This week's Dark Nation Radio leads off with a very aggressive set—Faderhead, Fear Factory, Pitchshifter, White Zombie, Chemlab, Hasswut, and KMFDM in the mix—so turn it up if you need to scream. From there, it mellows out a bit and includes new tracks from Slighter, Valhall, Palindrones, Twice Dark, Hallows, Rina Pavar, Silver Tears, White Ritual, and others. Thanks for your support during these challenging times. As always, if you like what you hear, I hope you will support the bands and consider following me on your preferred platform. Reposts of the show so that others can find out about it are particularly appreciated. Questions and promo materials may be directed to darknationradio@gmail.com. Interview by Kris PetersBurton C Bell is a name synonymous with metal.Fresh off his induction into the prestigious Metal Hall of Fame, Burton continues to solidify his legacy as a trailblazer of industrial metal. Renowned for his groundbreaking role in Fear Factory, the extreme music pioneer, multimedia talent, and iconoclastic provocateur resurrects his legacy and forward-thinking destiny, remade in a career-spanning incarnation as a singular solo artist. Bell's discography includes multiple live and recorded collaborations with Black Sabbath icon Geezer Butler and Journey's Deen Castronovo (as GZR); industrial maverick Al Jourgensen and Ministry; and guest vocal appearances with Pitchshifter, Conflict, Soil, Static-X, Soulfly, and Delain, among others. He's the vocalist of Ascension Of The Watchers and City Of Fire and, of course, the co-creator of Fear Factory and the only musician to appear on every Fear Factory release from 1992 through 2024.And now Bell has set his sights on Australia for his solo project, which has already spawned two singles in Anti - Droid and Technical Exorcism, with two more promised before June. His Australian shows promise to be an unmissable experience, featuring heavy, groovy, dark, and moody tracks, alongside rare live renditions of deep cuts from his vast discography, but to find out just what to expect, HEAVY spent some time with Bell to get down and dirty."I had a great response," he smiled when we asked about how his first two solo singles were received. "Live, the fans love them. They translate well. The band that I have gathered - or should I say curated, because it took me a couple of years to grab these guys together. I've known them for a few years, but finally I got this band together and the music that we play is really translating… a new groove that is translating in songs in a heavy, groovy, dark and moody way. It's amazing. What you hear is going to be heavier live."In the full interview, Burton talks more about what to expect from the shows, what has changed with him and his music since his last visit in 2021, how the shows will be intimate, what songs he will be drawing from in the set list, future music and if the singles released are an indication of what the album will sound like, how he keeps music fresh and exciting for himself, the songwriting process and if it becomes easier or harder over time, being inducted into the Metal Hall Of Fame and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
Aaron Tanner in conversation with David Eastaugh https://officialmerchandise.store/collections/melodic-virtue https://www.melodicvirtue.com/collections/books/products/cardiacs Compiled and designed by Aaron Tanner, Cardiacs: A Big Book and a Band and Whole World Window spans the group's formative years as Cardiac Arrest to their last single, Ditzy Scene (2007). This new release features rare and unseen photos, artwork, and other ephemera that will captivate long-time fans and newcomers alike. With an introduction by Shane Embury of Napalm Death, this book is both a tribute and a comprehensive chronicle of the band's artistry as a whole, providing a wealth of behind-the-scenes looks from the perspectives of band members past and present, alongside fans and contemporaries such as: Mike Patton (Mr. Bungle, Faith No More), Billy Gould (Faith No More), Todd Sucherman (Styx), Boff Whalley and Dunstan Bruce (Chumbawamba), Mike Keneally (The Zappa Band), Joanna Wang, Martin Atkins (Public Image Ltd), Rob Crow (Pinback), Amon Tobin, Rhodri Marsden (Scritti Politti), Charlie Harper (U.K. Subs), Ego Plum, Pitchshifter, Dan Mongrain (Voivod), Paul Masvidal (Cynic), J.G. Thirlwell (Foetus) and many more! The book also contains a black vinyl 7" record of the previously unreleased track, "Aukamakic/Dead Mouse,” from the sessions of their 1979 debut, Cardiac Arrest E.P., as well as the track previously unreleased on vinyl, "Faster Than Snakes with a Ball and a Chain.” This song was originally intended for their 1999 full-length, Guns.

