Sara guides us through the sometimes intimidating world of timeless reads in an accessible way. She busted some myths about classics and changed my mind about some elements of the classics. And, she has a great approach to find the perfect retelling of your favorite classics for your next read.  This post contains affiliate links through which I make a small commission when you make a purchase (at no cost to you!). CLICK HERE for the full episode Show Notes on the blog. Highlights Sara explores the definitions of a classic and a modern classic book. We talk about separating the American literature canon from the idea of a classic. Sara talks about being free to define classics on personal terms. The idea of a book being labeled a “future classic.” Now-famous books that went unnoticed initially when they were released. Sara's personal reading motivations. Common issues people have when trying to tackle classic books. Notable quirks of many classics that were first published as serials. Tips and advice for approaching older books. Addressing the pressure surrounding reading or revisiting classics. Examples of nonfiction classics. Legal considerations for all those retellings. The rise of retellings as a trend with today's audience. The difference between retellings and fan fiction. Sara's recommendations for accessible classic literature. A different approach to finding the right retelling for your reading. Please note: Sara mistakenly mentions during the discussion that The Great Gatsbydid not come into popularity until its distribution to soldiers during World War I, when this actually occurred during World War II. Abby Choi was a stunning fashion model and beauty influencer from Hong Kong, boasting nearly 100,000 Instagram followers. Looking at the perfectly curated arrangement of photos featuring the fashion trendsetter at Paris Fashion Week and on the cover of Elle magazine, you'd think her life was happy and exciting. And while it typically was both of those things, it would all come crashing down in February of 2023, when parts of Abby would be found cooking on the stove of a three-storey apartment located in Hong Kong. The vile way that Abby's body was desecrated would leave one to believe that the culprit would have to be a violent deranged serial killer - but the truth was much closer to home. Investigators would look directly at her ex-husband, Alex Kwong, her brother-in-law, Anthony Kwong, her father-in-law, Kwong Kau and her mother-in-law, Jenny Li. Today’s episode marks the first episode for Asian American History Month. Given the political climate in the US right now, and that this is the month to celebrate both Evonne and my heritage, we wanted to dedicate this entire month to celebrate inspirational Asian women’s stories. We are kicking off the first episode with none other than my (Yan’s) mom. Like many kids I grew up stuck in my own head, caring only for myself, and have never truly asked my mom to tell me her childhood stories. Sure I know of some things she has mentioned here and there, but never the story in its entirety. That’s why I am sooooo honored to finally have my mom on the podcast. It took me months to convince her, but I know it’s hard on her to dredge up all of those traumatizing memories. I am thankful to finally have heard her childhood story, and have a whole new appreciation for the truly inspiration, strong, compassionate, graceful, and generous women she is. If I can be half as strong as her, can make half of the sacrifices she has made for her family, I would be very proud of myself. Thank you mom for coming on! I love you so much! In this episode of Becoming Unsilenced I speak with Coach and EFT Practitioner Jenny Li Ciccone. In the first half of the episode, she explains what EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique sometimes called Tapping) is and how it is used to help release stored emotions in the body. Jenny teaches how to pay attention to the pain/discomfort of the body and then use tapping and speaking to release the store energy and more importantly get to the root of pain - emotional, physical and mental. 15:30 Tapping Points Explained Jenny explains where each of the 9 meridian tapping points are on the body and how to use your fingers as an “energetic hammer” to release stuck energy on these 9 points. (Video Version of these 9 points) 24:00 Example EFT Session Follow along and practice tapping as Jenny guides Vicki through an example tapping session. We start the EFT session with stiffness and soreness in the neck and then go a few layers deeper to uncover how this is stuck energy in the throat area. EFT helps an individual to quickly uncover keys to emotional distress that lay buried in the subconscious. Physical pain and tension quickly leads to the root and bring it forward to be released and cleared. About Jenny Li Ciccone: Many spiritually-oriented women professionals and entrepreneurs feel trapped in emotional and thought patterns and held back in life. Jenny helps them heal in natural ways by removing hidden blocks and clearing stuck energies in the body so that they can feel nurtured, re-energized, and free to move forward in life. An author of "Decoding the secrets of Joyful Living," Jenny is a Joyful Living & Soul Purpose coach, and a Certified EFT practitioner, an AEFTP founding member. She leads an online Soulful Women's circle and supports her clients with 1 - 1 and group Healing/Coaching sessions, both online globally and offline (when circumstances allow) in her local area. Jenny's expertise came from the combination of her 15 + years of experience in career consulting and coaching, her born talent and gift, and her unique approach with a Four-step system that she has developed in the past decade. Through her transformation experience, Jenny's mission is to serve soulful women to clear beliefs, blocks, fears, and past programming and come out from a pressured and foggy place.
