Episode 261 features Bill Mikita, Hollywood writer and film producer and Mike McCloud, creator of the World Food Championships. Bill Mikita is the writer and producer of the movie, Chasing 3000.  The movie is based on the true story of Bill and his brother's cross country trip to see Roberto Clemente get his 3,000th base hit.  The story of how this career lawyer became a Hollywood writer and film producer and was able to get Ray Liotta, among other celebrities to star in the movie is fascinating.  Some of those other celebrities include, Lauren Holly, M. Emmet Walsh, Lori Petty, Keith David, Trevor Morgan, Rory Culkin, Tania Raymonde, Seymour Cassel, and Willa Holland.  Bill gives us an inside look at the making of the film which, in its final form seemed improbable, but Bill persevered and the result is a wonderful movie.  Bill discusses his next project which is based on an amazing baseball game between two unbelievable teams and is a story you will not want to miss. Mike McCloud is focused on making Food Sport a long-term, fun-filled legacy for the culinary industry.  As the creator of the World Food Championships he appears to be on his way to doing that.  The first WFC competition was in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2012 where almost 300 culinary champions gathered to compete.  The event was filmed in 2013 for a reality show that aired 2014 on A&E's FYI Channel. WFC's 2014 competition grew 35% and culminated in the first $100,000 grand prize. In early 2016, WFC debuted its second television show on the Discovery Network and is now syndicated in 10 countries.  Fast forward to 2022 when the WFC celebrated its 10th anniversary and the brand achieved a record-setting media reach of more than 6 billion and the WFC's appeal continues to grow.   We conclude the show with the song, Baseball Always Brings You Home from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. One of the great cinematic experiences of all time, "Dumb and Dumber" comes to Born to Watch. The boys will try to hold it together as they take a road trip and discover if John Denver really is full of shit.In the vast landscape of comedy films, there are few that manage to capture the essence of absurdity, slapstick humour, and sheer stupidity as brilliantly as "Dumb and Dumber." Directed by Peter Farrelly and released in 1994, this cult classic has managed to maintain its place in the annals of cinematic history, continuing to elicit hearty laughter from audiences of all ages and backgrounds. At its core, "Dumb and Dumber" is a buddy road trip movie that follows the misadventures of two endearingly clueless protagonists, Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels), as they embark on a cross-country journey to return a briefcase to its rightful owner and, in the process, find themselves caught up in a series of hilariously ludicrous escapades. The film is a masterclass in physical comedy, absurd situations, and impeccable timing, with Carrey and Daniels delivering performances that are nothing short of comedic brilliance. One of the film's strongest assets is its unapologetically simple and straightforward premise. Lloyd and Harry's journey is propelled by their endearing stupidity and unwavering optimism, creating a unique blend of humour that effortlessly transcends the boundaries of logic. The film's charm lies in its ability to embrace the absurdity of its characters' actions and decisions, presenting them as genuinely lovable despite their lack of intelligence. This is where the film's true genius shines through – it never takes itself too seriously and encourages its audience to do the same, resulting in a lighthearted experience that leaves viewers with aching sides and smiles on their faces.Jim Carrey's performance as Lloyd Christmas is a tour de force of physical comedy and over-the-top expressions. Carrey's ability to contort his face and body to convey a range of emotions is a spectacle in itself, and it's clear that he fully embraced the role's inherent silliness. From the iconic "Most Annoying Sound in the World" scene to his unforgettable shenanigans with the "TurboLax" laxative, Carrey's comedic timing and commitment to his character make Lloyd Christmas unforgettable in cinematic history. On the other hand, Jeff Daniels' portrayal of Harry Dunne serves as the perfect foil to Carrey's exuberance. Daniels' deadpan delivery and everyman demeanour create a wonderful dynamic with Carrey, allowing their on-screen chemistry to truly shine. Daniels' ability to play the straight man amidst the chaos provides a grounding element to the film, making the ridiculousness of their adventures all the more entertaining. In addition to the performances, "Dumb and Dumber" boasts a memorable supporting cast that adds layers of humour to the story. Lauren Holly's portrayal of Mary Swanson, the woman whose lost briefcase sets the plot in motion, adds a touch of romantic interest and gives Lloyd and Harry a goal to strive towards. The antagonistic duo of Sea Bass (Cam Neely) and Joe Mentalino (Mike Starr) provides a series of uproarious confrontations, with their encounters with Lloyd and Harry becoming increasingly outlandish and side-splitting.Furthermore, the film's script, penned by the Farrelly brothers, is a masterstroke of comedic writing. The dialogue is peppered with quotable one-liners that have become ingrained in pop culture, showcasing the film's enduring influence on humour. The gags and jokes are delivered with a finesse that keeps the pacing brisk and the laughs consistent, and the