October 28, 1997 - Max attended The Rolling Stones at Owen Field in Norman & watched the show from the 2nd Row! Dylan fell asleep, catches a pick from Keith Richards. Max discusses his youngest son Austin being put on stage with Aerosmith by Steven Tyler at the Starplex in Dallas, TX. November 26th, 1997, the night before Thanksgiving, Toadies, Nixons, & Baboon played the Diamond Ballroom. Max & Jeff discuss the successes that can be had doing shows the day before Thanksgiving when people travel back home. Creed came through OKC for the first time at the Boar's Head in French Market Mall for only $8. Thats the last time you could've seen them for only $8. We discuss a show in June of 1998 w/ Junkie XL, Pitchshifter, & Gravity Kills at the Will Rogers Theater. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation might not have won an Academy Award, but it did give us an incredible soundtrack and sitting right on Track 5 was Pitchshifter with their song, Genius taken from their 1998 album, www.pitchshifter.com. This album is pure punk rock guitars over drum machines with glitched out politically charged vocals so it is easy to see why their were hometown heroes in Nottingham but what isn't as easy to see if why their parting with Earache caused so much drama. Earache founder, Digby Pearson said "what a colossal waste of space that band turned out to be" - man, falling out of love can be rough. They say the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference but can the same be said when you have royalties, touring duties, song writing and recordings involved? Check us out on Instagram too. Not going to link it. Just search Bacio Death Trip.
On today's action packed episode, dem Nudy Boyz get started off with controversy, as they unpack a mean Instagram comment, a dumb Reddit comment, and pickle juice drinks. Also, our good sponsor (don't fact check this) Mountain Dew gives some summer love, as the Boyz taste test some limited edition varietals. We also listen to a weird remix before diving into today's band, Pitchshifter, and their 1998 effort, www.pitchshifter.com. Enjoy!!! Speaking today with Adam Frakes-Sime of UK supergroup, Hellblind, was a wonderful experience for me. The joy of his character came out in proportions I was not expecting from a man who makes 'those' sounds. It was as eye opening as it was ear numbing. Adam gave me some insight into his life before Hellblind, how the band ultimately got together, and how they plan on taking the planet by storm, one stage at a time. You may not know the name, but you know the bands from whence they came, namely, Pitchshifter and Romeo Must Die. Adam and I had a great time, and as an aside, his accent is amazing. I felt like it was in a Guy Ritchie movie, for God's sake. Walk into the path of a heavy metal supercell. New episode out now. To kick off the show this week we start with UK Metal/Grime crew Hacktivist who have just unleashed their second single Reprogram https://youtu.be/nY9PJWSnuhY taken from their upcoming release Hyperdialect Co-vocalist Jot Maxi comments: "There's a double meaning to this one. Society needs reprogrammed, Hacktivist has been reprogrammed, so if you're listening and you're vibing out to it, have a little think about what you might need to do in your own life to reprogram – to make yourself like yourself better, or to have less regret. "Society needs a reboot, our band has had a reboot, so why don't you? At the same time, it's got this little science fiction story within it, about a future that breaks down and actually needs reprogrammed from zero. In an ideal world, hopefully, we will have all reprogrammed before anything like that happens to us for real." Hyperdialect will be released on 18th June 2021 via UNFD, and is available to pre-order here: https://unfd.lnk.to/hyperdialect Hacktivist recently announced a special one-off headline show to celebrate the release of Hyperdialect. Set to take place on 29th July 2021 at London's Signature Brew, support will come from rising artist Kid Bookie who features on the band's single 'Armoured Core'. Tickets for the show are on sale here: https://www.hacktivist.uk.com/shows Check out 'Armoured Core' featuring Kid Bookie here: https://youtu.be/kuN7AbgZzao Watch the video for recent single 'Planet Zero' here: https://youtu.be/zcjxxoJ8BHU Hacktivist online https://www.hacktivist.uk.com https://www.facebook.com/Hacktivistband/ https://twitter.com/hacktivistuk https://www.instagram.com/hacktivistuk Reprogramme for me is classic Hacktivist big riffs with thick bass lines that hit hard almost like a punch to the chest, mixed with grime elements, lyrically reprogramme is genius production