Rebecca Kase grew up in Missouri and attended the University of Missouri (Mizzou or MU). She declared psychology as her major early in her freshman year of college, right after her first psychology 101 class. She recalls, “I love this. I get it. This makes sense to me. Something just really clicked inside, and I really felt like this is my path.” She also loved taking neuroscience classes and ultimately graduated in about 3 ½ years with a number of graduate level courses in her pocket. Rebecca then took a year to do volunteer work with AmeriCorps helping tutor inner-city elementary school kids in St. Louis, MO and she loved the experience. She used this experience and time to help figure out the next step in her academic journey. She knew she needed to go to graduate school because she thought she couldn't really do anything with her bachelor's in psychology, so she considered getting her master's in counseling, social work, or psychology. In this podcast, Rebecca shares her journey and advice for those faced with a similar decision and discusses how she turned her passion into a successful, and prominent, training and consulting company, Kase & CO, which specializes in comprehensive Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and trauma training for psychotherapists. Throughout this podcast, Rebecca shares her experience and offers practical advice for those considering a career in psychology, social work, or counseling. She chose to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); however, her advice can be applied to those in the counseling or psychology fields as well. How do you decide on which path to take or in which university or program to enroll? Rebecca says, “consider your end goal.” She suggests asking yourself “Where do I want to end up and based on what I want for my career, which program seems to fit best?” She also reminds us that “where we think we're going to end up, isn't necessarily where we end up.” For example, she admits that she never thought she would own one of the largest EMDR training programs in the country and that she would love running a business but that is exactly what she is doing with Kase & CO Training and Consulting. Rebecca started EMDR training while she was still in graduate school, so she has been practicing EMDR since 2006. She started her LLC in 2009 and as her LLC grew, she became a trainer and consultant. In 2017, Rebecca started diving into Polyvagal theory as it “really resonated” and helped “explain why our nervous system does what it does.” After looking into Polyvagal theory, she realized that she could combine EMDR and Polyvagal theory to help supercharge therapy and the recovery process, so she started incorporating the two into her training and consulting at Kase & CO and has seen its incredible impact on her clients and their clients. Rebecca is also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) and has been practicing yoga since she was 15 years old. She shares “it has been my saving grace and saved my life multiple times emotionally and physically.” She has integrated yoga into her EMDR training as she points out “research shows that yoga therapy is incredibly useful and powerful to bring into your sessions with clients no matter their presentation or diagnosis.” One of the 8 phases of EMDR focuses on preparation and where you learn about regulation skills and where you build somatic awareness. She says that yoga helps clients who have learned to “check out” from their feelings and sensations and who don't know how to feel their body. Rebecca is the author of Polyvagal-Informed EMDR: A Neuro-Informed Approach to Healing (W.W. Norton & Company, May 23, 2023). She said the book started as her pandemic project. She began pulling her thoughts and experiences together and organized them in such a way that one of her friends said “Rebecca, you have a book here.” She explains that both Polyvagal Theory and EMDR offer powerful pathways to healing.

