Can AI Help Create High Performance Teams

In this episode of Tim Stating the Obvious, titled Can AI Help Create High Performance Teams, host Tim Staton speaks with Dan Kasper, a former Navy SEAL Special Operations Officer and founder of PilotEer. Dan shares his journey from leading elite military teams to applying those lessons in business, scaling operations at Airbnb, and now using AI to transform how organizations build high performance teams.   Dan explains what are high performance teams: groups where members operate at their highest capacity toward a laser-aligned shared goal. Drawing from special operations, he highlights high performance teams characteristics such as diverse specialists contributing to a common objective, deep mutual understanding from shared experiences, self-policing accountability, instantaneous supportive feedback, and a culture that puts team needs first.   He stresses servant leadership as key to leading high performance teams and managing high performance teams. Leaders must make team members' personal and professional priorities matter to them, foster genuine trust, and act as a "chameleon with a backbone"—holding firm core principles while adapting styles across military, corporate, or startup settings. True leadership, he says, is lived through service, enabling people to achieve extraordinary results.   To create high performance teams or how to build high performance teams, Dan advocates fostering trust, service-oriented mindsets, and environments where individuals feel supported. In the civilian world, this means prioritizing what matters to team members to build strong connections and accountability. After transitioning from the military—with help from The Honor Foundation—Dan found his fit in tech startups mirroring the close-knit, resource-limited dynamics of special operations. Through PilotEer, he bridges the gap between elite units (which use real-time, instrumented data) and corporate teams. The platform's "sensing AI" joins virtual meetings to offer non-intrusive feedback on interactions, tone, sentiment, and body language—acting as a mirror for self-correction, grounded in neuroscience. AI augments human ingenuity rather than replacing it, accelerating problem-solving, enabling faster iteration, and evolving toward collaborative human-AI teams within clear trust parameters.   Dan emphasizes ethical AI use, strategic alignment with goals, and the enduring need for human critical thinking. Ultimately, he sees AI as a powerful assistant in creating high performance teams, helping leaders and members reflect, adapt, and elevate dynamics in real time for stronger cultures and sustained organizational success.   Connect with Dan Kasper Website: https://www.piloteer.ai/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/daniel-kasper-022359b7/   Connect With Tim Website: timstatingtheobvious.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/timstatingtheobvious YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHfDcITKUdniO8R3RP0lvdw Instagram: @TimStating TikTok: @timstatingtheobvious LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tim-staton-04b41a271/ SKOOL Community: https://www.skool.com/timstatingtheobvious-9537/about?ref=de9c7e65d8ba4eeabc1a8eea413c125b Enroll in the Leadership Course: https://themanyhatsofleadership.learnworlds.com/course/the-edge-mindset

How to turn Fear into Anticipation

In this episode of Tim Stating The Obvious, Career Transition Anxiety: Fear to Anticipation, I break down the emotional hurdles in career transitions—especially for executives—and how to flip fear and anxiety into fuel for forward momentum.   What is career transition? It's that pivotal shift: leaving a familiar role, job, or phase (like retirement) for something new, often loaded with mixed emotions.   Why the flip? Why does excitement turn into anxiety (or why does my excitement turn into anxiety)? The same physiological arousal—racing heart, energy surge—can register as threat instead of opportunity, sparking anticipation anxiety. Can anticipation cause anxiety? Yes—anxiety anticipation shows up as restlessness, overthinking, or physical tension when the mind fixates on "what ifs."   Core fears driving this: What is fear of failure (doubting you'll succeed or meet expectations in the new path) and what is fear of the unknown (uncertainty without a clear roadmap).   The key insight? Much of it boils down to what is false evidence appearing real—fear false evidence appearing real meaning—where imagined disasters feel vividly real but are often just mental fiction, not present facts.   Practical shift: Master how to turn anxiety into excitement through emotional reappraisal (simply label the feeling "I'm excited"), reframe the energy as growth fuel, and redirect imagination toward positive possibilities instead of letting it drain you.   This serves as a no-fluff career transition guide for anyone in a career transition for executives or big life pivot—helping you understand the battles, quiet the noise, and step forward with clarity.   Connect with Tim Website: timstatingtheobvious.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/timstatingtheobvious YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHfDcITKUdniO8R3RP0lvdw Instagram: @TimStating TikTok: @timstatingtheobvious LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tim-staton-04b41a271/ SKOOL Community: https://www.skool.com/timstatingtheobvious-9537/about?ref=de9c7e65d8ba4eeabc1a8eea413c125b Enroll in the Leadership Course: https://themanyhatsofleadership.learnworlds.com/course/the-edge-mindset

