When Megan Gale kickstarted her modelling career in the early 2000s, she hardly expected she would still be at it as she approached her 50th birthday. But that’s exactly what has come to pass. On this episode of Something To Talk About, Megan joins Sarrah to discuss learning to be less hard on herself, and why it’s not so easy to – in her words – “push her buttons” any more. She also opens up about learning the hard way what happens when a woman dares to speak her mind and why, seven years into what she dubs “the longest engagement ever” to her fiancé Shaun Hampson, she is still in no rush to get married. This year, Megan Gale returned as a Friend of David Jones. You can find out more about it here. Read Megan’s profile with Stellar here. We bring the 2nd Unit back to dip our toes into Development Hell once again...kind of! As a pseudo-sequel of our Superman Lives episodes, we dig into the history of what was supposed to be Justice League: Mortal, the short-lived but fascinating first attempt at the superhero team-up. Directed by George Miller, written by Kieran and Michelle Mulroney, and starring a surprisingly young cast including Armie Hammer, Common, and Jay Baruchel, this goofy comic-book-accurate project met insurmountable obstacles on the way to production. We break down the full cast and story of this project (thanks in large part to cast interviews, articles from Collider, and the great work of the Canceled Movie Report podcast), go over a brief history of the Justice League, and explore the biggest reasons for this film's collapse: the Australian government and the 2007-2008 Writers' Guild of America strike. We marvel at the gambit of casting such young actors for such iconic adult roles, give a brief lesson on rabies symptoms, hypothesize future advancements in villainous tracking technology, have a fun discussion on currency conversion rates and tax credits, subject you to some truly awful Batman voices, remind you that Jack is still trying to track down a VHS copy of Nukie to torture Joe with, bring awareness to the pitfalls of bad acronyms/initialisms, Jack plugs his latest creative project, and we ask a question we've been wondering for some time: do the members of the Justice League all share a tailor? Suit up, settle into the Brother Eye console, and enjoy the show. If there was one thing you think society should talk more about, what would it be?“When you own your story you own your power and this can be VERY uncomfortable, but incredibly life changing.” ______ Whilst leading a successful Brand Comms agency, Torstar for nearly 20years, Tory Archbold had a pivotal moment. She'd had a near death experience and found herself standing in a courtroom representing herself after 10 years of being aggressively stalked by an ex. After winning the case she knew her life would never be the same again. She wanted a life with more purpose. It was time to reshape her story. After twenty years of being ‘behind the scenes' as one of Australia's most powerful publicists, working with top name brands and celebrities like Drew Barrymore, Megan Gale, Zara, Nespresso and Victoria's Secret, Tory felt it was time to step forward and own her own story. She used this momentum and founded Powerful Steps in 2019 – a platform designed to inspire, encourage and guide women through the different challenges of life. Tory is a gorgeous human and is passionate about sharing her learnings and knowledge to mentor and empower others. As someone who has taken a few years to truly own my own story and step into the power of that, I was super excited to talk to Tory and pick her brains a little. Do you trust your gut instinct? Maybe you only trust it in certain aspects of your life like work or relationships? Sometimes our gut feeling is our best indicator of which direction to take, but learning to tune in to it can be a journey. Today I am joined by Tory Archbold the Founder and Director of Powerful Steps. Prior to 2019 Tory was running the Global PR agency Torstar, launching big brands, celebrities, and influencers such as Megan Gale, Nespresso, Victoria's Secret and Drew Barrymore in the Australian market. However, while she was getting everyone else's message out to the world, she realised she had her own story to tell. Launching Torstar in her twenties, she had built a fabulous life as a single mum, running a global business with a team of 22 including two executive assistants. It was a near death experience and 10 years of being stalked that gave her a fresh perspective. She wanted a life with more purpose. Today, Tory is the CEO of Powerful Steps where she is on a mission to share her toolkit with high octane businesswomen to plot their personal roadmap to success. This was such a fabulous conversation with Tory where we journeyed through her previous business Torstar and the possibilities and opportunities that she has embraced to see her create Powerful Steps. In this episode of the ‘Making It Count’ podcast, we sit down with founder of Powerful Steps, Tory Archbold. Tory founded the globally recognised PR agency ‘Torstar’ and was at the top of her game working with influencers like Megan Gale, Zara, Nespresso, Victoria’s Secret and Steve Madden. However, for three years each time she did a launch ‘a little bit of my heart was saying-this is the last time you will do this Tory.’ Sitting at the launch of Drew Barrymore’s ‘Flower Beauty’ listening to her speak about surviving tough times, Tory had her ‘ah-ha’ moment and thought ‘lady, I see you and raise you five. You know what, I’m done.’ And she was – she stepped away from PR to get her life back. Tory had her own story to tell. ‘I wanted a life with more purpose’ says Tory ‘It was time to reshape my story and step into my power zone.’ So, took some time out to re-evaluate and using her forward momentum, founded Powerful Steps in 2019 – A platform to inspire, encourage and empower others to step outside their comfort zone and into their power zone. ‘My values are passion, integrity and delivery – my success is your success’ says Tory. After a near-death experience and ten years of being stalked, Tory gained a fresh perspective. She took the bravest step of all and publicly revealed her personal mask. ‘There is power in connection. I wanted to be a better version of myself to teach others that challenges can become possibilities.’ Julie met Tory through her ‘Business Attraction Program’ where she has been able to develop relationships with other value-aligned female entrepreneurs. A big part of why Tory is so successful is the power of her brand and how she can attract value-sharing people to that brand. She shares with us the key to having a successful and powerful personal brand to ensure it attracts what you want - ‘When you connect with someone, the first thing they will do is google you – so invest in some good imagery for LinkedIn’, and secondly ‘work on the first three sentences of your bio and understand your 5-point story’. It's all about investing in your own story, understanding the power of that story and translating that into a powerful communication tool so that people want to connect with you. ‘You need to believe in yourself and the power if your story’ say Tory ‘the most successful leaders are uncomfortable to be able to step into a higher vibration.’ ‘A happy heart is a magnet for miracles’ say Tory, ‘my life is now in alignment and I am happy’. So, strip out what doesn’t serve you and make yourself available to the things that serve you and your value set. So, sit back and enjoy this episode with as Tory Archbold Makes It Count. Australian model, brand ambassador, entrepreneur and actor Megan Gale is one of Australia’s most adored personalities. Born in Perth, her career began when she won a modelling competition at 18 in her hometown. The winner was told they would not only grace the cover of the now defunct CLEO magazine, but also feature in an eight-page fashion shoot inside the magazine. When the issue came out, Megan wasn’t on the cover. And there was no eight-page shoot. It was a defining moment in her life and a reminder that the life of a model or celebrity isn’t always as glamorous as it seems. But she did exactly what her mother taught her to do – she picked herself up, got on with it and never looked back. Megan recently wrote the foreword for a powerful new book about self-love and acceptance called THIS IS ME, by photographer Julie Adams and our host and founder Georgie Abay. In it, she opened up about how we all have moments of self-doubt. “When you’re someone in my position, you are more prone to being criticised by the public and being put under a microscope… Yet, my feelings about it are still the same as the average person. In that, you feel very vulnerable, and very exposed… I'm not superhuman or immune to those kind of feelings,” she tells Georgie. Today, she talks about the inspiration for her lifestyle company Mindful Life, which launched one year ago, and how the foundation of her business was not wanting to wish away those early months of motherhood away, as hard as they can be. To Megan, being mindful means “being absolutely present” and essentially, she wanted to create products for children and their parents, which would inspire us to be more mindful in all that we do, whether that’s give our child a bath and really be in the moment, or give our baby a massage and get lost in their heavenly gurgles and giggles. In today’s conversation, we explore: Experiencing death and new life simultaneously – Megan’s father passed away when her son River was 14 weeks old. How our expectations often lead to disappointment – and why her mother always taught her to pick herself up and keep going. Why it’s okay to not feel super confident and love yourself all the time. How we’ve all got the ability to be mindful, it just takes practice. How we've all got triggers that make us stressed, but we've also got triggers that make us happy, uplift us and reenergise us. Why it’s like starting a business from the ground up. The Mindful Life mission. The self-love journey we are all on and why no one is immune from self-doubt. Life is about learning to adapt and let things go that no longer serve us. Today on the podcast I had on a friend, Lola Berry. Lola is someone who has mastered the art of letting go of what doesn’t serve her and being compassionate to herself in the process. She is a nutritionist, author, accredited yoga teacher, content creator, presenter, speaker, podcaster and entrepreneur who has a colorful approach to nutrition. In this episode, we chat about why failures need to be celebrated and about cultivating a willingness to learn, take a chance and see how things go. We talk about a few of her entrepreneurial endeavors including her shift from a smoothie business to a coffee business and her experience of going back to school to study acting. She also talks about the importance of keeping people around who are cheering you on and why she thinks everyone should have a therapist. (This episode was pre-recorded on February 11, 2020) What’s in this episode: How Lola and Amy met each other The idea of learning through your struggles and how this brought on Lola’s podcast Why failures need to be celebrated How Lola’s cultivated all of her passions into her purpose Her transition from a smoothie business to a coffee business How writing her book, The Happy Life, helped her through a tricky heartbreak Her advice for people who are nervous to take the next steps What a typical day looks like for Lola Why Lola is studying acting and how she discovered her passion for filming How Lola has learned to let go of what’s no longer serving her Learning to have self-compassion and how to channel your energy into positivity Keeping people around you who are rooting for you Why you shouldn’t base your worth depending on the Instagram algorithm Her advice for someone struggling to prioritize their