Link up with Kerry here: https://www.youtube.com/kerrysteuart https://www.warriorsascent.org https://midtownyogakc.org I joined the Air Force in 1991 and planned on retiring after twenty years but unfortunately I was medically discharged in 1999. I was suffering from migraines, pain in my legs and a few other issues but those two prohibited me from serving our Country. I eventually began to have battles with PTS that affected my home and work life. Although I might appear happy and healthy on the outside, on the inside I was truly struggling. I was struggling to find a purpose, an opportunity to serve. I was angry and bitter because I spent the next twenty years trying to find out what was the cause of my health symptoms and the VA Hospital was not very helpful. All this frustration and anger was taken out on my family, friends and colleagues. My eldest daughter had been suggesting yoga because she thought it would help my symptoms. I started my yoga journey with a practice of mindfulness and meditation and what I discovered was that for the first time in a long time I felt calm and relaxed. I would pause any time during the day when a trigger or any type of anxiety occurred and perform a meditation practice. I had this practice for four months before I even stepped into a yoga studio. The true foundation of yoga is our breath and I have realized through this journey, that yoga is not just the hour on the mat, but the twenty-three hours off the mat. The mat sets the foundation for the rest of the day. Yoga does two things for us each and every day. First, it allows us to realize the things in our life that we are doing well and secondly, those things in our life that need work. Yoga is truly for everyone and it transforms our life from the inside out. I am a Gulf War Veteran who spent eight years in the Air Force. I have a BS in Business Management, a 500hr Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance and have been retired since 2014. Suffering from chronic pain and PTSD since my time in the military, I understand first-hand the numerous benefits of yoga and meditation for pain reduction and mental clarity. I provide a variety of classes that serve those looking for a physical challenge as well as a complete mindfulness/meditation practice. I realize that people come to the mat at all different levels with different intentions and I welcome everyone to come and make the class their unique yoga experience. Moderation and balance are truly two of the greatest aspects of being mindful. Providing a variety of yoga including talks to the community through different facets allows me to connect with the community. I have to make sure to not overextend myself mentally, physically or spiritually, otherwise I will not be able to provide the type of positive energy to my family or the community.

Go up to anyone and the one thing you can count on is that they'll offer up advice if asked. Everyone has their thoughts on what to do to make “this” better or to achieve “that”. Much of the time this advice is valid and made with the best intentions. But it doesn't always work. My guest on this episode turns advice on its head when she advocates the idea of doing nothing. While at first glance this may sound ridiculous or even a waste of time, it makes a lot of sense when you see it the way that psychotherapist and transformational coach Jeanine Thompson sees and practices it. As she tells us:•This is what doing nothing really means•The things that are learned from this practice•How to make your thoughts go away•What she means by ‘911 for the soul'•How she learned to connect with her soul and how you can too If life is moving too fast for you and you feel the need to slow down, you'll want to hear what Jeanine Thompson has to say on this introspective episode of Dream Power Radio. Elyssa Toomey, RDN, CEDS-S, RYT So many people (physical therapists, yoga instructors, personal trainers) can be brought into the web of people that are trying to help clients be connected and create a peaceful relationship with food and their body How do we hold space for our clients as dietitians, especially virtually? What are the non-negotiable things I need as a clinician as a human, so that I can show up for my clients as my best self? We need self-care and support to do this work well. Our patients need to give us permission to help them do the work of recovery, in order to give them autonomy and empower them to feel that they can succeed. How do we learn how to incorporate breathwork into our client sessions? Balance curiosity and compassion in your work with clients Lived experience versus lived expertise Help clients consider: how will these foods nourish them physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually? Dr. Jena Vasquez, LCSW-S, NARM Therapist, SEP, Yoga Therapist and Instructor, professor and researcher recently completed her doctoral dissertation, Meaning Making: Understanding Professional Quality of Life for NARM Trained Trauma Therapists, one of the first research studies on how professional training in trauma impacts quality of life for trauma