Jeff previews the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks on today's show. He leads with some thoughts on the Brandon Aiyuk trade rumors and why he doesn't put much stock in them. Jeff then breaks down where he'd draft Brock Purdy and why George Kittle is a tight end he's targeting. He then moves to Seattle and gives thoughts on Ryan Grubb's offense. Jeff tells you why he thinks Jaxon Smith-Njigba should be ranked higher than Tyler Lockett and why he likely won't end up with much Kenneth Walker this year. Get Jeff's content: FTN Fantasy

Mahalia Jackson was born on October 26, 1911, in New Orleans. Jackson's mother died when she was just four and she had to leave school in the fourth grade to help out at home. She had music though and sang at church. In the late 1920s, Jackson moved to Chicago, where she sang and performed with church choirs and began recording in the 1930s. Her first big hit was "Move Up a Little Higher" in 1947, which sold a million copies and led to radio and television appearances, a tour in Europe, and a gospel music show on CBS. Jackson also lent her powerful voice to the civil rights movement. The Queen of Gospel sang at Selma, Alabama, the March on Washington, and at the funeral of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mahalia Jackson passed away in 1972 at 60 years old. In this week's episode, Tim and Jeremy welcome writer and academic Gayle Wald to the show to tell us about the life and times of Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Christened on social media ‘the queer black woman who invented rock'n'roll', yet derided in 1970 as ‘a blacked up Elvis in drag', Sister Rosetta's story disrupts the received narrative of rock history. We hear about her religious upbringing, hitting the road with her evangelist mother; playing in the Cotton Club, the Decca Records studios, and from the centre field of a football stadium (in her wedding dress!); and being feted by Johnny Cash at the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame. Sister Rosetta's story concerns misogyny, Pentecostalism, the evolution of the electric guitar, gossip, Little Richard and more, and Gayle is the perfect person to share it with us. This is an edited version of the full interview. To hear more about Sister Rosetta as well as about Gayle's book on the television programme ‘Soul!' - a groundbreaking piece of public broadcasting that brought black thinkers, activists and musicians to the TV screen - and her forthcoming work on the eminent children's musician Ella Jenkins, become a patron. Gayle Wald is a professor of English and American Studies at George Washington University and a Guggenheim Fellow. She is the author of 'Crossing the Line: Racial Passing in U.S. Literature and Culture', ‘Shout, Sister, Shout!: The Untold Story of Rock-and-Roll Trailblazer Sister Rosetta Tharpe' and ‘It's Been Beautiful: Soul! and Black Power Television'. The Department of Veterans Affairs is setting up cybersecurity check points before an application can get on the network. The idea isn't to replace the authority to operate (ATO) process, but it's about becoming a great engineering organization like those in the private sector. Kurt DelBene, the assistant secretary for the Office of Information and Technology and chief information officer at VA, said these new cyber gates is part of how VA is embracing a more well-rounded approach to their ATOs.

How well do you know God? Knowing someone is more than facts, but growing through moments with them. Through multiple moments of revelation, Abraham saw God a little higher on each step of his journey of faith. Today, God wants to let you see Him a little higher through your circumstance; He wants a mountain moment with you. Sanctuary Family Worship Center Pastor Heath Harris September 2021

Justin Baldoni, an award-winning filmmaker, entrepreneur, and philanthropist who focuses on revolutionizing the ways in which we perceive media through his newly established Wayfarer Studios. Justin's passion for impactful storytelling led him to his directorial debut with FIVE FEET APART starring Cole Sprouse & Haley Richardson. The film raised awareness and highlighted the reality of those afflicted by cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening disorder that impacts 70,000 people around the world. Late last year, Baldoni co-founded Wayfarer Studios, a studio commitment to creating purpose-driven, multi-platform, content for TV and FILM that elevates and speaks to the human spirit; featuring a robust, genre-defying slate of projects spanning film, scripted television, documentaries, digital platforms, and more. Baldoni directed and produced Wayfarer Studios' first feature film project, CLOUDS, based on the heartbreaking and ultimately uplifting book “Fly a Little Higher” by Laura Sobiech about her son Zach, a musically gifted 17-year old living with osteosarcoma. Wayfarer Studios co-financed the film that has since been acquired by Disney+—becoming Disney's first-ever narrative acquisition on its global platform—and is set to be released worldwide this fall but confidentially in October. Justin has a new book coming out called Man Enough About the BookA GRIPPING, FEARLESS EXPLORATION OF MASCULINITYThe effects of traditionally defined masculinity have become one of the most prevalent social issues of our time. In this engaging and provocative new book, beloved actor, director, and social activist Justin Baldoni reflects on his own struggles with masculinity. With insight and honesty, he explores a range of difficult, sometimes uncomfortable topics including strength and vulnerability, relationships and marriage, body image, sex and sexuality, racial justice, gender equality, and fatherhood. Writing from experience, Justin invites us to move beyond the scripts we've learned since childhood and the roles we are expected to play. He challenges men to be brave enough to be vulnerable, to be strong enough to be sensitive, to be confident enough to listen. Encouraging men to dig deep within themselves, Justin helps us reimagine what it means to be man enough and in the process what it means to be human.Buy the book here: https://www.harpercollins.com.au/9780063055612/man-enough/Connect with Justin on Social Media: Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/justinbaldoni/Twitter - https://twitter.com/justinbaldoniFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/justinbaldoniFollow The Story Box on Social MediaINSTAGRAM ► - https://www.instagram.com/thestoryboxpodcast/ TWITTER ► - https://twitter.com/jay_fantom FACEBOOK ► - https://www.facebook.com/thestoryboxpodcast WEBSITE ► - https://thestoryboxpodcast.com/SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE! Mahalia Jackson, born Mahala Jackson, was an American gospel singer, widely considered one of the most influential vocalists of the 20th century. As a child, Mahalia found a home in her church, where Mahalia delivered God's word through song. She moved to Chicago as an adolescent and joined the Johnson Singers, one of the earliest gospel groups. Jackson was heavily influenced by blues singer Bessie Smith. Nationwide recognition came for Jackson in 1947 with the release of "Move On Up a Little Higher," selling two million copies and hitting the number two spot on Billboard charts. Best known as the lead vocalist of the Staple Singers, a family soul-gospel ensemble that flourished from the 1950s through the 1970s and beyond, Mavis Staples has also released a series of albums as a solo artist. Her voice, not a gospel power-house, was instantly compelling with its deep-like-a-river quality of moral conviction. Over her long career, Staples won other musicians, including Bob Dylan and Prince as admirers, and her solo work, which had never quite found its course among the shifting winds of musical fashion, won new recognition with the release of her 2004 album, Have a Little Faith. In 2005 Staples was set to accept a Grammy award for lifetime achievement on behalf of the Staple Singers, of whom she was the last surviving original member. Mavis Staples was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 10, 1939 (or, according to some sources, 1940). Her father, Roebuck "Pops" Staples, had grown up on Mississippi's Dockery Plantation, a key site in the development of the blues, and had learned to play the guitar from the great early bluesman Charley Patton. After he moved north to Chicago in 1936 he began to organize gospel quartets after finishing work at a meatpacking plant, and it was gospel that Mavis Staples heard at home. "He used to play records by the Dixie Hummingbirds, the Soul Sisters, the Blind Boys of Mississippi as well as the Blind Boys of Alabama, but after I heard [gospel great] Mahalia [Jackson] sing 'Move On Up a Little Higher,' I had to play her music every day," Staples told Greg Quill of the Toronto Star. www.mavisstaples.com www.joekelleyradio.com