is great crisp clean as always from these guys who are never afraid to keep pushing boundaries, I can't speak highly enough of these guys they are great at their own induvial crafts and bring this all together to give us their unique sound, a great track to kick off the show with. Next track of the week They Fell From The Sky who are making their Setting The Tone debut They Fell From The Sky who are Colin Doran - Vocals Jason Bowld - Drums Dave Draper - Guitars, Programming Lee Erinmez – Bass Oly Edkins - Guitars, Backing Vocals Release a brand new track crush https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atL5uqqRNKw They Fell From The Sky formed after Colin Doran (Hundred Reasons) and Jason Bowld (Bullet For My Valentine, Pitchshifter, Killing Joke) got together for Jason's collaborative project ‘This Is Menace'. They then started writing with Dave Draper and completed the line up with Lee Erinmez (Snuff) and Oly Edkins. Once in the studio the band's songwriting flourished and an album began to take shape, blending the multitude of styles each member brought to the table. The songs started to flow and the sound honed to make the unique songwriting juggernaut that is ‘They Fell From The Sky'. Their upcoming single ‘Dry' is a perfect example of the bands ability to mix their heavier backgrounds with mainstream appeal, taken from their debut album due for release in the Spring of 2021. The album is produced by the band's guitarist Dave Draper, who's best known for his work with The Wildhearts, The Professionals and Kerbdog. Commenting on the track, vocalist and lyricist Colin Doran explains: “It's about people who are consistently only apologetic when absolutely caught out; But are not actually sorry at all.” They Fell From The Sky online https://linktr.ee/theyfellfromthesky https://www.facebook.com/TheyFellFromTheSky https://twitter.com/tfftsband https://www.instagram.com/tfftsband/ what I love about Crush is a can hear an element of Rise against us, this punk rock vibe with big hooks and melody but the guys here are not afraid not add their own ideas on this track weather that be a slight growl on the vocals as an example I really like crush and I'm keen to see what else comes from They Fell From the Sky Next this week is the return of One Last Day South-East rockers ONE LAST DAY are proud to unleash their new single THIS BOTTLE GOT ME https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyigRypD1ZM&feature=youtu.be About One Last Day It started with a single jam session between two guitar loving friends. Gareth Stapleton and John Harmsworth knew they had the start of something that could work. With a shared desire to deliver heavy yet accessible music, One Last Day's journey was born. Of course, at this point there were no other members, no plan, not even the name! Through the creative development, the guys started playing with different musicians and cementing the direction they wanted to progress, with the addition of Adrian Osman on drums, they found a kindred spirit and also the solid backdrop on which they could deliver. As active members of the South East music scene, they already knew of the vocal prowess of Alex Willox, and after a few hours in a dingy practice room, One Last Day had found its voice, literally. ONE LAST DAY are: Alex Willox - Vocals Gareth Stapleton – Rhythm Guitar and Backing Vocals John Harmsworth – Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals Bob Brockwell - Bass Adrian Osman – Drums ONE LAST DAY links Official Website Facebook Instagram Youtube Spotify Bandcamp Okay so this is a welcome back to the show for this band and I recall speaking about their debut single and like I don't want to slam this because the positive is it's a new band coming out during a pandemic and all thou I was not blown away by their debut single, I wanted to hear what else was to come rather than just shutting them down, well I'm pleased with the latest offering What I like straight away is the tone of Alex vocals it reminds me a little bit of Howard Jones vocals what is love single The chorus has a massive hook will and will easily have you pulled in, the tempo is really important on this as track is not afraid to speed up or slow down at any stage, and this even time for a bit of a Rammstein influence towards the end where the words I lose my mind are being reparteed, overall it's a great follow up single and there is plenty of room for this band to grow. Lastly this week we have Next up is a band who are no strangers to Setting The Tone, welcome back to NO:IR who have just unleashed their brand new single Phantom Since their debut in 2019, Bristol-based Nu-Metal five-piece NO:IR