Podcast 100!
One our favourite artists out there right now, Pan Amsterdam, jumps in the hot seat to talk...
In this episode of Weird Rap Podcast, we're joined by Mars Kumari and Volume 10. Mars Kumari (aka Bruiser Marcy), member of Deadverse and Bruiser Brigade, has been bridging the gap between ambient noise and rap, making a stir in the last couple years as her work has been embraced by the likes of JUNE!, Dälek, and Danny Brown. Meanwhile she's released several solo instrumental albums heralded by avant-garde electronic listeners and hip hoppers alike. We discuss her artistic approach and music as therapy, plus she shares some exclusive tracks. Volume 10 (of Goodlife, Project Blowed, etc.) returns once again to share his thoughts on the new Backwoodz compilation, High Bias. He also talks about almost retiring, the tepid response to his most recent album 'Volume 10 As Dean Hawkins,' and more. In the bonus episode, many recent music releases are discussed including some by Machine Girl, Andrew Mbaruk, DJ Smiley Bobby, Buck 65, DJ Sega, Kohai the Wonderguy, Rahim Salaam, Moor Mother, Quelle Chris, Grill Billyenz, william crooks, Pan Amsterdam, Yung Morpheus, Lil Kydd!?, Joan Of The Stockyards, 40 Ounces Of Palimpestial Equations (Rammellzee and Part 2), Yole Boys, and First Degree The D.E. We also report on a recent concert featuring M. Sayyid (of Antipop Consortium), Jel, and Mars Kumari. And finally, Mars Kumari leaks two exclusive tracks, available to download. All of this, plus past bonus material is yours for three bucks at http://patreon.com/weirdrap. The many Weird Rap tentacles intersect at http://weirdrap.com, where you'll find Rammellzee and StapleMouth records, Kool Keith/Dr. Octagon shirts, Sensational CDs, and much more.
In episode 72 I talk to Leron Thomas aka Pan Amsterdam about Roy Hargrove, an American jazz pianist and composer who worked primarily as the leader of his trio. His use of impressionist harmony, interpretation of traditional jazz repertoire, block chords, and trademark rhythmically independent, "singing" melodic lines continues to influence jazz pianists today.

DOWNLOAD PODCAST : https://bit.ly/SBMixPodcast It feels like more is said than known about Sheffield’s @thatmanmonkz. They sometimes say he’s a veteran (he’s not, he’s only been a solo artist for 5 or so years). We've read that he’s enigmatic (he's not really, he’s very friendly, just unconcerned with hype). Apparently he makes 'Soulful House' (he sometimes does, but not 'soulful' in inverted commas, and he’s just as likely to be making disco or techno, or even hip hop... He's 1/2 of our favourite discovery this year Pan Amsterdam). He’s certainly always busy! In between the recent launch of his new edits label “Hot Peas N Butter”, and his upcoming sophomore solo album "Non Zero Sum Game" (due in mid October on his own Shadeleaf Music), 'monkz takes time out to drop us a guest mix somewhere in between the rare and the raw, filled with everything from disco steppers to analogue footworkers.

In the penultimate broadcast of Eclectic Kettle we welcome back Tom and Anna as co-hosts for a fresh round of joyous, chaotic banter and mirth. We also deliver some spectacular technical flubs, as if to get as many in before the end as we can. Tom, to his credit, actually prepared a theme and delivers an insightful and impassioned playlist of overlooked gay songwriters, while we also play a cover that he's been trying to get onto Kettle for some 3 years now.We also talk a tiny little bit about Ben's New Show, which will take the place of Kettle in the nearish future. The elusive Pan Amsterdam landed in Manchester a couple of days back for what was only his second gig – but not his first rodeo. Leron Thomas, the real life aka of the drawling lyricist, has his own rich musical history, some of which we dive into over the course of our interview which we chose to conduct (wisely or not, you decide) over food in Chinatown. Pan Am recruited Tacoma, Washington beatmaker/producer Mr.Shn (pron. ‘martian’) to provide the soundtrack for the tour, big shouts to him plus Matt at Def Pressé for facilitating our meeting, and all the people who bought wax at the gig after succumbing to my sales patter. Join Us as I steal his sweet and sour sauce, chat career, his good friend Malik Ameer Crumpler, thatmanmonkz, Madison Washington, opportunities, Bilal, Erykah and corruption in jazz.
