In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to throw up our horns and shout at the devil as we review the Peacock original “Hysteria!” along with series creator and special guest Matthew Scott Kane.We talk about the inspiration for the series, casting horror legends like Bruce Campbell and Barbara Crampton and what we might expect in a potential season 2 plus much more. “We wanted the whole series, but specifically the pilot episode, to lure you in with the kind of comfort and coziness of the 80s nostalgia and the trappings of John Hughes movies, and all of that, while also giving it the 80s heavy metal flavor, and then start to build paranoia and change the vibe a little bit throughout. But we always knew that the series was going to hinge on this scene with Judith [Jessica Treska] where you realize that the beautiful girl next door is actually so much trouble!” says Matthew Scott Kane, creator and showrunner of Peacock's Hysteria! Starring Julie Bowen, Anna Camp and Bruce Campbell. The show explores the so-called Satanic Panic that actually happened in the 1980s at a fictionalized high school in the midwest. When a varsity football player disappears under mysterious circumstances, a struggling teen heavy metal band realize they can capitalize on the town's sudden interest in the occult by creating a fake Satanic cult – to their surprise, everyone is into it. Things quickly get out of control when the town takes the cult more seriously than the high school band members. In this episode of the Write On podcast, Kane talks about delving into the generational fear of teenagers, balancing horror with humor, and writing characters who need “to be seen” by their peers. He also shares details about his journey to becoming a professional TV writer, specifically the many benefits of being an assistant in Hollywood. “The biggest gift of being an assistant – which is not an easy job, it's very difficult, it's very time consuming, you have to be available 24/ 7 and it takes a lot out of you – but the best possible thing that you can get, and not all showrunners will do this, is to make yourself available to watch every step of the creative process. Make sure you are in the room while they are breaking story. Make sure you are reading outlines that are coming in. Make sure you're in concept meetings, tone meetings, production meetings, all of these things that might feel like they don't have anything to do with writing, but they have everything to do with writing,” says Kane. Podcast: The PrOTect OT Cybersecurity Podcast (LS 29 · TOP 10% what is this?)Episode: Matthew Scott: Protecting Legacy OT in Mass TransitPub date: 2023-09-07About Matthew Scott: Matthew Scott is a technical leader with over three decades of experience in industrial automation, specializing in the design, deployment, and maintenance of cutting-edge SCADA systems across critical infrastructure sectors such as transit, oil & gas, energy, and water/wastewater. His expertise spans a wide range of hardware and software platforms. A trailblazer in cybersecurity, Matthew's contributions extend beyond his role as an OT security professional, as he has authored peer-reviewed publications and presented at technical conferences. With a commitment to fostering innovation and promoting a "Fail Fast, Fail Forward" ethos, he leads cross-functional teams in the development of secure and resilient industrial control solutions that ensure the reliable delivery of essential services. In this episode, Aaron and Matthew Scott discuss:Implementing security by design in legacy industrial control systemsEnhancing OT cybersecurity through code quality and dynamic rule setsA step-by-step approach to improve cybersecurity and system resilienceBalancing regulations and technological advancements in OT cybersecurityKey Takeaways:The crucial strategy for securing OT involves a holistic approach, combining identification of exploits, rule creation, and integrated defensive programming within system design to counter malicious actions and ensure process reliability and security, moving beyond mere patching or hardware replacements. In the rapidly evolving landscape of OT cybersecurity, the fundamental importance of well-disciplined code and comprehensive input validation is resurfacing as a potent strategy, enabling organizations to proactively mitigate a substantial portion of vulnerabilities and exploits, with the potential for machine learning to dynamically adapt and reinforce security measures over time.Recent progress in system security has shifted from insecure designs to security-focused thinking, bolstering code against vulnerabilities in complex environments, yet the challenge remains in safeguarding legacy systems and maintaining uniform standards.Amidst the focus on looming threats, the key lies in addressing foundational cybersecurity concerns, highlighted by upcoming regulations for industrial control systems, while cautioning against prioritizing advanced tech over resolving core technical issues. "I don't necessarily see that AI is gonna make malicious actors more prevalent and more powerful. But I think we're gonna see the emphasis move to that. I'm delighted to speak with Dr Matthew Scott, Prof Paul Holmes and Dr David Wright in this episode. Matt is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of British Columbia in the School of Kinesiology. Matt investigates the effect of dyad practice - training with a partner - on motor learning. His interests are in combined (and independent) action observation and motor imagery, motor learning and motor control. Paul is Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor in the Faculty of Health and Education at Manchester Metropolitan University and a Research Professor of Motor Cognition. Paul's research interests include motor cognition in human performance and movement rehabilitation where he has published widely on both subjects focusing on motor imagery and action observation mechanisms. Paul has worked as a sport psychologist in high performance sport for over 25 years. David is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at Manchester Metropolitan University. His area of interest is in neurophysiological processes involved in various aspects of sport psychology. David's research focuses on motor imagery using brain stimulation techniques. Matt, Paul, David and I discuss a fascinating paper they have published alongside Dr Dave Smith and led by Matt which reviews PETTLEP imagery. The PETTLEP model was first published by Paul and Professor Dave Collins 20 years ago as a framework to improve the delivery and outcome of motor imagery (MI) interventions. Drawing on research from neuroscience, cognitive-behavioural psychology, and sport psychology the model served as a set of guidelines for sport psychologists to consider when developing MI interventions and tailoring them to individual athlete needs. PETTLEP is an acronym for seven practical elements that sport psychologists could consider when developing MI interventions with athletes (Physical, Environment, Task, Timing, Learning, Emotion, and Perspective). In the 20 years since its publication, the PETTLEP model has become one of the most dominant models for structuring MI interventions in sport. Please see a link to the paper here https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2667239122000260?via%3Dihub

In the final chapter of his letter to the Ephesians, the Apostle Paul explores the well-known imagery of the "Armor of God." It is vivid, memorable, and powerful, but its relevance and application go much deeper and speak to our current world that is filled with warfare. 2022 DCC Psychology graduate and army veteran, Matthew Scott, explores each piece of the armor and reminds us that the only way the armor of God is effective is when it is put on. The first step to putting it on, though, is "to stand."
