2nd generation Firefighter with 15 years of volunteer and career experience. A driver on 17 Truck for the City Of Pittsburgh Bureau Of Fire, Assistant Fire Chief for Stowe Township VFD and out of state member for West Lanham Co 28 in PG County. My conversation with Brandon was an absolute delight due to the fact of how humble and open he was when it comes to not knowing every aspect of the job, continuing to better himself through books, attending classes/conferences, and listening to the members before him. Brandon's mindset when it comes to being a Firefighter and a Chief Officer is without a shadow of a doubt what I hope we all try to strive for with the key take away being we can't forget where we came from and just because you have rank doesn't mean your better.IG: gritfiretraining

In the latest episode of Mojo for the Modern Man, I had the pleasure of chatting with Dexter Spitz, a man who's as deep as he is insightful. We dove into his coping mechanisms, from creative outlets to the classic trio of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. As we wrapped up, Dexter left us with a challenge: to cultivate mindfulness and compassion as tools for navigating life's twists and turns.
Barbara Pardue is a local historian and runs a Facebook page called, Northern Outer Banks History. Her blood lines run deep on the Northern Outer Banks and her passion for the history is unmatched. She was first bitten by the history bug by a grandfather who shared numerous stories and this led to her own, personal research. She started the Facebook page to share this knowledge and research with her family. In this interview, Barbara shares stories of murder, gold bars, brothels, a Revolutionary hero, Blackbeard, the Ash Wednesday Storm, and more. Before we sat down and recorded, Barbara was nice enough to give me a quick tour of the area where she lives in Swan Beach. She showed me where the Currituck Inlet used to be, where the L.R. White Summer Hotel once stood, and where she lives when she's in town. These places are located on private property so I was privileged to see them in-person. Funny side note: Before Barbara and I started the recording we were getting to know each other and we found out we both used to live in the same area of Prince George's County in Maryland. As I was walking out of the restaurant the manager said he heard me talking about Prince George's County and he told me he was from Bowie, which is also in PG County. I should mention we were the only three people in the restaurant when we showed up. And we're all from PG County. What are the chances? Big thanks to Barbara Pardue for sitting down with me. You can find her on Facebook at Northern Outer Banks History.

This week, they're discussing childhood nostalgia, navigating friendships as adults, and becoming first-time entrepreneurs.01:07 - They say music is good for the soul at every age, but what about the lyrics? Sometimes they need to come with their own parental advisory. Artiera gets dragged into one of The Ashley's nostalgic music deep dives but she loves it there! 05:09 - Ms. PG County herself clarifies what's in a name and gives a quick history lesson on Pretty Girl County. All three of the women connect on their mother's love for the Kennedys and Princess Diana. 12:37 - From A-cups to 10-year check ups, The fake titty committee bonds over everything from silicon warranties to the importance of creating safe spaces where friends can talk about it all. There is a thin line between privacy and being open, but sometimes you have to learn that lesson the hard way.17:22 - Head over to Artiera's page and then your mutuals. You're bound to find someone you know. She's a friendly girl but what does that really mean? The ladies dive deep into the importance of refining your inner circle, what it means to keep and share secrets, and why you should use social media to connect with other women for friendships AND business.30:31 - Meet Curl Of Art, a two-part system for natural hair types meant to flip the current meaning of “Wash Day” upside down. However, when Artiera started Curl Of Art during the Pandemic, she had no idea she would also be turning into the chemist, the marketer, the saleswoman, and every other role necessary to bring her baby to life. This honest conversation about the struggles and sisterhood of entrepreneurship is good for the soul. For over 20 years, Jimmy Garvin ran programs at Langston Golf Course that included creating a learning center in the clubhouse where he used the game of golf as a carrot to get kids to focus on their education as well as exposing new destinations to a traveling team of All-Stars that competed against their peers abroad. Jimmy Garvin served as President of Golf Course Specialists, the longtime lease-holder of the three DC courses. He and his Legacy Foundation had a profound impact on many kids in this region who were able to see the game of golf as a vehicle to something greater. His programs came to a halt in 2012 after a well-publicized case involving a DC Councilmember who misused funds intended for these programs. Jimmy was forced to restart and eventually became part of the ownership group at Marlton Golf Course in PG County and today manages Rock Creek Park Golf Course. jimmygarvingolf.org Sponsored by Union Green - Uniting people on & off the Green through public golf - uniongreen.com Listen or watch below! https://youtu.be/-o4n5yJuyR4
