On today's episode of Fostering Change, Rob interviews Dr. Kristin Hoffman, Ph.D., Chief Program Officer and Child Psychologist and Chelsea Henandez, LCSW, Clinical Director of the All Star Children's Foundation. The All Star Children's Foundation, based in Sarasota, Florida uses a trauma-focused approach through innovation, science and compassion. They have an onsite campus, home to youth in foster care and their caregivers where they offer a number of evidence-based trainings to the community while emphasizing an understanding of trauma through a “trauma informed lens”.With so many youth in foster care facing trauma, they don't often get to someone who can help until it is much too late. This is where All Star Children's Foundation comes in and help the child make a shift away from trauma.Rob shares with Kristin and Chelsea that “the moment a child enters the system, they should receive some form of therapy.” They discuss the disservice done to children with so many group homes are shut down and how their campus was developed to create a “lasting change” to work with them the moment they enter care to make the feel loved and capable.”The All Star Children's Foundation is also planning their first “State of the Mind Conference” on September 21 to help the community understand trauma and how it affects everyone around. This last week was school vacation week for lots of us in the US. Many of us moms had kids with us full time at home, vacationing, or maybe you got lucky, and they were at a fun day camp. Whatever the case, everyone's schedule is different, and things shift around. Even the best-laid plans can result in challenges and disappointments. Sometimes, I have these crazy days and weeks where nothing is working, and my mind feels like it's spinning. One of my favorite ways to help myself calm down and relax when this happens, which you might not know about. I'll whip out an Oracle card deck because those always seem to give me the guidance and specific message I need at the moment. Cool! If you haven't used them or heard of them, Oracle cards are a free-form way to get spiritual guidance or your daily message. I love working with an Oracle Card Deck by Alana Fairchild called Sacred Rebels. It's one of my favorites because it has such beautiful artwork on every card and excellent descriptions, making them easy to understand for anyone at any level. In this episode, I chose a card with a beautiful message that I think will resonate with busy mamas, and it ties into my next episode about what happens when we push too hard and detach from our intuition.
