Number 977We're less than 2 weeks out from Switch 2's launch and things are getting very exciting! We have rumors of a Nintendo Direct, rumblings of Samsung wanting to get in on the future of Switch 2, speculation about games just around the corner and so much more!
RK takes Game Gear, Squeezer takes Game Boy and we defend how great these portable systems are.
In this episode, we dive into our personal backlogs as we prepare for the eventual launch of the Nintendo Switch 2—what games are we trying to finish first, and what indie gems are we loving most right now? Then we take a nostalgic trip back to the golden era of puzzle games with a spotlight on some timeless classics:
Send us a textOur heroes discuss their top 10 favorite Playstion 1 and X-box games.
Number 976With less than a month to go until Switch 2, the Nintendo news is coming out at a furious pace! So much to cover in this episode, and it only helps to push Switch 2 hype higher! Man, we're getting closer to June 5th with every day, yet the wait is somehow getting tougher!
The main topic of this week's episode is: "What's the greatest gaming handheld of all time?" Is it the original Game Boy? The PlayStation Vita? The Switch? The N-Gage? I have my thoughts, of course, but I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks. Of course, if that topic doesn't tickle your fancy, there's always what I've been playing, this week with City Bus Manager, Mad Experiments: Escape Room, Mad Experiments 2: Escape Room, Beef Cat Ultra, and DAMN!. Anyway and as always, thank you for watching or listening, I hope you enjoy this here episode, and I hope you have a wonderful wonderful rest of your day. (And if you haven't already, or are a listener and not a watcher, please like, subscribe, hit the bell, and all that jazz; it may not seem like much, but it goes a long way in helping support the show and site in general. I would appreciate it greatly.)

Deep beneath the frigid Arctic landscape, humanity's digital legacy sleeps in a vault carved into frozen rock. The Arctic World Archive, nestled in a decommissioned coal mine near the North Pole, represents our most ambitious attempt to preserve crucial data against time itself. With deposits from over 30 countries—including Vatican manuscripts and 3D scans of the Taj Mahal—this modern-day Library of Alexandria raises profound questions about what we choose to save for future generations.Meanwhile, the boundaries between ancient biology and modern commerce blur as scientists develop luxury leather goods from reconstructed T-Rex DNA. By extracting collagen preserved for 80 million years and engineering it in laboratory conditions, researchers have created what might become the most exclusive fashion material ever conceived. This startling fusion of paleontology and consumer products forces us to reconsider our relationship with extinct species—are we preserving their legacy or simply commodifying them?Digital security takes center stage with the "Interrupt" device—a portable hacking tool that puts professional-grade network testing capabilities into an affordable, Game Boy-sized unit. Priced at just $199, this powerful gadget demonstrates how cybersecurity tools have become dramatically more accessible, democratizing techniques once restricted to specialists. While marketed for ethical testing, its potential for misuse highlights our ongoing struggle to balance technological advancement with responsible usage. From a Catholic priest who embezzled $40,000 for mobile gaming addictions to Newark Airport's frighteningly outdated air traffic control systems still running on floppy disks, we examine how technology shapes our vulnerabilities as much as our strengths. Whether preserving our past in frozen vaults or struggling with the consequences of our digital lives, one thing becomes clear: the choices we make today about technology will echo long into humanity's future.Subscribe to Tech Time Radio for weekly insights that put you weeks ahead of mainstream technology coverage, and visit patreon.com/techtimeradio to support our mission of bringing critical tech understanding to everyday listeners.Support the show

From a bedroom coder to Game Developer's Conference OG to the creator of one of the greatest one-on-one action strategy games of the 8 bit era, Jeff Johannigman worked for some of the most legendary companies of the 80s, Epyx, Electronic Arts, and Origin and beyond. In Part 2, we talk about working on Ultima for the Gameboy, porting Dynamix titles to the Amiga, rediscovering his strategy roots at Microprose and finally deciding to exit the industry on moral and personal grounds. "Slow developers, fast brilliance." That's how this episode unfolds as Graham welcomes the wonderfully candid and creative Hazy Waters, a London-based trio with a love for dreamy textures, 90s-infused melodies, and canine cameos.Agnes, Alex, and (in spirit) Simon take us on a ride through their unlikely journey—high school friendships, fashion photography, culinary skills, and finally... finding the right moment to make the music they've carried inside for years.
Costing just 12,500 yen, Nintendo's revolutionary handheld console, the Game Boy, was released in Japan on 21st April, 1989, quickly selling out its initial stock of 300,000 units. With its compact size, cartridge-based games, and impressive battery life, the Game Boy went on to become a cultural phenomenon, setting the stage for a new era of portable entertainment. Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain why the device's humble monochrome display and lack of backlight were actually secrets of its success; consider Gunpei Yokoi's design philosophy of "lateral thinking with withered technology"; and reveal how Super Mario Land, not Tetris, was very nearly bundled in with the U.S. release… Love the show? Welcome to tech in 2025, where everything's made up and the numbers don't matter. Nilay, David, and The Verge's Jake Kastrenakes start the show by running down the latest tariff news, the uncertain future facing tech companies of all sizes, and what we're learning so far about how they're responding. After that, the hosts talk about a big week in AI news, including Meta's sketchy benchmark numbers and the latest damning reporting about the future of Siri. Finally, in the lightning round, it's time for America's favorite podcast within a podcast, Brendan Carr is a Dummy, along with some news about the TikTok ban and the Pixel 9A. And I'll tell ya, damned if this isn't one of the best games in the entire Game Boy library. A hidden gem among hidden gems. DK '94 is more than just a Game Boy version of the OG Donkey Kong. It starts that way, but they add like 100 additional puzzle levels once you get through the traditional 4. You play as Mario and your objective is to retrieve a key and make your way to a locked door without being killed by enemies, falling to your death, or running out of time. The levels get more complicated as you go on, and when you toss in some great DK boss fights, you get as charming of puzzle game as I've ever played. My guest this week is our resident Stpd Mnky, my buddy Daniel. We both played through this one for the first time over the past few days and both agree that it really does stack up against the best the Game Boy has to offer. A must-play as far as we're concerned. And before we tackle DK, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what gaming might look like 10 years from now? How am I feeling about Game Pass these days? And do I have any plans to check out the Outlast movie?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 o the Game Boy's best: Kirby's Dream Land 2, Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, and Final Fantasy Adventure. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
