EMP Episode 14 Today's show was inspired by the recent academic studies showing the damaging psychological impact of social media on children. And that it is a smoking gun alerting us to something being deeply wrong and indeed is the tip of an iceberg that has been forming for a very long time. And so today, also inspired by friends and hosts in radio, I am calling it out and will attempt to explain in plain terms what this is how it's come about and why it matters to all of us. Deanna Depetro is the Creative Director and co-owner of Mossman Clothing, an Australian label known for an aesthetic that is at once fashion-forward and timeless, with a European twist. Since taking over the label with business partner Ben De Rango, Deanna has transformed the business from a small, Melbourne-based clothing company into an emerging label with a national profile, with her designs worn by celebrities such as Jennifer Hawkins, and securing key distribution deals with Myer and The Iconic. Growing up in Melbourne with a seamstress mother, Deanna has always had a passion for fashion design, sourcing patterns and fabrics from local stores to make her own clothes. After working in Australia and New York in a variety of roles across the fashion industry, she got her first big break as a design assistant back in Melbourne, working her way up before landing at Mossman as a designer. As Founder and President, Jennifer Hawkins has overseen the growth of Hawkins International Public Relations from a one-woman start-up to a major player in public relations, media relations, and digital communications for the luxury travel and lifestyle industries. Yet even as the agency has grown to more than 30 employees, maintained a robust roster of world-class international clients, expanded with a Los Angeles office, and launched a new division focused on wellness and beauty, Jennifer remains committed to the boutique and approachable culture she first shaped at the start back in 2002. “I want to maintain our spirit of creativity and proactivity in everything we do,” she says, explaining that assembling diverse leadership and talent is key to Hawkins International’s ingenuity and maneuverability. Jennifer’s commitment to relevancy encompasses not just current trends in hospitality and wellness, but making certain that the agency is technologically on par and on top of the changing media landscape. She was behind the company’s embrace of social media that created a vibrant division offering influencer relations, social media activation and training, content strategy, and video integration services. “We celebrate luxury travel and wellness lifestyles through polished personalized attention to our clients and to the media alike,” Jennifer continues. “My role is to bring in interesting clients who are a pleasure for us to collaborate and do business with. That keeps our PR team inspired, our culture dynamic, and our clients squarely in the news.” Jennifer fell for travel as a girl traveling with a Eurail Pass through Europe with her father. A veritable globetrotter with more than 50 countries across 6 continents stamped on her passport, she long ago gleaned that travel isn’t just about the visitor’s experience – it’s also about providing a real economic impact to countless destinations. She never thought Hawkins International would grow as it has – “I call myself the accidental entrepreneur” – but she has enjoyed the journey. “I can honestly say the majority of clients we’ve signed have come because of our reputation, and they stay because they know we will innovate and deliver.” Destination on the Left is joined by Jennifer Hawkins, Founder and President of Hawkins international Public Relations and Maverick Creative. Jennifer is a self-proclaimed travel and tourism nerd, working with luxury hotels, spas, resorts, and start-ups through her agencies. On our podcast, Jennifer shares highlights from her recently released Trend Hawk Report. Jennifer and her team have measured the impact of social media use in the travel industry as it correlates to social media spend. Jez Smith is a photographer. He as created arresting images of world-famous talent such as: Christy Turlington, Cate Blanchette, Serena Williams, Miranda Kerr, Megan Gale and Jennifer Hawkins. And he has shot for publications like: Vogue Italia, Hapers Bizarr UK, Instyle, Elle, GQ and The Australian's Wish Magazine (my personal favourite). When it comes to shooting high-end fashion photography in Australia, Jez Smith has a reputation for being one of the best in his field. Why then, after almost 20 years building that reputation did he decide to move afield and relocate back to London for fresh start? This episode explores a theme that has come up a lot with my guests of late, and that is self-preservation & self care - which is not only necessary for those looking to forge a career doing what they love. It’s as important – if not more important – for those who are already working within the field of their passions - because your livelihood depends on your ability to create. This episode is all about stepping back and taking stock - which is not a ‘one time only’ occurrence. Over the course of your creative career, you may need to do this on multiple occasions. It was interesting for me to be reminded that no matter how successful you are are you still need to be responsible for your well-being. I’m really appreciative of Jez’s openness in talking about issues that were very personal to him – this is a great conversation for anyone who is wrestling with not only the question of HOW to do what they love for a living - But WHY.

HAPPY LOGIES AFTERMATH! What a night it was. Tears, desperation, disappointment - all that just from the radio people on the red carpet trying to get the attention of our stars for interviews. The Logies have once again been run and won and in this 57th year going live to air (for the east coast) made it all the more engaging and energetic. That doesn't mean there wasn't the pre-requisite awkwardness of say a Chris Brown and Jennifer Hawkins into, but nonetheless it was fun. Fellow Logies tragic Mark Humphries is back to discuss the televised delights that were the 2015 Logies with me, all for your enjoyment. We discuss all the important things: Jules Lund's questioning technique, Erin Molan's nod to Sharon Stone, the #ClothAnus, The Script, Julia Morris's faux pax, The rose ceremony... SO MANY LOGIES THINGS! As mentioned this ep there's even a visit from Bert Newton and his very special 1988 Logies Hall of Fame induction speech at the end of the pod. Thanks for spreading the word about the return of the MolksTVTalk podcast (#MTTpod) and letting people know where to find this corner of fun on the internet. In this episode...* Logies, Logies, Logies! SO MUCH HUMPHRIES!http://twitter.com/humphriesmarkhttp://www.facebook.com/markhumphriescomedyhttp://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/series/the-roast
