The semi-final picture is nearly set at Roland-Garros, as Kim and Chris catch up on the Quarter Finals of Roland Garros 2025! Among the semifinalists, we see a mix of familiar faces and standout surprises. Top seeds like Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Jannik Sinner, and Carlos Alcaraz have delivered on expectations—but it's the emergence of local French Wild Card Lois Boisson that has captured the hearts of fans. The 21-year-old Frenchwoman, playing in her first-ever Grand Slam, continued her dream run today by upsetting teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva to book a place in the semi-finals. From unknown to unstoppable, Boisson is rewriting the script in Paris. They also discuss the lack of default for Lorenzo Musetti during his 4 set win over Frances Tiafoe after he accidentally kicked a ball thus hitting a line judge. Other players have been defaulted for less - should he have been too?Kim and Chris also discuss the ongoing debate around the lack of women's night matches scheduled at Roland Garros, with all four women's quarter finals being longer than the whitewash that was Carlos Alcaraz v Tommy Paul, lending further critique to Amelie Mauresmo's comments around the rationale for night session scheduling! They also weigh in on who they think will make the finals at Roland-Garros, looking ahead to the semi finals over the coming days.PROPERTY HUB INVESTIf you're serious about property, head to https://propertyhub.net/start to take your first step.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Another runaway victory has a 24-time Grand Slam winner well on his way to a fourth French Open crown. Correspondent Gethin Coolbaugh reports.
Cécile Lejeune is a rising star in women's pro cycling, but this Frenchwoman (and now Arizonian) is no stranger to speed. With roots in Tri and a number of impressive running records in her native country, Cécile has been challenging herself since the age of 12. A RED-S survivor, Cécile brings an inspiring and candid story to this year's Life Time Grand Prix, where she currently sits in a top-10 ranking. This is even more impressive when you consider that last year she wasn't even accepted into the race. With a love of gravel, tips on where to get married in a hurry, and an outsized helping of wisdom, this conversation with Cécile is not one to miss.

This week we're excited to present a conversation with Isabelle Huppert from the 62nd New York Film Festival with A Traveler's Needs lead actress Isabelle Huppert. A Traveler's Needs opens at Film at Lincoln Center beginning Friday, November 22nd. Get tickets at filmlinc.org/traveler Isabelle Huppert reunites with Hong Sangsoo for their third delightful outing, this time starring as a nomadic Frenchwoman named Iris who drifts into the lives of a disconnected group of people in a Seoul suburb. In need of money, she has taken up giving French lessons, although she has no teaching experience to speak of. Cutting an ethereal figure in a straw hat, flowered sundress, and green cardigan, Iris puzzles the locals with her unorthodox methods and unyielding love for a Korean rice wine. Iris's effect on those around her is at once familial, romantic, and pedagogical, leading to a succession of gently amusing moments of cultural confusion and curiosity. Hong's endearing, enigmatic observational comedy is a gentle exploration of human motivation and the surprising connections between people despite—or because of—language barriers. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2024 Berlinale. This conversation was moderated by NYFF Artistic Director Dennis Lim.

