This week on Nerds Talking, our main topic is the shocking attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. On July 13, 2024, Trump, the Republican Party's presumptive nominee in the 2024 presidential election, was shot and wounded in his right ear while addressing a campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania. Who was behind this attack? What were their motives? Numerous theories abound, but we are committed to uncovering the truth and digging deep into the details. This incident could have drastically altered the course of the nation had the assassin succeeded. In addition to this gripping main story, we cover some other notable, albeit less critical, topics. We discuss Michael Jackson's mother and her recent legal battle to claim royalties from the late singer's estate. Moreover, we review the supernatural horror film The Watchers. This 2024 American film, written and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan in her directorial debut and produced by M. Night Shyamalan, is based on the 2022 novel by A. M. Shine. It stars Dakota Fanning, Georgina Campbell, Olwen Fouéré, and Oliver Finnegan. The story follows Mina, an American expatriate working in a pet shop in Galway, Ireland, who is haunted by the death of her mother, which she accidentally caused fifteen years earlier. Estranged from her twin sister Lucy, Mina embarks on a journey to deliver a golden conure parrot to a zoo near Belfast. When her car breaks down in a forest, she becomes stranded and meets an old woman named Madeline, along with two other occupants, Ciara and Daniel, in a bunker-like building called "The Coop." They soon discover they are being watched by mysterious entities known as "The Watchers" through a mirrored window every night. Join us for an episode filled with in-depth analysis, thought-provoking discussion, and our honest review of The Watchers. Stasa Nikolic is defined as the actress who wears many hats; from acting, to dancing, and theater, she is an all-around talented individual. The insight that she offered about the movie is paramount knowledge that anyone can soak in, I can admit happily that I learned a lot about the movie, and I also believe that her on screen chemistry with Anders Hove is brilliant. As I stated in the interview, this rendition from the franchise is one of the better films that I actually enjoyed. I can imagine as if any other fan of the franchise feels the same way. Hopefully, there will be a sixth installment as Stasa sneakily hinted in the interview. Overall, this was a great interview with Stasa. I can tell by her personality that she is committed to her strategies of becoming a better actress and for that, I have a lot more respect for her and what she does. Be sure to follow her on Instagram and catch her in her new & upcoming thriller: “Tarot” where she plays the ‘Countess' alongside Olwen Fouéré (from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – 2022), Jacob Batalon (from the Spiderman Universe), and Harriet Slater (from Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny). --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/southjerseyhorror/message

Following a double mastectomy, and hoping to recover in peace, actress Veronica Ghent travels to what she believes will be a solitary retreat in the Scottish Highlands. She's accompanied by a young nurse, Desi, who through sheer will and a good heart is able to put up with Veronica's brusque, standoffish nature. There are other forces at work: the land on which their cabin sits was the burial ground of thousands of alleged witches, whose ashes have fertilized the soil and created ground rich with supernatural power. When her dreams are haunted by visions of witches being burned and silenced, we learn of an incident from Veronica's past involving a famous director and possible abuse. It's an incident that's scarred Veronica as much as her recent surgery. But now, imbued with powers thanks to the the Highlands, Veronica finds herself able to confront the damage done to both mind and body. In the sixth and final episode of the series, presenter Dónal Dineen meets one of Ireland's most important contemporary theatre and performance artists, Olwen Fouéré, an artist known for her remarkable and often physical performances. Fouéré - whose extensive practice navigates theatre, film, the visual arts, music, dance theatre and literature, speaks with Dónal about her multidisciplinary career and creative journey. He meets her at home in Dublin for an extended conversation on the extent of her singular voyage through a plethora of significant theatrical productions and different art forms across countries and continents. We find out about her life before she found acting and the immediate impact that discovery had on her in the early days, through the innovative work of Focus Theatre and immersion in the fertile atmosphere of the Project Arts Centre. There are insights into how she expanded her practice and sated an ever-present thirst for experimentation by sharpening her acting tools and developing significant new strands through collaboration with composer Roger Doyle and the formation of the Operating Theatre company and music group. We hear her thinking behind the subsequent formation of another artistic entity called TheEmergencyRoom for projects ‘in need of immediate attention', in order to provide a virtual holding space for the development of art-based ideas, relationships and performance contexts. One of the first projects to be developed by TheEmergencyRoom was Riverrun which was Olwen's own adaptation and performance of the voice of the river ‘Life' in James Joyce's Finnegan's Wake. We take a deep-dive into the genesis and development of this ground-breaking idea which captivated audiences and critics worldwide. Along the way we find out about her love for dance and cinema and how she has carved a space for herself in both those worlds as well as hearing more philosophical thoughts of how theatre works and the nature of performance. Born on the west coast of Ireland to Breton parents Yann Fouéré and Marie-Magdeleine Mauger, Olwen Fouéré is an artist whose extensive practice navigates theatre, film, the visual arts, music, dance theatre and literature. She has received international acclaim for her work and was performer and artistic collaborator in Jesse Jones's Tremble, Tremble which represented Ireland at the Venice Biennale in 2017. We Are The Makers is written and presented by Irish broadcaster Dónal Dineen and produced by Ian Cudmore. Original music by Ultan O'Brien. Commissioned by Solas Nua in Washington, D.C., bringing contemporary Irish art to U.S. audiences. Photo by Barry McCall. Kindly supported by Culture Ireland. ///