How do you fuel your brain—not your anxiety—for sustained mental energy, clarity, and confident decision-making?   In this episode, Tim Staton launches a powerful new nutrition leadership program series exploring the science-backed connection between gut health, brain fuel, and leadership performance. If you've ever wondered what fuel does your brain use, how to fuel your brain, or which food to fuel your brain supports long-term focus, this conversation delivers practical answers.   Tim is joined by Nikki Golly, a nutrition and digestive health expert, who shares her personal journey of overcoming 27 years of chronic digestive issues that silently eroded her confidence, clarity, and mental energy. Her transformation—now openly known as “the poop lady”—highlights why digestive health is foundational to personal development, wellness, and leadership effectiveness.   Together, they break down how the gut functions as the body's “second brain,” directly influencing decision-making, emotional regulation, and sustained mental energy. Nikki explains why hydration is one of the most overlooked tools for brain performance, affecting nearly 90–95% of people, and how proper hydration helps you better interpret hunger, stress, and cognitive fatigue.   You'll also learn: How to fuel your brain through nutrition without relying on stimulants Why high-protein breakfasts support focus, clarity, and confidence The difference between macronutrients, micronutrients, and real brain fuel Why processed foods increase anxiety instead of energy How stress disrupts digestion—and how to reset your system for better performance   This episode is ideal for leaders, professionals, and high performers seeking sustained mental energy, sharper thinking, and a healthier relationship between food, stress, and productivity.   If you care about wellness, personal development, digestive health, and leadership clarity, this conversation will change how you think about what's on your plate—and how it shapes your legacy. Align Your Purpose with Your Profession Today Are you dreading your work? Tim Staton introduces Florian Kemmerich, an impact investor, leadership mentor, and author. Tim Staton notes that many talented people dread their work. Florian Kemmerich suggests that aligning purpose with profession can solve this. He shares his journey, including how he left a corporate job to find his calling. What is your professional purpose? Florian Kemmerich defines education as preparing for life, but not for understanding oneself. He contrasts this with vocation, which is a calling or a dream of contributing to the world. Florian Kemmerich shares his personal pivot from a corporate career to impact investing. He learned about himself through personal development and now helps others find their vocation. Florian Kemmerich explains that feeling stressed when you choose your path, even if it's challenging, differs from stress caused by external pressures. This personal choice leads to motivation and a sense of purpose. What is an example of purpose at work? Florian Kemmerich provides an example of a young man who used his financial skills to address climate change adaptation. This shows how a vocation and a skill set can combine to create meaningful work. Florian Kemmerich emphasizes that one should think about what they care about and translate it into actionable steps. He believes that making a difference in the world is contagious. When you are in your “zone,” life feels different and more meaningful. Florian Kemmerich also shares his experience doing service work in Mexico, which taught him to serve with dignity and fairness. Some common criticisms Florian Kemmerich faces include people thinking he believes he is better than others or that his approach requires taking financial risks. He clarifies that his method encourages self-reflection to understand one's contribution, not necessarily a complete career overhaul or financial risk. He also addresses the discomfort of self-reflection and vulnerability, which he overcame through personal development and introspection. How do you define your purpose at work? How do I answer what is my purpose? How to find meaning in my daily work? Workshops for aligning personal values with career paths can help you navigate the distinction between vocation vs. occupation, understanding vocation and calling, and exploring vocation calling. Are you experiencing vocation frustration? Discover your vocation and mission, explore vocation ideas, or seek vocation discernment. The difference between vocation vs. profession is crucial for finding jobs that align with your calling.   Connect with Tim: Website: timstatingtheobvious.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/timstatingtheobvious YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHfDcITKUdniO8R3RP0lvdw Instagram: @TimStating TikTok: @timstatingtheobvious LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tim-staton-04b41a271/ SKOOL Community: https://www.skool.com/timstatingtheobvious-9537/about?ref=de9c7e65d8ba4eeabc1a8eea413c125b Enroll in the Leadership Course: https://themanyhatsofleadership.learnworlds.com/course/the-edge-mindset Connect with Aslak de Silva LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/aslakdesilva/ Book: https://www.amazon.com/Black-Belt-Leadership-Lessons-Boardroom/dp/952880490X   Connect with Florian On Vocation on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Vocation-Align-Your-Purpose-Profession/dp/1041067283 Amazon Author Page: https://www.amazon.com/author/floriankemmerich Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/florian_kemmmerich Website: https://www.on-vocation.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/floriankemmerich Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/flokemmerich X/Twitter: https://x.com/flokemmerich Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/17iBtuWB2w/?mibextid=wwXIfr YouTube: https://youtube.com/@flokemmerich

Shifting Gears at the Crossroads: How to Prepare for Disruption and Navigate Life's Major Transitions Wondering how can companies prepare for disruption — or to Transform Disruption Into Success? In Shifting Gears at the Crossroads, author DJ Hefflin shares a powerful, faith-based roadmap drawn from his own professional, personal, and ministry shifts. This book answers key questions like what do you mean by disruption, what's a positive word for disruption (think transformation, pivot, or breakthrough), and what's a professional way to say messed up when life throws curveballs. If you're facing a career crossroad, questioning what is considered a career path, or exploring what does career explorer mean, this guide is for you. The future of work demands preparing for disruption — only about 20% of people are financially ready for even a six-month shift, and far fewer see it coming. DJ Hefflin, through Crossroads Professional Building, Crossroads Professional Coaching, and Crossroads Professional Counseling insights, built this book on real experiences to help you thrive amid change. Why “Shifting Gears at the Crossroads” Was Written DJ Hefflin created this book to guide people through life's major transitions with a practical, step-by-step process for managing change and turning setbacks into setups for success. The Four Foundational “F's” The core revolves around balancing faith, family, fitness, and finances — like Jenga blocks holding up a stable life. When one wobbles (especially faith during tough times), the others can collapse, requiring intentional rebuilding. Repositioning: The Strategic Step Back Moving from disruption (point A) to your desired outcome (point B) often means a temporary "backwards" move — a repositioning investment in status or income that's essential for long-term growth, not failure. Anticipating Disruption Spot early signs by tracking current events, economic trends, industry changes, mergers, and personal signals like relationship quality, fulfillment, and communication patterns. Vision, Mission, and Core Identity Define your vision (long-term aspiration) and mission (daily actions). Write them down as an anchor during chaos to stay aligned and make better decisions. Service and Daily Introspection True success comes from serving others (sowing and reaping). Commit to 30 minutes of daily introspection, prayer, or meditation to connect actions to your bigger goals and boost productivity. What's Next: A Season of Acceleration DJ Hefflin's upcoming follow-up, Shifting Gears in the Crossroads: A Season of Acceleration, builds on this foundation. After repositioning, rebuilding, and realizing your potential, enter a phase of accelerated impact in your calling, society, and service to others. In Why Most Police Applicants Fail - A veteran tells his story of transitioning from military service to law enforcement—and the leadership lessons that carried him through both worlds. Drawing on six years in the U.S. Navy, including deployments overseas, Frank McGaha explains how discipline, situational awareness, and decision-making under pressure became the foundation for his career in policing and protective services. In this conversation, Frank breaks down how to be a police officer, the steps of being a police officer, and why many candidates struggle despite strong motivation. He addresses common questions like what are the best police academy training programs near me?, which companies offer police exam preparation courses online?, and how to be a female police officer, offering practical insight grounded in real-world experience. Frank also explores how to be a good police officer—and more importantly, how to be a better police officer—by identifying gaps in traditional academy and in-service training. He discusses why leadership development often fails to reach junior officers and why the best leadership training programs for law enforcement officers focus on accountability, repetition, and mentorship. That realization led him to build a results-driven law enforcement program through Armagon Consulting and Training, one of the best law enforcement training programs available online. His work blends exam preparation, academy readiness, and career coaching with a strong emphasis on veteran leadership, making it a standout veteran leadership program for those entering or advancing in public service. Work-Life Balance Is a Myth? This CEO Explains Why

