It's Thursday, May 29th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Christianity growing in Asia despite persecution International Christian Concern reports that Christianity is growing in Asia despite severe persecution. In 2024, there were 415 million Christians in Asia, making up 8% of the continent's population. That's up from 3% in 2010. Since 2020, Christianity's growth rate in Asia has been 1.6% per year. The church is growing in Communist, Buddhist, and Islam-dominated countries like China, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Myanmar. All this growth continues despite persecution in the from of harassment, anti-conversion laws, restrictions on Bibles, arrests, imprisonments, and even violence and murder. In 2 Corinthians 4:8-10, the Apostle Paul wrote, “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed . … persecuted, but not forsaken … always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.” 50% of kids in United Kingdom do not live with both biological parents Research from the Marriage Foundation found that nearly half of children in the United Kingdom do not live with both of their biological parents. The report showed a record 45% of teenagers are not living with both parents by the age of 14. This trend is not driven by divorce which is at its lowest level since 1970. Instead, family breakdown is driven by a collapse in marriage rates. Harry Benson, the Research Director for the Marriage Foundation, said, “The level of family breakdown in the UK is at epidemic proportions and is set to get worse.” French House voted to legalize assisted suicide France's National Assembly voted in favor of a bill to legalize assisted suicide on Tuesday. The measure allows adult patients with painful and incurable illness to take a lethal substance. The bill must also pass in France's Senate. Matt Vallière, the Executive Director of the Patients' Rights Action Fund, warned, “The French National Assembly cast a fateful and terrible vote that will put a great many at risk of deadly harm and discrimination under an unprecedented euthanasia regime.” Proverbs 12:10 says, “The tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.” Supremes declines case of Christian kid's t-shirt affirming 2 genders In the United States, the Supreme Court declined to hear a free speech case Tuesday. The case involves a Massachusetts public school student named Liam Morrison. In 2023, he wore a T-shirt to class that said, “There are only 2 genders.” In response, the school banned him from wearing the shirt. The Morrison family challenged the decision; however, the courts ruled against them. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito authored a dissenting opinion to the court's decision to not hear the case. He said the free speech case “presents an issue of great importance for our Nation's youth.” Listen to viral comments from Liam, the boy at the epicenter. He made them before his school board. MORRISON: “What did my shirt say? Five simple words. ‘There are only two genders.' Nothing harmful, nothing threatening. Just a statement I believe to be a fact. “I have been told that my shirt was targeting a protected class. Who is this protected class? Are their feelings more important than my rights? … “Not one person, staff or student, told me that they were bothered by what I was wearing. Actually, just the opposite. Several kids told me that they supported my actions and that they wanted one too.” Defense Secretary Hegseth affirms homeschooling for military families Earlier this month, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the department to review how well it supports homeschooling for military families. The directive follows an executive order from President Donald Trump on supporting school choice in the military. Hegseth wrote, “Homeschooling offers an individualized approach for students and highlights the significant role parents play in the educational process.” Liberal Presbyterian Church (USA) keeps losing members The Presbyterian Church (USA) lost nearly 50,000 members last year according to its latest report. The liberal denomination has been losing a similar number of members each year since the COVID-19 pandemic. Their unbiblical stands have cemented their own demise. In 2014, it voted to allow pastors to marry two homosexual men or two lesbians. Plus, PC(USA) contends that there should be no laws restricting abortion. At its current rate of decline, the PC(USA) will likely fall below one million members this year. Protestors harass Christians promoting Biblically-defined family, sexuality And finally, MayDay USA held a prayer event in Seattle, Washington last Saturday. The group gathers Christians to seek God, proclaim the Gospel, and promote the “sacredness of gender and family as defined by God.” In response, violent rioters, including Antifa members, showed up to harass the Christians. This ended in police making over 20 arrests. Sadly, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell blamed the Christians for the violence. In response, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino announced, “We have asked our team to fully investigate allegations of targeted violence against religious groups at the Seattle concert. Freedom of religion isn't a suggestion.