health and wellness About Lola:Lola Berry is a nutritionist, author, accredited yoga teacher, content creator, presenter, speaker, podcaster and entrepreneur. She’s very colorful. She’s very passionate. She’s very Australian. Over the years she’s admired Steve Irwin and always wanted to bring that passion and enthusiasm to any project she focuses on. Lola’s colourful approach to nutrition is supported by the Bachelor of Health Science she completed at Endeavour College of Natural Health, where she majored in Nutritional Medicine. Her nutrition studies propelled her to write ten books – Inspiring Ingredients, The 20/20 Diet, The 20/20 Diet Cookbook, Lola Berry’s Little Book of Smoothies and Juices, The Happy Cookbook, The Happy Life, Lola Berry’s Summer Food, Food to Make You Glow, Beauty Food and The Yoga Body. In 2017 Lola opened Happy Place by Lola Berry, a smoothie bar co-created with Salvatore Malatesta from St Ali. After a successful 3 year run, the South Melbourne smoothie bar closed its doors so Lola could focus on her new venture – Lola Coffee. Lola launched Lola Coffee to the market in August 2019 and the first batch sold out within hours! The brew is a speciality instant coffee with lion’s mane; it’s a healthy, insane brain tonic coffee. Concurrently in 2019, Lola focused on media work. She completed courses and training in TV presenting (special focus on reading autocue), acting, dialect and voice work. Each of these are aimed at helping build her skill set as a professional speaker, TV presenter and professional media talent. She also launched Fearlessly Failing with Lola Berry – an interview podcast about failures with guests including Megan Gale, Georgia Love and Olivia White. Lola loves to interview people about the lessons and failures that have ultimately led to people's success. It’s the “not so shiny times'' that actually shape us and make us stronger. Lola created, hosts and produces (with Matt Sofo) the podcast. Lola is a highly sought after expert for speaking, nutrition consulting, cooking demonstrations and yoga classes. Lola is also very passionate about mental health and talks about it being the key to all elements of health. Lola’s message is to be real, be kind and chase your dreams, no matter how big they are. In today’s podcast episode, I interview Megan Gale. Megan shares the births of her son River and her daughter Rosie. She delivered both her babies under the care of Private Obstetrician Dr. Len Kilman at the Epworth Hospital. Megan tried for several months to conceive her first baby. She admitted that busy work schedules between both her and her husband restricted their opportunity to try so after a few months they got serious about prioritising their fertile window and conceived their little boy River. Megan generally felt well during her pregnancy despite morning sickness in the first trimester. She had a private class with the well-renowned birth educator Juju Sundin (author of the Birth Skills), and she felt prepared to have an active labour. To hear more about Megan’s pregnancies, her miscarriage and life juggling work and two beautiful babies tune into this week’s episode. Brought to you by

What do you get when you replace Andrew Daddo with Megan Gale? The latest episode of This Glorious Mess, that's what! On the show today Megan Gale and Holly Wainwright explore a parenting style called TRICK; trust, respect, independence, collaboration and kindness. Esther Wojcicki has raised her three daughters using this method and they've all become CEOs and Doctors. And she writes in her new book How To Raise Successful People: "The ultimate goal of TRICK is creating self-responsible people in a self-responsible world. This is what we’re doing as parents, teachers and employers — not just raising children or managing classrooms and boardrooms, but building the foundation of the future of humankind." So how do you do it? And what does it entail? And does it really work? Plus, is the saying "enjoy it, they grow up so fast" problematic? And, Claire Murphy, the host of Mamamia’s daily news podcast The Quicky joins us to talk about why all mums should be looking after themselves. Because Claire recently found out that her coccyx has been dislocated for four years, and her daughter is four years old. Ouch. Model and entrepreneur Megan Gale joins funny man Simon Kennedy to pick apart the stories and issues parents are tackling this week. They join host Shevonne Hunt to pick apart #MyMum was a great trend, but what about #MumsNow? When naming your baby after the Queen of Dragons ends up being a bad idea, sexism in the home - how do you raise your kids to be equal? And Birthday parties - simple and sweet or big and bold? Megan talks about her new baby MindfulLife and Simon Kennedy explains why his book was so popular on Mother's Day.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Megan Gale is a well-known Aussie supermodel, TV presenter, brand ambassador and business owner. After being discovered by talent scouts at 18, she moved to Sydney to pursue a professional career but struggled to make the big time. After five years of grit, determination and following her gut (she knew something big was around the corner), Megan rose to international fame when she was cast in an Italian ad campaign. Since then, Megan has spent two decades working in Australia and overseas for some of the world's biggest brands. But what she's most proud of (aside from her beautiful family, of course!) is her brand new venture as the business owner of Mindful Life - a range of natural skincare products for babies and children. The name says it all - she's built a brand that teaches us to live with presence and purpose, to reconnect with ourselves and those that matter most. In this episode, Megan shares with us what it's taken to build Mindful Life as a one-woman-show, and why it's so important to clarify your why - your reason for going into business in the first place. Enjoy!