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 16, 2026 34:53 Transcription Available

Work-Life Balance Is a Myth? This CEO Explains Why Aslak de Silva introduces his “Tetris-ing your life together” concept, challenging the traditional notion of #worklife balance. Rather than striving for perfect daily equilibrium, he emphasizes actively managing one's calendar to strategically block out time for different life priorities—family, friends, work, training, and personal development. This approach to what is having a work-life balance moves beyond mythical perfection, acknowledging that not everything can happen simultaneously but can be thoughtfully arranged to fit together over time. The goal is achieving fulfillment by ensuring all valued aspects of life receive attention through flexible, adaptive planning as life evolves. The Power of Presence in Leadership and Life The discussion shifts to being more present in the moment, drawing from Aslak de Silva's martial arts background. What does it mean to be more present means fully engaging in the current moment, whether being a more present parent or in professional interactions. Aslak de Silva shares anecdotes—his daughter learning to ride a bike and his wife's text on a train—illustrating how being present and mindful strengthens connections and significantly impacts others' feelings. In leadership, being present in a relationship with team members allows genuine support, encouragement, and obstacle removal, creating a strong sense of care. Being present meditation and martial arts training demonstrate that this mindful engagement is a developable skill requiring consistent practice. Cultivating Daily Discipline and Self-Leadership Tim Staton and Aslak de Silva explore developing discipline and habits, especially for those without military or martial arts backgrounds. Discipline and good habits are framed not as innate traits but as muscles strengthened through small, consistent actions. Aslak de Silva suggests starting with achievable daily practices—a healthy breakfast or short exercise—and gradually building upon them. The core principle is that “discipline beats motivation,” meaning consistent action, even when unmotivated, yields greater results than waiting for inspiration. This internal journey of self-leadership, managing one's well-being and habits, directly influences leadership effectiveness and supports #being more present and #being mindful and present in all aspects of life. The Evolution of Black Belt Leadership Aslak de Silva explains the genesis of his book, “Black Belt Leadership,” synthesizing his 15-20 years in martial arts with his CEO career. He recognized that the developmental journey in martial arts, marked by different colored belts, paralleled the continuous growth required in leadership, prompting him to document his learnings. The book explores how martial arts principles—resilience, focus, and continuous improvement—apply to leadership. Aslak de Silva also shares how artificial intelligence (AI) assisted him in structuring scattered ideas, maintaining consistent tone, and organizing content into 20 actionable lessons, making the writing process more efficient. Embracing Imperfection and Developing Leadership Instincts A key takeaway from both martial arts and leadership is accepting imperfection. Aslak de Silva emphasizes that even the best fighters make mistakes, and leaders will inevitably face challenges and failures. The goal is not perfection but continuous calibration, learning from both successes and missteps. This requires boldness to try new approaches and self-awareness to understand one's strengths and weaknesses. Aslak de Silva highlights that knowing one's weaknesses allows for building a complementary team, ensuring all project aspects are handled effectively. The conversation concludes by touching upon leadership instincts and the idea that some people might fear success due to potential sacrifices involved, underscoring the importance of commitment and effort from day one to achieve one's full potential.   Connect with Tim: Website: timstatingtheobvious.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/timstatingtheobvious YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHfDcITKUdniO8R3RP0lvdw Instagram: @TimStating TikTok: @timstatingtheobvious LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tim-staton-04b41a271/ SKOOL Community: https://www.skool.com/timstatingtheobvious-9537/about?ref=de9c7e65d8ba4eeabc1a8eea413c125b Enroll in the Leadership Course: https://themanyhatsofleadership.learnworlds.com/course/the-edge-mindset   Connect with Aslak de Silva LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/aslakdesilva/ Book: https://www.amazon.com/Black-Belt-Leadership-Lessons-Boardroom/dp/952880490X

Discover what is the pygmalion and golem effect and unlock the pygmalion effect in leadership to skyrocket team performance. In this episode of Tim Staton Stating the Obvious, explore the impact of expectations on performance: Pygmalion and Golem Effects. What is the pygmalion and golem effect? Your expectations = their performance. The pygmalion effect (from Greek myth + pygmalion effect rosenthal 1968 study) proves high expectations boost results. Teachers told random kids were “bloomers”? They soared with extra attention. The golem effect flips it—low expectations tank performance. Unlabeled kids got less challenge, fell behind. In leadership: Label someone a “B player”? Watch golem effect vs pygmalion play out—less support, weak tasks, self-fulfilling failure. What is an example of the golem effect reversed? I offer a true story: A Soldier Written off as “not good.” Tim set pygmalion-level expectations, gave special assignments, followed up—turned underperformer into top performer. No Excuses: Be the Go-Getter You Were Meant To Be