therapists. Dr. Vasquez specifically chose NARM to research, and throughout their conversation, she shares the findings of her research, including powerful quotes from those she studied. Dr. Vasquez has worked in the field of trauma for many years and observed that so many of her colleagues and supervisees were getting burned out. She reflected on what resources were available and realized that those that went for further training in trauma seemed to fare better. In her search to better support fellow therapists and supervisees she began to hypothesize that there's something in the NARM Training that can be beneficial for trauma therapists. Dr. Vasquez shares a few powerful quotes from research subjects (i.e., NARM Therapists), including: “I feel more joy in my work, and in my life personally.” “Working with trauma is a difficult choice, and using NARM has allowed me to really stay in it without being in it in a way that's impacting myself and my ability to be there and be present.” “Not only is the modality effective, but it also supports me in being able to do the work and sustain it.” Dr. Vasquez also shares about her own journey through the NARM Therapist Training, the impact this work and community had on her, and how she now integrates NARM into her teaching, supervision and clinical work. We invite you to listen to the full episode to hear their full conversation and to learn more about Dr. Vasquez' research and work with NARM. About Dr. Vasquez: Jennifer is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker- Supervisor (LCSW-S), Neuro-Affective Relational Model (NARM) Therapist, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), International Association of Yoga Therapy (IAYT-C) Certified Yoga Therapist, and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-500) with a specialization in developmental trauma. This episode is different than any other episode I've recorded thus far. I speak with Beth Segaloff who is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, EMDR Therapist, Reiki Master, Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200), and Breathwork Facilitator. She has created a program called “Life School 101” where she helps teens and young adults learn how to respond to all of life's experiences. Beth really believes in a whole health approach that integrates the mind, body, and one's emotions. This was one of the most eye-opening conversations I have had on my show. It is a reminder that everyone hits speed bumps in their life and that you aren't alone. I really hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording it. If you would like to sign up for Beth's program and look into it here is the link! https://www.bethsegaloff.com/life-school-101-for-teens
Have you ever been mad at someone who hadn't done anything to you? Or perhaps felt that someone was upset at you for no reason? Everyone handles negative emotions differently — some people respond with forgiveness and mindfulness. However, sometimes we hold those negative emotions inside us. If we don't understand emotions, we pass them onto others and get angry at people who don't deserve it. This phenomenon is called transference. In this episode, Nicky Sciortino discusses transference and its significance in our lives. She also encourages us to examine our emotions and acknowledge if we have committed transference before. Accepting ourselves is only half of the battle. Nicky guides us into finding solutions to avoid redirecting our negative emotions and feelings to others. If you want to understand emotions, and reconnect with your authentic self, stay tuned to this episode! Understand Emotions and the Consequences of Transference with long time listener Nicky Sciortino Have you ever been mad at someone who hadn't done anything to you? Or perhaps felt that someone was upset at you for no reason? Everyone handles negative emotions differently — some people respond with forgiveness and mindfulness. However, sometimes we hold those negative emotions inside us. If we don't , we pass them onto others and get angry at people who don't deserve it. She loved listening to the podcast, especially during the pandemic, where she couldn't talk to her friends as much. Listening to the show was like getting to have girl talk with her friends. About Transference Transference refers to redirecting the feelings you have from one person to another individual. You know you're on the receiving end because you can't find a reasonable explanation for the other person's behavior. Nicky experienced transference when she joined a yoga class led by an upset instructor. Tune in to the full episode to hear the story! Nicky went back to what she learned from Don Miguel Ruiz's The Four Agreements. One of these lessons is don't take anything personally. Projecting is different from transference. It refers to attributing your negative emotions and qualities to another person. Nicky's Experience of Committing Transference Nicky had a student who kept getting under her skin. She can't figure out why. After Nicky's yoga class, a student roughly 30 years her senior would frequently ask