screenplay's ability to take seemingly mundane situations and escalate them to absurd heights is a testament to the writers' comedic prowess. The visual gags and slapstick humour are complemented by a memorable soundtrack that perfectly captures the film's zany spirit. The use of catchy tunes and playful melodies adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the viewing experience, further cementing "Dumb and Dumber" as a feel-good, popcorn-munching favourite. As with any film, "Dumb and Dumber" is not without its critics. Some argue that the film's reliance on crude humour and physical gags may not appeal to all tastes, and its lack of depth could be seen as a drawback. However, it's important to approach the film with an understanding of its comedic intentions – "Dumb and Dumber" is not meant to be a thought-provoking exploration of the human condition; it's an unabashed celebration of stupidity and laughter. In conclusion, "Dumb and Dumber" remains a timeless comedy that continues to bring joy to audiences decades after its release. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels deliver performances that are nothing short of comedic genius, and their dynamic chemistry forms the heart of the film's enduring charm. The movie's ability to take the simplest of premises and elevate them to uproarious levels is a testament to its comedic brilliance, and its quotable dialogue and iconic scenes have left an indelible mark on popular culture. Whether you're a fan of slapstick humor or simply looking for a good laugh, "Dumb and Dumber" is a classic that promises to keep audiences entertained for generations to come. So, gather your friends, grab some popcorn, and prepare to embark on a side-splitting journey with Lloyd and Harry – just remember to leave your intellect at the door. Please follow the Podcast and join our community at https://linktr.ee/borntowatchpodcast If you are looking to start a podcast and want a host or get guests to pipe in remotely, look no further than Riverside.fmClick the link below https://riverside.fm/?utm_campaign=campaign_1&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=rewardful&via=matthew

As a Chinese-American, he wanted to spread the word to anyone eager to learn and not keep secrets. He also believed in pushing himself to the limit in everything he did, which caused friction in Hollywood and Hong Kong film communities. Born Lee Jun-fan November 27, 1940, in San Francisco and raised in Hong Kong by parents who tried to keep their smart, energetic son who would get into street fights in the 1950s. After being sent back to America to get his act together, Lee became more interested in school (mainly history and philosophy) and brought his new martial arts ideas to eager Bay Area students to Seattle. After demonstrating his new brand of Kung Fu in a 1964 championship in Long Beach, California, Hollywood came calling for Lee. His early years as a child movie actor in Hong Kong came in handy with his series The Green Hornet, playing sidekick Kato. Though it only lasted one season, it helped gain a worldwide fan base. Heading back to his childhood home, Lee produced, wrote, and acted in several films that are now considered Kung Fu classics, including The Big Boss & Fists of Fury. When he passed mysteriously on July 20, 1973, he was still producing what would become his biggest film, Enter the Dragon. Big Gulps, huh? Alright...well, why you're here, you might as well get comfy, settle down for a spell, and catch up with old friends. This edition of Overlapping Dialogue has us hitting the highway for two road classics, Stranger Than Paradise & Dumb and Dumber! But before we arrive there, we take a few detours with a Blue Plate Special discussion of the surprisingly adequate Halloween Ends, the wickedly talented (iykyk) The Devils, and the considered brilliance of Tár, Todd Field's long awaited return to filmmaking. This week's duo is just as offbeat and eclectic: listen as we discuss Jim Jarmusch's 1984 portrait of hipster malaise, the Farrelly Brother's 1994 idiotic odyssey, and the curious connections both films have in depicting the joys and pitfalls inherent to the open road. The September 1989 issue gives us much to discuss in the world of pop culture. Is "well-gutted" a valid Sassy Glossary entry when "gutted" is just fine on its own? Should men pay for dates? How much can we discuss the TV adaptation of The Outsiders that won't be out for several months? How much baseline knowledge should a Gen Xer have about the Indigo Girls? How much worse is The Batman (2022) than Batman (1989)? How many of the All My Children stars Christina hung out with on set are still working on soaps today? What does it mean to call Paula Abdul "a people artist"? And so much more! We'll be GUTTED if you don't listen!QUICK LINKS

We're back with more holiday action hijinks! This week, in honor of the recently departed Ray Liotta, we take a look at his 1997 airplane thriller Turbulence! It's Christmas Eve and the feds need to escort a number of criminals, including the Lonely Hearts Strangler, from New York to Los Angeles. When all hell breaks loose and every officer and pilot onboard have been killed, it's up to flight attendant Lauren Holly to fend off the killer and safely land the plane. Turbulence is more of a Christmas movie that we honestly expected. Join us as we examine all of its holiday trappings, as well as how it relates to It's A Wonderful Life, the other 1997 "criminals take over a plane" movie Con Air, basic cable programming of yesteryear, and more!