There, he unexpectedly falls in love with Alicia, a mysterious Frenchwoman, but then must leave her to race across France to safety in Casablanca. Daniel ends up in the Siberian Gulag, where he faces blizzards, starvation, and the often-lethal cruelties of guards and fellow prisoners. He too finds someone, an exiled poet named Nadhya, until he must choose: stay with her or cross all of Russia to return to the future he'd envisioned. Walk the Earth as Brothers is the story of two pawns in a titanic world war, of bravery, random chance, kindness, betrayal and love, and of what happens to the hopes and dreams of Ian and Daniel.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. fWotD Episode 2610: Arnold Bennett Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Thursday, 27 June 2024 is Arnold Bennett.Enoch Arnold Bennett (27 May 1867 – 27 March 1931) was an English author, best known as a novelist who wrote prolifically. Between the 1890s and the 1930s he completed 34 novels, seven volumes of short stories, 13 plays (some in collaboration with other writers), and a daily journal totalling more than a million words. He wrote articles and stories for more than 100 newspapers and periodicals, worked in and briefly ran the Ministry of Information in the First World War, and wrote for the cinema in the 1920s. Sales of his books were substantial, and he was the most financially successful British author of his day.Born into a modest but upwardly mobile family in Hanley, in the Staffordshire Potteries, Bennett was intended by his father, a solicitor, to follow him into the legal profession. He worked for his father before moving to another law firm in London as a clerk aged 21. He became assistant editor and then a women's magazine editor before becoming a full-time author in 1900. Always a devotee of French culture in general and French literature in particular, he moved to Paris in 1903; the relaxed milieu helped him overcome his intense shyness, particularly with women. He spent ten years in France, marrying a Frenchwoman in 1907. In 1912, he moved back to England. He and his wife separated in 1921 and he spent the last years of his life with a new partner, an English actress. He died in 1931 of typhoid fever, having unwisely drunk tap water in France. Many of Bennett's novels and short stories are set in a fictionalised version of the Staffordshire Potteries, which he called The Five Towns. He strongly believed that literature should be accessible to ordinary people and lamented literary cliques and élites. His books appealed to a wide public and sold in large numbers. For this reason and his adherence to realism, writers and supporters of the modernist school, notably Virginia Woolf, belittled him, and his fiction became neglected after his death. During his lifetime his journalistic "self-help" books sold in substantial numbers, and he was also a playwright; he did less well in the theatre than with novels but achieved two considerable successes with Milestones (1912) and The Great Adventure (1913).Studies by Margaret Drabble (1974), John Carey (1992), and others have led to a re-evaluation of Bennett's work. His finest novels, including Anna of the Five Towns (1902), The Old Wives' Tale (1908), Clayhanger (1910) and Riceyman Steps (1923), are now widely recognised as significant works. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:18 UTC on Thursday, 27 June 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Arnold Bennett on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm long-form Ruth.

This week on Talking France we explore more of the big issues in France such as... who'll actually need a special QR security code during the Paris Olympics, why male motorists in France are being urged to drive like women and why the future is uncertain for Normandy's famous D-Day beaches as the 80th anniversary of the landings approaches. And is France doomed or is it booming? With the French government bragging about record foreign investment we try and work out whether the country's economy really is in a healthy condition. And on the subject of health, why is getting blood tests in France such a confusing process? To help answer these questions will be The Local France's special intelligence unit of Emma "the editor" Pearson, Gen, the journalist Mansfield and John the politics, economy and Normandy beaches expert, Lichfield. They'll join host Ben McPartland.Further readingWho will need a QR code to get around Paris during the Olympics?EXPLAINED: How getting a blood test works in FranceWhat to expect for the 80th anniversary of D-Day in FranceOPINION: France's economy is far from doomed, but not quite booming eitherRising sea levels threaten Normandy's historic D-Day beachesCan France confiscate your foreign driving licence? A 90-year-old Frenchwoman, who was preparing to move, had an auctioneer come to set a value on her furniture for sale. Hanging in the kitchen was a tempera panel that she had owned for decades. She believed it was an old Russian icon of little value and was planning to throw it away. The auctioneer thought it might be worth something. He was right. It was a 13th century painting, Christ Mocked by Italian artist Cimabue, a forefather of the Italian Renaissance. At auction it sold for $26.8 million—the most ever paid for a medieval painting. The kitchen painting resembles the lives of many of the people we meet each day. When they look at themselves, they see an old, useless person of little value to anyone. One of our most persistent messages is that our value comes not in what we accomplish, but because of the master artist-designer behind our existence. You are God's masterpiece. He is forming you into a work of art that pleases him and accomplishes his purposes. Don't let others minimize you and don't put yourself down. You are a trophy of God's grace on a mission to do his will.

When Sarah became a mother, she decided to break the silence surrounding her family's past. Her grandfather was a Harki, an Algerian who fought alongside the French army during the Algerian War. After Algerian independence in 1962, the whole family fled to France. But instead of being welcomed with open arms, the family, like many Harkis, were placed in an internment camp in southwestern France. This is where Sarah begins her quest for the truth.

