Martin Dobson (born 14 February 1948) is a former professional footballer and England international who played as a midfielder. He was the first player to be transferred for £300,000, when Everton bought him from Burnley in August 1974. Playing career He was born in Rishton and attended Clitheroe Royal Grammar School. He was signed as youngster by Bolton Wanderers who spotted him playing for Lancashire Grammar Schools. However he was given a free transfer and moved on to Burnley.[2] He had a long and successful playing career, playing for almost 20 years and totalling over 600 league appearances while playing for Burnley, Everton and Bury. He won five England caps overall, four while at Burnley and one while at Everton. His first England cap was awarded to him by manager Sir Alf Ramsey (because of FA Cup commitments of other players) on 3 April 1974, a 0–0 draw against Portugal. However, he impressed enough to win four more caps that year. Managerial career As well as finishing his playing career with Bury, Dobson became their manager until 1989. During this period they were promoted from the old Fourth Division and became an established Third Division side.[3] Dobson was appointed manager of Bristol Rovers in July 1991, but was sacked after only 12 games in charge in October of the same year.[4] On 10 January 2010 he was appointed joint caretaker manager of Premier League side and former club Burnley, with Terry Pashley, after Owen Coyle left the club for Bolton Wanderers. However, Dobson and Pashley never managed a game due to the rapid appointment of Brian Laws. Laws kept Dobson on his coaching staff in the short-term as he built up his backroom staff. Dobson then returned full-time to his role as Burnley's director of youth development.[5] Dobson left his post as director of youth at Burnley in October 2011 after his contract was not renewed by manager Eddie Howe who instead appointed his reserve team manager Jason Blake, from former club AFC Bournemouth, as academy manager. Dobson became the professional development co-ordinator at Everton in February 2018.

Following audience responses to Pod 107 with Jason Blake, Secarma Jen Williams has circled back to do a deeper dive into the PSTI legislation and IoT devices. With the legislation going live at the end of April, any manufacturers that have not yet found a successful route to show compliance should listen to this podcast which goes into finer detail with Jason Blake. As IASME's IOT scheme manager, Jason shares a selection of ways to navigate the legislation and he and Jen discuss the ways to approach an accreditation that will also help any business and their devices to improve on the journey. They also look at the wider implications around unsecured internet devices and the likelihood that governing bodies will levy some large fines early on to impress the importance of complying on manufacturers. For more information regarding IOT and the PSTI legislation you can check out the resources section of the secarma.com website at https://secarma.com/resources/iot-and-psti/

Secarma Head of Testing, Simon Chapman, takes over the hosting duties as the Hacked Off podcast returns. Episode 107 focuses on IoT and the new regulations that are forcing manufacturers to place security at the heart of their devices. Simon interviews Jason Blake, IOT scheme manager at IASME and Jen Williams who heads up consultancy services at Secarma. Jason talks us through the diverse world of IoT devices, from smart letter boxes to B2B moisture content monitors for farmers and explains why the need for tighter security regulation is long overdue. Jen approaches the subject from a consumer perspective and poses the risks of a home network that has dozens of ‘always on' devices connected and the average consumers understanding of this situation. How do we give consumers a confidence around IoT that has perhaps been eroded of late? The panel discuss IASME's IoT Cyber Secure Scheme and why it's one of the simplest ways for manufacturers to give their devices the security health checks that they need. Technology plays a central role in every aspect of medical advancement — even in the surgical asset management field. On an episode of ConCensis host, Tyler Kern was joined by Theresa Cole, a Sterile Processing Manager at Northern Nevada Sierra Hospital, and Jason Blake, a project manager with Censis Technologies – the company behind CensiTrac, a system being used to manage all things surgical instrument management. When health centers and facilities look to adopt a new system, there are several key things that they look for. But for Cole, her main goal was to work with a software that facilitated patient tracking and was easy to use. "The most important thing is being able to track to the patients … kind of a thorough implementation to be able to track through the process. We've used CensiTrac in the past so as a system I was familiar with, I was very comfortable and confident using it at this facility," said Cole. The CensiTrac system was the most significant factor for Cole's interest in her management job. The Censis software was going to be used at Northern Nevada Sierra, which piqued Cole's interest. "CensiTrac was in place … because there's very extensive modules to be able to track paperless, track to the patient, track the instrumentation … it was a very comprehensive system so that was a selling feature for sure," stated Cole.Having a support team in the surgical asset management field is also important. The Censis implementation team assists hospital staff on how to use the system, ensuring proper and safe security measures, and getting people all on the same page for a smooth process.Early preparation stands to be the main factor in effectively implementing sterile processing and what has to be prioritized. "The main thing is their data – what is their information going to look like," said Blake. For sterile processing, these things include items like count sheets and instrumentation. Blake stated, "that is core training for a tracking system to ensure that you have the right data in place. All their trays, the tray names — anything that has to do with that first is a really big thing."He added that coordinating with information technology personnel and understanding the hardware should be emphasized in surgical asset management because oftentimes, switching from one system to another or implementing into a totally new system might come with trial and error since every facility has its own needs.Interested in learning