He co-wrote and stars in the new film, “Unplugging,” a new comedy now on VOD, that sees a workaholic husband and wife, played by Matt and Eva Longoria, who are both permanently glued to their phones. Without GPS to guide them or social media to save them, they are forced to rediscover what truly matters — each other. Then we meet “Pressure” star Kevin Doyle. On this episode of the Richard Crouse Show we get to know, all the way from Cornwall in South West England, Jeremy Brown and Jon Cleave, two of the founding members of the sea shanty singing group Fisherman's Friends. They have incredible story of being discovered by a music producer who visited their small fishing village of Port Isaac, and propelling them to stardom. Their recordings of traditional sea shanties have topped the charts and they've played on the main stage of the Glastonbury Festival in front of 100,000 people and for royalty at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Their story has inspired two films, “Fisherman's Friends” and the sequel, which is in theatres now, “Fisherman's Friends: One and All,” starring James Purefoy and now it's a stage show called “Fisherman's Friends: The Musical which has just touched diown at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto after a successful run in the UK. Then, Enrico Colantoni stops by. You know the talented actor from portraying Elliot DiMauro in the sitcom “Just Shoot Me!,” Keith Mars on the television series “Veronica Mars.” On the big screen he has appeared in the films “Galaxy Quest,” “A.I. Artificial Intelligence,” “Contagion,” and “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” Today we talk about his latest film, a comedy about four stoners, the self-proclaimed "Vandits", have a bright idea to knock over a senior citizens bingo hall on Christmas Eve. In this segment we talk about the unusual way he paid for theatre school in New York City and how the cast and crew of “Vandits” persevered after all their equipment was stolen the night before they were to start shooting. Finally, we'll meet Elegance Bratton, the film director who turned his story of being a young gay man, who found unexpected strength, camaraderie and support when he joined the Marines, after being rejected by his mother, into a critically acclaimed film called “The Inspection.” It is a classic against-all-odds story that paints a vivid picture of life inside the boot camp, the dehumanization, the violence, but also the brotherhood. The movie carefully builds the world of the boot camp, creating a palette of claustrophobia, brutality and tension that adds layers to the telling of his survival story.

Lisa and actress Anna Tierney go deep in this episode about her journey as an actor and her desire to lean in to all of the parts that make her who she is and break through the limitations both external and internal beliefs of "how" actors are supposed to present themselves:"The example in the industry, up until very recently was, you know, you want to look like this kind of homogenous of gravy of bland things, you know, or perfection or whatever that is. But I'm glad that's changing now, and I'm embracing all those rougher edges."Highlights include her affectionate recollection of her childhood  and the influence of her well known actor father Malcolm Tierney:"My dad was such a charming, funny, dedicated, personable man, you know, it was he was one of those people that it was just a dream to be around he could hold court in a room and, and you'd be kind of hanging off every word. "And her fear that she wouldn't be good enough to get into drama school:"I was applying for drama schools when I was at university, and so went straight to drama school. And it wasn't until I got there that I realized that that was where I was supposed to be. And I'd kind of I think been putting it off to an extent, was maybe a bit afraid of going to, to drama school, or would I be good enough to go there?"Anna's bio:Anna Tierney is a Drama Centre London graduate; her training was supported through many awards and the support of actors including Jeremy Irons, Ian McKellen, and Ian McShane. Upon graduation she landed a role in BBC's long running series Doctors, and performed (AT or WITH) The Globe, The National, The Royal Shakespeare Company.  In North America Anna performed at the Guthrie and Royal Alexandra Theatre with frequent collaborators Out of Joint Theatre in Our Country's Good.   Film and television credits include the animated series Summer Lane Drive, the feature PSYCHO GOREMAN that premiered at SXSW and the limited Channel 4 series Deceit where she met showrunner Emilia Di Girolamo.  Anna and Emilia reunited on the Amazon series Three Pines based on Louise Penny's Gamache series where Anna is a series regular.Born in Manchester, to Irish and Austrian ancestry, Anna speaks fluent German. This is the second part of my recent conversation with Irene Sankoff & David Hein -- the dynamic writing team and married couple that created the international smash hit musical Come From Away. Five productions of Come From Away have recently reopened around the world: Broadway, Toronto, London, Sydney and on tour across America. A new Dutch production has just opened, as well, and a live filmed version of the show is streaming on Apple TV+. On the previous episode Irene and David related how they got hooked on musicals, and how they went from their first show based on a true story -- My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding -- to deciding to create a musical based on the real life events that happened in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland in the days following 9/11. They also described what it was like to attend the 10th Anniversary of the events in Gander and then begin to transform the stories they heard there into a musical during an early workshop production at The Canadian Music Theatre Project at Sheridan College. We also explored the classic Broadway shows that influenced and inspired the writing of their book, music, and lyrics for Come From Away. If you missed part one you may want to go back and catch up on that episode before you listen to this one. Today we look at the extensive development process that CFA went through on its journey to Broadway - including a workshop in Seattle, a series of productions at the La Jolla Playhouse, The Seattle Rep, Ford's Theater in DC. and the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto, as well as a thrilling concert presentation in Gander where it all began.  