I'm so excited to welcome one of my favourite Aussie icons to the show for this episode – positively pinching myself to have the stunning Megan Gale here today. After winning a modelling competition at 18 years old in her hometown of Perth, Megan has had a stellar career as a fashion icon and become a household name gracing the covers of many a glossy magazine both in Australia and overseas, holding the longest fashion contract in Australia with David Jones, and becoming an ambassador for L'Oréal joining the likes of Beyonce and J.Lo. But she's not just a pretty face (and smoking hot body), Megan has also enjoyed success in film and TV including Getaway, Australia's Next Top Model and Project Runway. If that weren't enough, she started her own swimwear range, Isola, in 2010 AND has also conquered motherhood with two beautiful children River and Rosie to fiancé Shaun Hampson (who is actually an old friend of mine!) For many, that would be more than enough to feel deserving of putting up the feet but Megan has added another incredible project to her repertoire. This May, she debuts Mindful Life, a conscious children's skincare collection that's been 5 years in the making. Made in Australia from ethically sourced, cruelty-free and naturally derived ingredients, the range is designed to nurture the relationship between parent and child and encourage presence in an endlessly busy world of stimulation and time paucity. I'm honoured to have her on the show to tell us a bit about the brand and the story that led her to this moment. + See show notes here + Announcements on Insta at @spoonful_of_sarah + Subscribe to not miss out on the next instalment of YAY!

We discovered the smelliest fruit in the world is the Durian Fruit - it is banned from public transport in Singapore and creates evacutations of public buildings. We got our hands on one and opened it up to see what it was like. (we may have also left one in Matt De Groot's car) Megan Gale drops by for a chat and we get the bouncer on who used to refuse entry to Fitzy at his local when he was underage. Plus, Quote McQuoteFace is back. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Jez Smith is a photographer. He as created arresting images of world-famous talent such as: Christy Turlington, Cate Blanchette, Serena Williams, Miranda Kerr, Megan Gale and Jennifer Hawkins. And he has shot for publications like: Vogue Italia, Hapers Bizarr UK, Instyle, Elle, GQ and The Australian's Wish Magazine (my personal favourite). When it comes to shooting high-end fashion photography in Australia, Jez Smith has a reputation for being one of the best in his field. Why then, after almost 20 years building that reputation did he decide to move afield and relocate back to London for fresh start? This episode explores a theme that has come up a lot with my guests of late, and that is self-preservation & self care - which is not only necessary for those looking to forge a career doing what they love. It’s as important – if not more important – for those who are already working within the field of their passions - because your livelihood depends on your ability to create. This episode is all about stepping back and taking stock - which is not a ‘one time only’ occurrence. Over the course of your creative career, you may need to do this on multiple occasions. It was interesting for me to be reminded that no matter how successful you are are you still need to be responsible for your well-being. I’m really appreciative of Jez’s openness in talking about issues that were very personal to him – this is a great conversation for anyone who is wrestling with not only the question of HOW to do what they love for a living - But WHY.
Nathan, Nat and Shaun spoke about the Royal wedding and Nathan wasn't too happy with someone's outfit.Talkin' Bout Your Generation is back tonight and the host, Shaun Micaleff joined the guys to talk more about food spreads than anything else…What did they say when you caught them? Megan Gale was cast for Wonder Woman back in the day but it never went ahead… Until it did but she wasn't the part! When should it have been you? Nelly pointed at Tanya to sing Dilemma with him on stage but the chick in front of her went up and didn't even know the words! Craig wrote a script that was going to make $9mill but the one last signature that needed to be signed didn't go ahead... Dave let a guy go in front of him who bought a $2 scratchie which he was also going to buy… Then he ran back in to say he'd won $25,000. Has someone been hiding something behind big acts of love? Islet received roses and a big teddy bear from a guy she'd been seeing and was then pregnant to, to only discover he had another woman pregnant at the same time too… Lisa's hubby bought her jewellery etc to cover up the fact he was sleeping with prostitutes. Sandra was receiving gifts from a guy she met online, finally they met up and he was actually a she… She was being catfished! Dr Jane Goodall, the expert on chimps... Adelaide's Jason Chong is doing three very different shows during the 2012 Adelaide Fringe. In the third of three interviews for LinkAdelaide, he talks about his first kid's show, and his most technically adept, Where's The Remote. We also get on to Megan Gale, and kids TV icons, but that's probably my fault.
