— The Chinese pattern theory says we must keep the body's subtle channels clear in order for qi— vital energy—to flow freely and unencumbered. We must take care to nourish the energy, cultivate it by not going over or under. This means not overdoing things: stressing, worrying, spending, eating, or exercising. It also means not underdoing things either: not giving enough attention to sleep, rest, play, meditation, or connecting with the people we love. The middle path, which is the Tao, keeps us balanced—not too tight, not too loose. Valeria Teles interviews Dr. Denise Wiesner — the author of “Conceiving with Love: A Whole-Body Approach to Creating Intimacy, Reigniting Passion, and Increasing Fertility.” Dr. Denise Wiesner DACM, L. Ac., founder of the Natural Healing and Acupuncture Clinic in West Los Angeles, is an internationally recognized traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, specializing in the Whole Systems Chinese medicine approach to women's health, sexuality, and fertility. Since 1994, Denise has treated and helped women manage challenges from menstrual disorders through menopause, and from infertility to pregnancy. Using a combination of acupuncture, diet and lifestyle counseling, nutritional supplements, and Chinese herbs, Denise has helped thousands of couples navigate the tricky, and often stressful, journey toward fertility, without losing their loving connection. She has a Bachelor's of Science in Exercise Kinesiology (UCLA), a Master of Arts in traditional Chinese medicine (Emperor's College), a Doctorate from Pacific College of Health and Science. She is also a certified sex coach and board-certified by the State of California and the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM). Denise teaches professional seminars to medical doctors, OB/GYNs, and nurse midwives on the application of Chinese medicine in obstetrics and gynecology and has published articles on acupuncture and infertility. In addition to a thriving private practice, Denise lectures at conferences, works closely with reproductive endocrinologists.  In her spare time, she relishes practicing yoga, dancing, and playing guitar.  She loves to travel and hang out with her two sons, Noah and Ethan and Peetie her cockatoo.  To learn more about Dr. Denise Wiesner and her work, please visit: denisewiesner.com and naturalhealingacupuncture.com       — This podcast is a quest for well-being, a quest for a meaningful life through the exploration of fundamental truths, enlightening ideas, insights on physical, mental, and spiritual health. The inspiration is Love. The aspiration is to awaken new ways of thinking that can lead us to a new way of being, being well.

Denise Wiesner, fertility and intimacy expert, gets real with us about how struggles with fertility can cause shame and dissolve intimacy. Sex can become associated with failure or loss after infertility. Making a baby can take center stage and we can lose the intimacy behind it all. She shares with us what to do when you feel like your body isn't yours anymore. Let's be honest, we all want to learn more about how to keep things alive in the bedroom with your partner. Especially after we start having children. I am usually a bit shy about this topic - but I felt so comfortable with Denise and was fascinated with the information she shared! Interview with Katherine Alexander Anderson Katherine (MBA, DACM, LAc, FABORM) entered into the study and practice of TCM for infertility through her own personal experience with reproductive challenges. She has an extensive background in the medical field and has operated reproductive health clinics in both New Hampshire and Maine for the last decade. In this interview she highlights her clinical knowledge of treating couples with unexplained infertility with 'Whole Systems Traditional Chinese Medicine'. As the president of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM) she is a strong advocate for patients utilizing properly certified TCM reproductive health specialists when choosing this avenue of care.   ~ Spence Email katherine@rhythmsforwomen.com Websites http://www.rhythmsforwomen.com http://www.thefertiletruth.com Professional Profile Bachelor of Science, Health Management & Policy, University of New Hampshire Master of Business Administration, University of New Hampshire Masters of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, New England School of Acupuncture Doctorate of Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine, Pacific College of Oriental Medicine PhD Candidate, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine Licensed to practice Chinese medicine in Maine and New Hampshire Professional Achievements Founded almost 10 years ago, and still operating today, a very busy fertility and women's health TCM clinic. I founded this at a time when many said you couldn't just specialize in fertility and women's health and you had to treat everything to survive. I said "if you don't specialize, you won't specialize:". If I you want to know a lot about something then you have to put your heart and soul into learning everything you can. So I did.  Taking over ABORM after the death of the founder was a huge challenge. I was honored that Ray knew I could do it based on my business degree/experience and success running my own clinic, but to do and do it well during a time of grieving by a membership that respected him was uniquely challenging . There were a lot of sleepless nights and stressful days feeling the pressure to ensure the organization survived. My leadership skills just instinctively took over and I developed a foundational structure for the organization that hadn't existed before so that it could withstand the current team and time.  I am honored that at this point in my career I have been asked to share some of my knowledge and wisdom with others. I have been asked to speak again at TCM Kongress for the 3rd time next year, recently spoke at the Evidence Based Acupuncture Symposium to help spread awareness of the research surrounding our profession and just completed writing an article in the Journal of Chinese Medicine on Unexplained Infertility that was a rewarding experience. I am passionate about our medicine and its ability to help fertility patients and love being a conduit, spreading the word in any way possible whether speaking to groups of patients or practitioners.
