cover: Thanks to the swamp, Americans pay more and more for food each year. This is because of a government mandate called the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) written by and lobbied for by special interest groups. RFS mandates that 10% of gasoline be mixed with ethanol, a product of corn. As gasoline companies complied with the mandate, the price of corn skyrocketed affected livestock farmers who depend on corn to feed chickens, cows, and pigs. Farmers were forced to increase their prices dramatically, and American consumers are left to pick up the bill. Even environmentalists who originally advocated for the ethanol-gasoline mix are now advocating against the mandate, saying the the huge influx of corn productive is extremely harmful to the environment with excess nutrient running off from Midwest states to flow down the Mississippi river to the Gulf of Mexico, where dead zones affect commercial and recreational fishing and tourism - huge industries for Gulf States. This is a conversation that affects each one of us and our daily lives -- don't miss one word and be sure to check out the Rethink Ethanol website for constantly updated articles, research and legislation! *********************** My guest for the second 1/2 hour will be Gary Byrne Gary J. Byrne served in federal law enforcement for nearly thirty years, in the U.S. Air Force Security Police, the Uniformed Division of the Secret Service, and most recently as a Federal Air Marshal. While serving as a Secret Service Officer, Gary protected President Bill Clinton and the First Family in the White House. Gary has received letters of commendation and praise from Bill Clinton's Chief of State, the Secret Service, and the acting director of the Federal Air Marshal Service. Gary Byrne authored the Hachette Book Group bombshell, Crisis of Character: A White House Secret Service Officer Discloses His Firsthand Experience with Hillary, Bill, and How They Operate. Byrne has a brand new, revealing book out, Secrets of the Secret Service: The History and Uncertain Future of the U.S. Secret Service, that enumerates the failings within the Secret Service itself: lack of leadership, lack of financial budgeting and accountability, and most importantly, critical failures in protecting presidents and other protectees. Gary and I will talk a bit about his tenure in the Clinton White House, which gives Gary a unique viewpoint on the challenges facing Secret Service detail with President Trump. We'll also talk about any inside baseball on Hillary's opinion and treatment of the Secret Service. But most importantly, we will talk about his new book and what must be done to make the U.S. Secret Service great again! Don't miss a minute of my conversation with Gary Byrne!
