Katie and special guest/surrogate sister Christine murder without consequences as they rewatch: The Purge! It's a movie all about how in the future/past (since this takes place in 2022 LOL) all crime is legal one day of the year to help people "Release The Beast" #redbull. When an affluent family's young, possibly future serial killer son, lets in a "Bloody Stranger" during their lockdown, a gang of nepo-babies come in to destroy their trash security systems and reek havoc! This movie asks many ethical questions such as: Would you really let a stranger die on the street if you could instead save them? Would you instead throw your son out onto the street for letting that person in? Would you reenact Scooby-Doo with your family if your home was being invaded and be all split up? And - would you too wear business casual the entire day/night of the Purge!? Seriously why did they do that!? Released in 2013, it was written and directed by James DeMonaco and features Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Max Burkholder, and Adelaide Kane.

"The Purge" is a 2013 dystopian horror thriller film written and directed by James DeMonaco. The film is set in a future America where the government has instituted an annual event called "The Purge," which takes place on March 21st and lasts for 12 hours, from 7 PM to 7 AM. During this time, all crime, including murder, becomes legal, and emergency services are suspended. The idea behind The Purge is that it allows society to release its pent-up aggression and cleanse itself of criminal elements. The story primarily focuses on the Sandin family, consisting of James (played by Ethan Hawke), his wife Mary (played by Lena Headey), and their two children, Charlie and Zoey. James sells security systems designed to protect homes during The Purge, and the family appears to be well-prepared for the annual event. However, their sense of security is shattered when their son Charlie lets a wounded stranger, who is being pursued by a group of masked purgers, into their home. As the night unfolds, the Sandin family must defend their home against a group of violent purgers who demand that they release the injured man. The film explores themes of social inequality, the consequences of violence, and the moral dilemmas faced by the characters as they grapple with the brutal reality of The Purge. "The Purge" received mixed to positive reviews from critics and was praised for its unique premise and suspenseful moments. It also spawned several sequels, including "The Purge: Anarchy" (2014), "The Purge: Election Year" (2016), "The First Purge" (2018), and a television series titled "The Purge" (2018-2019). These subsequent installments further explored the concept of The Purge and its societal implications. Overall, "The Purge" is known for its tense and thrilling portrayal of a nightmarish future where chaos reigns for 12 hours, and it has become a notable entry in the horror genre. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/100horrors/message
Believe it or not, it's already been 10 years since the release of James DeMonaco's breakout hit, “The Purge.” The micro-budget horror film would go on to earn a massive box office and devoted fanbase, spawning four sequels and multi-season TV series. And in honor of the film's 10th Anniversary, DeMonaco joins The Playlist Podcast to talk about his 2013 hit and how a fractured country inspired him to make a film about people killing each other for sport. Oh yeah, and he also teases what might come in the future. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/support

Writer and Director Jeremy Robbins was Story Editor for 2 Seasons of the Blumhouse horror anthology series — The Purge — based on the successful film franchise (grossing $500M+ worldwide) of the same name; he worked closely with James DeMonaco, creator of the franchise, in allowing viewers to explore a time in which all crime is declared legal for a 12 hour period. The show aired on USA Network and Hulu, and has featured actors including Gabriel Chavarria, Lee Allen Tergesen, Derek Luke and William Baldwin through its run. Prior to The Purge, Jeremy wrote and directed the acclaimed short films Newsworthy and Aftermath, both featuring his younger brother Noah Robbins (The Trial of the Chicago 7; Indignation; Miss Sloane; Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), and the latter featuring Will Rogers (Bridge of Spies; A Rainy Day in New York), both in standout performances. He also wrote APEX, the pulse-pounding wilderness thriller about “man, woman and nature” which was featured on The Blacklist in 2021. A BA graduate from Yale, Jeremy returned to Columbia, where he earned his MFA in Film, as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Film. We discuss his family's encouragement for the arts; the seeds which lay the foundation for his desire to attend film school; writing for a major television show; working with Barry Sonnenfeld and Adam McKay; and retaining authenticity as an artist, writer and director.Opening Credits: 1st Contact - Seeds of Life; Closing Credits: HoliznaCC0 - Manic WarLord Mother