more about Censis Technologies' surgical asset management platform? Artists are known far and wide as being unintentional narcissists. To be fair, I include myself in this definition, as I'm a creative as well. When I heard I was going to be interviewing Jason Blake from Aziola Cry, I was worried because I loved the music so much that I feared all I would do is make it clear that if their drummer ever died in a bizarre gardening accident, that I'd be the perfect fit to replace him.Fortunately, Jason laughed that stuff off and kept me on point as an interviewer. The beauty of this particular interview is that we got to talk about all sorts of things that make guys like us tick, yet the conversation stayed attainable enough for the musical newbie to enjoy what Jason and his bandmates have to offer.the new album, the Ironic Divide, is available now and worth every red cent you can throw at it. As you're my faithful listeners, I implore you to purchase it today. The links to the band's social media and record label are included in the notes below. During quarantine I was asked if I would do a video interview for the West Canada Soccer Academy as part of their Player Development Master Class Series as a technical development expert. I was interviewed by my old friend Jason Blake who I worked with at Southampton FC. Jason went onto work at AFC Bournemouth, Burnley and now is Technical Director at the West Canada Soccer Academy and Red Deer Dome. The audio was taken for this Extra Time (The Inner Huddle) podcast and all 15 questions with timings are below. I hope you enjoy it. (2:40) We know each other from when we both worked at Southampton FC. Can you just give us a little insight to who you are and your journey that's got you to where you are today from a coaching point of view, and what's really got yourself a good knowledge and experience around technical development? (5:50) When we were young we used to play in the street. What does street soccer look like now for young players? (8:39) With your background of working in the pre academy at Southampton FC, how young does that go down to initially? (9:03) With players of that age what would you be encouraging the players to be doing in the foundation phase and pre academy? (11:03) At the risk of name dropping, I want to mention some of the players I know you've done some work with, 3 England Internationals, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain & Jay Rodriguez. With Adam Lallana in mind, how would talk about the basics of what Adam did with you and how does it trace back to work you would do with a 6 or 7 year old? (14:41) How important is technical competence to help you through the challenges of maybe not being a physical size yet when you're playing against people that are perhaps a bit bigger? (18:32) Can we pick your brains about futsal and also what would the main reason be to use futsal balls as opposed to normal soccer balls? (21: 25) If grass roots clubs are training in a school gym or sports hall, is that sufficient to do futsal training? (23:04) Is there a difference in the type of ball used for futsal and does it make a difference when learning new skills and practicing them? (24:30) How appropriate is technical training across all age groups, is it equally important regardless of what age they re up to adults? (27:53) With regards to pitch sizes, we have a wide range of size within the FIFA regulations for 7 v 7 pitches. What are the benefits or challenges of being on the smaller side of the regulations? (32:41) For the younger players in our region, how should they think about their technical development depending on the position they play in? (37:30) A three part question: When is it ok to teach children tricks with the ball? Once we learn those new tricks how can we be confident enough to do them in games? How can we as players train during quarantine time so that we can keep getting better? (40:46) For the older players that might be a central defender should they be given a different type of technical work during this period? (45:37) Summary for coaches, parents and players and key messages to take away. Australian listeners! Over in the US, our fellow failed pilot historians (deficio-nauclerusists?) at the Couch Pilots podcast will soon dive into a curio from OzTV: Australia's Naughtiest Home Videos, the doomed clip show infamously yanked from the channel 9 airways mid-broadcast. If you're unfamiliar with this piece of Aussie TV history, we suggest you let Jason & Blake run you through it. Look out for the episode on the 11th/12th of September on any reputable podcast service! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ In this week’s Failure to Launch, we ask: why would you bother remaking Turner and Hooch? Unfortunately, this 1990 TV adaption of the classic Tom Hanks ‘reluctantly looks after a dog’ film doesn’t give us any answers. It does however give us a plot that revolves almost entirely around the theft of a pecan pie though so it’s not all bad news. Also Turner seems to gain full custody of a child he arrested because there’s no room in the cells. That’s how the law works, right? But seriously why would you bother remaking Turner and Hooch? Well, NBC had big plans for the Summer of 1990, big dog-based plans. If you’ve listened to our podcast before you may already be familiar with Poochinski, the story of a dead detective whose soul gets transferred into a living dog. Excitingly, Turner and Hooch aired directly after Poochinski to become the titular second dog in NBC’s now legendary Two Dog Night lineup. Armed with that really shitty pun, and the crime-solving dog market now seemingly cornered, NBC had the world at their feet. What could possibly go wrong? Well they don’t solve any crimes. Turner does get called in to investigate the disappearance of some bread and a pecan pie, and then Hooch accordingly mauls a child, but that's not technically solving anything. They also didn’t write any jokes. They do have an angry middle-aged man that inexplicably HATES his dog, but we're not sure that counts as a joke. As a result we’re left with 20 minutes of the televisual equivalent of white noise that pleasingly goes quicker than you’d think. But we all know that making the transition to the small screen is never easy (see Mr. & Mrs. Smith), so it is a welcome relief for Turner and Hooch fans to see an old friend return to lend his star power to this project. That’s right, reprising his title role, Beasley the Dog is back! They got Hooch guys! They got Hooch!