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, May 29th, in the year of our Lord 2025. *All The President's Minutes* is a podcast where conversations about movies, journalism, politics and history meet. Each show we use the seminal and increasingly prescient 1976 film *All The President's Men* as a portal, to engage with the themes and the warnings of the film resonating since its release. In a special bonus episode, I join director Matthew Miele to discuss his great upcoming documentary, *Alan Pakula: Going For Truth*. For showtimes visit JIFF here. ( https://www.jiff.com.au/films/alan-pakula-going-for-truth ) *About Matthew Miele* ( https://quixoticendeavors.com/about/matthew-miele/ ) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- A storyteller above all else, Matthew Miele has drawn upon his various experiences in music composition, publishing, and screenwriting to become a successful producer and director of critically acclaimed, and internationally renowned, feature-length documentaries. Miele has always called upon his curiosity and interests during his most impressionable childhood years to inform his storytelling. Enduring memories of going with his family to see the department store holiday windows lining Fifth Avenue in New York, allowed him to witness a kind of storytelling bursting with fantasy, nostalgia, and spectacle. This would later manifest into his first breakout box office hit, SCATTER MY ASHES AT BERGDORF’S (2013), the feature documentary about the world’s most signature fashion emporium, Bergdorf Goodman. With the success of Bergdorf’s at the box office and fast becoming one of the top 10 documentaries of 2013, Miele and Tiffany & Co. mutually approached one another about telling the brand’s history, resulting in CRAZY ABOUT TIFFANY’S, released as Miele’s theatrical followup in 2016. Following the successful release of two high profile documentaries, Miele was pursued by more iconic brands, including Estee Lauder, to tell their storied histories in his signature style. While brand storytelling certainly became a lucrative niche for Miele, his personal passion lead him on an ambitious pursuit that meant a great deal to his formative journey. The photojournalistic work of the legendary lensman, Harry Benson would bring Miele up close and personal with the iconic Scottish photographer whose images are unequalled in their depth and impact over the last 50 years. HARRY BENSON: SHOOT FIRST! Would go on to be released in 2016 chronicling Harry’s iconic photographs of The Beatles, MLK Jr., Nixon, Namath, Johnny Carson, Richard Pryor, 12 Presidents starting with Eisenhower and through to Obama and Trump, Michael Jackson—the list, as seen in the film, becomes impressively infinite. Miele’s next pursuit was documenting the pop culture history and continued relevance of his favourite place, but also the unequalled Manhattan mainstay, The Carlyle Hotel. Known as the most glamorous hotel in the world because of the loyalty of its esteemed guests, Miele convinced The Carlyle to give him rare access to capture the essence and celebrated patina of the classic hotel. ALWAYS AT THE CARLYLE would be released in 2018 with appearances by George Clooney, Roger Federer, Anjelica Huston, Anthony Bourdain, Woody Allen, Sofia Coppola, Jon Hamm, Rita Wilson, Tommy Lee Jones, Lenny Kravitz, Naomi Campbell, and over 125 loyal guests and staff. The filmmaker Alan J. Pakula would become Miele’s next focus as Pakula was Miele’s favourite filmmaker when he was first experiencing cinema in the 1970s and 80s. While most kids were watching Star Wars and Indiana Jones , Miele was also a fan of more serious classics, specifically Pakula’s work in All The President’s Men, Presumed Innocent, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Pelican Brief, Klute, Sophie’s Choice, etc. It was always Miele’s hope to one day meet Pakula and express his gratitude for his work since he rarely was afforded the proper spotlight for his work, but Pakula’s life would be dramatically cut short by a tragic car accident on the Long Island Expressway in 1998. In 2017, Miele visited with Pakula’s widow, the esteemed biographer Hannah Pakula, and explained his hope to document Alan’s story and career. After a two-year production interviewing Pakula’s family, friends, as well as his film’s casts and crew, Miele is pleased to be releasing his latest film, ALAN PAKULA: GOING FOR TRUTH featuring Meryl Streep, Robert Redford, Julia Roberts, Harrison Ford, Jane Fonda, Dustin Hoffman, Jeff Bridges, etc. Up next for Miele and currently in production are feature documentaries on the legendary costume designer Bob Mackie, the most honoured Hollywood screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky, more journalistic offerings with a focus on one specific case involving racial profiling, an intimate look at a family horribly affected by the current opioid epidemic, and finally a foray into narrative feature storytelling with a biopic on Miele’s favourite artist, Norman Rockwell. The tale of an unexpected encounter between 20th century legends - a meeting which created a new template for global celebrity. February 1964: The Beatles fly into Miami, sparking Beatlemania as they prepare to perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. Meanwhile in a low-rent Miami gym, the underdog Cassius Clay trains to fight reigning champion Sonny Liston for the world title. The pundits say Clay hasn't a hope. Quite unexpectedly, the paths of these legendary figures cross. British photographer Harry Benson arranges for The Beatles to visit Cassius Clay in the gym. Clay picks up Ringo and swings him around the ring as if he's no heavier than a toddler, as the other band-members lie at his feet. Clay pretends to knock all four Beatles down with a single punch. The resulting images remain in the memory long after this brief encounter. The Beatles triumph on TV. Cassius Clay amazes all the boxing writers by defeating Liston. They suddenly both find themselves on the cusp of a new kind of stardom - they're young, outspoken and able to capture the global imagination. John Wilson reports from Miami on the background to this unique encounter, with the memories of three people who were there at the time: photographer Harry Benson, who was travelling with the Beatles, writer Robert Lipsyte, who was covering the fight for the New York Times as a rookie reporter, and fight doctor Ferdie Pacheco, then working at the gym in Miami. All witnessed the moment when Cassius met The Beatles. John also taps the memories of Paul McCartney. Producer John Goudie.
