In this interview, Joely Fisher, the secretary-treasurer of SAG-AFTRA, discusses the ongoing negotiations and strike authorization vote. She emphasizes the importance of unity, transparency, and debunking misconceptions. Fisher highlights rejected points by producers and the need to address dignity, humanity, and fairness in the industry. She emphasizes regulating AI to protect consent and compensation. Fisher urges actors to stand in solidarity, participate in picket lines, and support indie films. The interview concludes with SAG/AFTRA talking points and see the show notes for all the notices sent by SAG/AFTRA regarding what is allowed and not allowed during this unprecedented time. WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR (SAG Talking Points): Compensation / Revenue Sharing Accepting the AMPT's final offer would mean that performers would be paid 5% less in real-dollar terms over the next three years than they were paid in June of 2020. As the streaming companies lowball actors and raise their subscription fees, their goal seems to be to reward shareholders at the expense of both their workers and their audiences. SAG-AFTRA has proposed a revenue-sharing model that would ensure that the casts of every film or series will share in the revenue that it generates for its streaming platforms. Health Care and Retirement Funding Employer contributions into the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan, the SAG Pension Plan and the AFTRA Retirement Fund are currently limited by episodic contribution caps that haven't changed in 40 years. SAG-AFTRA's proposal would increase these limits in line with inflation. Online Casting Platforms No one should be required to pay a fee to access work opportunities and equitable consideration. Because of this, SAG-AFTRA seeks to ensure a fair casting process. Artificial Intelligence Safeguards need to be put in place to ensure actors are always able to give consent and are compensated when their likenesses are used in the creation of new projects. In this episode we take a look at the pilot for The Golden Palace ( 1992) Less than two months after Dorothy's departure,Blanche, Rose, and Sophia sell their Miami house and purchase The Golden Palace, a hotel in the city. The women meet hotel manager Roland, his foster child Oliver, and hotel chef Chuy Castillos. The women learn that the previous owners had fired much of the staff to make the hotel appear profitable, and the hotel has no money to hire new employees. Furthermore, the ladies have only one week to make the hotel's bank note payment, which is dependent on satisfying a group of travel agents booked for the hotel. Sophia and Rose are upset at Blanche for getting them into the situation, but Blanche convinces them that they can operate the hotel and make the business a success. Chuy wants to continue serving Mexican food at the hotel, while Sophia wants to start serving Italian food instead. Chuy quits in frustration, but later asks for his job back, and he and Sophia agree to work together. The women manage to get through the week after hosting the travel agents, making enough money to keep the hotel for another month and hire more staff. Betty White as Rose Nylund, a jack-of-all-trades in the hotel. This series has Rose being of a notably stronger will than her previous incarnation (as Dorothy Zbornak noted in her guest appearance, "When did she become the strong one?"). Rue McClanahan as Blanche Devereaux, the main operator of the hotel. Her character traits, particularly her promiscuity and vanity, are significantly toned down in this series, although she retains her Southern charm and generally chipper demeanor. Estelle Getty as Sophia Petrillo, the hotel's 87-year-old co-chef. In this series, her character is beginning to show signs of senile dementia, and is somewhat kinder and gentler than in the original series. Don Cheadle as Roland Wilson, the hotel's manager and a straight man to the rest of the cast. He is one of only two staff members retained from the previous ownership. Cheech Marin as Chuy Castillos, the other co-chef, and the other staff member held on from the previous ownership. He nearly quits after quarreling with Sophia over Italian vs. Mexican food, but comes back and remains with the staff for the rest of the series run Billy L. Sullivan as Oliver Webb, Roland's foster child (episodes 1–6, 11, 14), a streetwise, arrogant preteen. Oliver appeared in eight episodes before being written out of the series, the character's birth mother (Joely Fisher) retaking custody of him in episode 14. Listen, rate and share. On Episode 11 of LegalAF (#LAF), MeidasTouch's Sunday law and politics podcast, hosts MT founder and civil rights lawyer, Ben Meiselas and national trial lawyer and strategist, Michael Popok, provide a sobering analysis of a California federal judge's decision to overturn California's 30-year old ban on assault weapons citing the overriding considerations of the Second Amendment (while comparing AR-15s to swiss army knives and Ford pickup trucks) and predict what the Supreme Court will likely do about it in a future term. Speaking of 30-year precedent going out the window, next the Legal Analysis Friends look at Coney Barrett's first majority opinion scrapping the 1986 Computer Fraud and Abuse Act criminalizing most database breaches and why the composition of which justices joined together to make up the 6-3 majority is so bizarre. And on the topic of here today, possibly gone tomorrow, the Legal AF duo discuss the likely decision this week by SCOTUS to revisit next term (and possibly overturn) the use of affirmative action in higher education to create diverse student bodies. Next up, Ben and Popok take a hard look at former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and why his recent statements made at the Q-Anon convention (?!?) calling for the violent overthrow of the US government is not only a federal crime, but should lead to his court-martial and loss of his military pension to boot. No #LAF episode would be complete without a look at Former 45's current legal troubles, this time his being sued along with Don Jr., Rudy and Rep. Mo Brooks by members of Congress, including Rep. Eric Swalwell, for violation of the KKK Act for inciting the January 6th insurrection. Ben and Michael also don't pull any punches and share their jaundiced view of Trump's efforts to argue that he enjoys “absolute immunity” from a civil suit since “it happened” while he was President. While they're at it, the #LAF hosts scratch their collective heads as to why on earth Rep. Mo Brooks would try to dodge the process server trying to serve him with the suit, as if that's a good thing to do. To round out this hard-hitting, action-packed episode, Ben and Michael discuss if Matt Gaetz will also be hit with obstruction of justice charges for interfering with the federal investigation into his having sex with minors, and whether before he assumed the post, Postmaster General DeJoy committed federal election law crimes by illegally funneling money through his then employees to political candidates. And in a special “crossover” segment, the MeidasTouch Brothers visit #LegalAF and interview Matthew Modine running for the president of the labor union representing over 160,000 actors, artists, influencers, models and other media professionals, along with his running mate Joely Fisher, running for secretary treasurer. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meidastouch/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/meidastouch/support

