Tim Chapman, restorative justice practitioner, trainer and former chairperson and board member of the European Forum for Restorative Justice, comes to talk with Stephanie on this episode of Nonviolence Radio. Together, they explore the practice of and principles behind restorative justice, the ways in which it is able to offer a kind of lasting resolution to all parties involved in a conflict – including the larger community in which it happened. Restorative justice is a way to ‘to move out of that sense of antagonism', often cultivated in traditional legal systems, and instead into a place where everyone listens, everyone is acknowledged and everyone tries hard to understand the stories of others. "I think in listening to somebody who you believe was your enemy and listening to his story, not necessarily saying it's all true, I don't agree with everything, but really trying to understand how they've come to that position that made them – is the beginning of a transformation away from that sort of simple label of ‘you are my enemy', towards you are a human being."It is only with a renewed sense that we are all human – albeit, with very different backgrounds and experiences – that we can act decently, hold ourselves and others accountable and truly forgive.

Chips! The episode title says it all! Truly, how many of us "younger" chips know the history of this team? Maybe some of us know by causal conversation among chips, stories posted in newspapers or online, CMU parents who attended during that time retelling stories, or anywhere in between. My run with this story started with a posting in the CMU group by Justin Newsome, son of 1974 CMU player, Rick Newsome. It seems that Rick, while serving as a police officer, lost his 1974 National Championship ring during a hot pursuit . Years later, by a miracle, Rick was able to find his lost ring in the Detroit river, right where the suspect pursuit ended. Justin posted a newspaper clip in the CMU group and I was curious to know more. This episode is an inside look to the details of finding that ring and how CMU became to be a dominate force in 1974. Chips! In this episode, I have on sportswriter and now author to his first book on the 1995 Northwestern football team, Tim Chapman. An important part to this book is having Tim's brother Chris helping with the process. We get to chat up CMU days, how this book came about, and this heart driven story of college athletes coming together to beat the odds. If I was at a sports bar, these are two brothers I would want to cheer on CMU with while dive deep into weeds of college football history. Plus, I feel like fireballs would be order as well!As the cliche goes, "never judge a book by its cover" easily applies to this book. Once getting past the first few chapters, it was hard in putting it down. I love reading it and being enthrawed by the detailed accounts Tim was able to draw from players and coaches. I felt there were a lot parallel between the Northwestern team to CMU when we shifted in the 2000s in being a powerhouse football team.Tim's book can be found on amazon either print or kindle format.https://www.amazon.com/Champion-Underdog-Improbable-Northwestern-Football/dp/B08R6TMVX6or you can email Tim directly if you like to get a personalize inscription and autographnufbhistorian@gmail.comFollow Tim on twitter @champion_LitMy continue thanks and gratitude to two CMU musicians that definitely add character to this podcast.Theme Song written and performed by Dan Louisellhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWzUd3J3_tT7ETw-fUP80fASong, "Young and Dumb" is by JD Dominowskihttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPhDTwj8J-DvopCyBtv7czwFIRE UP CHIPS!Michael

What You Need to Know is the Trump economy is launching again! The American economy and the world economy is impacted first and foremost by how you and I and everyone participating “feels” is happening. Remember the Eagle Index: the stock market, small business confidence, unemployment numbers, and consumer confidence can give you a picture of where the economy is headed. All these numbers were breaking records before the “great pause” because of the Chinese virus. The problem with this great pause we’ve been in is big business has gone up, but small businesses have been hurt. We’re going to have to do our part during the “great reentry” to get those small businesses going again! Trent England, Director of Save Our States, tells us about his book Why We Must Defend the Electoral College! Also, what is the general election scenario that Democrats are dreading? Tim Chapman, director of Stand for America, talks about how Congress Must Stand Up to China! Check out the petition to ask Congress to stop the Chinese Communist government’s deception and manipulation of the U.S. Wrap up: Biden’s online campaign is still loading.