The Purge franchise is one of the most iconic dystopian action horror series of all time and the man behind it, James DeMonaco is not stopping anytime soon.Jame is our guest today and even though we talk a great deal about the various Purge films he's either written or directed, which are all fan favorites, we start off with his most recently released film, This Is The Night, that was digitally released on September 21, 2021, after a prior theater release on Sep 17, 2021.This Is The Night, drama stars Frank Grillo, Lucius Hoyos, Jonah Hauer-King, Bobby Cannavale, and Naomi Watts. It is set in the summer of 1982 Staten Island with the release of Rocky III as its backdrop. The story tells of an average teen who embarks on a quest in his Rocky Balboa-obsessed town that swirls in his family members. Watts and Grillo will play with his parents. His family must confront its greatest challenges and the family realizes that the only way to live is like there's no tomorrow.I have tons of questions for James in this interview, which I am sure you, my tribe will appreciate. I have been a fan of some of his work but clueless he had written other top-ranked films on my list, it came as an exciting shock to discover more that James has written, directed, or produced. Besides screenwriting, directing, and producing projects like the Purge movies, he's also written for TV and gets credit for writing The Negotiator, Staten Island, Jack, and Assault on Precinct 13. As a child of 5 years old, he would beg his more for a pass to watch the 4:30 ABC network movies and would visit the cinema often. At seven years old, he went to see, Apocalypse at the cinema and that changed everything for him. Leaving that theater with the desire to be part of that experience of whatever happened on the screen. Through screenwriting, he landed his first production gig with director Francis Coppola, for the 1996 movie, Jack, starring Robin Williams. The inspiration for The Purge was birthed during James's time living in Paris and Canada. It came mainly, from his relationship against guns even though he had grown up around cops. The experience in Europe and Canada, in general, were the complete opposites he had observed. This was around the time mass shootings in America were on the rise in the early 2000s. Combined with an aftermath dark thought from a road rage incident curious about what it would be like if we all had a day pass, turned into a masterpiece original screenplay. But dressed in a science fiction dystopian world. The Purge: Anarchy - A couple is driving home when their car breaks down just as the Purge commences. Meanwhile, a police sergeant goes out into the streets to get revenge on the man who killed his son, and a mother and daughter run from their home after assailants destroy it. The five people meet up as they attempt to survive the night in Los Angeles. It was challenging to find someone willing to finance a ‘nihilistic' and ‘un-American movie life The Purge. James and his partners got about fifty rejections because of how dark the script seemed. Until finally with help from Jason Blum who said it was a great fit for his low-budget horror model on his deal with Universal Studios, to be produced by Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes. The studio took a shot at it and the first Purge movie in 2013 albeit on a $3 million budget, grossed $89.3 million. The film starred Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Adelaide Kane, and Max Burkholder as members of a wealthy family who find themselves endangered by a gang of murderers during the annual Purge, a night during which all crime, including murder, is temporarily legal. The franchise includes The Purge: Anarchy( 2014), The Purge: Election Year (2016), a prequel, The First Purge (2018), The Purge TV series(2018 to 2019), and The Forever Purge (2021).There is a sixth Purge movie in the works. And the franchise has grossed overall over $450 million against a combined production budget of $53 million. We go deep in the weeds on these projects and James's writing process.Enjoy my conversation with James DeMonaco.