When we are young, our parents guide us through critical milestones: crawling, walking, speaking, playing with peers. But somewhere along the way, teaching us how to persist, improvise, and lead ourselves often stops. That's where books like The Go-Getter remind us of timeless truths. Success in life and leadership is not about luck or even intelligence—it's about persistence, determination, resourcefulness, loyalty, and mindset. Let's break down the core lessons and how you can use them to design the life and career you want. Persistence and Determination: Outlast the Competition The world doesn't always reward the smartest person in the room, but it almost always rewards the most persistent. Go-getters keep pushing despite setbacks. They understand that success is not about avoiding failure but about refusing to quit. Persistence is the fuel that carries you through roadblocks, delays, and disappointments. Determination turns obstacles into stepping stones. If you want to design the life you want, persistence has to be part of your DNA. Resourcefulness and Thinking Outside the Box True leaders and go-getters do not wait for instructions. They take initiative, adapt, and improvise. Resourcefulness is about finding a creative solution when conventional paths fail. Consider the example of “skunkwood,” a product nobody wanted until it was rebranded and marketed differently. A problem became an opportunity because someone had the courage to think outside the box. The takeaway? Rebrand your setbacks. Shift your perspective. Ask, how can I see this challenge in a new way? That's how you transform problems into platforms. Loyalty and Commitment: Treat Every Task as Your Legacy Success is not about doing what's easy; it's about doing what's right. Commitment means treating every assignment, no matter how small, as if it will define your legacy. Loyalty and follow-through open doors you cannot yet see. A job well done today plants the seeds of tomorrow's opportunity. This is why attitude is more important than aptitude. Skills matter, but character is what sustains you when the spotlight is off. Power of a Positive Mindset Your mindset is either your prison or your passport. William Peck's mantra, “It shall be done,” embodies the spirit of action without excuses. Leaders don't dwell on victimhood. They decide. They act. The truth is, your beliefs shape your reality. A positive mindset helps you navigate uncertainty with resilience. It empowers you to see what's possible, not just what's hard. In this episode of Tim Stating the Obvious, we dig into “How to Design the Life You Want: A Practical Framework.” Too often we ask ourselves “What do you want to be when you grow up?” when the real question should be, “What do you want to grow into?” Because success isn't about a single job or destination—it's about designing the life you want step by step. Using the Army's Be, Know, Do philosophy as a guide, we'll explore a time-tested tool for designing the life you want to lead. First, clarify who you are becoming—the values and character that define you. Then, identify the knowledge and skills you need, and finally, take decisive action. This is about more than motivation—it's about how to design a system to get your goals accomplished and live the life you want. The bottom line: remember, it's up to you, and only you, to design the life you want. If you don't take ownership, someone else will—and their version may not match designing the life you really want. Welcome back to Tim Stating the Obvious, where we cut through the noise and get to what really works. In this episode, we're breaking down the “DO” principles of leadership—taken straight from the U.S. Army Field Manual 22-100—and translating them into practical tools you can use today in business, life, and leadership. Core Takeaways You Can Act On Immediately: Influence with Purpose Don't just give tasks—explain why they matter. When people understand the reason behind the work, they show up differently. Get input. Praise effort. Influence starts with clear communication and genuine motivation. Operate with Flexibility Plans are great—until they get punched in the face by reality. That's why effective leaders build plans that can bend, not break. Trust your team to make decisions, and assess what's working so you can pivot with purpose. Improve Through Coaching and Feedback You don't get better by avoiding mistakes. You grow by learning from them. Give real-time feedback. Build trust. And create space for your team to fail forward. Growth starts when you stop fearing failure. Lead by Doing The “DO” principle means action. Not theory. Not titles. Action. Real leaders don't just delegate—they engage. They walk around. They stay human. They coach, connect, and correct with humility. Whether you're leading in the office, the military, your community, or your own household—these principles apply. They aren't fancy. They're obvious. And they work. If this episode hits home, share it. Subscribe. And tag me @TimStatingTheObvious to show me how you're putting these principles into practice. In this episode, we tackle a critical leadership gap — the missing interpersonal skills no one teaches but everyone needs. We explore why great leadership isn't reserved for titles or positions — it's something every person deserves at home, work, and in the community. Our conversation dives into Richard Reid's book, Charisma Unlocked, which breaks the myth that charisma is something you're born with. Instead, charisma is a learnable skill built on four key pillars: Presence — the ability to be fully engaged in the moment Power — projecting confidence without dominance Warmth — connecting with genuine care Competence — earning trust through your skills We unpack how these pillars amplify your impact in leadership, business, negotiations, and personal relationships. As Reid shares, charisma isn't just an advantage — it's a leadership “force multiplier” that helps you connect, influence, and inspire authentically. You'll hear practical steps on mastering first impressions, nonverbal communication, and building emotional connections that people won't forget — echoing Maya Angelou's wisdom that people remember how you made them feel. Whether you're leading a team, making your next pitch, or stepping into a tough conversation, this episode gives you actionable insights from Charisma Unlocked to help you unlock your influence and grow your authentic leadership style. Credible Leadership: Gain Trust and Inspire Others

In this episode, we're digging into the second pillar of the Army's leadership model: KNOW. Now, this isn't just military theory—it's a practical reminder that leadership isn't about winging it. It's about showing up prepared, grounded, and equipped. Whether you're in uniform, running a business, or leading in your home, the principles are the same. Leadership starts with who you are—your character, your values. That's the BE. But once you've got that foundation, you need to sharpen what you KNOW—the skills and knowledge that make you credible and effective. This is where competence is built, and trust is earned. To master the “KNOW” side of leadership, you've got to build in four key areas: Interpersonal, Conceptual, Technical, and Tactical skills. These aren't just categories—they're tools you carry every day. They help you lead with clarity, confidence, and relevance in a fast-changing world. Let's break them down. At the heart of leadership is the ability to connect with people. I'm talking about real connection—not just giving orders or checking boxes. This means listening, asking the right questions, and learning what drives the people around you. If you want to build trust, get out of your office. Walk the floor. Ask your team what matters to them, how their job fits into the bigger picture, and what gets them fired up—or frustrated. People aren't problems to be solved—they're relationships to be built. And those relationships? They're your force multipliers. Leadership is a thinking game. It requires mental agility—being able to step back, look at the big picture, and make sense of complex, high-stress situations. This includes critical thinking—spotting your own blind spots and questioning your assumptions. It's creative thinking—asking, “What if we did this differently?” And it's sound judgment—the ability to make the hard calls when the pressure's on. No amount of skill can replace the power of good judgment forged through reflection and experience. You don't need to do everyone's job—but you do need to understand it. You should know the systems, tools, and processes your team relies on. If you're leading a creative team, learn the basics of the software they use. If you oversee logistics, understand how the supply chain actually moves. When you understand the tools, you earn credibility. And more importantly, you can make better decisions. This technical foundation strengthens your tactical edge. This is where the rubber meets the road—decision-making in real time, under pressure. Tactical leadership isn't theory—it's action. It's knowing how to move when the path isn't clear and making calls when there's no time to phone a friend. The best way to build tactical skill is through experience—real or simulated. Get into environments where the stakes are high. Test yourself. Learn what it feels like to make decisions when everything's on the line. Over time, you'll start recognizing patterns, trusting your instincts, and leading with confidence—even in chaos. Here's the deal: competence grows with responsibility. The more people you lead, the more sharpened your skills need to be. You don't “arrive” as a leader—you keep growing. So how do you build that growth into your life? Try this: Seek Feedback – Don't lead in isolation. Invite input. Ask people you trust, “Where can I grow?” Study and Reflect – Make reflection a daily practice. Think through decisions. Learn from outcomes. Master the Tools – Learn your trade. Stay sharp. Stay relevant. Train Under Pressure – Volunteer for the hard things. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Leadership is preparation. It's not just about knowing what to do—it's about being the kind of leader who's ready when it counts. When you combine who you are with what you know, you build trust. And when people trust you, they'll follow you—even when the way forward isn't clear. So focus on your KNOW. Stay a student. Keep sharpening your edge. Because leadership isn't about being perfect—it's about showing up ready, reliable, and real.   Connect with Tim: Website: timstatingtheobvious.com Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/timstatingtheobvious Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHfDcITKUdniO8R3RP0lvdw  Instagram: @TimStating Tiktok: @timstatingtheobvious   00:00 Introduction to Leadership Framework 01:06 Understanding the ‘Know' Phase 02:58 Interpersonal Skills: Building Connections 04:41 Conceptual Skills: Critical Thinking and Creativity 06:47 Technical Skills: Mastering Your Tools 08:03 Tactical Skills: Decision-Making Under Pressure 09:49 Practical Steps to Enhance Leadership Skills 12:25 The Importance of Preparation in Leadership #LeadershipDevelopment #ArmyLeadership #LeadershipSkills #ProfessionalGrowth #CareerDevelopment #CriticalThinking #CommunicationSkills #DecisionMaking #PersonalDevelopment #TimStatonTheObvious

