There's been a lot of buzz about Roman De Peralta, the heart and soul behind the esteemed Hawaiian recording group Kolohe Kai, after Iam Tongi sang his song "Cool Down" at the "American Idol" finale. Amid all the buzz, De Peralta has also recently released a fresh new track titled “Hope,” in a time when the world could use it the most. The song is a poignant commentary on the issues plaguing society today, such as hate crimes and gun violence. Yet, it also emanates a sense of unity and peace, encapsulated in the powerful image of a family enjoying a tranquil sunset together. In this episode, Billy V talks to De Peralta about the new song as well as what it was like hearing Iam Tongi singing his song on "American Idol." The Podcasters Tolu convene to rank our Top 5 Dwayne Johnson/The Rock movies. We start by assessing the NBA Finals after the Miami Heat take Game 2 in Denver, and whether it changes our series' outlook. We rank movies starring Uncle Dwayne, from the beginnings of The Scorpion King to growing with and motivating the Gridiron Gang and evolving to hitching multiple vehicles to a helicopter in Hobbs & Shaw. Our top spots include the birth of a comedy super team, a jungle ensemble that reimagined a classic, and a jungle cult classic with a little bit of lightning, little bit of thunder. Quick discussion on whether or not Johnson appropriates or showcases Polynesian culture, before talking about how the Director of the new live-action "Moana" movie is not a Pacific Islander and how that could affect the telling of a Pasefika story. Forest reveals that if you Google "Moana" story writers, its all white faces. Transitioning to Taika Waititi's keynote address at The Hollwood Reporter's Diversity summit, where the New Zealand director said he's "tired of the diversity conversation, tired of the inclusivity conversation" and how advancing casting diversification and representation has been mistakenly taken to mean every show should have every type of person and ethnicity in it. We give Forest the time to defend his GOAT from the slander of Scottie Pippen, who called Jordan a "horrible" player. How much would we pay if there was a toll just to get on the freeway, like LA county is reportedly discussing. We close out this episode with our shoutouts to Washington State Triple Jump champ Matthew Fiso; King Koda; Forest's nephew; Irae Hosea; Big Uce Radio Pasefika Food Festival featuring Iam Tongi and Tenelle, Lakewood, WA (July 29); @natpicking; everyone getting through their workweek; Big Brother Boat; Le Vasa Island Apparel; Junior Seau; and our Panel. Coming up...Tokelau went into lockdown on Friday Tokelau after confirmation of their first community case of Covid-19 case; Also..We check in on the recovery effort in the Northen Mariana Islands after Typhoon Mawar; And later on...We sitdown with Iam Tongi the first Pasifika singer to win American Idol.

Carl & Nackie discuss American Idol winner, Iam Tongi, PIT Shine Family Day and so much more
Iam Tongi's victory on American Idol, the Typhoon in Guam and Tina Turner's passing are the topics for the hosts.
'It took me a long time to be proud of myself'. Iam Tongi has become the first Pacific person to win American Idol - and says there's no reason why others can't follow in his footsteps. The 18-year-old, who is of Tongan and Samoan descent wowed the judges and the world with his performances, which he says were inspired by his late father. Iam Tongi spoke to RNZ Pacific's Finau Fonua about the moment he won.
And we speak with American Idol winner Iam Tongi, the Hawaiian born singer of Tongan and Samoan heritage, whose soulful singing and touching personal journey captivated American audiences and won him fans all around the world.
Tokelau remains in lockdown following the announcement of its first Covid-19 community cases; Rota Island in the Northern Marianas is in recovery mode after typhoon Mawar ripped through with wind speeds over 200 kilometers an hour; The Pacific is awash with shipwrecks, many of them oil tankers with holds full of oil which pose a threat to the environment. We speak with one of the organisations that is trying to do something about it; And we speak with American Idol winner Iam Tongi, the Hawaiian born singer of Tongan and Samoan heritage, whose soulful singing and touching personal journey captivated American audiences and won him fans all around the world.
If you know me even a little bit, you know that I like to have the conversations. I believe in addressing things, not ignoring -a polite way of saying avoiding them. My 10 year old niece knows this about me, and told me I had to watch American Idol “because there's this guy who's really really good but also, Aunt Sam, (said reallllly quickly, because she talks a mile a minute and never seems to need to stop for a breath ) his dad died and he's sad, like you, and he talks about his dad like you talk about Uncle Jim.” Ten years old. And she recognizes the difference between how I have the conversations and how most of the rest of the world….. does not. I started watching Iam Tongi's journey, from his incredibly moving audition to his equally powerful victory. And I discovered that American Idol addresses grief better than the world. ABC handles grief better than the world. On today's episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I discuss American Idol Winner, Iam Tongi's journey. Not his American Idol journey. His healing journey. And I discuss what the world can learn from ABC. What is up folks?!?1?! The crew is back at full power! We begin by discussing the local legend IAM TONGI's amazing American Idol victory and what we see being next for his career. We transition to basketball where LJ and Mike express their sorrows about the Lakers getting swept by the Nuggets.
Brian Kohberger the grad student charged with the slashing death of four University of Idaho students was in court today - giving us our first look at the suspect in months. A “not guilty” plea was entered on his behalf. Could there be new evidence in the case? As Ann Mercogliano reports, investigators are looking at the computer system in Kohberger's car to determine where he was the night of the slayings. And, we've all heard the old adage, “the show must go on.” But has Taylor Swift been taking risks by soldiering on with her live show during torrential downpours? Once again, Swift was on stage singing in the rain. But was she safe? Plus, there's a new champ on American Idol. It's 18-year-old high school senior -- Iam Tongi from Hawaii. The season was one in which some fans were critical of judge Katy Perry who raised eyebrows a few times this season, including when she seemed to mommy shame one contestant. She spoke exclusively with Inside Edition. And, turning now to politics, South Carolina Senator, Tim Scott, today became the fifth Republican to declare for president. Expected to announce this week is Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis. And though he's not yet a candidate, his wife Casey is already finding herself under attack.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Monday and Sgt. Chris Kim of Crimestoppers joins us, plus Iam Tongi is your new American Idol! yessah blessah
Long-time Dallas Mavericks fan and basketball lover, Migz, joins the show to discuss the Nuggets sweep of the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic's futures in the Big D, Iam Tongi winning American Idol, and whether elderly American politicians should be the ones proposing and voting on new legislation. This episode opens with us live-watching the final four minutes of the Lakers 2023 season and reacting in real-time to Los Angeles withering away late in the fourth quarter, after fumbling a 15-point halftime lead. Forest emphatically defends the allegations that the Lakers getting swept would tarnish LeBron James' legacy in any way, and we also dive into whether James or 7'4" French phenom Victor Wembanyama had more hype leading up to their NBA debut. We then discuss Iam Tongi capturing America's hearts on the way to becoming the Season 21 American Idol, and what it could mean to the future of other Pacific Islander musicians, artists and creatives. We close this episode reflecting on Sen. Dianne Feinstein's (D-CA) recent return to The Hill and whether age or term limits should be imposed. Gets kinda ageist at the end but as people who have to live with the future that older generations won't, I feel we should have more of a say into how our government informs and protects the people, water, land, etc. We wrap with our shoutouts to Lew AhSoon and Sean AhPing; Travis Thompson, 6/23/23; Paul McCoy & Gina Han; Our Panel, Maddie & Ryan Polaski, IG: @TattoosBy.Woes, Le Vasa Island Apparel, “Right Place, Right Time” by OhHelloMarcus and SefaM and our Listeners.