Crowd pleasers Squid Game and Bridgerton could not be further apart in subject matter, but they are currently the two most streamed programmes in Netflix's history. We get under the bonnet and behind the mask of these phenomena by examining their precedents on both the big and small screen, tracing how previous works have covered similar themes in so many different ways. Ellen looks at the death-match films from cinema history that form the DNA of Squid Game, with the help of The Purge creator James DeMonaco, critic Anna Bogutskaya and academic Dr Jinhee Choi. And Mark is joined by screenwriter Andrew Davies and historical consultant Hannah Greig to investigate Bridgerton's self-consciously modern style influences in historical drama, from The Draughtsman's Contract to Sofia Coppola's derided but influential 2006 picture Marie Antoinette. Writer James DeMonaco Talks his Latest Film The Forever Purge Available Now from Universal Home Entertainment. James DeMonaco is now competing with the Saw franchise as we are now in the eighth installment (counting the short films and television series) of the Purge franchise with The Forever Purge. The New York native, who we forgive for coupling his love of the Yankees with the Jets...seriously, the Jets? Sigh, I digress, the New York native initially started created the franchise out of his fear of guns and gun violence, leading to a series of films and a series that plays into those fears. The only thing that frightens him (and myself) even more demon possession stories, especially The Exorcist. Now, with The Forever Purge, what happens when one night of blood lust just is not enough to satisfy those urges and with that notion and the reputation of Texas' love of guns, we have the perfect setting for the film. Official Synopsis: From Blumhouse, the legendary producers that brought you Halloween (2018) and The Invisible Man, the lawless next installment of The Purge franchise, featuring more action, suspence and thrills than ever before as one night descends into a never-ending Purge. Arriving just in time for your pre-Halloween horror movie marathon, The Forever Purge is yours to own on Digital September 14, 2021, and on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD September 28, 2021 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Featuring an alternative storyboard opening, deleted scene and a behind-the-scenes look inside the creation of the stunts, wild costumes, action and gore, The Forever Purge is the perfect addition to your collection and "one of the best Purge movies yet!" The Purge franchise is one of the most iconic dystopian action horror series of all time and the man behind it, James DeMonaco is not stopping anytime soon.Jame is our guest today and even though we talk a great deal about the various Purge films he's either written or directed, which are all fan favorites, we start off with his most recently released film, This Is The Night, that was digitally released on September 21, 2021, after a prior theater release on Sep 17, 2021.This Is The Night, drama stars Frank Grillo, Lucius Hoyos, Jonah Hauer-King, Bobby Cannavale, and Naomi Watts.
James DeMonaco is the writer, director, and overall creative mastermind behind “The Purge” franchise. And over the past decade or so, the filmmaker has focused on his massively popular thriller franchise. However, his new film, “This is the Night,” is something completely different, but it also might be his most personal to date. And on this episode of The Playlist Podcast, DeMonaco joins the show to go deep about his new film, as well as the future of “The Purge.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theplaylist/message
Top 5: The Purge Franchise - Ray Taylor ShowSubscribe: InspiredDisorder.com/rts Binge Ad Free: InspiredDisorder.com/Patreon Show topic: The Purge is an American anthology media franchise centered on a series of dystopian action horror films distributed by Universal Pictures and produced by Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes, which are written and in some cases also directed by James DeMonaco, who was inspired by a Star Trek: The Original Series episode, "The Return of the Archons". The films present a seemingly normal, crime-free America in the near-future. But the truth is that the country is a dystopia which celebrates an annual national holiday known as the Purge, a day in which all crime, including murder, becomes legal for a 12-hour period. The franchise began in 2013 with The Purge, directed by creator DeMonaco, who directed two of the sequels and wrote the screenplays for all films in the series. A fifth installment, The Forever Purge, was released on July 2, 2021. In addition to the films, the franchise has spawned a twenty-episode television series which premiered on September 4, 2018 and concluded on December 17, 2019; DeMonaco wrote its pilot episode. The franchise has received a generally mixed critical reception, mainly for the screenwriting and clichéd stories, but was praised for the concept, acting, style, and action sequences. The franchise has grossed overall over $450 million against a combined production budget of $53 million.Sponsored By:Patreon.com/InspiredDisorder $3 membership.*Binge full week of Ray Taylor Show (audio+Video)*Massive discount code for The Many Faces*Download raw photoshop filesStationHouseCoffee.com and @StationHouseCoffee on Instagram for premium small batch, single source coffee.InspiredDisorder.com/Ting $25 CREDIT! This week, the Brides get smacked around with a social commentary 2x4 as we try to find anything good to say about 2013's The Purge. You know a movie is awful when even the great Lena Headey and usually reliable Ethan Hawke can't save it. This movie is atrociously written, poorly paced, and its hamfisted attempt at SERIOUS MESSAGING ABOUT AMERICA is all the more infuriating when looked at in a post-2016 election lens. Also, WHY is the focus on the affluent white family when the film's commentary keeps insisting that they're the ones who don't suffer the worst of the Purge's effects? And dear god, this director really thought was saying something profound with all of the verbal abuse heaped on the Black homeless man! This episode is blessedly short because honestly, what is there to say about this piece of garbage that hasn't already been said? Note: We do acknowledge that the prequel and subsequent Purge television show do a much better job of showing the intricacies of this whole 'all crime is legal for 12 hours' thing, but this movie just takes a good, interesting idea and does the equivalent of a bellyflop off the platform. Do you want a better home invasion movie? Go watch The Strangers (2008). The Purge. 2013. Directed and written by James DeMonaco. Starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey.