In this episode, we explore the idea that leadership isn't about a title—it's about how you show up, the influence you have, and the impact you leave behind. Richard and I break down the difference between charisma and charm. Charm might win a room for a moment, but charisma leaves a lasting impression—it's about creating real, authentic connections that make people feel seen, heard, and better about themselves. Charisma isn't about spotlighting yourself. It's about understanding others—their emotions, their motivations—and helping them see their own potential. That's the kind of leadership people remember. We also talk about how the speed of life and our dependence on technology can dull our human edge. Remote work, packed calendars, and back-to-back Zooms leave little room for reflection or meaningful connection. Richard points out that when every interaction feels transactional, we lose the emotional depth that real leadership requires. The antidote? Be intentional. Create small pauses. Give yourself even a minute between meetings to reset, refocus, and reconnect—not just with others, but with yourself. Charisma isn't just something you're born with—it's something you can build. Richard shares practical steps: Start by setting an intention before every interaction. Ask yourself, What kind of energy do I want to bring into this room? Tune into your emotional state. If you're stressed or scattered, slow your breathing. Ground yourself. Pay attention to how you show up—not just what you say, but how you make people feel. Leadership lives in those quiet transitions—between meetings, before calls, in the spaces where you choose how to respond. We also dig into authenticity and that quiet voice of doubt so many of us wrestle with—imposter syndrome. Richard shares a simple but powerful idea: run small experiments. Share a little more of who you are in low-risk spaces. Let people see the human behind the role. You'll be surprised by how it builds connection—and confidence. We talk about how authenticity isn't weakness. It's your strength. Especially for women in leadership who often navigate the tension between being assertive and being seen as “too much” or “not enough,” authenticity can be a powerful anchor. Practice vulnerability in safe circles. Then bring it into the bigger arenas where it matters most. Leadership also means taking the time to reflect. Richard encourages building a daily rhythm of looking back—not just on what you did, but how it made you feel. What energized you? What drained you? These patterns reveal your values. And once you know what drives you, you can lead with more clarity and purpose. We close the conversation by talking about psychological safety. It's more than a buzzword—it's the foundation for real leadership. If people don't feel safe to speak up, you'll never get their best thinking. As a leader, your job is to create space where people feel they can take risks, share honestly, and show up as themselves. If leadership is about impact, then charisma, authenticity, and reflection are the tools that help you leave a mark that lasts. This episode is about learning how to lead not just with your head, but with your heart.   Connect With Richard:  website: www.richard-reid.com email: richard@pinnaclewellbeingservice.com   Connect with Tim: Website: timstatingtheobvious.com Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/timstatingtheobvious Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHfDcITKUdniO8R3RP0lvdw  Instagram: @TimStating Tiktok: @timstatingtheobvious   #LeadershipDevelopment #Charisma #EmotionalIntelligence #AuthenticLeadership #PsychologicalSafety #CommunicationSkills #RichardBranson #OprahWinfrey #BusinessCoaching #LeadershipPodcast

Book Review: The 7 Commitments of a Great Team

Leadership has evolved. It's no longer about titles or hierarchy—it's about trust, influence, and connection. That's why The Seven Commitments of a Great Team by Jon Gordon stands out. This book doesn't just inspire—it equips. It gives you a practical framework for leading people in a way that builds trust, clarity, and shared purpose, especially when teams feel stretched, disconnected, or uncertain about their direction. Leadership isn't confined to boardrooms or org charts. It's about how you treat people, how you handle pressure, and how you create an environment where others can thrive. Whether you're leading in business, your home, or your community—people deserve leadership rooted in character. That's what this book offers: usable, real-world insights for becoming the kind of leader others want to follow. Gordon starts with what matters most: trust. Without it, a group of people is just that—a group. Not a team. He lays out practical trust-building habits like weekly check-ins where team members share wins and challenges. These small moments become the foundation for deeper connection and accountability. Another critical takeaway is clarity. Misunderstandings, especially in hybrid or decentralized teams, can derail momentum fast. Gordon emphasizes that it's not just about having a vision—it's about repeating it, refining it, and helping people see how they fit into it. Clarity creates ownership. Then there's accountability, reframed in a way that's not about micromanagement—it's about commitment. He offers a tool I particularly like: personal commitment contracts. Simple, powerful, and effective. People don't just say what they're going to do—they put it in writing and own it. This book is short, sharp, and full of takeaways you can use immediately. Each chapter ends with actionable steps, making it easy to translate principles into behavior. That said, if your team is dealing with deep dysfunction or serious cultural issues, this book may feel like a starting point rather than a full solution. Still, it's a book I'd recommend to any leader—new or experienced—who wants to build a team that performs with purpose. The Seven Commitments of a Great Team gives you a language, a structure, and a mindset that's built for real life—not just the classroom. Mind the Gap: Why You're Failing to Lead Across Generations