her basic questions about the class, or for personal advice. Instead of reacting negatively, Nicky took the time to examine herself and understand emotions. When you lash out at someone, you're expressing your pent-up negative emotions. It's your responsibility to understand why you react the way you do. Not Everyone Can Be a Teacher People practice yoga to feel nourished, filled, and connected to their bodies and community. It's not a space to be criticized or dismissed. Yoga teachers wield a lot of power and influence. Therefore, they carry a lot of responsibility. We should focus on quality instead of the number of yoga instructors. Yoga teachers must actively pursue their yogic path to teach a more profound type of practice. Understand Emotions, Be Aware of Transference The topic of transference reminded Tessa of Ram Dass's quote: "I would like my life to be a statement of love and compassion—and where it isn't, that's where my work lies.” Examining ourselves if we committed transference is difficult and scary because it makes us vulnerable. Yoga teachers should be aware when they redirect negative emotions to others. Many tools can help you avoid transference. Peel back the layers of the onion, understand emotions, and scrub yourself! When you're a recipient of transference, remember that it's the other person's issue and not yours. Continue Reflecting on Ourselves It's crucial to continue examining ourselves and help others do the same. Take accountability and invite in that compassion and self-study all at once. There may not be a pot at the end of the rainbow, but it's beautiful to see ourselves evolve through time. Working on ourselves allows us to live an authentic life. In unraveling our embedded thoughts and beliefs, we become fully present. 5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode [13:35] “...we're all works in progress. Katie is a KCMO area yoga instructor with a passion for astrology, philosophy, and all things meta-physical. She learned to love her body again through yoga after a challenging two year stint in the world of competitive fitness. Her passion for yoga led her to self-study on a three week solo-adventure to Bali and eventually to Asheville, North Carolina where she received her 200 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher certification in 2017 at the Asheville Yoga Center. With a background in body-building and physical fitness she understands both the anatomy of the body and the societal pressures put on it. She teaches both vinyasa style yoga, infusing the energetics of astrology into each class, as well as the more passive “yin yoga” in which she received additional certification in 2019. She teaches a style of yoga that focuses on cultivating a loving and compassionate conversation with the body. The goal in every class, whether active or passive, is to become present with the breath. She believes that it is with the breath that we connect through the body and to the spirit. You can find Katie teaching mostly online these days with offerings such as yin yoga, astrology-themed flows and seasonal yoga malas through True Love Yoga and Hagoyah. You can find her in person one day a week, socially distanced and masked on the mat on Saturday mornings at Hagoyah! She also offers a once monthly “Restore and Release,” a monthly self-care reset, via her own platform! To learn more about Katie and her offerings you can connect with her on social media @kbkcyoga or through her website kbkc.yoga So you know she's legit: Katie Brown is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with a Registered Yoga School (RYS).

EXCITED ABOUT ZOOM BUSTERS There’s a reason I’m so excited about the Zoom Busters my friend Kellye Abernathy is sharing with us. Here’s one story that explains why. A VERY ROUGH YEAR When my kids were 9 & 11, our family had a particularly rough year. It was one of those seasons in our family when everything that could go wrong, did. Things started out with a bang in March of that year when my father-in-law took a nasty fall and was hospitalized. It went downhill from there. By December, we had survived: the death of my father-in-law, two very serious car accidents, a cardiac scare (me), appendicitis (my husband), and a slew of job-related stresses. All things that kept us in a constant state of anxiety - which is why I’m sharing this particular story. STRESS AND THE BODY Whether we’re aware of it or not, our bodies carry the stress, worry, anxiety, and chaos of what is happening in our minds. Case in point – that cardiac scare of mine. It started (like all good stories) with a road trip. Six hours, in the driving rain. Four kids and one dog in the back seat. A mother-in-law in the passenger seat whacking my shoulder every time she was scared by the road conditions. By the end of it, my left arm and neck had been numb for the last hour of the trip. Once we got home, I called my doctor’s office. Of course, the nurse told me to run, don't walk, to the hospital. Like a crazy person, I drove myself to the nearest ER (did I mention my husband was traveling for work?) They immediately whisked