Brown Thomas presents the Art of Beauty - a series exploring the relationship between art, fashion and beauty. In this episode we've taken highlights from the series which speaks to Irish actress Olwen Fouéré, Irish model & artist Clara MacSweeney, Irish Singer Loah and Irish model & actress Liath Hannon about what beauty means to them and how it plays a role in their craft.
Some of Finnegans Wake’s canniest readers, like guest Olwen Fouéré, don’t read the whole thing. That makes sense, too, considering that the book is itself incomplete: the last line doesn’t end, has no period. You’re left with a book that cannot conclude itself, that avoids coherence. So what are all these words doing, if not communicating? In part, they’re making music. They’re an experiment with language’s sounds. Joyce obsessed over such sounds, including the sound linkages that connect meanings in ways impossible to track consistently. The scholar Joseph Nugent says in this episode, “Joyce does things very frequently for the fun of it, or because of some coincidence that was inside his own head that the rest of us have no access to whatsoever. We give up after a while imagining that we’re going to make entire sense of this book.” Some of the sound connections are easier to make than others, especially when we think of the book’s music. The book alludes often to the song “Finnegan’s Wake,” but it also echoes the song about poor old Michael Finnegan, which has lyrics—“poor old Michael Finnegan, begin again”—about restarting. When you read the book with songs in mind, you can end up noticing glorious constellations that scholars have catalogued for decades. Consider the closing lines, with their patterns of iambs and rhyme and alliteration, their music that carries you along with the rising and falling of waves: "We pass through grass behush the bush to. Whish! A gull. Gulls. Far calls. Coming, far! End here. Us then. Finn, again! Take. Bussoftlhee, mememormee! Till thousandsthee. Lps. The keys to. Given! A way a lone a last a loved a long the" You, reader or listener, have to figure out where you go from here. But the Wake gives you rhythms and sensations to encourage those next steps. Born in Ireland, to Breton parents, Olwen Fouéré is a writer, producer and theatre maker. A reviewer once said of her that if she sat on a stage doing nothing it would still be completely compelling. Fouéré makes theatre that people find disturbing or unsettling and much of her extensive body of work is provocative, the kind of art that stays with you or even might change you a bit. Since the 1970s she has been working solidly in film and theatre. Her film work includes This Must Be The Place with Sean Penn, Mandy with Nicolas Cage and The Survivalist which is very apt these days. In theatre, she is best know for a powerhouse performance of Salome at The Gate and Riverrun, her own seminal work which evoked the voice of the river in Joyce’s Finnegan’s Wake and toured all over the world. Fouéré spoke to Roisin Ingle at our sixth Big Night In on Zoom about life, loss, art, love, family and open relationships.

It is one of the last films scored by Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who died in February 2018. The film is dedicated to him."The enchanted lives of a couple in a secluded forest are brutally shattered by a nightmarish hippie cult and their demon-biker henchmen, propelling a man into a spiraling, surreal rampage of vengeance."