This summer, all the rules are broken as a sect of lawless marauders decides that the annual Purge does not stop at daybreak and instead should never end in The Forever Purge. Vaulting from the record-shattering success of 2018's The First Purge, Blumhouse's infamous terror franchise hurtles into innovative new territory as members of an underground movement, no longer satisfied with one annual night of anarchy and murder, decide to overtake America through an unending campaign of mayhem and massacre. this week's show is a celebration of an occasion that is not merely an important day on the movie calendar but also an acknowledgment of what for some of us could be called a lifestyle. A few of you could care less about the release of the new motion picture, "Forever Purge", the latest installment in the "Purge" franchise, but for those who've thrilled to the many twists and turns this series has taken, it's really brought out something deep within. So we attend "Purge" fan conventions, write "Purge" fan fiction, encourage our employers to observe "Dress Up Like The Movie (Or TV Series) 'Purge' Fridays". Speaking personally, I've seen no fewer than a half dozen relationships go down the tubes because my partners (with all due respect) insisted "It's only a movie" as opposed to, y'know, the prophecy. (I find all of this highly ironic because I know of some philistines reading this are the types who absolutely lose their little minds over anything related to the Star Wars or Harry Potter cinematic universes when neither of those (inferior) franchises explore anything having to do with dressing up like Slipknot and all crime being legal) Anyhow, due to copyright considerations (and an active restraining order against me by series creator James DeMonaco), this episode features no dialogue from the “Purge” films or any conversations with persons involved in the production of such. However, I've attempted to improvise with musical selections for 2 hours + and if you're disappointed, at least you have the opening of “Forever Purge” to look forward to #onlyintheatres
Episode 252: The Crew's reviewing James DeMonaco's The Purge. The film started a still growing franchise with each entry grossing more at the box-office than the last. This first installment keeps the budget low by isolating the events to one family's home. It's a smart move, but after the amazing title sequence, you want the film to show more of the world. Which the director did in the sequels… when he had more than $3 million. The Crew discusses. If you like our music intro, head over to Soundcloud and hear more amazing music from aquariusweapon. Sometimes you just need a good ol' fashioned murder night. The Purge, written and directed by James DeMonaco, takes us to a version of the United States where an annual night of legally sanctioned home invasions and murders leads to year-round peace . It's pretty crazy. We had mixed feelings about this movie and our rule for survival is... pretty simple. Let's talk about The Purge!

Season 2, you wild kids! Join us in the second season as we break down the first movie in the Purge series. The original movie, released in 2013 and directed by James DeMonaco, is an accomplished horror thriller (and sometimes near-satire) film with a great cast on a relatively lean budget. All crime - including murder! - is legal for one 12 hour period per year. A wealthy suburban family goes into lockdown at their house during the annual purge; at least, until things start to go sideways. The movie is fraught with murderous neighbors, government propaganda, and bad boyfriends. Plan your purge party or maybe just get out of town for a couple of days because we're only one bad election away from our very own purge. Intro and Outro music by Zach Pfeifer.