me into triage and started poking, prodding, and testing me. After an overnight stay, we got the good news. It wasn't a cardiac event at all. It was purely stress and anxiety. STRESS AND OUR TEENS Right now, our world is going through a collective time of stress and anxiety – including our teens. Whether they’re doing their learning virtually or face-to-face, our landscape has changed, drastically. Not only does the coronavirus pose a real and present danger, but there is also the civil unrest gripping our country. Not to mention a contentious election that is at the forefront of the news cycle right now. ANOTHER SOURCE OF ANXIETY I’m not going to go into the complexities of all those things, because that’s not the point. The point is that our teens are absorbing all of this. In addition, they’re taking on developmentally appropriate stress. The kind that comes from not getting to see friends, participate in activities they love, or experience milestones they’ve long anticipated. And that anxiety? It’s sitting on their shoulders, constricting their chests, and curling in the muscles of their limbs. ZOOM BUSTERS FOR THE WIN That’s why, for the past couple of weeks, my good friend Kellye Abernathy and I have been sharing the Zoom Busters that she created. These stretching and breathing exercises help teens reset and refocus as they learn virtually, but their purpose goes deeper than that. Using these Zoom Busters will create more body-mind awareness in your teens and help them identify where there is stress stored in their body. When they can do that, they are empowered to use movement – like these exercises – to release that stress. Which makes for healthier teens. And healthier adults too – I’m throwing that in because these Zoom Busters can make a huge difference in your day too. MEET OUR ZOOM BUSTERS CREATOR Kellye Abernathy is a rock star of a human being, and I can’t wait for you to get to know her. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with over 500 hours of specialized training. She is also the very best example of a life-long learner that I’ve ever encountered. Her passion for brain research and exploring how humans connect with the natural world is beyond inspiring. I love how she brings everything that she’s learning to the table as she writes, teaches yoga, and comes alongside crisis survivors. Be sure to head to the Referenced in this Episode section below to watch the videos of Kellye leading us through the Zoom Busters. STRESS AND THE BENEFITS OF BREATHING Before I close out I also want to share a couple of things I learned as I prepped for this series of episodes. One, stress can manifest in the body in all kinds of ways. That includes things like headaches, upset stomachs, and muscle aches and pains. In the Referenced in this Episode section below, I’ve included an article on some of the physical things your teens might be experiencing that could indicate they’re experiencing anxiety. Two, there’s a lot of research that points to breathing exercises as an antidote to stress. Specifically, using a variety of breathing exercises is best. That means Kellye's Zoom Busters are extra-awesome because she walks us through a different kind in each set. I’ve included an article about that as well. PLEASE REACH OUT If anxiety in your teens is something you’re concerned about, nothing beats a trip to your family doctor or a counselor. Please reach out to your support system for help with this.

ZOOM BUSTERS AND MIND-BODY AWARENESS This week is part two of the Zoom Busters series where my friend, Kellye Abernathy, and I are sharing some strategies that will help you show your teens how to practice that mind-body awareness. When I was 12, I grew 6 inches in 12 months. The growing pains alone were excruciating, In addition, there was the awkwardness that comes from your brain getting caught up to your physical size. There’s a period of adjustment because your arms and legs don’t end up in the same place when you move them as they did yesterday. CONNECTING THE DOTS I was well into my thirties before I got the hang of it. That connection between the physical feelings I had and how they impacted me mentally and emotionally. Cranky and out of sorts? Yeah, that probably means I’m hungry or tired. Shoulders tight and jaws achy? That probably means I’ve got some anxiety going on, and that’s where I’m holding it. I’m on a lifelong journey to connect all the dots that make up me – the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual sides of me. And I want the same thing for my teens. For your teens too! MEET KELLYE, OUR ZOOM BUSTERS CREATOR Kellye is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with over 500 hours of specialized training. She has a passion for helping others and volunteers a generous amount of time serving and mentoring crisis-survivors. She has put together an amazing set of what she calls Zoom Busters for teachers and parents to do with their students who are learning virtually. WHY ZOOM BUSTERS? We know that it’s difficult for anyone to sit at a computer hour after hour – especially teens! These Zoom Busters