We are all entitled to great leadership—at home, at work, and in our communities. That's not just a lofty idea—it's a standard. But here's the reality: the leadership models we've inherited were built for a different time. In today's rapidly evolving world, especially with millennials and Gen Z making up most of the future workforce, it's time we adapt. That's where intergenerational leadership steps in. Leadership expert Mai Moore breaks it down simply: intergenerational leadership is about connecting different age groups to foster understanding and increase impact. It's about bridging gaps, not widening them. If we're going to attract, retain, and grow top talent, our leadership must evolve. And that means listening to what each generation brings to the table. Understanding Generational Differences at Work Here's the deal: up to six generations are in today's workforce, and each comes with different values, expectations, and communication styles. There's a major gap between how seasoned executives operate and how Gen Z thinks. But no generation has all the answers. That's why collaboration is key. This doesn't mean leaders have to abandon their experience. It means using that experience to guide, while staying open to the ideas and innovations younger workers bring. Great leaders know how to coach—not control—and how to mentor without micromanaging. Shared Values Across the Generational Divide Despite our differences, we all want the same core things: a better world, meaningful work, good health, happiness, and purpose. It's not always about money. It's about value—value in our roles, our relationships, and our contributions. Leaders must focus on what matters to the whole team. That includes creating clarity in expectations, showing employees how their work connects to a bigger mission, and encouraging them to take initiative without dampening their enthusiasm. Communication: The Real Leadership Superpower If we're going to close the generational gap, we need to improve how we talk—and listen—to one another. Each generation has its own way of communicating. Some prefer face-to-face, others thrive on digital. Effective leadership means being flexible and understanding both. Mai Moore offers a powerful tool used in military leadership: repeat back what you heard. It may seem simple, but it builds trust, ensures clarity, and reduces conflict. Communication should always be a two-way street. Mentorship should be too. Mutual respect opens the door for shared learning—seasoned professionals can pass on wisdom, and younger team members can introduce fresh, modern perspectives. Self-Awareness: Leadership Starts Within Before you can lead others, you have to face yourself. That means knowing your strengths, acknowledging your blind spots, and recognizing how your actions affect those around you. Self-awareness isn't about being perfect—it's about being present. It's understanding how your past experiences shape your leadership and being willing to evolve. Leaders who do the inner work build stronger, more resilient teams. Mai Moore shares this truth: the answers aren't out there—they're already within you. It's time to start asking better questions and leading with purpose. In this episode of Tim Stating the Obvious, we tackle one of the most urgent leadership issues of our time: the growing mental health crisis among today's youth and young professionals. Based on Jonathan Haidt's provocative book, The Anxious Generation, we break down how smartphones and social media rewired childhood, stunted emotional resilience, and left a generation more anxious, less connected, and struggling in the workplace. But here's the catch—this isn't just a parenting problem. It's a leadership challenge. As Gen Z enters the workforce, their struggles with screen addiction, face-to-face discomfort, and emotional fragility show up in team dynamics, productivity, and culture. If you want to lead effectively in the modern age, you've got to understand what's happening beneath the surface. We'll unpack Haidt's core recommendations—like limiting screen time, encouraging unstructured outdoor play, and promoting real-world challenges—and translate them into actionable leadership strategies. In this insightful episode, we dive deep into the differences between your brain and your mind. The brain, much like computer hardware, is the physical organ responsible for transmitting and receiving thought frequencies. Meanwhile, your mind acts as the operating system—an intangible force made up of conscious and subconscious components, directing your brain's actions. Your subconscious mind operates quietly beneath your conscious awareness, shaping your thoughts, emotions, habits, and behaviors. Through intentional practices like repetition, auto-suggestion, and visualization, you can program your subconscious mind to attract the opportunities and resources needed to fulfill your dreams. Speaking positively and cultivating supportive environments are essential, as your subconscious internalizes your words and surroundings. Think of your brain as a radio—constantly tuning into frequencies that align with your thoughts. Positive thinking will draw positive outcomes, while negative thoughts inevitably lead to negative experiences. Training your mind to view situations positively, regardless of immediate circumstances, shapes your personal beliefs and the reality you experience. Thanks to neuroplasticity, your brain is always capable of forming new connections based on repeated thoughts and actions. Visualization—mentally rehearsing desired outcomes—strengthens these neural pathways and boosts performance. Amplifying visualization with powerful emotions further anchors your core values and goals. Creating vision boards is another practical way to keep your dreams front and center.   Learn Practical Application Tips and how to Avoid Pitfalls… Connect with Tim: Website: timstatingtheobvious.com Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/timstatingtheobvious Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHfDcITKUdniO8R3RP0lvdw  Instagram: @TimStating Tiktok: @timstatingtheobvious #subconsciousmind #brainpower #visualization #mindset #neuroplasticity #personalgrowth #successmindset #selfimprovement #leadership

This episode features a conversation with Eric Charran, author of “Have You Ever Had a Boss That...,” discussing workplace dysfunction and strategies for thriving in challenging environments. The discussion centers around identifying common causes of dysfunction, understanding different manager archetypes, and turning negative experiences into opportunities for personal and professional growth. Eric and I begin by exploring the root causes of workplace dysfunction, which often stem from a lack of leadership training and the inheritance of outdated management styles. Leaders may adopt unhelpful behaviors due to a lack of proper training or by mimicking ineffective approaches they've observed in the past. The key is to understand that leaders have different toolboxes, and they may not have the right tools or emotional intelligence for organizational leadership. Charran categorizes different managers into unique archetypes, each with distinct behaviors and impacts on their teams.  To manage these archetypes, Eric advocates for “managing upwards” by empathizing with the manager's motivations and challenges. Defining a personal and professional vision is vital for providing direction and purpose in life. A personal vision encompasses the big picture of the life you want to live, focusing on values, relationships, health, and legacy. A professional vision involves setting clear career goals, defining achievements, and outlining leadership roles you want to pursue. Setting a vision helps in moving intentionally towards goals and avoiding life's distractions. The mastermind mentality involves intentionally surrounding yourself with individuals who challenge, sharpen, and support your growth. It recognizes that success is not a solitary endeavor, emphasizing the importance of mutually beneficial relationships. Drawing from Proverbs 27:17, the concept of “iron sharpens iron” illustrates that friends should help bring out the best in each other, even through potentially painful processes. This involves creating a circle of like-minded individuals committed to personal and professional advancement. Creating a mastermind group involves finding individuals with shared objectives and a commitment to mutual success. It is important to reevaluate your circle if it does not align with these principles. The goal is to foster an environment where everyone contributes to leveling up together. Accountability, diverse perspectives, and emotional support are key benefits of a mastermind group, helping members stay on track and overcome challenges. I will highlight the importance of vision as the “why” and the mastermind mentality as the “how” in achieving success. Success is rarely achieved in isolation but rather through collaboration and mutual support. Sharing your vision with others and building a supportive circle can significantly accelerate progress. Moreover, remember, if you want to achieve your vision, your circle must be a place that helps you grow. Dominate Your Vision: Decisiveness and Persistence

