371 The Frequency Of Fear It's easy to be afraid. To stick our heads in the sand and watch another episode of a show that we like to ignore what's going on. But if we do that than we can never grow. We're all afraid, but we must act through our fear, refuse to be compliant, refuse to be quiet, and enforce the change we want to see in ourselves and the world around us. In today's episode, Sarah Elkins and Nir Megnazi discuss the use of fear in driving us forward and how important it is to work with our fear and through it. Highlights How are you anchoring someone in time? What frightening experiences still warp and control your perceptions to this day? Are you lacking compassion for yourself? Are you kind to others but unkind to yourself, especially your past self? There's no way to hold space for someone and the emotions they feel if they are not communicated. Learn to work with fear. Fear is normal. Quotes “Courage does not exist without fear.” “The way I approach these memories is with a lot of compassion to ourselves, which is what we're lacking first, is compassion to ourselves.” “Working with our fear is effective. And within our fear.” “We serve people, not businesses.” “What do we want for our kids? We want to help them grow to be responsible human beings, healthy, with values, and to be a good person in this world. A contributing person in this world. But we are a work in progress.” Dear Listeners it is now your turn, I'm curious. I would love to hear in the comments, what are you working on? What is something in your past that you've uncovered that has continued to create ripples, uncomfortable ripples, in your life? What is the pattern you can uncover based on an experience you had, like Nir's where you were bullied as a kid, like mine where you were not able to afford both milk and eggs. What is your fear, or what is generating something that has consistently created a pattern of disconnect and discomfort in your life? And how are you going to approach it? How are you going to identify the emotions that you feel as a result of it, the triggers you experience as a result of that? And how will you embrace them so you can move forward? And, as always, thank you for listening. About Nir Nir Megnazi is an executive coach and leadership development expert who combines over two decades of experience as an engineering leader and military officer with emotional intelligence coaching. He co-created Intel's award-winning leadership coaching program, which earned Intel the International Coaching Federation's prestigious Prism Award and has contributed over $1 billion in operating margin improvements. Nir helps leaders develop the critical human skills needed for today's complex business environment, specializing in building high-trust, high-performing teams and enhancing communication effectiveness. His integrated approach fuses technical leadership with emotional intelligence, helping executives expand their influence, lead with empathy, and drive remarkable results. Be sure to check out Nir's LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram! As well as his Newsletter and Website! About Sarah "Uncovering the right stories for the right audiences so executives, leaders, public speakers, and job seekers can clearly and actively demonstrate their character, values, and vision." In my work with coaching clients, I guide people to improve their communication using storytelling as the foundation of our work together. What I've realized over years of coaching and podcasting is that the majority of people don't realize the impact of the stories they share - on their internal messages, and on the people they're sharing them with. My work with leaders and people who aspire to be leaders follows a similar path to the interviews on my podcast, uncovering pivotal moments in their lives and learning how to share them to connect more authentically with others, to make their presentations and speaking more engaging, to reveal patterns that have kept them stuck or moved them forward, and to improve their relationships at work and at home. The audiobook, Your Stories Don't Define You, How You Tell Them Will is now available! Included with your purchase are two bonus tracks, songs recorded by Sarah's band, Spare Change, in her living room in Montana. Be sure to check out the Storytelling For Professionals Course as well to make sure you nail that next interview!