#ThePurge The films present a near-future dystopian America which celebrates an annual national holiday known as the Purge, in which all crimes, including murder, are legal for a 12-hour period. #Purge is an American media franchise centered on a series of dystopian action horror films distributed by Universal Pictures and produced by Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes, mainly created by James DeMonaco. In 2014, following an economic collapse and rising social unrest, a political organization named The New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) is formed and is voted into office. The organization establishes a new totalitarian government and a police state. In 2016, the NFFA devises a plan to help stabilize American society and later in 2017, the 28th Amendment to the U.S Constitution is ratified. weki This amendment establishes a 12-hour event known as "The Purge" which would take place from 7 PM on March 21 to 7 AM on March 22 wherein all crime becomes legal. Before the Purge begins, the Emergency Broadcast System is activated with rules and a prayer saying "Blessed be our New Founding Fathers and America, a nation reborn" before ending with "May God be with you all". The rules for the annual Purge are as follows: Sirens blare throughout the land to signal the start and end of The Purge. All police, fire, and medical emergency services remain unavailable or suspended for the full 12-hour Purge. The Purge is an American media franchise centered on a series of dystopian action horror films distributed by Universal Pictures and produced by Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes, mainly created by James DeMonaco. The films present a near-future dystopian America which celebrates an annual national holiday known as the Purge, in which all crimes, including murder, are legal for a 12-hour period. The franchise began in 2013 with The Purge, directed by the franchise creator DeMonaco, who also directed two of the sequels and wrote the screenplays for all, including the yet-unnamed Purge 5 which, he has hinted in interviews, could be the end of the franchise.[1] In addition to films, the franchise has spawned a television series which premiered on September 4, 2018; DeMonaco wrote its pilot episode. The franchise has received a generally mixed critical reception, mainly for the screenwriting and clichéd stories, but was praised for the concept, acting, style, and action sequences. The franchise has grossed overall over $446 million against a combined production budget of $35.5 million. The Nerds prepare and bunker down for The Purge. We take a look at the original movie that started the franchise. The Purge is written and directed by James DeMonaco and stars Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey. The movie's success was enough to turn to greenlight 2 sequels and a prequel. "In an America ravaged by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government sanctions an annual 12-hour period during which all criminal activity -- including murder -- is legal. James Sandin and his family face the ultimate test when an intruder drags the vicious outside world into their home. They struggle to survive the night while trying not to turn into monsters like the ones they are striving to avoid." The Purge is the second film in our America-themed movies for July! Directed by James DeMonaco, this 2013 movie gives us the framework to talk about wealth inequality in the US, gun control analogies, the emptiness of “supporting the troops,” flower symbolism, the distressing nature of the Emergency Broadcast System, and our personal obsession with dystopian/philosophical storytelling.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/checkyourthreading)
The First Purge is about the first purge, but it’s not actually the first Purge movie. It’s the fourth Purge movie, but set during the first purge in the Purge universe. Still following? No matter, Be Good and Rewatch It is here to help. Writer/director James DeMonaco, who helmed the past three movies, only worked on the script for The First Purge, with Gerard McMurray (Burning Sands) stepping in—a refreshing shift the franchise has badly needed. As we close out our discussion of the Purge series, Austin, Patrick, Rob, Danielle, and Natalie gather to break down a franchise that surprised, delighted, and disappointed us. Esta edición es un "mini episodio", hablamos sobre "The First Purge" o "12 Horas para Sobrevivir: El Inicio", dirigida por Gerard McMurray y escrita por James DeMonaco (2018).
The fourth film in the Purge series is a prequel to the other three, as The First Purge shifts directors to Gerard McMurray, though retaining James DeMonaco's services as screenwriter. This one showcases the trial run' experiment that led to the Purge, as the alt-right government seeks to cure societal ills by finding a way to eradicate crime throughout most of the year, mostly by sweeping house and trying to get rid of the nation's poor. Social commentary abounds in this franchise that is sometimes marketed, and perhaps mis-marketed, as a horror series.
In this episode, Reed and Nathan discuss James DeMonaco's The Purge.
