This week’s episode is a juicy one - it’s the last (at least for now) of the India Series. We jump right in at the top of the episode with the discussion on Mental Conviction. This topic came up while Kisma was at the Vedanta Academy and she wanted to share some of the amazing lessons that came from the discussion. Kisma raised the question, ‘what is the difference between fanaticism and conviction?” To sum up Swamiji’s response (or at least attempt to), the differences between the two come down to being led by our emotions versus being led by our intellect. We deep dive into how this can show up in our daily lives, Nick talks a bit about where it shows up in his life, and we share more of Swamiji’s teachings. When we’re in a fanatical space, and being led by emotion, we tend to be a bit scattered. We’re up, we’re down and here or there at any given moment. Mental conviction, however, requires steadfastness, with an idea in mind that we can use to help keep us centered. Today’s conversation is about us, and no one else. Remember, everyone is on their own journey and, not only are we not here to judge, we can only truly assess this with ourselves. This is why it’s important to check in with ourselves and stay attuned to what’s going on with us. Any of us can fall into a space of being fanatical about something, which moves us away from the Self. Tune in to learn more about how we can stay in action, intellectually sound and focused on what we’re here to do - being lead intellectually towards the Self. Resources: - Nick - Email Instagram: Time Stamps:   1:26 Having Mental Conviction “I think it’s something that everybody can develop but I think certain people have a little bit more of a predisposition to have this. It’s almost like they’re obstinance works in their favor in certain ways.” - NICK   6:31 Kisma Reads Swamiji’s Answer Tune in at 6:31 to hear Kisma read from her notes about his response during the group session 10:00 Result of Being Fanatical “If it’s selfish in nature and they’re fanatical about it, they’ll move away from the very thing they seek which is the Self and consciousness.” - KISMA 17:04 Distractions “Think about all the different things that come your way and all the different ideas, all the different things that you’ve been told and just all the other stuff to do. If you’re not convicted to do what you’re here to do, even just on a daily basis like executing a to-do list, you’ll get distracted. There’s a mental conviction to be like ‘I’m completing this list.’ That’s something that I see a lot of people really struggle with and it really hurts them in their life. They don’t follow through, they don’t bring some things to completion and it creates more and more chaos into their world. It takes conviction to get there.” - NICK 20:55 Finding and Solving “That Thing.” “Man, when you really know how to find that thing and solve that thing, they get to access that wisdom and that knowledge that’s already there within them and really put it to amazing use. I just think that’s cool.” - NICK