https://www.melanieparish.com/ (Melanie Parish) is the author of https://www.amazon.com/Experimental-Leader-Cultivate-Organization-Innovators/dp/1989603149 (The Experimental Leader,) Melanie opens our eyes to the reality of leadership management, and the fact that it's something far more important than we think. She has offered our listeners a free e-copy of the book. Go to https://eldigital.experimentalleader.com/the-experimental-leader-digital-book (https://eldigital.experimentalleader.com/the-experimental-leader-digital-book) Melanie is a speaker, consultant, workshop leader, author, and Master Certified Coach through the International Coaching Federation, in which she received the Prism Award. Melanie has consulted and operated within organizations ranging from a Fortune 50 company to IT start-ups within their first round of funding. Many of Melanie's innovations surrounding business outline science and a need for experimentation and data collection. Melanie says, “When we have a status quo that we want to change, we start to try things and we start to experiment. I've noticed in organizations that what happens traditionally with people's careers is they live and die by ideas. We've all been on a team where someone had an idea and they invested a ton of money, but the idea didn't work out. Then that leader loses credibility in the organization. When we adopt in leadership an experimental culture, we start to think of experimenting in something we all buy into together.” In today's corporate environment we are demanding innovation. The beauty of an experiment is playing as you go and deciding how much you want to invest up-front. We're just trying to prove the concept, and Melanie provides us with practical application. Melanie says, “That explicit awareness that you've asked people to spend their lives working for you, for the organization, and to pay attention to what they're doing and to hold that curiosity deeply about what they're doing. Then, to help support them to help do their bottleneck so they can do it better.” Are we truly supporting our upcoming leaders with innovative techniques such as Melanie's? Experimentation in business seems to possess a certain kind of togetherness and risk. A hypothesis that we can all buy into together, and if we fail, the next experiment begins. Ideas like these inspire creativity by informing the corporate audience that this is a process in trial and error rather than immediate gratification. (RIGHT CLICK THE IMAGE TO SAVE THIS EPISODE TO YOUR COMPUTER) John and Paul have been given a new Critical Assignment. With the success of The Six Million Dollar Man Season 6 by Dynamite Comics, it stood to reason that a The Bionic Woman Season 4 comic would follow. But as most bionic fans know, The Bionic Woman does not usually feature the same kind of story telling as her male counterpart. Dynamite's previous attempt at a Bionic Woman comic was less than stellar. Is it possible they can get it right by using the original source material? Writer Brandon Jerwa has been tapped for the assignment and he sits down with John and Paul to discuss what he feels it will take to make The Bionic Woman a successful comic for both the fans of the series and the general comic book reader. 00:00 - Show introduction 03:00 - Bionic Renaissance 04:10 - Brandon Introduction 08:00 - "Where you a fan of Six Million Dollar Man & Bionic Woman?" 12:45 - Viewing the Differences Between the Two Bionic Shows and Characters 19:55 - Announcing The Six Million Dollar Man Season 6 21:30 - Where Dynamite's First Bionic Woman Went Wrong 23:25 - Picking Up Where "On the Run" Left Off 25:55 - An "All Ages" Comic 29:00 - Dialogue That Sums Up Jaime Sommers 31:25 - How Brandon Got the Gig 35:20 - Brandon Will Come Back If We're Not Satisfied 35:55 - Who From the Series Will We See? 37:10 - "Will We See the Coach House?" 38:35 - "Where Does the Story Take Place in Relation to Six Million Dollar Man Season 6?" 40:10 - Likenesses of the Characters 44:45 - Brandon's Documentary and the Prism Award 53:45 - Brandon on the Web 55:20 - Sign Off Comment on this episode here or by writing abionicpodcast@gmail.com Brandon's Links Facebook Twitter BJ Shea's Geek Nation Podcast Brandon Jerwa is a writer, musician, and recently, a documentarian. He's been writing comics for over 10 years - and is no stranger to licensed tie-in storytelling. In 2003 he broke into the industry - literally - as a fan, submitting a GI JOE script to DEVILS DUE COMICS who was publishing the title at the time. They liked it, hired him to write the story for A G.I. Joe anthology and then gave him the main book to write a few months later. He even had a GI JOE action figure made in his likeness! In 2006 Brandon went to work for Dynamite Comics, doing a stint on their HIGHLANDER tie-in before enjoying a very popular run on their BATTLESTAR GALLACTICA tie-in 2007. Since then he's written for more high-profile comics publishers like IMAGE COMICS, VERTIGO and DC Comics. In 2011 Brandon ventured into documentary filmmaking with an ambitious peak into the world of comic books and telling the stories of the people who make them. We'll talk more about that later on. In 2012 Brandon’s work on the Graphic Novel SHOOTERS about a Post-9-11 IRAQI War veteran WON a PRISM AWARD recognizing the comic’s accurate depiction of mental illness. Brandon is no stranger to podcasting, you can hear him DAILY on BJ SHEA'S GEEK NATION PODCAST which covers all things geeky in NEWS, TV, MOVIES, COMICS. On JUNE 15th of 2014, based on the success of their SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN SEASON SIX title (by James Kuhoric), Dynamite revealed to BLEEDING COOL.com that they would be releasing a BIONIC WOMAN SEASON FOUR title in SEPTEMBER. Written by Brandon Jerwa, art by David T. Cabrera and a cover for issue one by Sean Chen along with a photo cover of series star Lindsay Wagner. We'll get to Chen's cover in a moment, too. In that brief news item, Brandon is quoted saying, “If you’ve never seen the show, or haven’t read James Kuhoric’s Six Million Dollar Man comic, you’re still totally fine, longtime fans won’t be left out in the cold, though. The Bionic Woman: Season Four is a continuation of the classic TV series, so I’m definitely treating it as such in terms of continuity and thematic carry-through.”