Nathan Whitehead is a composer whose ability to craft engrossing musical narratives in a distinct style makes him stand out of the crowd. Last year he composed an impressive horror score with The Purge, and only a year later he is back with The Purge: Anarchy. We chat about the different direction this film is taking versus the first one, and how he needed to approach the music differently. Nathan discusses his relationship with director James DeMonaco and what it was like working with him again. We also discuss other recent projects like the popular series The Last Ship on TNT plus much more. It was great to delve into Nathan's process once again. After a stunning 4 cat review from Pierce on Purge Anarchy, the fate of the franchise now rests on the final Purge film. Will Purge Election year tip the scales towards mainly positive? Spolier: no, the answer is no. Still, you should join us on this adventure as we do our damnedest to figure out just what the fuck James DeMonaco was thinking with this film, what the most offensive line in the movie was, and whether this was a failed attempt at a film, or just a straight forward money grab.
This week we’re watching a right, upstanding, patriotic, political film. THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR is written and directed by James DeMonaco and stars Frank Grillow, Elizabeth Mitchel, Mykelti Williamson, Joseph Julian Soria, and Betty Gabriel. Williams, with Edwin Hodge as the only actor to reprise his role from the first film. It was released worldwide on July 18, 2014. It is the second installment in DeMonaco's Purge film series. The film was met with mixed reviews, with most critics agreeing the film was an improvement over the original, an --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

The Context of White Supremacy deconstructs James DeMonaco's multi-million dollar franchise, The Purge. University of Texas (Austin) professor Dr. Martin Kevorkian returns to The C.O.W.S. to dissect the films. The author of Color Monitors, Dr. Kevorkian has written about the White Supremacy messaging in films and converesed with our audience repeatidly. We'll turn our attention to DeMonaco's science fiction juggernaut and the three installments released since 2013. The Purge depicts a dystopian future, where ruling Whites (the New Founding Fathers of America) decree that on one day each year, murder and all other crimes are legal for twelve hours. All three movies depict nearly unparalleled scenes of sadistic brutality and White pathology. White Supremacy is flaunted in all three films: a black male is hunted by a White mob in the first film. White goons sporting "White Power" insignias and swastikas prowl the third film - released on the 4th of July weekend this summer. We'll get Dr. Kevorkian's perspective on the timing of these projects and the politics being broadcast by a franchise that suggests the way to solve problems is by killing people. The third installment of THE PURGE franchise is out just in time to totally creep out your 4th of July! THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR stars Frank Grillo as the head of security for a US Senator running for President with an anti-purge platform. Her unpopular stances have made her a target for The Purge founders, The New Founding Fathers, (NFFA) and Grillo must get her through the night safely. Along their travels they meet up with a renegade gang of [also] anti purgers, and wrong place/wrong time good samaritans who come to their aid. The film is written and directed by James DeMonaco who wrote and directed the first two and co-stars Elizabeth Mitchell (LOST), Mykelti Williamson (FOREST GUMP) and Kyle Secor (HOMICIDE). We gave it Justice, mostly for Grillo's hardworking action-star ways (give him more lead roles please!) and the overall entertainment value. Not as terrifying as the second and with some added cheese and bad lines, but it still delivers on fun summer action. 6.5/10 on the Justice & Doom Meter
Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. Totalitarian states have been a staple of genre and speculative fiction for years. George Orwell's 1984 may be the most famous since it crossed into the classics. With pressures from globalization, economics, tribalism, population growth, war, religious fundamentalism, natural resources, and so many other things, a bleak and desperate future seems inevitable. In 2013, well known screenwriter James DeMonaco adapted his latest screenplay, The Purge, to a major motion picture. Starring Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, and Rhys Wakefield, the film takes place in the near future where once a year, the government allows an evening of violence and chaos. When the Sandlin family mistakenly lets into their home a homeless veteran, a group of purgers surround their house demanding the handing over of the man. Rather than acquiesce, they decide to defend their home and their values. Well received and made for $3M USD, the film went on to gross $89.3M USD. A second in the franchise, The Purge: Anarchy, came out in 2014 to even better reviews and was also a box office success. Though the film was in the same "universe" as the first, the style was completely different. With the recent release of the second film to disc, Dark Discussions talks about the two films and their significance.
