Hanukkah's not so “Happy” as Israel's bombardment of Gaza is far too dark for even the world's largest menorah to brighten. So, I sing a Hebrew prayer for Palestine as I light the Hanukkah candles for my “Anti-Zionist Hanukkah for Palestine the Victims of Henry Kissinger” on FDR, & I tell the Hanukkah Story, noting interesting parallels between Syrian Greek King Antiochus' occupation of ancient Judea & Zionist Netanyahu's occupation of modern Palestine, +between the Maccabees & Hamas, as well as the passionate desire for OIL (olive oil or natural gas) & the urgent need for the miracle of peace, The Bonobo Way. Warning: Explicit Conversations About Politics, Culture, & S3xuality! Capt'n Max and I also light the Hanukka, Hanuka or Chanuka (take your pick) candles for Henry Kissinger's millions of innocent victims, one of whom was my friend, the great Oscar-winning Cambodian star of “The Killing Fields,” Haing S. Ngor (RIP). And we watch former DrSusanBlock-Tv guest Rabbi Shmuley Boteach “terrified, running for [his] life” down a Tel Aviv hotel hallway, half-naked (wearing nothing but a towel), making a mockery of the thousands of Palestinians running through the rubble with nowhere to go, as Zionist bombs destroy their lives. Maria calls in on Callin to say Amen & Awomen to our Anti-Zionist Hannukah prayer for Palestine as well as Haing S. Ngor (“The Killing Fields” is one of her favorite films), and she sings two more SUZY award-winning songs. We also share sexy, lefty memories of many sizzling “Hot Wax Hanukkah” bacchanals in Bonoboville. Bible Seeds: The celebration of Hanukkah and Christmas is coming up this month. Hanukkah starts on December 07th and ends the 15th. Jerusalem was delivered from the cruel king, Antiochus IV (Epiphanes), by Maccabees in the month of Chislev (our month of December in 165 B.C.) This time of deliverance has been celebrated by the Jews as Hanukkah, or the Feast of Lights. The story is told in this podcast.Christmas starts four weeks before the 25th of December. It is referred to as The Christmas Advent and is recognized by many Christians as the period of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus on the 25th of December, which is Christmas day. His story is told in this podcast. And finally, here is my song for both Hanukkah and Christmas. It's called Invitation, the Hanukkah – Christmas song. It shows that both those of the Jewish faith and the Christian faith are waiting for the coming of the Messiah!