are 3-5-minute stretching and breathing exercises that you can do with your students to help them reset and refocus. There are 6 Zoom Buster sets, and they can be done individually for shorter breaks, or consecutively for a full-body energization. PROPER SET-UP FOR ZOOM BUSTERS In the last episode, Kellye and I talked about the importance of setting up proper posture before each of the Zoom Busters. You can check up the video for that below. Anytime Kellye refers to the set-up posture, that’s what she’s talking about, so if you haven’t watched or listened to it, I encourage you to do so before moving on to any of the actual exercises. Today, Kellye is walking us through the first 2 Zoom Buster sets – the first is for the shoulders, the second is for the face. Yep – you heard that right. You’ll have to listen to find out what that looks like! There are videos demonstrating these Zoom Busters below as well, so be sure to check those out. YOUR NOSE KNOWS Last week, Kellye and I talked about the book Breath, by James Nestor. Because we practiced Alternate Nostril Breathing – if you remember I was a little sketchy on it – I wanted to do a bit of research. Here’s what I discovered. Right Nostril Breathing: Speeds up circulation. Warms the body. Increases cortisol levels, blood pressure, and heart rate. Activates the sympathetic nervous system (the “fight-flight-freeze” mechanism). Increases blood flow to the left hemisphere of the brain, specifically your prefrontal cortex. The left side of the brain is associated with logical decisions, language, and computing. Left Nostril Breathing: Is connected to the parasympathetic system (the “rest-and-relax” side). Lowers blood pressure. Cools the body. Reduces anxiety. Shifts blood flow to the right side of the brain. The right hemisphere of the brain is associated with creative thoughts, the formation of mental abstractions, and the production of negative emotions. CROSS-BODY ACTIVITIES That cross-hemisphere concept made me think of something I used to do in my classroom. It helped my students wake up and refocus. Because cross-body activities can activate both sides of the brain, I had students do this whenever they seemed lethargic or antsy. The Crossbody Shuffle Stand up. Take your left hand, move it across your body, and grab your right earlobe. Holding on to your earlobe, take your right hand and place it on your nose. Check to make sure your left arm is closest to our body, with your right arm crossed over in front of it. Lift one foot, so that you’re only standing on one foot. Rotate in a circle by hopping. EMPOWERING STUDENTS WITH ZOOM BUSTERS What I love about these first two Zoom Busters is that Kellye draws our attention to mind-body awareness. She really has students think about where they’re holding tension. Once they can identify that, they are empowered to use the Zoom Busters they've learned when they need them. In addition, it's empowering for students to understand the different crossbody movements that help activate different brain hemispheres. Especially if they can note the side of the brain where they most identify. Once they’ve done that, they’ll be able to choose movements that activate the hemisphere where they feel more challenged.

With the current global pandemic showing no signs of slowing down, we felt it was important to invite our community to “press pause” on this crisis. Just for a moment, so we can take a step back or forward, with an intentional focus on personal “Wellness.” All the wealth, supplies, and information in the world is meaningless unless you are mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally equipped to handle what comes next. We started off this week's round table introductions by inviting everyone to share, “What are you doing to stay physically active.” Our very special quest speakers for the call are: "Rachel Voss,” Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-500) IG: @rachelvossyoga FB: Rachel Voss Yoga Spotify: rachelvossyoga www.rachelvossyoga.com & “Dr. Danielle Jackson MD” Twitter: @DrDaniJackson Best Quote(s) from the Episode: “So important to stay connected with family & friends, while being super mindful of what you are taking in.” R. Michael speaks with Sandra Simchah Huizar about the COVID-19 environment and her techniques for Crushing Your Fear.My name is Sandra “Simchah” (Sim’kuh) Huizar, and I am the owner of Breath of Life Yoga and a Yoga Coach. I have been practicing and teaching yoga for over a decade.I am a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) and Certified Yoga Therapist (CYT) with Yoga Alliance. I have also earned my 200 E-RYT. I am actively registered with the International Association of Yoga Therapists. My legal name is Sandra, but all of my friends call me Simchah, and I invite you to do the same.Primarily I am a disciple of Christ in community with several other families, wife of an amazing husband (pictured, with me, above), retired homeschooling mother of 5, grandmother of 7. My passion for yoga was birthed when I was teaching Stress Relief classes in 2007 and working as an aromatherapist. The more