Bangalore Airport To Electronics City In 19 Minutes | ep: 397 | Tamil podcast | flying taxi
The taxis of the future are already here. And they're airborne. After years of research and development and billions in investment, autonomous flying taxis are finally poised to take off. Companies working on these pilotless vehicles have been quietly working on prototypes — and recently, Bloomberg reporter Colum Murphy took a test flight in one of the first models operating in China. But once the technology is proven, new challenges begin: the industry will have to navigate regulatory hurdles, which can vary country to country, and find a customer base that will trust this new form of air-travel. On today's episode, Murphy takes the Big Take on his flying taxi ride, and his colleague Angus Whitley explains why it's a make or break moment for the industry. The Elephant In The Room Property Podcast | Inside Australian Real Estate
We may soon be able to hop in an air taxi and cross the city in a fraction of the time it takes to cross congested roads thanks to driverless cars and drone deliveries. How will this affect our airways? Does it affect the view, the noise, or the privacy? Or safety? What effect will this have on property values? In this episode, The CEO of Skyportz, Clem Newton-Brown, discussed the possibility of air taxis revolutionizing aviation transportation within the next ten to thirty years. He also shared that the idea of air taxis has been in development since 2015, when Uber introduced the concept and many more. Is it a car? Or a plane? Or a drone? This vehicle-cum-aircraft looks like a larger version of a regular drone. Created by a Chinese company called XPENG AEROHT, this test of the electric flying taxi offers a glimpse into the future, where people may one day soar through over the city to their destination, leaving traffic jams far below. The XPeng X2, developed by the Guangzhou-based XPeng Inc.'s aviation affiliate, is one of dozens of flying car projects around the world. Only a handful have been successfully tested with passengers on board, and it will likely be many years before any are put into service. This demonstration takes place with an empty cockpit, but the company says it carried out a manned flight test in July 2021. “This test is very important,” says Omar Al Khan, the executive director of Dubai chamber of commerce and industry. Al Khan adds that Dubai is working with the private sector on establishing a framework that governs the rules of the flying cars. “We expect that in 2024 the new generation of the new vehicles will be ready and in 2026 you will see more flying testing. This car is 700 kilograms and it flies. And from a distance, you would not know that it is 700 kilograms. It looks like a drone, but it can fly for 140 kilometers in 45 minutes. This is the first step in achieving the dream,” he says. The sleekly designed vehicle can carry two passengers and is powered by a set of eight propellers. The company says it has a top speed of 130 kilometers (80 miles) per hour. Ming Quan Qiu, General Manager of Xpeng Aeroht, says after finishing the test: “We are now in the researching process, we are making the step by step to the international market.” Unlike airplanes and helicopters, eVTOL vehicles offer quick point-to-point personal travel, at least in principle. The pilot-less vehicles may one day ferry passengers across town high above congested roadways. But the sector still faces major challenges, including battery life, air traffic control and safety and infrastructure issues. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Volocopter, the startup out of southern Germany (Bruchsal) that has been developing electric VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft and a business model for operating them in taxi-style fleets in urban areas, has picked up another big round of funding as it inches closer to its first commercial launches.
In 10 to 20 years, Honda wants its business to offer more than automobiles, motorcycles and power equipment. A part of its “2030 Vision,” the company from Tokyo is looking to the sky and to robots and sees these advancements being offered by the 2030s and 40s. The first is air taxis. This would build on HondaJet, which was founded in 2006 and features business jets. Bloomberg reports that Honda hopes to commence flight tests on its air taxis in 2023. It will use a lithium battery and a gas-turbine generator which would assist in increasing its range. If all goes according to plan, Honda sees this certified by 2030. And if Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) reaches a fully autonomous stage by 2040, Honda estimates an annual market of $269 billion.

This spring, German air taxi startup Lilium debuted a five-seat flying car prototype and showed footage of its — sort of — debut flight. The company, founded by engineers from the Technical University of Munich, made its first vertical takeoff and landing flight with a two-seater in 2017, then showcased the five-seater — which features two sets of fixed wings rather than more energy-consuming rotors — briefly lifting off and hovering in May.This week, Lilium released new footage that showed its small, electric jet taking to the skies above southern Germany. In the video, the jet smoothly transitions from vertical to horizontal flight, and the company said it has clocked in at speeds of more than 60 miles per hour.Eventually, the company hopes the jet will be able to travel at speeds of up to 185 miles per hour.Lilium said it has now wrapped up the first phase of flight testing and remains on track to offer air taxi services in several cities across the world by 2025. The company says the jet’s expected range of just more than 185 miles on a charge will offer practical, zero-emission air transit across entire regions rather than solely in cities and suburbs. The company has also dedicated its first manufacturing space at its Munich headquarters, and this week named a former Airbus executive as its new chief program officer.

The developer of a two-seat flying car recently tested a larger prototype that company officials hope will finally help realize the potential of urban air mobility.Lilium famously pioneered a vertical takeoff and landing aircraft and took it for a debut flight in 2017. This month, the company, founded by engineers from the Technical University of Munich, unveiled a five-seat aircraft and showed footage of it briefly lifting off and touching back down.Eventually, the company intends for the design’s 36 all-electric engines to allow it, once airborne, to cruise at a top speed of 185 miles per hour at a range of about that same distance.Lilium officials said a fixed-wing design enables the aircraft to travel horizontally without using much energy — unlike drone-like designs that need to generate more lift. The air taxi is controlled remotely from the ground and features a simple design without a tail, rudder, propellers or gearbox. It includes just one moving part in the engine and offers passengers panoramic windows and gull-wing doors.Lilium hopes that, once certified and moved into mass production, users will be able to use a mobile app to find a nearby landing pad, then travel across a city or region at a comparable price to a conventional taxi. The company expects to begin trials in several locations with a goal of operating in cities around the world by 2025.
