In this episode, we'll share our professional opinions on which vendors you should immediately book, and which ones are less important at the start of your wedding planning process. Sort of. Depending on your wedding, there's a better order to book them.Before managing the vendor order, we need to talk about budget and vision Your budget may dictate what you are able to book - can you afford both cake and a photo booth, or will you need to prioritize one over the other? How do you manage your budget and try to get everything you want?Top priority: venue or wedding planner. The venue will determine your date which is important when booking other vendors. Wedding planners would be equally as important if you need guidance when choosing your venue.It's ok to book your wedding planner without having a date.Depending on the venue, rentals, food and beverage might be next.  Hotels are more inclusive so a lot of rentals and F+B needs are included. Other venues don't include anything other than the space. These are foundational pieces for your wedding. (Must haves)The “fun” vendors come next, like decor, florals, photography, etc. This is the part of the wedding planning that people enjoy - cake tasting, food tasting, floral design, checking out live bands. Whatever your priority is, book those vendors first to make sure you have the budget for them.Joe's note: Within the category of “fun” vendors, some of them are one-of-a-kind, so book those first. For example, a bakery might be able to make multiple cakes, but a photographer might be able to only take one wedding a day. Rule 6 in Jordan Peterson's 12 Rules for Life This is absolutely crucial and absolutely apt to today where everyone seems to be an expert on how to change the world when a lot of people's houses are in utter chaos. They can't even communicate properly or keep it clean or what have you. It's just in absolute chaos, but they have a bright idea on how to change the entire system. So don't blame: capitalism, the radical left, or the inequity of your enemies. Don't reorganize the state until you have ordered your own experience. Have some humility. If you cannot bring peace to your own household, how dare you try and rule a city. So just take a moment to look around you and your local because also if you can't win on the local side, how can anyone expect to make a global impact at all? In the famous words of Mark Manson, “Everything is fucked.” The political landscape in the United States becomes more volatile, divisive, and crazy with every passing second. Our planet is placed under an ever-growing strain as greedy corporations pillage our resources for the sake of a quick dollar. Crime, corruption, and the degradation of the public’s mental health serve as a steadfast reminder that, no matter how far we’ve come since our hunter-gatherer days…we still have a long way to go. Because of the problems in the world (and the promulgation of negative news), many of us are quick to criticize and lambast the world and its leaders. But one of Jordan Peterson’s more insightful quotes reminds us that, no matter how bad the world might be, we are in no position to criticize it until we have set our own lives in order. We complain about the national deficit while ignoring the $30,000 in credit card debt we’ve racked up with frivolous spending. We criticize corporations and leaders for their apathy toward the environment while we ourselves continue to engage in destructive activities that pollute and destroy the planet. We criticize others for lying, cheating, and greed…failing to notice the hypocrisy as we too lie, cheat, and chase the almighty dollar. Eric Harris, one of the Columbine killers, was a young man who had his house in order. He was good with the ladies. He had several close friends, including Dylan Klebold (fellow Columbine Killer). He recently received a promotion. Though he had recently been punished for breaking into a van with his compatriot Dylan, Eric had graduated from the "diversion program," as one of the more distinguished young men. The judge who saw him believed him to be a fine young man with a good father. He was good with computers, smart, good-looking and charming.  Had we a time machine to take to Eric Harris the book "12 Rules For Life: An Antidote to Chaos" by Dr. Jordan B. Peterson, Eric would have merely become a more efficient killer. Had Eric taken to heart the blase advice by Peterson to put his house in perfect order before criticizing the world, Eric would merely have become a more efficient murderer. He would have arranged the chairs more properly on his sinking Titanic. In this podcast episode I dive deep into what connects Eric and Dylan to Islamic radicals, to Nazis, to Communists, and to any individual or group who has created a subjectivist irrational worldview and acted it out to it's fullest conclusion. In previous podcasts on rules 1-5 I have mostly praised Dr. Jordan Peterson. In this podcast I had no choice but to destroy his ideology. He is dead wrong about these ideologically motivated killers. Peterson also commits the gravest of crimes (though I am hoping he has been merely duped by his Christianity). But, he has committed the crime of intellectual dishonesty. There is no other conclusion that can be drawn when he compares the suffering of Eric and Dylan to that of the brutal murdering Carl Panzram.  Dylan and Eric were upper middle class, very loved and very lucky young men. Carl Panzram was raped and brutalized as a child in a correctional facility. To even pretend that these were the same, and that their "suffering" is what led them to seek vengeance is absurd and dishonest. Something else motivated Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold and Eliot Rodgers and Adam Lanza and Cho Seung-Hui to attempt to annihilate the universe, by pointing guns at school students. Our text today draws distinctions between the old order of the Levitical priesthood and the new order of Christ's High Priesthood. The superiority of Christ is reinforced as the general theme of Hebrews by particular examples here, especially as they relate to the Old Covenant ceremonial order eclipsed and transcended in the office and work of Christ. The unique aspects of Jesus' priesthood would have been surprising, perhaps shocking, to culturally conditioned Jews. In light of the experience of his readers – the author of Hebrews does not merely aim to convince, he goes further to use this occasion to demonstrate surpassing glory even in the technical details of the office and role of Christ as priest. These highlights of Jesus' divinity and sufficiency are couched in proclamation of abrogated law. Certain sections of legal code are rendered obsolete in our Lord. They have served their usefulness in preparing the way and provisionally governing temple worship until Christ, but now they bow to Him, similar to John the Baptist pointing to the Messiah: “Behold the Lamb” – once the perfect has come, the predecessor must decrease that Christ may increase!

It didn't win any prizes; no awards; didn't make many, if any, long or short lists; but David Gilmour's The Perfect Order of Things is a great novel. The best I read last year. In fact, I think it's one of the best Canadian novels ever written. Deceptively easy to read, the book's 300-odd pages are not only crowded with elegantly crafted sentences, they collectively capture and convey levels of insight and depths of experience one typically finds only in great Russian novels. Perfect Order leaves you invigorated; filled with admiration for the life fully lived. It makes you want to get out there and show the world who's boss. David Gilmour was in Ottawa recently to attend the Ottawa International Writers Festival.