Introduction: The Power of Decisiveness and Persistence I understand that decisiveness and persistence are vital for transforming my dreams into reality. I've seen how many people remain in the “what if” stage, which I can overcome by adopting these two principles. I appreciate the supporters of the show's Indiegogo campaign. I know I must act on knowledge through decision and persistence. Decisiveness: Making Firm Choices I need to make firm decisions to avoid losing momentum. My decisiveness involves choosing a definite course of action while eliminating alternatives. I understand the distinction between choices, which offer fallback plans, and true decisions, which leave no room for alternatives. I know my hesitation and indecision waste time and lead to missed opportunities. To enhance my decisiveness, I'll set clear criteria aligned with my vision, as I learned from Katya's interview. I'll use the “five-second rule” by counting down from five before making decisions. I recognize how too many choices can lead to paralysis, just like in restaurant menus. Persistence: Overcoming Setbacks and Staying Committed I know persistence means sticking to my chosen path despite facing setbacks and failures. It connects with my discipline and grit, helping me overcome obstacles and learn from mistakes. I'll focus on having a clear purpose, a definite plan, ignoring naysayers, and cultivating my support system. I'll break down my vision into smaller, manageable steps and focus on daily progress. I'll work with accountability partners and revisit my “why” every day. I'm inspired by J.K. Rowling's story of persistence through numerous rejections. Synergy of Decision and Persistence I understand that my decisiveness initiates action, while my persistence sustains it through challenges and doubts. I look to role models like Steve Jobs who demonstrate how bold decisions, coupled with persistence through failures, can lead to success. I'll reflect on decisions I need to make and areas where I need increased persistence. Conclusion I know that decision propels my progress, and persistence ensures I stay in the game, building success through bold choices and relentless effort. I'll share my stories of decisiveness and persistence, and I look forward to learning about mastermind groups in the next topic. Core Points: I believe decisiveness and persistence are essential for turning my visions into reality. I need to make firm decisions quickly to maintain momentum. I must differentiate between choices (with fallback plans) and decisions (no wiggle room). I understand that my indecision allows time to decide for me. To improve my decisiveness, I'll set clear criteria aligned with my vision, use the five-second rule, and limit my options to avoid analysis paralysis. I'll cultivate persistence by knowing my purpose, planning, blocking negativity, and building my supportive network. I can build persistence by breaking my visions into smaller steps, finding accountability partners, and revisiting my “why” daily for sustained commitment. I know decision initiates action, while persistence sustains it through challenges. I'll embrace failures as learning opportunities. I emphasize that my success isn't solely dependent on hard work; it also requires working smarter by developing specialized skills, utilizing my imagination, and crafting an organized plan. I focus on principles such as acquiring specific knowledge relevant to my goals, using my imagination to overcome limitations and foster creativity, and establishing a clear, actionable plan. Specialized knowledge is crucial for achieving my visions, as illustrated by examples like pursuing culinary arts to open a Michelin-star restaurant. I suggest alternative learning methods beyond traditional education, including online courses and mentorship, to fill my knowledge gaps and facilitate immediate learning. I view imagination as vital for innovation and problem-solving, distinguishing between synthetic and creative types. I discuss the importance of brainstorming and visualization, along with identifying innovative side hustles. However, I understand that creativity must be paired with organized planning to transform ideas into reality, ensuring progress through specific goals, deadlines, and adaptability. I encourage myself to take immediate action, share my plans for collaboration, and maintain a mindset focused on improvement and value addition.   Website: timstatingtheobvious.com Social Interaction Platforms: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/timstatingtheobvious Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHfDcITKUdniO8R3RP0lvdw  Instagram: @TimStating Tiktok: @timstatingtheobvious   #Leadership #Success #Imagination #SpecializedKnowledge #OrganizedPlanning #Entrepreneurship #PersonalDevelopment #GoalSetting #CreativeThinking #Vision #Innovation #Learning #Mentorship #Mindset #ActionableSteps #Inspiration