‘It’s about getting young people ready for the real world’ Lee is in conversation with Kamal Ellis-Hyman founder of ‘Aim a Little Higher’ Kamal has a passion for helping young people get ready for the real world and works with them to build their aspirations based on their potential, not their circumstance. They discuss the journey Kamal has taken and the very different aspirations of young people and the ways they interact with the world. Kamal is working towards a world where the ‘playing field is even for young people’ listen in and find out how he is achieving this through his passion. KEY TAKEAWAYS I write about life and whatever is on my mind. My spoken word poetry is about empowering people. I’ve always been surrounded by the idea that if you want to do something then you should just go for it. It’s about getting young people ready for the real world, with their aspirations based on potential rather than circumstance. I help young people figure out who they are, what they want and how to get out there and get it. When talk to young people about my failures they engage with me and I can talk about my successes and what I want for them We want people to; Know yourself Know your vision Don’t chase your dreams, build them for yourself. Knowing yourself as a teenager is about knowing what you like. Start now and take small steps every day. In pursuit of our dreams, we forget to recognise and celebrate our achievements on the journey. Growing a business is about being resilient and it’s a beautiful journey when you don’t let it affect your heart. I’ve found my thing I’m a good communicator and I like working with an audience, performing – it’s me. BEST MOMENTS ‘A world with an even playing field for young people where they understand there is stuff they are good at and stuff they suck at’ ‘A world where everyone feels comfortable doing what they want to do because they want to do it’ ‘I talk to them like a big brother’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Business Problems Solved Podcast Aim a Little Higher website Kamal Ellis- Hyman LinkedIn ABOUT THE HOST For the last 15 years, I have been a multi-sector internal or external business improvement consultant, building the improved capability of individuals, teams and businesses. In this episode, we talk to Kamal Ellis-Hyman of 'Aim a Little Higher' about how he works with students in schools to inspire them to up their game. We talk about how aspirations come from first knowing yourself, and then loving who you are. Kamal has some absolutely invaluable insight into how teens can first figure out what they enjoy doing, so that they can use that to think bigger about their future. There's also practical advice for parents about the ways they can approach these subjects with their teens.

When her son got back from a leisurely jog, he complained of a dull pain in his hip. Within months, the 14 year-old, basketball-playing, fun-loving boy, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma - bone cancer. And, while the doctor's reported that it has a 70% survival rate, the concerned mom heard that there was a 30% chance of her losing her son. Laura Sobiech, Zach's mom and author to the incredible book Fly a Little Higher, joins us on the show and shares Zach's message of hope and encouragement - It's all about relationships and touching lives. The beginning of his fight Once he was diagnosed, Zach said - I think it’s part of something big. Physically weak but spiritually and emotionally strong Originally with a dime-store guitar, when he became to weak to play basketball and do teenage boy stuff, as his mother says, he found "shelter" in his music. One day, as Laura was cleaning his room, she found the lyrics to a song that would quickly go on to become somewhat of an anthem. (The original, very homemade recording for his song was done on his cell phone.) Wonderful lessons we can learn from Zach Don’t let a future that doesn't exist yet, squash the present moment. use your talents well, whatever it may be, to make the world a better place Use simple means to make other's life better, like putting smile on their face. The Legacy Zach not only knew that he was going to die, he knew when he was going to die. And, after a courageous fight, is 2013, he passed; but not without leaving us with his beautiful messages and a song - Clouds. The You Tube video has been viewed more than 10 million times.