Fire is an integral part of humanity. It is studied in history, chemistry, physics, nature, and much more. It plays a role in folktales, cooking and all walks of life- providing warmth and light as well as danger. In these stories we will see how fire can play a part in all walks of life- whether it be through the sun and folklore of light, or the tiniest firefly, fire is part of all of humanity and all of nature. As an element it demands respect as it can be destructive and terrifying. But, it can also bring much warmth and wonder to one's life if you learn how to control it and respect it. It takes bravery to face a fire, but sometimes it comes just when you need it. So, as we listen through these stories, think about fire and the wonder of life that it can bring. On today's episode, enjoy the following:"The Boy and the Firefly" by Antonio Rocha from Cross Roads: Stories from Brazil & the World (7:08)Antonio Rocha is a native of Brazil and includes imagery from Brazil's vast landscape in a lot of his stories. In this story he details the adventure a little boy takes into the jungle when he follows a beautiful bird. A little like Mogli from The Jungle Book, this little boy encounters many different animals, simply asking them if they could lead him home. All refuse until a small firefly comes and lights his way home. This story plays the line between nature and humanity wonderfully. "The Rabbit In The Moon" by Antonio Sacre from Water Torture, the Barking Mouse, and Other Tales of Wonder (6:50)Antonio Sacre blends beautiful language of English and Spanish together in his fantastic tales and this tale is no different. This folk tale of why in Mexico you see a rabbit in the moon, describes the difference between bravery and beauty. When two characters go head to head- one beautiful and one brave- only one will come out triumphant and bring up the sun. "The Goblin and the Grocer" by Diane Wolkstein from Hans Christian Andersen Classic Stories (8:20)In this wonderful story Diane Wolkstein describes a mischievous goblin and a miscommunication. Diane Wolkstein is a storyteller based in New York who focuses on fairytales and folktales. This story is all about a goblin not knowing where his heart truly lies- with the grocer who gives him butter? Or with the magic book that sings the most beautiful lullabies? "Go Light The World on Fire" by Don White from Winning Streak (2:23)A singer songwriter and storyteller Don White shows us again just how to combine all of the light of stories with music in a wonderful way. Boston based Don White has been traveling and storytelling since before 2011, and has cultivated his craft throughout the years. In this wonderful song he depicts the real value of passion and light that can drive you to new places, and beyond the typical bounds of life. May we listen and reminisce, remembering to work towards what we love. "York, Maine" by Mike Agranoff from Or Would You Rather Get A Job (3:42)Just as fire can be beautiful and wonderful it can also be destructive and fear inspiring. In this song by Mike Agranoff we see a wonderful story of the importance of knowing what you care about most. The importance of family and love and the fire of friendship can not be overcome by the fire of destruction. "Hanukka in Chelm" by Joel Ben Izzy from Lights and Laughter (9:40)In this silly story Joel Ben Izzy describes the town of Chelm- a town of fools who think themselves smart. Joel Ben Izzy is an award-winning storyteller who begun storytelling in 1983. He has traveled in some 36 countries throughout North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. All of this traveling has informed a lot of his stories including this story about silly people and their battle against the elements. "Og Saves the World" by Mark Binder from A Holiday Present (3:28)Mark binder is classically trained as an actor, director and playwright, he often tours the world as a performer, transmitting the joy of story across distances. He tells stories for adults and children and in this story he tells the story of Og- a man that is afraid of the sun going away. May this ball of fire not be eaten up by the snake in the sky, and if Og has anything to do about it, it won't. "Gypsy Davey, One Year" After by Mike Agranoff from Or Would You Rather Get A Job (5:07)Mike Agranoff is a folk teller who “draws his material from sources as diverse as traditional ballads and fiddle tunes, Tin Pan Alley, contemporaries in the Folk World, and his own witty pen.” In this story song he describes the after-story of Gypsy Davey and what happened to him and his family after everything was over. It is a fun tale of sacrifice and new relationships, ever helped by time.

Festival of Lights: Hanukka vs. Christmas by Rabbi Joshua Maroof
Mikä on sosiaalisen median merkitys demokratialle? Ohjelman lopussa rabbi Simon Livson kertoo juutalaisten Hanukka-juhlasta. Lähetystyön etiikkaa puolestaan kommentoi ev.lut kirkon lähetystyön keskuksen johtaja Jaakko Rusama. Ohjelma on uusinta joulukuulta 2018. Toimittajina Anna Patronen ja Samuli Suonpää.
Jakso 47/59: Jakso sisältää kaksi kirjoitusta: Talmud ja vastin pidot on selostus Esterin kirjassa kerrotuista kuningatar Vastin pidoista, Talmud ja hanukka on kirjoitus hanukka-juhlan synnystä ja kynttilöiden sytyttämisestä. Luentaohjelmasarja. Suomennos: Riikka Tuori ja Tapani Harviainen. Keskustelijoina Simon Livson, Riikka Tuori ja Tapani Harviainen. Toimittaja Juha-Pekka Hotinen. Lukija Pekka Savolainen. Äänisuunnittelu: Timo Hintikka.
Dear Friends, Tübingen is not only the place of origin for TOS Ministries worldwide, but also of the March of Life Movement. Every year on Hanukka we celebrate the Jewish-Christian Cultural Encounter. This year, on Monday, Dec 3, we will have the grand opening of the exhibition "Never again Silence“ at the Market Square. On each of the nights of Hanukka, we will light the next candle at a different place in Tübingen. Also, we will have events on Thursday, Dec 6, with Cantor Nikolai David, and on Sunday, Dec 9, with Doron Almog (Founder of ALEH, the largest facility for the severly disabled in Israel). Today, there is a very special event in Erfurt on "80 Years Kristallnacht – Germany, where are you going?". Stephan Kramer, Prof. Gideon Greif, and I will be speaking. Tomorrow, on Saturday, Nov 10, there will be a big demonstration for Israel in Berlin against antisemitism and for Israel and for Jerusalem. We expect several thousand participants. Join us for these events!

Sunnuntai-iltana alkaa hanukka, keskeisesti juutalaisen kansan historiaan liittyvä juhla. Rabbi Simon Livsonia haastattelee Anna Patronen.