Joely Fisher is an actor, writer, singer, director, storyteller, author, mother, activist and charity maven! She is Hollywood royalty and has rightfully taken her own place amongst them with her incredible tour de force talent. In this episode of Ask Jillian we talk about Joely’s legendary family, show business is in her DNA and the spotlight was her destiny. The gorgeous and iconic Connie Stevens is Joely’s mother. She is an ongoing unstoppable inspiration. Connie would take Joely and her little sister Tricia on the road with her, where Joely learned the ropes early and couldn’t wait for her turn. The timeless crooner Eddie Fisher was her father. He was so proud of Joely’s Broadway debut in Grease and was her biggest fan. Her unforgettable older half-sister Carrie Fisher aka Princess Leia blazed an amazing path as an actress and writer in Hollywood. They always supported each other through thick and thin. Joely wrote an incredible book Growing up Fisher, chronicling her family history. It’s a fantastic read! Dean O'leary is an Award winning Sydney Musician , for the last 10 years he has been based in L.A. He Join John on the Phone to talk about his Music , Career , and lock-down in Los Angeles , plus we hear his latest single " Brave Souls" - check him out on all Digital Platforms Dean O'Leary is an Australian born, award winning guitarist, singer & songwriter from Sydney. Growing up in Australia with a musical family, Dean's first professional gig was at aged 15, when he began playing Guitar and touring with his late father, Jack O'Leary, who was a successful and well loved Australian singer, comedian and actor. Dean grew up on a healthy musical diet including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Prince, The Eagles and Steely Dan, amongst many other musical influences. All these wonderful artists and influences add to the ingredients which make up his own sound of what he calls 'Roots based Rock'. He's lived in Los Angeles for the last ten years and during that time he has performed with Sergio Mendes, Maxine Nightingale, Connie Stevens, Joely Fisher, Hudson Thames, Fisher & Thames, The Twilight Lords, Band of Liars and many other artists locally. Coming up on July 2020 will bring Dean's first release in the USA as a solo artist. This first single was produced and mixed by himself at his home studio, where he sang all vocals, played all Guitars, Bass and percussion. 'Brave Souls' was written during the Quarantine lockdown and during the protests for Racial change in Los Angeles. The Song is a reflection of these experiences, and a song of hope. Musically, Brave Souls is a Guitar driven song, which is very Roots based Rock with a hint of Country, and driven by a memorable uplifting chorus. The outro section really highlights Dean's tasty Guitar work. Dean was excited to have good friend and amazing drummer, Jeff Bowders onboard for Drumming duties. Jeff Bowders is a touring, recording and educating drummer in Los Angeles. Most notably recognized as playing drums for some of the greatest guitarists of our time such as Paul Gilbert, George Lynch, Joe Satriani, Larry Mitchell, Kim SeHwang, Richie Kotzen, Justin Derrico, Mike Keneally and Michelangelo. Jeff has also performed/recorded with Puddle of Mudd, Shakira, Stu Hamm, Nelson and Graham Bonnet. Jeff brings so much fire and feel to the table with his solid and incredible playing. This is the first single, which is one of many more to follow in the coming months, that Dean has planned for release in 2020. Brave Souls will be released through CD Baby and available on all streaming and download platforms. www.deanoleary.com

Making live action movie versions of classic television cartoons may be all the rage now, but in 1999, there weren't too many examples. Maybe that's why Disney's attempt at bringing INSPECTOR GADGET to life feels like a total miss. Sure, Matthew Broderick channels the bumbling detective well enough for the most part, but Dr. Claw was never this hammy and showed much much less face that Rupert Everett. And Penny was certainly never as sidelined as she is in this movie. And we may be wrong here, D-Lovers, but we're pretty certain that no episode of the cartoon involved making a sex robot clone of Joely Fisher. Vicky, Nolan and Jill do their best to separate this adaptation from the beloved original, but even then this movie leaves us with more questions than answers.

The Empire Strikes Back, a Republican Healthcare option has passed in the House and boy, did all that premature celebrations seem ill-advised. Plus, down goes Le Pen! Christa Miller, David Brenner, Joely Fisher, Donny Osmond, Wendie Malick, Vince Neil, and Janeane Garafalo guest while the question is asked, who made NOT Mike Huckabee?