Back in 2015, I served as the Executive Producer and Artistic Director of The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle and, as such, I had the great pleasure of co-producing that original Seattle workshop of Come From Away. This was the first time that the show's Tony award winning director Christopher Ashley and choreographer, Kelly Devine began to work on the show -- and it was great fun to recall that exciting experience with Irene and David. Come From Away is the fifth musical to originate in Canada and eventually open on Broadway.  The first was 1974's Rockabye Hamlet with book, music and lyrics by Cliff Jones. This rock musical adaptation of Shakespeare was originally titled Kronborg 1582 and was well received, first as a radio series on the CBC, and then at the Charlottetown Theatre Festival and on tour in Canada, before being retitled and opening on Broadway with Gower Champion as the director. It became a legendary flop and closed after 7 performances. Next, in 1980 came the intimate and engaging Billy Bishop Goes To War written by John McLachlan Gray the show featured one actor to playing18 different roles to tell the story of real life Canadian fighter pilot Billy Bishop during the first World War. This show nearly doubled the run of Rockabye Hamlet closing after 12 performances. However, over the next ten years Billy Bishop Goes To War received scores of productions at theaters all across North America.  The Story Of My Life, with music and lyrics by Neil Bartram and book by Brian Hill, opened on Broadway in 2009. Unfortunately, it had an even shorter run than either of the previous two Canadian shows. However, one year earlier, a group of Canadian writers finally scored a significant hit with The Drowsy Chaperone – book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert & Greg Morrison. This delightful show opened on Broadway in 2008, received Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Original Score, and ran for 674 performances.   There have been a few other Canadian writers that found success on Broadway – Galt McDermott being the most famous of them – but that was with shows that originated in the US.   Learn more about your ad choices. Actor, Jayne Eastwood joining the conversation on Cue To Cue Today!! What a blast I had with Jayne! She made me guffaw a few times during our conversation. Don’t be fooled! There are so many gems of wisdom hidden amongst the laughter and funny stories, Jayne has had a diversified career as an actor with much success and she is opening up about the ups and downs of it all and how she remains grounded through it all.   In this episode: How painting has served as another creative outlet and forces her to be present and in the moment What mantra she used to help her quit smoking after 50 years and the effect it has had on her vocal range How to accept rejection as a part of the game and why it is important to feel the feelings around being rejected. How “showing up” is the key to moving forward in your career as an artist. A little about Jayne: Jayne Eastwood, actor (born in Toronto). Jayne Eastwood was raised in Toronto, where she attended Northern Secondary School. It was in Toronto that she became a member of the cast of the musical Godspell, which played at the ROYAL ALEXANDRA THEATRE. The show ran from 1972-73 and Eastwood worked with cast members Martin SHORT, Andrea MARTIN, Gilda RADNER, and Eugene LEVY, and joined several of them in founding the Second City Theatre Troupe. Eastwood often appeared on Second City's creative offspring, SCTV, most memorably in the famous parody of GOIN' DOWN THE ROAD (her recurring line of dialogue is "I'm bummed out") with John CANDY and Joe FLAHERTY. Though Eastwood moves effortlessly from comedy to drama, comedy remains her magnetic north, drawing her to work with Women Fully Clothed, a group of performers nominated in 2005 for a CANADIAN COMEDY AWARD for best sketch troupe. From the early 1970s to the mid-1980s Eastwood appeared in stage productions of works by Michel TREMBLAY, Tom Stoppard, and Neil Simon, by such companies as Theatre in the Dell, Toronto Arts Productions, Centrestage Company, and Toronto Truck Theatre. She maintained a presence in both movies and television, working steadily in a variety of roles that began, in the 1980s, to include considerable voice work. One of her first television appearances was on the series That's Show Biz with Lorne MICHAELS and Hart and Earl Pomerantz, and she went on to become a regular on John Byner's show Bizarre from 1980 to 1985. In film, she played the president's wife in Al WAXMAN's sex comedy My Pleasure Is My Business (1975), appeared in the Robin SPRY film One Man (1977), had a small part in David CRONENBERG's Videodrome (1983) and did voice work for The Care Bears Movie (1985). She could be heard as the voice of Mrs Dingle and of Cookie and Joyce in the animated shows For Better or For Worse, and Bob and Margaret. In 1998 she won a GEMINI AWARD for best supporting actress in a drama for Dangerous Offender: the Marlene Moore Story. She played Aunt Agatha on the series Noddy and Friends, winning a 1999 Gemini Award for her work. Eastwood's film and TV appearances continued through the 1990s and into the new millennium, in works as varied as Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows (2001), Chicago (2002) and My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002). Eastwood has had parts in everything from stage productions of Marat/Sade to TV shows such as King of Kensington, Anne of Green Gables, and Riverdale, and in radio plays like CBC's Steve the Second. She is best known for her role as Betty, the pregnant wife abandoned by Joey in the canonical English-Canadian film Goin' down the Road (1970). Many viewers will recall her as the character Ronnie Sacks in the Canadian television series This Is Wonderland or as one of the regular characters in the partly improvised Train 48. She appears as Maxine Bingley in the series Billable Hours and plays a teacher in the movie Hairspray (2007), which was shot in Toronto. She has a recurring character part in the popular series Little Mosque n the Prarie, and reprised her Goin' down the Road role in the sequel, Down the Road Again (2011). In 2014 she was a guest star on Working the Engles alongside her old friend Andrea Martin.  She can be seen in the hit series Haven (2013-2014) as the recurring lead role of Gloria.  More recently Jayne worked with director Kenny ORTEGA on The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Orphan Black with Tatiana MASLANY. In 1999 Jayne Eastwood received the EARLE GREY AWARD for lifetime achievement and the recipient of the 2011 DAVE BROADFOOT AWARD at the CANADIAN COMEDY AWARDS. Eastwood is a talented and reliable actor who decided early on to remain in Toronto rather than leave for the limelight of the US. Her career is curiously and satisfyingly Canadian in that she has crafted a successful working life as an ensemble player in a variety of media while remaining in her own home town.