Hello to you listening in Bogor, Indonesia!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. My Camino pilgrimage journal reveals my tendency to complain about the various discomforts and challenges along the way. I grumbled about rocky paths, ill-fitting gear, and ever-changing weather leading me to consider quitting not long after I had started out. I wondered whether I had what it took to keep going, even a little bit. And then this transformative moment during a scorching trek to Zubiri when I walked with other pilgrims: a Korean opera singer who sang “O Solo Mio” a capella, filling the air with his resonant voice; a French woman who found humor in clothes I had pinned to my backpack like a mobile shopping cart; and, a local woman who pointed me toward the nearby village for the albergue with a simple “poco.”The necessity of these times is so that we can look back in wonder and fall on our knees in GRATITUDE for all the help that comes from unexpected places and people who - unbeknownst to us - are quietly conspiring on our behalf. If we do not feel grateful for what we already have what makes us think we would be happy with more? Story Prompt: Who reassured you when you felt uncertain and grumbling so that you could keep going with gratitude? Write that story! Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something. All that matters is you have a story. You're always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out What I Offer,✓ Arrange your free Story Start-up Session,✓ Opt In to my monthly NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer's Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Celine Boutier was fantastic at the Evian Championship, becoming the first Frenchwoman to win this major title on home turf. But this didn't come without some slow-play rules controversy involving Carlota Ciganda, and Angel Yin's ball being picked up by a young spectator! NCG's Matt Chivers and Matt Coles take a look back at the action from France, as well as a brutal week in Wales where Alex Cejka won the Senior Open at Royal Porthcawl. Brutal conditions led to some huge scores on Sunday, even by the leaders, as the wind and rain caused havoc on the coast. The team also discusses Lee Hodges' dominant display at the 3M Open on the PGA Tour, and what this now means for the FedEx Cup rankings. As we head into the final week of the regular season, could the likes of Justin Thomas and Shane Lowry miss out on the FedEx Cup Playoffs? The Slam is an NCG podcast in association with Callaway. How many years does it take to feel as though you really belong? For Francine, an elderly Frenchwoman living on the Scottish Isle of Donan, nothing will ever be the same again. Francine still grieves for her dead husband, Cal, but refuses to be lonely or bored. Her cat, Johnny Hallyday (named for a French pop star of the 60s), is a constant, if indolent companion, and her friend, Barb, though fussy, is always up for a swim or a walk. Secretly, though, Francine rather despises Barb's dog, Victor, who is a spoiled and disobedient terrier. On a beach walk, Victor runs away and slips down a hole in a rocky cave, leaving behind his precious collar. When Francine reaches into the hole she finds several bottles of ancient whisky, hidden there after the famous sinking of the SS Politician during World War 2. Outwardly conventional she may be, but like a true Frenchwoman, Francine's up for a little rebellion when the opportunity arises. She very properly reports the find to the local police, but keeps back a bottle with which she intends to toast the absent Cal with Barb and Johnny Hallyday beside her cosy fire. But the whisky is disgusting; Barb spits it into the fire; the fire leaps out and Johnny's tail catches light; Francine quickly douses him with a jug of water; Johnny flees through his cat door, leaving Barb horrified and Francine helpless with laughter. Galore! was conceived and produced during lockdown, and inspired by the beautiful Isle of Arran which lies off the west coast of Scotland. At the time, I could see the island from the top of the hill near my house, but for many months was not able to visit it. Author Jill Korn Director Jill Korn Sound design John Boyd Francine Jill Korn

It also broke the record for a November opening in North America, soaring past the previous high-water mark of $158 million set by 2013's “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” earning $150 million, according to Variety. Continuing the story of Wakanda, director Ryan Coogler changed the script following the death of lead actor Chadwick Boseman in 2020. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” pays tribute to the actor through his character, King T'Challa, and is an emotional ride. “Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday”... That song is the first thing I think of when talking about “Wednesday”, Netflix's latest hit TV show. While attending Nevermore Academy, Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega, attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a killing spree and solve the mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago. The show premiered on Nov. 23 and has received attention because of creator Tim Burton's clever comedy and horror sequence. It's only been a week since its release and “Wednesday” is already breaking records. Guest host Renzo Pocasangre introduces a new segment titled “Sound Waves”, a new part of Son of a a Beach which brings reviews on the newest music. Guest host Rosaura Montes discusses her featured film of the week in a segment called “Going to the Movies with Rosie”.