If someone gets married diring Hanukka where does he light? Dec 25, 2016
2016 is a year that's so nice we had to review it twice! And by nice, of course we mean so full of fuckery, we found it impossible to fit a full year end review into one episode. So in week one, we do a thorough cork popping, each cover our top five wig scratching moments of 2016. Don't worry though, we had your feelings in mind, and keep it light by cutting election talk to a minimum. We got you, boo. Keep your wigses and wices nearby because next week, we'll be telling you all about our top moments that had us flipping our wigs in 2016.

Today is February 9, 2016. We are now 39 days into the year. At the end of this week, on the 14th of February, the “holiday” season, will be officially over. The end, Done. Until…of course, Easter rolls around. Then we begin the next round of sugar-gorging, present shopping, holiday madness. Because people buy Easter presents now, apparently! It’s a thing. Hey! Let’s celebrate the crucifixion and mythological resurrecting of a Jew, by buying each other new X-boxes or pink Uggs! I know, let’s fill the Uggs with plastic grass and jelly beans! YES! I saw it on Pinterest! And then, let’s throw AWAY the Uggs, because they are seriously the ugliest footwear ever and I know because I lived through the 70’s and nobody over the age of four should be wearing squishy booties, ok? The holidays begin with Halloween, fly through thanksgiving, then it’s your December holiday of choice that requires a huge cash outlay and much eating of red and green baked goods, despite which December holiday you choose…Ok, maybe your baked goods were white and blue, the official Hanukka colors. Whatevs. Then it peaks out at New Year’s eve in a heave of exhaustion, gives us a short breather to pretend to dry out and get in shape, then revs back up again in a blaze of red and pink feelings of inadequacy and misery in mid-February…And then, just when you’re speaking to your spouse or partner again after they give you a new sports bra for Valentine’s day, and you think it’s safe to go back outside again without the assault of the holiday-industrial complex in your face at every turn, things slow down again just long enough for the snow to melt, the sun to return, the taxes to get done…it’s Easter, or, for my peeps, Passover or what I call Spring Thanksgiving, since my seders are really just about getting out the nice napkins and having friends over for a big meal with my handmade matzo. But somehow, Passover hasn’t yet been turned into a gifting or carding holiday, the way other formerly non-gifty-cardy holidays like Halloween have become, but I’m sure, somewhere, in a secret underground secure location, in Hallmark’s Kansas City HQ, someone is working on Passover cards and gifts. Maybe they already exist? Are there Passover cards? I haven’t been in a Hallmark store since the 90’s…are there still Hallmark stores? All of ‘em. Halloween, V-day, Easter, let alone Xmas and Hanukkah, have become cardy-gifty-candy-orgy spend-fests. Kids get Easter presents now, not just plastic baskets with a few milk chocolate bunnies and some Brach’s jelly beans like we did, when I was a kid. Oh wait, no we didn’t… But Valentine’s day?…Here we go again. I know what you’re thinking. Is she going to simultaneously drone and rage on about cookie-dough filled Crossonuts or brownie batter filled Englullers (that’s an English muffin-cruller mashup that I just invented, btw)? Is she? Am I? Well, do you want me too? I mean, after five years, and five Valentine’s days, do you really want to hear that all again? Even I’m sick of myself, and I’m my biggest fan! But, If you really, really, want me too….
Det är spaigt, juligt och judiskt i avsnitt 45 där vi får kroppslig närkontakt med den kinesiska kulturen. Det blir havsbad i november, ukrainska underkläder och ordentligt urartat raseri i bokhandeln!
Happy Thanksgiving (and Hanukka)! While this Deadpod comes on the day after I hope you'll enjoy this week's show as a tasty desert and a sweet way to start off your holiday weekend. I always enjoy bringing you acoustic Dead on the holidays and while I was tempted to save this tasty nugget for Christmas I decided I would play it right now instead. The last official acoustic set of the 70s, the band would not bring these back for 10 years. This set, from the famous Capitol Theater in Port Chester New York, features two songs that would never again be performed, 'Operator' and 'Wake Up Little Susie'. The set features some great banter as well, showing us a side of the band we didn't get to see much in the later years. I bring you this acoustic set as my way of saying thanks to all of you for being a very special part of my life. I do hope you enjoy it.