have evolved their sound from their hardcore roots to create a modern fusion from a host of genres. They take deep inspiration - and their name, from Film Noir, often characterised by cynicism, intricate plots and existential philosophy. With four previous successful singles under their belt, the band have achieved more than 100,000 streams on Spotify. Their innate blend of rap and metal draws on an array of influences including emo, hip-hop and dark pop. This has resulted in a signature re-imagination of the Nu-Metal sound; their upcoming single Phantom due for release May 7th 2021, captures this perfectly. Produced, Mixed and Mastered with Josh Gallop (Phoxjaw) at Stage 2 Studios in Bath, Phantom challenges and explores the honesty and authenticity around an artist's image. Established artists show a diverse variety of personalities, with some being completely transparent about their feelings and life stories; and some being the opposite, creating new identities or writing about fictitious situations in order to seem more appealing or interesting. NO:IR online https://open.spotify.com/album/473c5cJuhkFlv5YfY8cvrN https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUNx0VKfESk https://www.thebandnoir.com/ https://www.facebook.com/thebandnoiruk https://twitter.com/thebandnoir https://www.instagram.com/thebandnoir https://open.spotify.com/artist/5BVZqn07CjxpVxqBkmDzHw https://music.apple.com/us/artist/no-ir/84853764 https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/noir3/phantom I wont lie and pretend to hide my excitement these guys have been on my radar for a while I really love what they have to offer. Phantom is a slightly different take on what has come before, it's a slightly more melodic feel almost like this is NO:IR ballad and that's fine there is almost like a grime feel to phantom, bars are being spit. Overall it's different from what has come before there is not as much high energy behind this, but this is perfect for a set as you can bring the pace down with this track and pick up later. We have records from the peak of late 90s electronica mania and the new(ish) wave of goth-punk on the docket this week in the form of Pitchshifter's www.pitchshifter.com and Belgrado's self-titled debut. How does a Godflesh-indebted industrial metal act end up selling tens of thousands of copies on a major label? How are today's grim realities being filtered into grimier, less-frilly expressions of goth? We take up those questions plus some discussion of Nine Inch Nails reissues and the return of Salem on this week's episode of the podcast.
I speak to Gordon from Raging Speedhorn! We talk about the 20th Anniversary of their self titled debut album. Experiences from back then and what they are up to now! New album on the way, tours next year including dates with Pitchshifter! Enjoy!
I welcome Mark Clayden to the show, he is the founding member and bass player for 'Pitchshifter'. We talk 20th Anniversary release of 'EFKD 2020', their plans for 2021, a little about the .com album, and we go back to the origin days of Pitchshifter. Also support Mark's charity 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life Bristol' (https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/last-night-a-dj-saved-my-life-bristol) He is raising money to buy portable hand wound radios to give to the homeless, those in need and the isolated in Bristol. Enjoy!

The Young Gods with Franz Treichler in conversation with David Eastaugh Their name is taken from an early EP by the no wave/noise rock band Swans. Artists influenced by the Young Gods include Pitchshifter, Mike Patton, Sepultura, The Edge (as stated in U2 by U2), Devin Townsend, Ithak, Econoline Crush and David Bowie; asked in 1995 if his album Outside was influenced by Nine Inch Nails, Bowie answered: "The band that I was actually quite taken with was three guys from Switzerland called the Young Gods... I’d been aware of them previous to knowing about Nine Inch Nails." Roli Mosimann of Swans has worked with the group as a producer. In 2007 they did a Take-Away Show acoustic video session. Notable hits are: "Did You Miss Me?", "Envoyé!", "Longue Route", "Skinflowers", and "Kissing the Sun". In December 2012, the Young Gods gave a small series of concerts to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their first album (1987). The group will play songs from their first two albums ("The Young Gods" and "L'eau rouge"). The line-up will be Franz Treichler (vocals), Bernard Trontin (drums) and Cesare Pizzi (samplers). The group supplied original music for the 2012 animated short film, Kali the Little Vampire, which went on to win over 20 international awards.