I integrated the yoga poses into our routine, the more our students blossomed. I watched bodies become free, and anxiety subside—in each student and myself. I still remember the day I was doing a forward fold with my stiff hamstrings, just breathing and getting quiet, and suddenly everything CLICKED; without any pushing on my part, my hamstrings released all their tension and I was able to reach the floor. The thrill of eliminating the tension in my muscles sparked the deep desire to offer this physical freedom to others. It has been through time that I have found joy experiencing this same freedom in mind and heart as well. I have found that through consistent practice, prayer, and meditation that I have been able to emerge more genuine in my speech and actions. I no longer fear what the world thinks I should be (for the most part :)). I have a heightened sense of peace, purpose, and joy. Yoga, especially private yoga therapy, is an excellent way to provide you with tools to live a more authentic life.Check out Sandra at https://breathoflifeyoga.org/About the Crushing Your Fear PodcastBioMichael is an Entrepreneur who has started multiple revenue generating companies both in the US and Europe. Hector is the owner and head instructor of Hardstyle KBJJ in Corpus Christi, TX. Hector discovered his passion for strength training and overall conditioning in 2000 at Paragon Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Now Presa BJJ) under mentor Aurelio Gallegos Jr. Advancing through his training, Hector became an assistant instructor in 2003. While instructing students in a variety of techniques, Hector realized the importance of human movement, proper biomechanics, balance, strength, mobility, stability, and endurance. Inspired, he pursued education in Hatha Yoga, becoming a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT). In 2009, through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (N.A.S.M), he became a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES). Hector then began a search for a training technique/tool that would enable him to evolve athletically. He found his answer after a Jiu-Jitsu seminar with black belt Tyrone Glover at Paragon Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Hector asked Tyrone, "What are you doing for your strength and conditioning? You have the strength of a 200-pounder but only weigh 165 pounds!" The answer was Kettlebells. Taking up this new discipline, Hector immersed himself in Russian Kettlebell training. Looking to maximize his potential, he turned to the expertise found at the elite level of the Russian Kettlebell Challenge (RKC) now StrongFirst. After 10 intense (and challenging) years, incorporating the Russian Kettlebell into his Jiu-Jitsu training, Hector earned his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt August 22, 2011 from Ricardo (Franjinha) Miller and Aurelio Gallegos Jr.. JJ vividly reminds us that the word ‘fitness’ is not just about the state of one’s physical body, but also the factors which determine a person’s overall well being. And, for JJ, the key components in all these areas are ‘invisible’ — balanced support structures of nutrition, emotional centeredness and health. A favorite of journalists and the media for her depth of knowledge and vibrant personality, JJ, a contributing expert for Get Active Magazine, has also been featured in many national magazines, including Shape, Fitness, Muscle and Fitness HERS, Elegant Bride, and Women’s Health as well as appeared on NBC, CBS, Fox 11 and KTLA. She is also a video expert for About.com and regular contributor for The Daily Love. She has also been certified by the American Council on Exercise (ACE), International Sports Science Association (ISSA), and the Resistance Training Specialist Program (RTS). With a focus on biomechanics, JJ has lectured for The Learning Annex and as a featured speaker for New York Times Bestselling Author of The Millionaire Mind, T. Harv Ecker’s Peak Potentials seminars, as well as corporate clients, including Pacific Gas and Electric, Hanson Engineering, and Jostens, Inc. She is the Wellness Expert for KFC International, the Health and Fitness Expert for the National Association of Entrepreneur Moms, and a Fitness Expert for Nourishing Wellness Medical Center. She has been working in the health and wellness industry for 15 years, as a fitness trainer with a knack for helping her clients become more self-aware and self-empowered through her ability to quickly identify and pinpoint problem areas, and then create simple solutions involving exercise, nutrition and mindset changes. She is the Host of the new iTunes Podcast Show Fit 2 Love: Physical, Emotional and Spiritual Fitness for the Happy Life You Deserve which is six day a week video and audio show. What sets JJ apart from her Celebrity Fitness counterparts is the holistic approach to getting results. Over the last fourteen years she has studied, used and applied Positive Psychology, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Law of Attraction, Quantum Physics, Non Violent Communication, Imago Therapy, and Hypnotherapy.
