Host Karl attended the ChannelPro Live event in Columbus, Ohio. He interviewed two folks who are doing some cool things. Wayne Small from Australia is retooling himself and his business to take a new approach to the Virtual CISO Role. Rather than just take a few vendor-focus courses, or training based on a standardized checklist, Wayne is working through a master's degree program in security that focuses on security at the highest and most technical level. We discuss the details. Mark Moreno has a very interesting (and rare) niche. He focuses on companies who are solidly in the 25-100 desktop range but have massive revenue and enterprise-level budgets. This niche brings some unusual problems dues to the larger nature of the projects. But money is not one of the issues! Mark talks about how he got started. Interestingly, he still only does work with people who signed managed service agreements with these folks. Mark is also working with Harry Brelsford on the MSP Rescue shows. Harry Brelsford is the founder of SMB Nation. In this interview Harry announces a new Marketing as a Service platform called Pivot. We talk about marketing and analytics in the SMB community – and a lot more. See http://SMBNation.com/pivot. Harry stresses that modern marketing requires analytics. You are wasting money if you just do a little SEO and buy Google ads. In addition, there are lots of things involved in marketing that the average MSP owner can’t do or shouldn’t do. You really don’t have time for analyzing your clients, split-testing ads, and all the other modern elements of marketing. Subscriptions start at $300/month. You need one one client to pay for that. This article was originally posted May 18, 2012 on Cloud Services Roundtable. Reports from the SMB 150 Banquet 2012 May 16th – Los Angeles – SMB Nation put on a nice banquet to celebrate the 2nd Annual SMB 150 Influencers. This was a great event. To be honest, this event started for me about lunchtime as I met with a series of great people that I don’t get to see very often. Download the SMB 150 report now On Friday I asked Harry Brelsford from SMB Nationto give us a brief report on the event. That’s included here. In fact, Harry kicks off the podcast. While I was in Los Angeles, I interviewed a few folks. So those very short interviews are here as well. Interviewees include Denis Wilson, Terry VanWinkel, and Jerry Koutavas. I do have to say that I was really impressed that people came all the way from the eastern side of the U.S. But I was more impressed with people who came from Canada, Brazil, the UK, and Australia. I’m not sure how Harry does this, but he really knows how to put on a community event! And a tip of the hat goes to co-sponsor SMBTN for helping with every stage, including the voting process. Of course, a number of the SMB 150 are in SMBTN as they are strong contributors to the community. I’m sorry sorry that many 150-ers could not make it. But I totally understand!