In many ways, Pitchshifter are an anomaly. Initially staggering onto the scene in a maelstrom of pseudo-Minestry inspired industry metal, although somehow heavier, they were every bit the equal of their early 90 metal peers in terms of sheer ferocity and ambition. But as they progressed, changing vocalist and embracing a multitude of influences from drum and bass, dance music and more, they begun to shed their one-dimensional skin in favour of something more dynamic, interesting and, perhaps above all, much, much more innovative. Which brings us to www.pitchshifter.com. Their fourth album, the title seems somewhat quaint in the modern era, but in a way, it underlines just how forward thinking they were. With addition of Jim Davies, the erstwhile guitarist for The Prodigy, and a major label deal in the offing, they went full on industrial rock. They combined a bunch of disparate influences from across rock, metal and dance to create a record which has ideas that are still, even now 20 years later, ahead of their time. Chris has been a fan since the 90s, whilst Mark and Weaver had never really spent time with the band until this record was thrust upon them. What transpired was, we think, an interesting dissection of a band who may very well have peaked with this album, reaching that critical point where their ambition met the tunefulness that would carry them, at least somewhat, into the mainstream. On the back of this record they became critical darlings in the music press, both for their recorded output and their live shows. At this point, it seems that perhaps their legacy is not as regarded as it should be, and Chris makes the case as to why this album is a proper Unsung Classic. Agree? Disagree? You know what to do.

It seemed like industrial was everywhere in the 90s and early 2000s. Hundreds of bands were flooding the market, and trying to put their own stamp on the house that Nine Inch Nails built. Pitchshifter was one such band, and has played no less than four different styles throughout their career. On this episode of Discography Discussion, we look for a unifying theme in Pitchshifter, and try to find out if the band was original, or just another trend hopping metal band. #Pitchshifter #discussmetal Join our Patreon: Discography Discussion on Patreon - http://bit.ly/discussmetalpatreonDiscography Discussion Podcast Homepage - http://bit.ly/DiscographyDiscussionSubscribe to RSS - http://feeds.feedburner.com/danandjoeshowListen to Discography Discussion on Spotify - http://bit.ly/discussmetalspotifyDiscography Discussion on iTunes - http://bit.ly/discussmetalitunesDiscography Discussion on Google Play - http://bit.ly/discussmetalgoogleplayListen on Stitcher - http://bit.ly/discussmetalstitcherWatch/Listen on Youtube - http://bit.ly/discussmetalyoutubeListen on TuneIn - http://bit.ly/discussmetaltuneinFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/DiscographydiscussionTwitter - https://twitter.com/discussmetalTumblr - https://danandjoeshow.tumblr.comGoogle+ - http://bit.ly/discussmetalgoogleplusQuestions? How this lead to some bands trying to put a decibel level on the band, as well as the struggles involved with recording their music due to the restrictions of available tech at the time. This week, Gavvie's joined by Mena in a show filled to the brim with surprises. There's the debut of a new Mr. Stream track, Pitchshifter makes a long awaited return, and MegaDriver kick off a brand new feature - the MiniGig. You don't want to miss it!
It's the first proper SNS since December, and Gavvie has found a couple of surprises to air! There's also a small amendment to the Pitchshifter prize, although that isn't really a bad thing...
It's Birdcon 2010, and you know what that means, right? Yep, another prerecorded SNS. This time around, Pitchshifter makes a return along with some old favourites, new songs are debuted, and there's still no snow...or is there?
A triple bill of RadioSEGA exclusives headlined this week's show, and the Pitchshifter makes a welcome return. But the highlight of the show? Something you won't even notice...

SNS is pre-recorded this week as Gavvie is away (again). And with no Pitchshifter this week, there's enough space for a trio of excellent Rez tracks alongside the Top 5 Requests and the Saturday Night Surprise. You lucky, lucky people!
Everything's up in the air this week as SNS features music pulled entirely from the past week's Requests Chart! Pitchshifter also returns for Round 3, and there's a double bill of Saturday Night Surprise goodness! And all whilst Gavvie is feeling a little under the weather! You lucky, lucky people..
SNS returns! In a slightly longer episode than normal, Gavvie showcases two intros in a One Week Only format, as well as playing the past week's Top 5 Requests, offering up a double bill of Saturday Night Surprises, and deafening listeners 4 times with Round 2 of Pitchshifter...