How Senior Leaders Embrace Social Media

On Tim Stating the Obvious, I had the chance to interview, Jess Jensen, to get her insights on the importance of effective leadership in both professional and personal environments. As a communication strategist, she explored the impact of social media on leadership and discussed her commitment to servant leadership and creating meaningful digital connections. She founded Co-Pilot Communications with the goal of helping leaders enhance their digital presence, aiming to inspire optimism and drive positive change. Throughout her career, Jess has held positions at major companies like Microsoft and Adidas, supported by her educational background in psychology and business administration. During my conversation with Jess, she emphasized the evolution of social media from a personal tool to an essential business resource, noting how many senior leaders are now actively engaged on these platforms. However, there's a noticeable inconsistency in how effectively leaders utilize social media—some build genuine connections, while others rely on outdated PR tactics that fail to engage. Jess also touched on challenges faced by leaders, particularly those with military backgrounds, in navigating social media without jeopardizing their careers. She suggested starting with clear social media policies developed in collaboration with legal and communications teams. Jess offers five strategies for authentically enhancing an online presence, highlighting the importance of supporting team members rather than competing with customers. Publicly recognizing employees is crucial for boosting engagement and loyalty. Jess shared an example from Qualcomm, where the CEO acknowledged an employee's adaptability during the pandemic, illustrating how such recognition can be more impactful than financial rewards. She emphasized the importance of acknowledging both customers and employees to strengthen relationships and morale, urging senior leaders to establish thought leadership on social media based on their experiences. Leaders should clearly articulate their visions for the future of their industries, engaging audiences with personal values and insights beyond company metrics. Successful thought leadership develops over time through consistent sharing and engagement with feedback, as demonstrated by Scott Galloway's ability to predict industry trends using technology, marketing, and economics. Qualitative feedback is vital in shaping business strategies, and Jess highlighted Brian Chesky, CEO of Airbnb, as an example of effectively addressing customer input. She recommended starting with small social media interactions, especially on LinkedIn, to build a rhythm of engagement. Two-way communication is key, along with collaboration strategies between marketing and public relations teams. During her time at Qualcomm, she worked on integrating digital marketing with PR efforts, advocating for breaking presentations into smaller content pieces for broader reach. At Co-Pilot Communications, her approach with clients involves thorough preparation and understanding their needs through a three-phase operational method, starting with strategic audience identification and self-evaluation for effective communication. This process includes consulting with others to understand their communication style and conducting a detailed audit of their digital presence. Best practices from industry leaders inform the development of a narrative roadmap aligned with the leader's values. The “flight plan” phase operationalizes this strategy through platform training, such as LinkedIn, equipping leaders for effective communication. Jess's strategy includes updating social media profiles, creating a 30-day content calendar, and measuring engagement rates and qualitative sentiment. Regular evaluations allow for content adjustments, and sharing plans with team members ensures collaboration. She places great value on measurement and feedback, preferring clients who are curious and open to experimentation. Reflecting on successful collaborations with companies like Adidas and Microsoft, Jess attributes her success to supportive leadership. Her ideal client is self-aware and mindful of their leadership style and digital legacy. Managing one's digital footprint is crucial to avoid unintended legacies, promoting authenticity in blending personal and professional lives. The changes brought by the pandemic have encouraged transparency and vulnerability, fostering a culture of humility and goal orientation beneficial to both work and family life.   Connect with Jess Jensen: https://www.copilotcommunications.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/jessicakjensen/   Tim Staton Social Interaction Platforms: Website: timstatingtheobvious.com Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/timstatingtheobvious Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHfDcITKUdniO8R3RP0lvdw  Instagram: @TimStating Tiktok: @timstatingtheobvious #Leadership #DigitalMarketing #SocialMedia #ThoughtLeadership #EmployeeEngagement #CommunicationStrategies #Podcasting #ServantLeadership #BusinessGrowth #PersonalBranding #ContentCreation #Networking #DigitalPresence #HumanityInBusiness #CSuiteLeadership

Crafting Your Legacy: From Vision to Reality

In my journey to distinguish between having a vision and setting goals, I've come to realize the profound importance of crafting a clear personal vision statement. This isn't just about setting goals; it's about outlining my long-term aspirations and the legacy I wish to leave behind. The path to realizing a vision is fraught with challenges, and I often ponder whether a vision that doesn't materialize was merely a goal in disguise. Through deep self-reflection, I've learned to peel back the layers of superficial goals to uncover my true desires. I've realized the danger of aimlessness and the power of writing down specific desires tied to a clear vision, understanding the motivations behind them. Faith, as I see it—a blend of belief, trust, and action—is the driving force behind achieving my vision. I find inspiration in the metaphor of Indiana Jones stepping onto an invisible bridge, reminding me that true faith involves moving forward, even when the path isn't clear. My faith in God and Jesus is the bedrock of my journey. To keep myself accountable and confident, I write down my goals and share them with others. I've noticed how external influences, especially from the media, can shape my desires, so I practice repeatedly affirming my personal vision to stay focused and ward off negativity. Tools like vision boards or index cards help me internalize and regularly revisit my vision. It's crucial for me to eliminate distractions and influences that don't align with my goals because engaging in activities that detract from my ambitions only stalls my progress. Consistent self-affirmation and unwavering dedication to my vision are my keys to success. I'm excited to explore how social media can be leveraged for leadership in upcoming discussions. It's vital for me to maintain control over my vision and legacy, ensuring they're not shaped by others. I look forward to diving deeper into these concepts in future episodes, strengthening my resolve to shape my destiny. #PersonalVision #LeadershipDevelopment #VisionVsGoals #FaithAndAction #VisionBoard #MindsetMatters #GoalSetting #Inspiration #LifeGoals #LeadershipPrinciples #MotivationMonday #GrowthMindset #LegacyBuilding #AutoSuggestion #IntentionalLiving #TimStaton #PodcastCommunity #VisionaryLeadership #AchieveYourGoals #ReflectAndGrow Website: timstatingtheobvious.com Social Interaction Platforms: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/timstatingtheobvious Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHfDcITKUdniO8R3RP0lvdw  Instagram: @TimStating Tiktok: @timstatingtheobvious

Welcome to Season 6. I'm incredibly grateful for your support and encourage you to keep sharing. Looking ahead, I plan to introduce new content, including video interviews and a book review, all focused on addressing the needs of senior leaders and executives. My aim is to provide insights on personal and organizational improvement by identifying gaps in leadership strategies. I believe everyone deserves great leadership in both personal and professional realms, and I advocate for the development of a personal vision. This vision should provide clarity, motivation, and alignment with your core values. I've highlighted three key principles: clarity and direction, motivation and resiliency, and alignment and fulfillment. A personal vision should serve as your guiding star, help you stay focused amidst challenges, and align your actions with your core values for a meaningful life. I encourage you to define and document your personal vision to achieve life fulfillment, referencing Habakkuk 2:2-3 to stress the importance of accountability and motivation. Even if progress is slow, maintaining faith in your vision is essential, as personal growth may be required before it materializes. I urge you to reflect on your goals for the upcoming year, keeping your “why” at the forefront to stay focused and committed.   Social Interaction Platforms: Website: timstatingtheobvious.com Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/timstatingtheobvious Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHfDcITKUdniO8R3RP0lvdw  Instagram: @TimStating Tiktok: @timstatingtheobvious   #Leadership #Vision #PersonalDevelopment #GoalSetting #Motivation #Resilience #Clarity #Fulfillment #SeniorLeaders #CLevel #Coaching #Accountability #Inspiration #Podcast #TimStaton
